ST JOHN BAPTIST DE
LA SALLE

St. La Salle was born on April 30, 1651 to Nicole Moet and Louise de
la Salle, a city magistrate. He was the eldest child of 5 brothers and 2
sisters. His grandmother influenced him greatly (read him the lives of
the Saints). He started his seminary years in 1670. As a seminarian he
taught catechism and became deeply concerned about the situation
of most families that could not afford to spend for their children's
education (secular or religious). In 1672, the parents of De La Salle
died, so he returned to Rheims from Paris to take care of his brothers
and sisters. After much reflection and spiritual direction, he pursued
his desire to be a priest; he was ordained on April 9, 1678.

De La Salle continued to be concerned about the lack of schools
especially Christian -oriented schools, for the working class and the
poor. A very close friend of his, Fr. Roland, was begging a
congregation of Sisters to teach girls of the working class. He asked
De La Salle to help him. Gradually, De La Salle was involved in helping
Father Roland found the Sisters of the Child Jesus. Together with
Adrien Nyel, they began to train a few men who could help begin free
schools for boys. Although he was from a wealthy and Aristocratic
family, De La Salle chose to live with his school masters. Their zeal
and perseverance to render their noble apostolic work led to the
founding of the Brothers of Christian Schools (Fratres Scholarum
Christianarum) - June 24, 1680.

Salam Sejahtera dan Salam Lasallian,

Bersyukur kepada Tuhan dengan izinnya dapat saya berikan sepatah dua kata di
ruangan ini.Pertama-tamanya saya ingin merakamkan ucapan terima kasih kepada sidang redaksi
majalah sekolah atas usaha bersungguh-sungguh dalam merealisasikan penerbitan majalah digital
sekolah buat julung kali.

Keadaan dunia yang serba berubah akibat Covid-19 tidak sama sekali melunturkan
semangat juang yang tinggi dalam kalangan warga La Salle dalam penyediaan majalah digital ini
yang menjadi media rakaman segala aktiviti sekolah sepanjang tahun akademik 2020/2021.

Majalah digital ini sudah pasti akan menjadi tatapan warga La Salle sebagi satu media
yang memuatkan nostalgia sama ada perkara-perkara formal serta tidak formal.Rekod formal yang
dimaksudkan ialah rakaman pencapaian sekolah dalam bidang kurikulum,kokurikulum serta sahsiah
.Kejayaan murid-murid dalam tiga bidang ini yang menjadi indikator kemenjadian murid.Diharapkan
dokumentasi ini menjadi satu rujukan kepada murid-murid lain untuk terus mengangkat dan
mendokong harapan agar SMK LA SALLE terus cemerlang pada masa akan datang.

Segala rakaman peristiwa yang tidak formal pula akan sentiasa mengingatkan bahawa
kita ialah LASALLIAN yang berpegang kepada tiga nilai tunjang iaitu ,”Faith, Service and
Community.”Di samping itu, moto sekolah iaitu, “LUX LUCEAT VOBIS” pula membawa pengertian
yang sangat mendalam kepada setiap warga LASALLE yakni mengingatkan kita bahawa Lasallian
mempunyai tugas menyinarkan cahaya.Maksud yang tersirat ini harus dihayati agar setiap
pengalaman bermakna yang diperolehi di SMK La Salle ini terus dikongsi demi kesejahteraan
manusia.

Tema majalah digital pada kali ini ialah “Resilient” yang membawa maksud “Berdaya
Tahan.”Harapan agar segala warga Lasalle akan kental menghadapi cabaran pada masa kini serta
yang akan datang .Buktikan kita sentiasa sehati sejiwa dalam memastikan kecemerlangan sekolah
yang tercinta ini.Tambahan pula, dengan komitmen padu daripada Lembaga Pengelola
Sekolah,Persatuan Ibu Bapa dan Guru(PIBG) serta “Malaysian Federation of Old La Sallian
Associations” (OLAK) saya pasti SMK La Salle akan terus mengorah langkah untuk menjadi sebuah
sekolah yang cemerlang di daerah Klang.Majalah digital ini pula akan terus menjadi media perakam
kecemerlangan tersebut.

Salam Sejahtera ,

Tahniah dan syabas sekali lagi diucapkan kepada LA SALLIAN , Edisi ke- 68 kerana
berjaya meneruskan legasi penerbitan majalah ini. Selaku wakil ibu bapa dan penjaga sekolah ini
saya berasa bangga dengan hasil kerja AJK sidang redaksi yang telah menerbitkan majalah yang
begitu bermakna pada tahun lepas dan seterusnya tahun ini .

Edisi tahun ini agak berbeza sedikit kerana ianya menjadi terbitan digital yang pertama
bagi sekolah kami . Keputusan ini diambil atas beberapa sebab yang tidak dapat dielakkan oleh
kerana penularan wabak Covid -19 .

Seperti sedia maklum PIBG sekolah kami dengan kerjasama pelbagai pihak sentiasa
menggalakkan segala aktiviti positif daripada pihak sekolah bagi kebaikkan setiap pelajar .
Berbanding tahun - tahun yang lepas kami dapat merasakan rintangan yang dihadapi oleh setiap
individu yang terlibat dalam usaha menghasilkan seorang pelajar khasnya pada tahun ini . Oleh
yang demikian saya memohon kerjasama yang lebih dinamik dan serius daripada setiap ibu bapa
yang terlibat untuk membantu pihak sekolah memastikan yang anak – anak kami berjaya dan
bersedia menghadapi hidup didunia luar yang penuh dengan pelbagai cabaran yang mesti
dihadapi dengan penuh keyakinan pada diri sendiri . Dengan adanya kerjasama yang erat ini,
segala masalah dan konflik akan dapat kami selesaikan secara bermusyawarah.

Majalah ini bukan hanya menjadi wadah penghubung yang erat antara pihak sekolah
dengan para ibu bapa malah menjadi pembuka jalan yang penuh dengan peluang berfaedah demi
kejayaan setiap individu terlibat . Para pelajar juga digalakkan agar berusaha bersungguh-
sungguh justeru menempa pelbagai kejayaan dalam bidang kurikulum dan kokurikulum agar dapat
diabadikan dalam edisi kenangan ini. Kejayaan yang dicapai oleh warga SMK LA SALLE ,
KLANG sama ada dari segi akademik mahupun kokurikulum menunjukkan bahawa jika ada
kesungguhan dan iltizam segalanya mampu ditempuhi.

Akhir kata, marilah kita bekerjasama merealisasikan impian negara untuk menjadikan
generasi muda hari ini sebagai modal insan Negara yang cemerlang dalam bidang ilmu serta
mempunyai sahsiah yang terpuji. Dengan harapan dan doa semoga tahun 2021 akan menjadi
sebuah tahun yang lebih sejahtera dan bahagia kepada semua .

It gives me great pleasure to write a short message in this e-magazine of SMK La Salle
Klang for the year 2020. I congratulate the Editorial Board on its untiring efforts in bringing out this e-
digital magazine and not forgetting the persons who have contributed to this issue and enhanced its
perfection through their articles, short stories, poems, etc..

This e-magazine serves not only as a medium of showcasing La Salle’s accomplishments
and successes but also imprinting the memories that shaped 2020 into a meaningful period for all La
Sallians.

My dear La Sallians, Year 2020 has brought about unseen challenges that makes staying at
home, wearing a mask, washing our hands and maintaining social distancing a part of life. These are
measures adopted to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and maintain normalcy whenever possible.
Teachers and schools need to continue their work from home too. Teachers are facing a daunting
task of preparing presentation templates, printables or infographics to make lessons more fun during
these difficult times. I wish to appreciate these painstaking efforts of the teachers and school
administrators, to make teaching and learning effective and enriching.

The 2019 PT3 and SPM results showed a marked improvement and I congratulate you on
your performance. Continue doing your best and grow as world class citizens; to be a generation of
wise planners and thinkers contributing to a better world. At the same time, let us ponder awhile to
consider how the school can and should contribute towards nation building. Let us strive towards the
creation of a united Malaysian nation of citizens caring for one and another, upholding goodwill,
harmony and respect for all, despite our differences.

On behalf of the Board, I wish to welcome Mr. Manokaran Ponniah, the Principal and
congratulate him on his appointment. He has been working sincerely with the co-operation of all
concerned, towards making the school a responsible, disciplined and caring community. Thank you,
Mr. Mano. I also wish to express the Board’s appreciation to Mr. K. Jayandera, the Chairman, and
members of the PIBG; and the old boys under the leadership of OLAK for their continuous effort and
contributions to provide the best for the students and the school. Our shared vision for the betterment
of the school has always been the greatest priority and will continue to be so.

At this juncture, the Board wishes to express our gratitude and appreciation to Puan Nizam
Beevi, a senior member of the staff who left the school on promotion to Kota Kemuning, after having
served the school and the Board with loyalty and dedication for 20 years. We wish her well.

My Fellow Lasallians,

In these most extraordinary of times we are faced with the opportunity to assess the role of
schooling in our lives. For most, if not all of you who have been affected by the disruption to normal
schooling caused by Covid19 and the resulting restrictions of the MCO, it is a time for you to remind
yourselves of schooling as your introduction to the real world – a time and a place for learning,
healthy competition, excellence, friendship and respect for one another. Essentially, an opportunity
for you to prepare yourselves to face the world.

The fact that you have not been able to physically go to school should not in any way
change the role that schooling plays in your lives. On the contrary, you are given an amazing
opportunity to reflect on the situation that you find yourselves in. Schooling goes beyond turning up
in your classrooms, more than the open spaces of the school Padang where you play and compete
with your mates in sporting competition, more than being at the library, or the science lab. The
academic institution resides in your hearts and minds. It is what is within you that matters most.

If you are willing to learn from the lessons that this Great Disruption offers us, you will one
day look back and realise that you are among the privileged to have had the opportunity to
experience this momentous event. Learning is something that can be achieved even if the physical
conditions make it difficult. Friendships and connections with your classmates can continue and
perhaps even be strengthened. Technology and the various online tools make it all possible, but
only if you truly internalise the value of schooling within yourselves. Educating yourself is something
which you must yearn for within your hearts. And if you have that desire, and turn it into inspired
action, you would have achieved what is the one true goal of schooling – your formation into a man
of character. And because of the unique opportunities of these extraordinary times, you would also
have learnt the power of adaptability, the ability to find solutions in a changing and uncertain world.
It would be a gift that you will cherish for the rest of your lives!

So, dear students, my message to you is to develop within your hearts and minds the
burning desire for learning, in every sense of the word – academically and in terms of good values.
The Lasallian character of educational and spiritual formation exemplified by our school motto is a
good place to start. Understand what it truly means for you to let your light shine. Each one of you
has the potential to be a beacon of light and hope. Even in the darkest of times.

LOHITT S PARAMISVARAN

Hello everybody. I’m Lohitt S Paramisvaran, your friendly head boy. It’s a pleasure for me to
publish my speech for this year’s digital magazine, “Resilience”. Congratulations to the Editorial
Board in making this year’s magazine a success despite all the issues we faced during this
pandemic.

SMK La Salle is the school which I completely have no regrets enrolling 5 years ago. This
school has been a whole new experience for me with its rich culture and history. I really cannot
imagine gaining all these experience from some other schools. This is a place where all races unite
and have created a family of our own, calling the “La Sallians”.

If 300 years ago St. John Baptist De La Salle did not help all those poor and left out children
who couldn’t afford education, there would not be a SMK La Salle in the first place today. Despite all
the problems he faced to form these schools, he did not give up. Instead he managed to overcome
everything and step by step he brought up these schools to provide education for the needy.

This brings me to my topic about not giving up. 2020 hasn’t been a great year for all of us.
We have been or even going through something called the “Movement Controlled Order” or better
known to us as MCO. As a student, I understand that there are many distractions and challenges
faced during this time as we tend to relax more and neglect our studies. We shouldn’t lose hope and
give up on it. Our future depends on it. So as “La Sallians”, let’s prove that nothing could deter us
from achieving our goals.

Next, on behalf of all our students, or who like to be known as the La Sallian brothers, I
would like to thank every teacher in our La Salle family for your dedication and hard work in teaching,
guiding and building character day by day. Despite this year being not what we expected, teachers
did not give up on us and are willing to spend their time for conducting online classes. They have
always put students as their priority and ready to support and guide us anytime.

I would also like to personally thank Puan Rafeah, Puan. Zurina and Puan Neela, three very
dedicated teachers in shaping our Prefects. Although Puan Neela and Puan Zurina are no longer in
charge of Prefectorial Board, yet they still support and guide Puan. Rafeah in taking over their
responsibilities. Puan. Rafeah has also dedicated her precious time to learn up and succeeded
Puan. Neela effortlessly. Many people are not aware of their hard work and effort that they put on
shaping us Prefects. As the Head Prefect of SMK La Salle, I am very thankful to have such great and
supportive teachers.

Lastly, to my future Prefectorial Board, remember to serve with dedication and commitment
to your work and the school. Being a prefect is not easy as you have many challenges to face during
your service as a prefect, but it’ll be a great experience for you to survive in the outside world. All the
best guys!

That is all from me for now. To all the students, be proud to be a La Sallian and never forget
it. Thank you and Hail Alma Mater!

Greetings to all!!!
Year 2020 has been an unforgettable year for many. As the clock struck 12 to mark

the start of a new year and a new decade, everyone in the world cheered and celebrated.
Life was full of hopes and dreams. Being new in the editorial board, all of us were full of
enthusiasm and ideas. We were so eager to get things moving. Then Covid 19 strikes our
shore.

Suddenly we were all put in MCO, CMCO, EMCO,TEMCO and not forgetting always follow
SOP. We were all in despair. But all is not lost. We follow the new normal. Armed with the
La Sallian spirit and lots of support and encouragement from the BOG, OLAK, PTA, school
administrators, teachers and fellow students, we now proudly present to you the 68th edition
of our school magazine, LA SALLIAN 2020 with the theme RESILIENCE.

I do not want to elaborate on the obstacles and constraints we faced. Suffice to say,
we all worked against all odds and we did it! Thank you everyone, the BOG, OLAK, PTA,
school administrators, teachers and fellow students. Special thanks go to all the members in
the editorial board for their hard work and perseverance in making this maiden digital
magazine a success.
