CONSTITUTION DAY ASSEMBLY
Somerville school Greater Noida celebrated the 70th
Birth anniversary of the Indian Constitution on 26
November 2019 and paid a tribute to all the Nation
builders and framers of the
Indian Constitution. The senior students conducted
a special assembly to bring awareness about the
document and highlighted it’s significant features
and philosophy that have attributed to the success of
the Indian Constitution. A pledge to abide by the
Fundamental duties was administered by the School
principal Dr Mary Thomas during the school
assembly who reiterated the importance of the rights
and responsibilities of the Indian citizens.
The programme culminated with the National Principal, Dr Mary Thomas leads the
Anthem and the message to cherish and follow the students in a Pledge to uphold the
ideals of the Constitution of India. Constitution of India

Workshop on Attitude matters and the Art of Appreciation
A workshop was organised for the Pre-Primary and Primary teachers of Somerville School, Greater
rd
Noida on 3 December 2019. Ms. Meenal Sawhney , from Tranziam -Image Management and
Training Professional was the resource person for the session . The theme for the workshop was
‘Attitude Matters and the Art of Appreciation.’ The session dealt with nine simple steps for attitude
adjustment which can help an individual to create a learned predisposition to respond in a better way.
The workshop emphasized on starting each day with a positive thought, building self-esteem ,
accepting the reality, changing perspective and developing an attitude of gratitude. The resource
person also stressed on the art of appreciation which helps to build a strong team and in turn leads to
a progressive growth for all. It was an enriching experience for all the teachers where- in they learned
how to strengthen their attitude and appreciate the best in others.

CHAKRAVARTIN SAMRAT ASHOKA- ANNUAL PLAY
Somerville School, Greater Noida celebrated its Annual Day for the session 2019-20 at Nelson Memorial Auditorium,
Noida on 22 nd November 2019. Esteemed members of the management Mr. Thomas T. Roy Secretary/ Treasurer,
Superintendent of the Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India, Mrs. Mary George President of the Lott Carey Baptist
Mission in India, Mrs. D.A. Tressler Chairperson of the Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India ,Director Somerville
Schools, Mr. Abraham Mathew, Manager Somerville Schools, Heads of Sister schools and neighbouring schools,
presided over the occasion .Vice Principal Mrs. Monisha R. Claudius welcome the dignitaries, guests and parents. The
programme commenced with a hymn to usher in the divine for the success of the function.
On this occasion, mementoes were awarded to the members of the institution for their committed service of more than
30 years to the institution. Mr. Daniel Abraham, Senior Accountant Somerville School, Greater Noida was felicitated
with a memento, a shawl and a bouquet for his commitment to the mission by Mr. Thomas T. Roy Secretary/ Treasurer,
Superintendent of the Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India. Neelam ‘Didi’ who has been working with the institution
since 1998 by looking after the little ones of the primary wing was also showered with honours by Mrs. Mary George,
President of the Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India. Mr. Ram Sares, our bus driver who has been driving the students to
and fro with utmost care for almost 35 years was also felicitated by Mrs. D.A. Tressler ,Chairperson of the Lott Carey
Baptist Mission in India & Director ,Somerville Schools. We feel honoured to have such committed staff members in
our family.
Dr. Manju Sharma co-director and script writer of the play titled ‘Chakravartin Samrat Ashoka’ introduced the magnum
opus to the members of the Management and the audience.
Almost 400 students of classes V to VII participated in the play with utmost zeal with their theatrics and dance. The
story of King Ashoka played by Aditya Rohilla and ‘Samay’ played by Krishank Ghosh and Ayush Joshi of class VII
came alive with their performance. The highlight of the play was the Battle of Kalinga which transformed the Mighty
Monarch Ashoka to the messenger of peace who not only spread peace and solidarity but on having accepted Buddhism
followed a life of sacrifice and peace. The live chants of ‘Buddham Sharnam Gachami’ by the Indian Music Choir
stirred the souls of all present. The guests were mesmerized by epic performances of each student and congratulated the
teachers for inculcating the values of peace and solidarity among today’s generation. Principal Dr. Mary Thomas
applauded the students efforts and said that it is the effort put into playing even small roles that matters the most.
