Chapter Events
Diamonds Awards Brunch
On Saturday, February 13, 2016, the Wake Forest-Rolesville Alumni Chapter of
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated hosted its first Diamond Awards Brunch
at the Wakefield Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event recognized
community leaders, philanthropists and trailblazers that impacted the
Triangle area in 2015.
Our mission: to prepare young men for post-secondary opportunities by leveraging their talents
and remediating their deficiencies. In an effort to undergird these strategies, our inaugural
fundraising goal for 2016 was $5,000.
DAB, as it was affectionately coined by the Brothers, supports our Scholarship and National
Guide Right initiatives including: The Kappa Leadership and Development League, The
Diamonds in the Rough Program and Kappa Kamp to name a few. We allocated the proceeds
from this event toward these programs.
Kappa’s Against Cancer
On June 8, 2013, the Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter participated in the Susan G.
Komen Triangle Race for the Cure in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Health and Wellness
Committee selected this event to inspire health wellness in our members and to support
women at risk for breast cancer. The Wake Forest Rolesville Chapter encourages health
and wellness activities for the brothers and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
In addition to the fellowship for the brothers, it provided an opportunity for a family
event. Numerous brothers and their family members participated our volunteered to make
this event a success. The inclusion of family members allowed the brothers to model the
value of community service and health for their families.
Our participation as a chapter included a commitment to raise money to end breast cancer
forever. To prepare for the 5 kilometer run, brothers trained by walking and running.
Other triangle chapters were invited to join us. This event continued to be an annual event
for the chapter through 2018.
Adopt a Family
The holiday season brings joy to countless people around the world. It is also a time of sadness
and anxiety for those who do not have the means to provide food or gifts for their families. The
Wake Forest-Rolesville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi recognized the vital need to help
those who are less fortunate and budget funds each year for a family need.
Through county programs, local churches, and word of mouth the Wake Forest Rolesville
Alumni Chapter has identified and provided help to a family in need of assistance. The Chapter
and its members have purchased many items such as food, new clothes, toys, games, and
furniture. As one of the most altruistic gestures of the chapter, Adopt A Family is never lacking
enthusiasm or volunteers. Over the years, Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter has had an
impact on as many as 15 families through this program. Each year as the needs of many
continue to grow so will the support from the Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter.
Turkey Drive
The Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. has provided
Thanksgiving meals for families for the past seven years. This tradition began during the 2014-
2015 fraternal year. After working with the community on serval projects a pattern of need was
observed by several fraternity members. The Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter began to
collect canned food and non-perishable food items to distribute within the community. While
distributing the canned goods and perishable items an additional need was observed. There were
families that needed turkeys. The Wake Forest Rolesville Chapter made a financial commitment
to provide the needed turkeys for these families. After making the donations, the Wake Forest
Rolesville Chapter partnered with local businesses to procure additional turkeys for future needs.
There is much anticipation for this annual event in the community. Each year the Wake Forest
Rolesville Chapter receive request for help from more families. The chapter is committed to
provide as many Thanksgiving meals as needed.
Highway Clean Up
In response to growing public concern about trash and debris along North Carolina’s roadways,
the N.C. Department of Transportation established the Adopt-a-Highway program in 1988. Since
then, tens of thousands of volunteers have reduced litter and also saved taxpayers millions of
dollars annually in roadside cleanup costs.
Adopt-A-Highway has more than 120,000 participants across the state — civic and community
groups, including schools, religious, professional, and social organizations, as well as individuals
and families.
The Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter has adopted Old Falls of Neuse road, a stretch of
highway spanning from Highway 98 to Wakefield Pines drive. We currently cleanup the
highway once a quarter as a chapter team building and community outreach event. In the future,
we will be inviting the community to attend this cleanup and possibly adding another highway in
Rolesville, NC. During recent clean ups, we have been noticed and recognized by the residents
of these areas.
Back to School Cookout
The Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapters’ Back to School Cookout began in 2013. The
vision was to do something in the community where we served while helping those in need. The
Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter began working with Wake Forest Housing Authority in
New Hope Village to carry out this vision.
The project was created to establish a direct connection with the community and to show our
appreciation by providing backpacks, paper, pencils, folders, and other school supplies. During
the event brothers volunteered their time and energy, while showcasing their grilling skills
annually to provide meals and supplies to over 300 families. Each year provides an opportunity
to have one on one conversations with strangers, but by the end of that conversation we have
created new friendships. The Back to School Cookout allots several hours for bonding not only
with each other but also the community members we serve. This event is a joyous reminder of
why we are members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
Warmth for Wake
Warmth for Wake is a seasonal energy assistance outreach program that is sponsored by Wake
County Human Services. The Wake Forest-Rolesville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi has
been participating in this program since 2011. The goal of the program is to provide fuel to low-
income residents of Wake County during the coldest winter months. Warmth for Wake achieves
their goals by supplying free firewood or space heaters to households who can’t afford to pay for
heat or lack heating sources. The project begins in October and ends in March of each year.
During the first year of existence, brothers of The Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter
yearned to find a unique community engagement that positively impacted the
community. Warmth for Wake delivers more than 300 cords of wood and 100 household space
heaters each year. Since that time, brothers have spent season after season cutting, chopping,
loading, and delivering wood to families in need around the community and bonding with each
other in the process.
Clothing Drive
Clothing drives play a vital part of providing aid to those in need. Donating clothes is a small act
of service that can help people understand the huge impact of their generosity. Donations not
only assist those who can’t afford clothes, it also aids veterans, disaster victims, and even people
with health-related issues. However, the list does not stop there, and the chapter’s vision is to
reach all underprivileged men, women, and children in need of clothing. As people grow out of
their clothes, the Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter wanted to create an initiative
emphasizing the importance of donating those clothes to those who might need them more.
The Wake Forest Rolesville Alumni Chapter clothing drive project began in 2012.We have
donated to over 100 families since the beginning of this program. The Wake Forest Rolesville
Alumni Chapter works diligently to provide for the needs of families in the Wake Forest and
Rolesville communities. This project has allowed brothers to build relationships with local
churches and have created lifetime friendships with numerous families. While providing for the
needs of the community during this project, fraternal bonds are strengthened between the
brothers. This displays a true course of altruism in our community.
Kappa League
The Wake Forest Rolesville (NC) Alumni Chapter Guide Right program has been in
existence since 2015. The chapter has focused their vision on enhancing their Kappa
League program with tools and resources to uplift our young men in today’s society. In
2016, we inducted six young men into our inaugural Kappa League class. Currently, the
Kappa League program has young men ranging from grades 9-12 that meet monthly in
Wake Forest, NC. Although the pandemic has slowed the momentum, we still believe
the program is rewarding and successful with several opportunities for bonding and
growth for young males. The 2021-2022 goal is to have a program consisting of at least
20 young men. Some of our core session meetings have included: Dress with Klass, Goal
Setting, Grooming, and Entrepreneurship.
The Kappa League has participated in several events in the area. Just to name a few:
1. At the Town of Wake Forest mayor’s request, the Wake Forest Rolesville Kappa
Leaguers led the opening pledge for the Town of Wake Forest town hall meeting.
2. Two of the inaugural Kappa Leaguers are now in their third year at the following
universities: North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central University.
3. Kappa Leaguers participated in the Need to Feed food pantry at New Bethel
Baptist Church. The event is geared to those in need while preparing their Thanksgiving
dinner.
4. Attended Saint Augustine’s University homecoming game as guest of President
Dr. Edward Ward.
5. Kappa Leaguers were VIP escorts for the play “History of Gospel Music”. The
play was composed of local church choirs. The master of ceremony was Melissa Wade
from “The Light” 103.9 FM.
