STUDENTS CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
ATRIUM –COLLEGE LITERARY CLUB
With about bazillion thoughts going through an average human brain per day, it may
be well established that many of them get imprisoned for the lack of a proper platform to
express. You may be a writer, a poet, a reader, a speaker or a thinker. You may be all, or you
may be none. But what really matters is your zeal and zest to express your individual self, the
way you want to After four years of college, when you are made ready to step out into the
real, big world and face people, challenges and situations that life throws at you, you might
wonder why you never really tried coming out of your protective, little shell right here, at
college. This is perfectly the right time to get out of your cocoons, not be the big frogs in the
small pond anymore, but transform into the iridescent butterflies you wish to be. Atrium is for
that, and much more.
Atrium, REC’s very own literary club aspires to contribute in the development of the student
community. To all those people who are daunted by the thought of expressing and
communicating, Atrium gives them the platform to overcome and excel as a speaker, a writer,
a reader and much more. The club holds meetings periodically for the students with various
challenging activities that tend to improve their oratorical skills, develop the leadership
quality, gain confidence over their command of language, and on the whole bring out a
drastic change in their personality.
106
Scintillations, the annual magazine of Atrium feature the exclusive articles written by the
students that puts the readers in awe. The magazine is launched every year at our literary fest,
War of Words (WOW) organized by the board members of Atrium in collaboration with the
Debating Union. Through War of Words, an intercollegiate event, we bring all the like-
minded people from various colleges across Chennai, sharing the same love for literature
under one roof. Debate, Quiz, Block & Tackle, The Great Game, Green Screen, Shipwreck,
Channel Surfing and Creative Writing are few of the events that test the participants’
intelligence, creativity, dexterity and sense of humour.
107
With the world getting digitalized, Atrium also spread its reach. Through Facebook and
Instagram, we influence a larger group of people beyond the walls of our college. Daily Posts,
Project a Thousand Words, Rebus and many other online activities showcased the enthusiasm
and the potential of the youth today towards literature.

ENACTUS
Enactus REC, a social entrepreneurship club of the Rajalakshmi Engineering College, believes
in investing in students who take Entrepreneurial ACTion for others thus creating a better
world for US all. The idea of bringing about a concrete change in our society without clinging
onto to the tag of ‘charity’ led to the inception of Enactus REC in 2006. Every earthly soul
would indeed be happy to be a part of their own success, to know that what they have is a
fruit of their hard work and not something that came by charity. Hence, we at Enactus REC
tickle and channel the ingenuine entrepreneurial skills that had been lying dormant within
the youth to set up business models for the economically challenged thus bridging the gap
across communities.

WHAT DO WE DO?
PARISUTHAM
Project Parisutham kick-started in the late 2014 at Ennore with the view of leading a hygienic
and wholesome life by the manufacture of high quality cleaning aids. The target audience,
who were the victims of the disastrous 2004 Tsunami, were trained to manufacture and
market the phenyl they made. Parisutham, one of our most celebrated projects has made its
way across various local retailers and government organizations thus giving the target
audience a sustainable living.
DHANIYAM
Project Dhaniyam that rolled out in the early 2014 was a potent step toward healthy cooking
and eating practices. Dhaniyam was incepted at the MMDA Colony where the target
audience where trained to make lip-smacking delicacies made of ragi, a variety of millet. The
initiative garnered the attention of various retailers and temples thus production ebbed and
flowed across the city.
110
AVANTIK
Avantik vouches for environment-friendly agricultural practices by narrowing the use of
pesticides on crop plants. This innovative idea employs the organic wastes of the rural
population for manufacturing bio-manure through vermicomposting thus enriching the
agricultural soil. Avantik is a sure-shot way of flourishing agriculture bringing in sunshine not
just to the farmers but to the entire rural troop.
SURVEY
We conducted survey sessions across different parts of the city to know about the living
conditions of the people and to know more information about what they do for a living.
Analysing the various situations, we had to come up with a new project idea for an indigent
set of people in need and hence we came up with our new project.
KAGIDHAM
Kagidham is an initiative that was constituted in the year 2016. Through kagidham, we reach
out to the intellectually-challenged population and train them in the manufacture of
notebooks by binding the blank sheets of paper that would be provided to them. The
distribution of these notebooks would find its way across several educational and corporate
organizations.

The Rotaract Club Of Rajalakshmi Engineering college has successfully completed 7 years of
Rotaraction and is stepping into its 8 th year. Over the years our club has been a support
system for the growth of many youngsters. The endeavors of our club are unique in every
aspect and have always struggled to achieve perfection in whatever we do. We’ve also been a
part of various fund raising events that had resulted in an affirmative change to the society.
Our parent club, Rotary Club of Chennai K.K. Nagar has always encouraged us in our ventures
and act as a strong pillar of support. With the combined efforts and involvement of the
students of our college, our club has crossed several milestones and will continue to do the
same in the upcoming years.

The club which holds a legacy of 7 years, armed with thousands of rotaractors each year was
made to crown for installation on August 6, 2016. Memories are timeless treasures of the
heart, our installation was the most priceless of all. We are indebted to those who shared the

aid the people in need has occurred in phases. We are proud to inform you that we have
collected a record breaking amount of 519 units of blood in just 5 hours. Without the kind
donation and support from the rotaractors and college management, this success would have
not been possible. We express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming response to help
this noble cause.
RECord:
This record collection drive project is a signature project with numerous accolades. This
project initiative brought together people from various streams to help the visually
challenged people by donating their records for Braille sheet manufacturing. This project

turned to be a project which also instilled us the importance of paper resources and the
potentiality to reuse resources.
SUVADUGAL:
One such project that strived to promote unity which was a proud moment where everyone
got to teach kids that bonded them into a single unit of togetherness. A team of enthusiastic
rotaractors from each department packed their bags and teaching stuffs and introduced the
orphan kids to the world of computers. The project was made to continue in different phases
upon success to cover as much of orphanages as possible.
