Evaluation of Anti-Diabetic and Anti-Depressive Effect of Morin Hydrate in STZ Induced Diabetic Rats
Description: Diabetes Mellitus is a syndrome characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and relative insulin
deficiency, resistance or both. It leads to the disturbances in carbohydrate, fat and lipid metabolism
Sailakshmi Sri Lekha Chitturi Page 2
resulting in pathological changes. Depression is defined as disorders of mood rather than disturbances of
thought or cognition. It may range from mild condition, bordering on normality to severe (psychotic)
depression accompanied by hallucinations and delusions. From many studies, it is clear that there are
interaction between stress and behavior that affects metabolic stability in the diabetic patients. Thus,
stress may have greater impact on diabetes than on other individuals leading to mental depression. Morin
(2',3,4',5,7-pentahydroxyflavone), is a member of flavanoid family. Weekly body weight changes, weekly
changes in plasma blood glucose, serum triglycerides, serum cholesterol, oxidative stress parameters
(MDA, SOD, Catalase, GSH) , and histopathology of liver tissue were evaluated in STZ induced diabetic
wistar rats. The results suggest that the morin hydrate, a flavanoid may be of significant therapeutic use
against diabetes and diabetes associated depression and the effect is mainly attributed to its direct strong
antioxidant properties.
Evaluation of Anxiolytic effect of Myostaal forte, a Polyherbal formulation on mice.
Description: Anxiety is a state of excessive fear characterized by motor tension, apprehension,
sympathetic hyperactivity and vigilance syndromes, leading to impairment of memory, intelligence and
psychological function. Myoostaal forte is a polyherbal formulation containing Boswellia serrata,
Commiphora wightii, Withania somnifera, Curcuma longa, Tinospora cordifolia, and Zingiber officinale as
major ingredients. Elevated plus maze, Open field, Light-dark exploration test and Hole board test were
used to evaluate anti-anxiety effect.
Effect of Myostaal forte, a Polyherbal formulation in inflammatory bowel disease on rats.
Description: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) involves chronic inflammation of all or part of digestive
tract. IBD primarily includes ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Both usually involve severe diarrhea,
pain, fatigue and weight loss. IBD can be debilitating and sometimes leads to life-threatening
complications. Myoostaal forte is a polyherbal formulation containing Boswellia serrata, Commiphora
wightii, Withania somnifera, Curcuma longa, Tinospora cordifolia, and Zingiber officinale as major
ingredients. Disease activity index, macroscopic score, microscopic score, biochemical estimations
(MDA and SOD) and percent of mesentric mast cell protection were evaluated.
