made me all the more determined to prove him wrong.
He seemed to thrive on developing hatred towards himself
among the troops.
The feelings of hatred towards Sergeant Pinerro grew so
strong that after a few weeks some of the men in our platoon
pulled a really mean trick on him. We were quartered
in a two level barracks with all of the recruits in bunks in
the large, central, open space. Sgt. Pinerro, as well as the
other platoon leaders, had private rooms at one end of the
building and there were showers, etc. at the other end with
all the recruits in between. A set of stairs ascended between
the open area and the private rooms. Sgt. Pinerro’s room
was at the top of the stairs. Unlike the recruits, the platoon
leaders had no restrictions on their evening hours and it
