SLANG:
Ma ha inyanim? = a basic greeting meaning
"what's up?" "how are ya?"
Sababa = all purpose slang for 1-fun! 2-fine with
me, okay, no problem.
Achla = (from Arabic) = great, awesome, good
job.
Chaval al ha zman = literally, "a waste of time",
but with the opposite meaning. Excellent in the
extreme. Be sure to slur the words together as if
they're one word.
Yalla (from arabic) = means "let's go,"
Yalla bye! = often used when ending a phone
conversation.

Transportation
BUSES:
General Info = *8787 Buses App - Moovit
Each bus company has its own hours of operation and
schedule. Most buses start running at 6AM with the last
bus leaving the station at around midnight. Buses DO NOT
operate on Shabbat. From about an hour before sundown
on Friday afternoon until sunset on Saturday night, the
only transportation options are taxis or monit sherut.
WHAT TO TAKE: (All directions are from 114 Allenby)
Central Bus Station = Take bus 10 north for 11 stops till you
reach the station
Jaffa = Take the 25 from station 25316 south for 6 stops,
then walk 6 minutes to the clock tower
Tel Aviv University = Take the 24 north from station27065
for 18 stops then walk 5 minutes to Tel Aviv University
The port =Take the 4, 104, or 204 for station 21491 for 14
stops
Arlozorov Train Station =Take the 18 from station 21491 for
10 stops
Azrieli Mall = Walk to station 22985 and take the 23 north
for 8 stops, then walk 4 minutes to the mall
Florentin = Take the 3, 72, or 172 south, from station 25420
for 3 stops
Dizengoff Center = Take the 72 or 172 north from station
25420 for 4 stops.

Transportation
TAXI:
Monit Sheroot= (lit. service taxi)
A 10 person van that travels along some of Tel-Aviv's
most popular routes for more or less the same price as a
bus ticket, 6.00 NIS each way, 7.00 NIS on Shabbat. You
can't miss them, as they are boxy, bright yellow vans
with "Taxi" written in big letters on the side. Hail a Monit
Sherut like you would a taxi. If there is space, the driver
will pull over to where you are on the road and swing
open the big door. If there is no seat in the van, the
driver will not stop. Lines of operation in center Tel-Aviv:
#4 and #5 They run all day, every day (including
Shabbat) until the wee hours of morning.
Taxis=
An average ride within the city center is about 25-30
shekels. A ride to the port or Jaffa may cost close to 35-
40 shekels. You should always ask the driver to put the
Moneh (meter) on, but he may ask you whether you want
to settle on a fare beforehand. Also, you do not have to
tip taxi drivers in Israel.

Transportation
BIKES:
Tel-O-Fun Bikes = With 2,000 bicycles, 200 stations and
130 Km of riding lanes, Tel-O-Fun green bikes have
become a natural transportation choice for locals and
tourists, and it's available 24/7.
Renting =
The service terminal at the rental station displays the
bikes available for renting there. Choose a bike number
on the terminal and locate it according to the docking
pole with the corresponding number, to which the bike
is locked, When the cable is released, pull it out and
leave it alongside the pole. You can now set off on your
bike.
Returning =
When you want to return a bike, ride up to any Tel-O-
Fun rental station, find an empty docking pole and place
the bike to the left of the pole. Take the locking cable
attached to the pole and thread it through the right side
of the lock device to the other side of the wheel. Press
the locking button until you hear a "click".
Important: pressing the locking button is the only way to
end the rental process. If necessary, you can obtain a
receipt for returning the bike. Please make sure you
have locked the bike properly and then proceed to the
service terminal.

Around Tel Aviv
PARKS:
Tel Aviv University’s Botanical Garden = Easily escape the
city and relax amongst approximately 3,800 plant species
from Israel and around the world. The Noah Nafulski
Garden extends to over half of TAU botanical garden and
boasts a plethora of plant species.
Tel Aviv Zoo = Ideal for those to visit who are curious about
the animal kingdom. It is located just adjacent to TAU
Botanical Garden close to the Tel Aviv University main
campus.
Park HaYarkon = The biggest and most visited park in Tel
Aviv, famous for its range of beautiful plants and flowers.
Though it is located just south of Tel Aviv University, the
Yarkon River runs directly through it.
Charles Clore Garden = The perfect spot to relax and
watch the sunset and to feel the cool refreshing breeze
from the sea. Charles Clore is a beautiful public park
alongside the Mediterranean Sea and is located along the
famous Herbert Samuel Street, just north of the old Jaffa
Port, with views to match. Park HaYarkon

Around Tel Aviv
BEACHES:
Dog Beach = Just north of Tel Aviv’s Hilton beach lies a
magical land where dogs can run free, and frolic in the
sand.
Gordon, Frishman and Bograshov Beaches = Tel Aviv’s
most popular beaches, with wide stretches of sand,
lifeguards, chairs… and lots of people!
Metzitzim Beach = ideal family beach: Shallow waters
and the constant presence of lifeguards will help ease
the minds of all the young parents out there. There is a
bar/ restaurant, showers, shaded areas… and for the
sporty, beach volleyball courts.
Geula Beach = Located on the end of Geula, this beach is
the number one hang-out for the local Israelis coming
fresh from Kerem Hetamenim and the Shuk. Bring a rug,
your matkot, a nargila and feel like a true Tel Avivi.
Gay Beach = Despite the fact that all sexes are permitted
on this beach, Tel Aviv’s gay community has made this a
real hotspot (pun intended). No matter what your sexual
preference, you are sure to enjoy this lively place. It’s
easy to find, just look out for the rainbow umbrellas!

MUSEUMS:
Tel Aviv Museum of Art = Almost undoubtedly one of the
greatest museums of Modern Art in the world. With a
massive newly opened wing, the museum has a great
collection of works by both Israeli and leading
international artists showcased in an incredible building.
Beit Hatfutsot is The Museum of the Jewish Peoplehood =
Fascinating museum located within the campus of the Tel
Aviv University in Ramat Aviv in north Tel Aviv. The
museum chronicles Jewish life across the diaspora over
thousands of years using interesting and creative
displays.
Eretz Israel Museum = The Museum of the Land of Israel.
This museum is predominantly an archaeology museum
with a number of pavilions set across a beautiful site set
above the center of the city of Tel Aviv, focusing on
different aspects of history.
Bauhaus Museum = Boutique gallery/museum on Bialik
Street, showcasing the history and development
of Bauhaus design in the heart of Tel Aviv’s UNESCO
recognised White City. It is only open two days a week:
Wednesday (11 am – 5 pm) and Friday (10 am – 2 pm)
Design Museum Holon = Housed in a work of art – a
masterpiece by leading Israeli architect Ron Arad which
is the focal point of Holon, a city just south of Tel Aviv.
Housing two or three rotating exhibitions relating to the
world of design, the Design Museum is not a huge
museum, but is something of a spectacle and somewhere
you should certainly consider visiting.

Outside Tel Aviv
JERUSALEM:
You'll never get tired of visiting beautiful Jerusalem.
Old City = (bus #1 from central bus station) which you
can visit the 4 quarters: Jewish, Muslim, Armenian, and
Christian
Yad Vashem = Holocaust Museum (bus #18 from central
bus station)
Ein Karem = Visit Russian churches, Yochanan Church,
Shuk - marketplace (any bus goes there)
Har Herzl = National cemetery of Israel where all the
great leaders and fallen soldiers are buried, as well as the
Herzl Museum
Israel Museum = Art, history, culture…the Israeli Met. Free
tours every day provided by Sandeman tours
Abu Gosh = Outside Jerusalem, has some of the best
Humus in Israel and there is a monastery
Outside Tel Aviv
Eilat = Scuba diving and snorkeling in the Red Sea
Dead Sea Area or Masada = Hike up or take the cable
cars to visit the historical Jewish site. Masada was the
last Jewish population in Israel before the Romans
conquered the area. It's great at sunrise if you can make
it then.
Ein Gedi Nature Reserve = Oasis in the Judean desert,
which you can see animals and swim in the springs.
Different levels of hiking – from easy to medium:
Haifa = Bahai Gardens
Rosh Pina = Lovely artists village
Zichron Yakov = Nice town to visit with shops and
restaurants and historical museums. Binyamina and
Tishbi wineries are there as well.
Akko = Take a boat ride or taste test everything in the
shuk
