fh
fh
The Merciful and Loving Allah has sent many T P fh
fh
Prophets at different times in mankind’s long fh
and arduous history. Every known nation has had one fh
Prophet or more. All the Prophets of Allah were men of
good character and high honour. They were prepared
and chosen by Allah to deliver His Message to
mankind. Their honesty and truthfulness, their intelli-
gence and integrity are beyond doubt. They were infal-
lible in that they did not commit sins or violate the Law
of Allah. But as mortals, they might have made some
unintentional, well-intended errors of judgement.

The deputing of these Prophets from Allah is a clear fh
manifestation of a strong link between Heaven and fh
Earth, between Allah and man. It means that man is fh
reformable and in him there is much good. The purpose fh
of Prophethood is to confirm what man already knows
or can know, and to teach him what he does not or can-
not know by his own means. It is also to help man to
find the Straight Path of Allah, to do the right and
abstain from the wrong.

Prophethood is an eloquent expression of Allah’s love fh
for humanity and His will to guide them to the right way fh
of belief and behavior. It is an emphasis of His justice fh
to man, because He shows him true guidance first, and fh
then holds him responsible for his deeds. He gives
warnings through His prophets, and if man fails to see
the dangers of his wrong deeds, his behavior becomes
punishable. This is in complete accord with Allah’s love
and justice, and the worth and capability of man of
being responsible to his Lord.

The Source of Prophethood and the Sponsor of all the fh
Prophets are One and the Same, namely Allah, Lord

and Creator of all. Their aim is to serve Allah, to

fh acquaint man with Allah and His Divine teachings, to

and accept their teachings as consistent and comple-

fh said, “Why should I bow down to

fh this reason he could not appreciate
fh the wonderful qualities Allah had
fh given Adam [a]. He looked at the

body and not what was within, he

fh became the fool because of this sin.
fh This haughtiness and disobedience
fh angered Allah. “Leave from here

immediately! You are cursed until

fh the Day of Judgement!”
fh Ever since, Iblis came to be called

shaytan, the one cast away, the

fh enemy of Man.
fh Feeling angry and revengeful, shay-

CHAPTER 2

fhAnd so Adam [a] lived in the Garden
fhof Paradise in peace and happi-
ness. For a long time Adam lived

fhalone in the beautiful Garden enjoy-
ing all the good things that were

fhthere. But then, Adam [a] began to
fhfeel lonely. He had everything in

Jannah, but no friend. There was no

fh
fh So, one day, Adam [a] prayed , ask-

ing Allah to give him a companion.

fh Allah answered Adam’s [a] prayer
and so Hawwa [a], the first woman,
was created. Adam [a] was over-

fh joyed. Now he could share all the
fh pleasures of Jannah with a friend
fh and companion. She was beautiful

fh wicked, someone very jealous. It
was shaytan. When he heard what

fh Allah had said his evil mind made
vn an evil plan. What was the plan?

my faith ...ISLAM 193

Umm! I wonder? ry
fh

Adam [a] and Hawwa [a] lived very

fhhappily in the beautiful Garden of
Jannah. Jannah was much more

fhbeautiful than our earth, very much
more. There were flowers more

fhbeautiful than you can imagine,
fhhaving the sweetest of scents and
colours prettier still. There were sil-

fhver trees as huge as mountains,
with golden leaves and fruits of a

fhthousand flavours. There were
fhbirds with feathers so lovely, a hun-

dred rich colours all in one. And

fhthey sang the sweetest, most melo-

dious songs all day long. There

fhwere creatures as only Allah knows,

beside heavenly streams with

fhponds as vast as the skies and the
fhearth. And waters sweeter than

honey, whiter than milk, with peb-

fhbles of rubies and emeralds twin-
kling beneath. fh

fhFor Adam [a] and Hawwa [a] the

days in this beautiful Garden were

vn194 my faith ...ISLAM

ry like one very long and comfortable
fh holiday, without any care or worry at
fh all. Ahh! How superb indeed.
fh They went wherever they wished

and ate whatever they chose. They
drank the sweet, honey waters and

fh swam in the deep, jewelled ponds.
fh But they never dared go near the
fh tree, the tree forbidden by Allah, the

One. This because they loved Allah,
fh even more than Jannah itself, more
than the very lives they were given.

fh Adam [a] was indeed better than
fh the angels, because he was the first

creature ever, to truly love Allah, the

fh Creator of all.
fh
fh
CHAPTER 3

fh Now, iblees, the shaytan, was very
fh jealous indeed, more than ever
before. Ooh! How he hated what he

fh saw.
vn my faith ...ISLAM 195

ryAllah had blessed Adam [a] and
fhHawwa [a], He had made them the

best of His creation. shaytan, how-

fhever had a plot, a plot so wicked

fhfrom his high position.
fhshaytan knew that Allah had
fhordered Adam [a] and Hawwa [a]

not to approach the tree in the mid-

fhdle of the Garden, nor taste its fruit.
This was to be the way by which to

fhdestroy Adam [a].
fh

So shaytan disguised himself as a

fhfriendly, slithery snake. He was able
to do this because Allah had grant-

fhed him great power, even the power
fh
to change his shape.

fhAs a snake, shaytan entered

Jannah, the Garden, and because

fhhe knew that man was honest and
soft hearted, he tried to tempt Adam

fh

In a friendly voice he said, “I have
