A Pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life. It is the
tear that results from the injury of the oyster. Likewise, the treasure of our
being in this world is also produced by an injured life. If we had not been
injured through life experiences, then we would not produced the Pearl. -

THE PRESIDENT'S "PEARLS OF WISDOM"
My dearest fellow Pearls in service,
I welcome you to our 4th and final issue of Club quarterly bulletin

beautifully curated by my Bulletin Editor Norma Apines.
It is finally the closing chapter of RY2021/22, and of my Club Presidency.
As I'm penning down this message, I am overwhelmed by a sense of
gratitude for my Board of RY2021/22, their Committee deputies &
members, and all of you my dearest Pearls, who have done so much to
assist me during the past 12 months in leading the Club, to Serve Above
Self.
I thank my hardworking Board of RY2021/22, whose valuable assistance I
couldn't have done without:-
01) Vice President Rosie Chong
02) President Elect Datuk Hjh Aminah Ambrose
03) Immediate Past President Eliza Goh
04) Secretary Hanna Ghani-Loh
05) Treasurer Datin Phyllis Lo

My motto for this closing term was to GROW AND GLOW - and all of you have really
proven to me as well as to the District, how much the Club has grown and glowed
throughout this term. - we have six (6) Pearls who have been appointed to District Level
Responsibilities; the Club achieved 100% in our citation goals; we also received merit
awards and certificate of recognition from the District. Bravo Pearls!

My very special thanks to my Vice President Rosie Chong who pulled off
successfully the enormous task of organising the 31st Pan Borneo Inter-
Clubs Meet at Le Meridien Hotel in May 2022, as well as organising the first
ever virtual installation for our Club at the beginning of this term. You and
your dedicated organising committee members have made our Club glow
proudly. WELL DONE!
I am also proud that during my term, our Club managed to get a brother Club
in Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur Diraja (RCKLDR), and for this I am especially
thankful to my very efficient International Service Director Nicole Lee. Great
job Nicole in getting RCKLDR to sign up as our brother Club!
Special thanks too for our dear Datin Rocy Chong, the Club's Deputy Community
Service Chair, who worked hard with my Public Image Chair Celestina Chin to make our
booth shine at the Rotary showcase event in Suria Mall Kota Kinabalu. Our booth
showcased posters that were well arranged as well as eye-catching, for which our
Outgoing DG Dolly Yeap was very appreciative. Thank you too my Community Service
Director Tulip Noorazyze for accompanying DG Dolly during the event, to explain our
booth showcase and all our Club's service projects, and also for all that you've done for
the Club. You are a valuable member of my Board, and indeed, of the Club.
To my very efficient The Rotary Foundation Chair (TRF) Nar Chin Keow, thank you very
much for going above and beyond to aggressively organise END POLIO NOW (EPN)
fund raising activities, including an EPN march for our Club at Taman Rimba, Jalan
Hospital Queen Elizabeth 1, for which our Club got first runner up placement for EPN
group photo contest, as well as first runner up in the EPN Buddy photo contest, in the
District level EPN activities' competition. TRF Chair Nar Chin Keow's efforts were all in
tandem with Outgoing DG Dolly Yeap's aggressive approach to raise funds for END
POLIO NOW Rotary movement. Furthermore, out of all this great EPN fund raising
efforts, a new theme song simply entitled "END POLIO NOW" was created by Rotarian
Cheong Kok Ann (RCKK), of which our Club, namely myself and Club Bulletin Editor
Norma Apines, were made part of the group of Rotarians who recorded the song at Mr
Roger Wang's studio.

To my Membership Chair Catherine Liew whose tireless efforts to bring
Pearls together in sisterhood have resulted in an additional three (3) new
members - thank you so much and well done! I could go on and on writing
about the merits of each and every one of you my dear Board and all you
wonderful Pearls. However, just know that all your contributions are not
lost on me or the Club - and will always be carried in my heart. This term
has truly been a pleasure, and also a learning experience for me as well,
being at the helm of such an amazing group of women.
Before I end my message, I would like to specially acknowledge our
wonderful Outgoing DG Dolly Yeap who has been a fortress of inspiration in
leadership. She is the first woman ever to become District 3310's Governor
- and she is the first ever woman District leader to have led the District for
an END POLIO NOW historical climb up the highest peak in South East Asia, Mount
Kinabalu in April 2022. NOT an easy feat for anyone, even for young climbers, and
certainly not an easy feat for someone at 66 years of age! But our Outgoing DG Dolly
Yeap showed us all that , where there is a will, success follows. Bravo DG Dolly Yeap! I
am honoured to have served my Presidency during your District governorship. All the
best in your future endeavours.
Welcome and congratulations to our next woman District 3310 Governor Joanne Kam
as she ushers in the new term RY2022/23. I'm sure you will lead the District to new
heights of Rotary success, and we look forward to your leadership.
Welcome and congratulations to our Club's incoming President Datuk Hjh Aminah
Ambrose and her Board of RY2022/23. We are all excited for your term to direct the
Club to new possibilities in all things Rotary, as we embark on the new R.I. Presidential
theme to IMAGINE ROTARY. Good luck and all the best!
Once again, thank you very much dearest Pearls for your moral and generous support,
as well as all the beautiful memories and lessons learned which I will always cherish.
Rest assured we shall still be working together to #ImagineRotary for a better world.

Most activities and efforts were concentrated
around the 31st Pan Borneo event that our Club is
privileged to organise, and the event was a
resounding success.
Representatives of the participating Pan Borneo

who worked with our Club to collaborate with the
Marine Ecology Research Centre (MERC) of Kota

Malohom Bay Pulau Gaya, were able to visit the site
and even enjoyed "planting" their adoptive baby
corals in cement-based mini pots.
Our brother Club Kuala Lumpur DiRaja (RCKLDR)
D3300, as well as our sister Club Taichung Huimin
Taiwan D3460 donated RM7857 and RM3,300

COMMUNITY SERVICE - LAUNCHING OF PPV CHILDREN'S CORNER
On 9th April 2022, the Club officially launched the
"Children's Corner" for the children's vaccination
centre (PPV) at Dewan Serbaguna Luyang Kota
Kinabalu. The "Children's Corner" is a donation to
KKM from the Club, and is meant to help comfort the
children after their ordeal with the needle, as well as
to ease the minds of the parents. It is hoped that
with their good experience at the "Children's Corner"
after the jab, both children and parents can help
spread the word to encourage other parents to
bring their children for vaccination. A TV set that
comes together with all the various items donated
by the Club for the Corner, provided entertaining
knowledge about covid-19 vaccination through the
cartoon show "UPIN & IPIN". There are even two fun
mascots, cartoon characters WINNIE THE POOH
AND TIGGER. The Corner is portable and can easily
be packed up and moved for use in Outreach
vaccination programmes in rural areas. Funding for
materials came from District 3310 Covid-19
Response Grant of RM5,000, and a further RM1,000
contribution from Club members.
The "Children's Corner" consists of the following....
1) Mascot costumes 2 sets
2) A unit of Sharp Android 42" TV
3) A foldable table
4) 20 units of children's chairs
5) 2 rolls of colourful children's floormat
6) 2 separate designs of photobooth and stand (for
parents and children to take fun pictures)
7) 80 rolls of fun stickers (500 stickers/roll)
8) Packs of children's face masks
9) Mini bottles of hand sanitisers
10) Boxes of Apollo biscuit wafers

CLUB PARTICIPATION IN DISTRICT LEVEL ACTIVITIES - PRIDE OF
WORKSMANSHIP PROJECT (VOCATIONAL SERVICE)
PRIDE OF WORKMANSHIP PROJECT is a
collaboration between Districts 3310 and
3300. The project's objective is to inspire
individuals to feel pride and love for his/her
profession in their workplace, and also to
allow Rotary Clubs to work alongside
organisations, corporations and business
owners to create employee satisfaction in
their workplace, thus enhancing productivity.
In line with this objective, and in conjunction
with Rotary Month of Vocational Service which
is February each year, Districts 3310 and
3300 decided to recognize the hard work and
dedication of Police Diraja Malaysia (PDRM),
who went above and beyond in their service
to the country, especially during the height of
Covid-19 pandemic, supporting the country's
efforts to contain the disease and ensuring
the public's safety. District 3300 went ahead
with their launch of the project at Bukit Aman
Police Head Quarters in February 2022. For
Sabah however, due to rising cases of Covid-
19 infections, the launching of the project was
only carried out on 3rd June 2022, at Ibu
Pejabat Balai Polis Kontinjen Sabah (Kepayan).
District 3310 Regional Vocational Chair for
Sabah, our Club's very own President Elect
Datuk Hjh Aminah Ambrose, chaired the
project for Sabah Rotary Clubs, with Past
District Governor Datuk Hj Zainie Aucasa of
RCKK as Advisor. A mock cheque for
RM20,000 from District 3310 was handed
over to PDRM by PE Datuk Hjh Aminah during
the launch. The funds will go out to various
police stations throughout Sabah to help
members of the police force whose families
were severely affected by the economic
downturn caused by the pandemic.
In addition to the cash contributions, an
appreciation plaque from the sponsoring
Rotary Clubs will be put up at the balai polis of
each participating Club's choice. Breakdown
of sponsors in the following page.

SERVICE COMMITTEE PANEL DISCUSSION
The District Vocational Service Committee held a
virtual panel discussion on the subject of
"BEHAVIOURS OF EXEMPLARY ROTARIANS" on 18th May 2022. The discussion was hosted by
Rotarian Anil Changaroth, and moderated by Charter President Tengku Indra from Club of
Kampong Gelam Singapore.
Six panel Speakers were invited for the discussion:-
1) President Halim Egoh of RC Luyang, Kota Kinabalu
2) Past President Nidhi Swarup of RC Raffles City, Singapore
3) President Elect Faridah Jamal of RC Kampong Gelam, Singapore
4) President Andrea Chan of RC Kuching Central
5) Rotarian Rohayu Permatasari of RC Kampong Baru Center from District3300
6) Immediate Past President Andy Lim of RC Tanjung Bunga, Penang from District3300
What are among the attributes of a typical exemplary Rotarian? Mindset of a leader that sets
example for members to follow and does things without expecting anything in return. Upbuilds
self esteem of members and is always encouraging, never tearing them down with harsh
criticism. Despite obstacles, always has an attitude of gratitude and compassion. Owns up to any
mistakes committed. Resolves conflicts in a polite and courteous way, and never sweeping any
issues under the rug. Above all, must listen with empathy towards members without being
judgemental.
From our Club, the participants were PE Datuk Hjh Aminah Ambrose who's also D3310 Regional
Vocational Chair for Sabah, Community Service Director Tulip, Vocational Service Director
Adelina Adna, and Bulletin Editor Norma Apines.

UNIQUE VOCATIONS IN ROTARY
Flashback to a District-level discussion on un
ique
vocations in Rotary that was organised by Club of
Kuching, Sarawak. Purpose of the discussion was to
highlight Rotarians whose vocations were unusual and
not your everyday-kind-of careers. President Mona
Manap from Club of Kuching moderated the session.
This Zoom event won a District 3310 Merit award.
The session Speakers invited to share about their
unique vocations on 19th January 2022 (excuse the
year 2021 shown in poster by mistake) were our very
own President Majella with her vocation as an Archivist,
Past President Dr Ashley Soosay from Club of Kuching
as a Medical Genetist, and Past President Violet Lim
with her vocation in Matchmaking Service. We seldom
hear any of this vocations on a daily basis and the
session truly was an eye-opener for those who
attended the Zoom event. Certainly when it came to PP
Violet's vocation in Matchmaking Services, there was a
lot of laughter and fun questions posed to her.
President Majella emphasized on the importance of the
role of an Archivist, who is specially trained in
preserving original materials, state documents, and
other historical materials, and helping people to obtain
it. Archivists work with paper documents, photographs,
maps, films and computer records. President Majella's
sharing of her vocation really helped us to realise just
how important an Archivist's work is, in keeping history
intact for future references.
