confident. So, I started to stop my obsession on singing because I
thought my voice would only disturb people. Nevertheless, I kept
searching some information about singing even though it
seemed impossible. Until I had mastered all of the vocal
information such as vocal registers, vocal range, vocal technique,
and many. But not only searching some information about
singing. Even I had vowed to God, if I have a beautiful voice, I
shall use my voice to worship God.

In 2013, when I was in 3rd grader of Junior high school, I
met two of my classmates that usually liked to play music
together with me. Until one day, I was playing music together
with them. While playing, I also sang the song that we were
being played. And suddenly, they said to me that my voice was
good. First, I thought they were taunting at me. But then, they
admitted that my voice was actually good, and after that, we
made a band to improve our music ability. And after a long time,
many of my friends liked my voice, and some of them said that
my voice was being changed become better. But, I still didn’t
believe what my friends had said to me, but many people gave
me some chances to improve my ability on singing, and I was
chosen as a lead singer in my music group and also chosen as a
back singer in my church eventually. And then, in my 3rd grader, I
had performed three times on a show that held in my Junior high
school. And I was so thankful because my friends had given me
chances to improve my vocal ability.

After I graduated, I started to study in my Senior high
school and it was around 2013. In my Senior high school, I chose
one of the most wanted extracurricular which is its choir or also
known as Smansa Choir (SC). Fortuitously, when I was joining SC,

there was a couch which also a composer selecting some of the
choir member to join a choir competition which is Asia Pacific
Choir Games in Manado. Fortunately, I was chosen as the
member of SC which is going to compete in Asia Pacific Choir
Games, it meant that my wish to compete in a singing
competition was granted. I was so happy at that time. Then, I
practiced with the other member of the choir until the day
where the competition was held, and the result was we got a
silver medal. Since that day until now, I am often chosen as a
worship leader or a singer in my church and my school either.

Those activities have improved my ability a lot, and I am
also thankful to God, my parents, my friends, my teachers, and a
lot of people which has supported me to be a singer. The most
important thing that I have to remember until I die is my voice is
a gift from God. Without God, I shall not get my beautiful voice.
In addition, my closest people which have helped me to be a
singer by giving me some opportunities to perform on a stage.

The first thing that I have learnt from my experiences
about singing is “Be yourself”. You shall not copy or follow other
singers’ style. You have to make your own style of singing. You
only can use other singers as your inspiration, but do not ever try
to copy their style. The second thing that I have learnt is “Singers
are made, not born” as Tommyanto Kandisaputra had said. I dare
to say those words because I have felt it by myself. I was born
with an awful voice, but it doesn’t mean I can’t be a singer. You
just need more practices to improve your skill of singing like I
have done. So, if you have an awful voice, don’t worry, you still
have so many chances to be a singer. Probably, you will be
scorned at your first time of singing, but just wait and keep trying

harder until you get what you want. But, don’t forget to pray,
because every single thing that you have planned shall be
accepted by God.

So, I hope my story could inspire you to not surrender

Hello everyone, First of all, I want to say
thank you for everyone who has read my
story. And now, let me to introduce
myself. My name is Stevefanus Yanli. I
was born in Bandar Lampung, April 24th
1999. I had studied in Yayasan
Pendidikan Advent Balikpapan as my
elementary school, and I had studied in
SMP Negeri 1 Balikpapan as my Junior high school, and now I am
studying in SMA Negeri 1 Balikpapan as my Senior high school,
specifically in 11th grader.
I live with my parents and my younger sister. Frankly speaking,
my father’s name is Nyanyan, my mother’s name is Komariah,
and my sister’s name is Abigail. If you are asking me what my
hobbies are, I have a lot of hobbies, they are singing as what I
have told to you in my story, then writing, playing some
instruments such as piano, violin, and guitar. My favourite
subjects are Math, Biology, and English.
Actually, I only have one achievement that I have got
which is winning Asia Pacific Choir Games with the other
member of Smansa Choir. But, I hope I shall win in the next
competition that I will face such as Bridge in PON (Pekan
Olahraga Nasional). Other than that, I have been chosen many
times to be a worship leader or a back singer in my church, and
also I have been chosen to play Piano in my church. I also have
made some songs, but only three songs which are approved by
people, even though those songs are not recognized by the copy
rights, at least I have made some creations in my life. Well, that’s

Hi, guys. My name is Rizha Rizky Aisyah. I am fifteen years
old but going to be sixteen in this year. People usually
called me Rizha or Ica, you can call me with both of
those names. I am a student in SMAN 1 Balikpapan. I’m so proud
that I can study in this school because this is one of the favorite
schools in Balikpapan and everyone wants to study there. So, I
got my big chance there. I have to use it right, because not all
people can get it. My department of school is science. Many
people said that science program would make you tired because
so much study, home works, and also the exams were really
difficult.

The books that the students brought were thick and many
and that made people scared to study in science department.
Well, for me hard work is one of a key to get success. It was okay
if there would be a lot of tasks that we have to do. As long it was
useful in my future. Really, we all need those lessons. The
curriculum that we have now is 2013 curriculum, so we have to
choose our cross-interest lessons. The cross-interest that should
be choosen by the students who are in science program are
economic, history, geography, and English literature. We must
choose two from four lessons. Because I don’t really into social
lessons, so i picked economic and English literature lessons. Why
I choose those lessons? I think, those were the easy one to be

learned and the teacher for each lessons, are Mr. Imam as the
economy teacher and Ms. Dayang as the English teacher. I didn’t
know about the teachers who will teach me there, so just chose
them. Obviously, when the school started, Ms..Dayang is my
English teacher, too. So, I got two lessons that were being taught
by Ms. Dayang.

I have been studied in this 10th grade about ten months.
The first time we were being taught by Ms. Dayang, we asked
many questions about her. They are about her life, her family,
her address, her favorite things, and so on. The first lesson that
we learnt was narrative text. When we learnt narrative text, we
should make a story about our experience when holiday. But,
there’s a rule. So, each of us should made one sentence and
wrote it on our books. Then, after making one sentence, we gave
our books to our friend beside us. Afterwards, we made another
sentence in their books. We did it again and again until one story
finished. We should make the sentence that is connected with
other sentences. At the end of activity, the story that has been
made was being returned to the owner of the book.

Meanwhile, the owner of the book should give a beautiful
and interesting title. Ms. Dayang said the title of a story should
be interesting, so it would make people interested in reading the
story. After that, we did the peer correction activity where we
had to check the errors in every sentence. The errors are about
capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. All those
things were very important in writing. After doing the correction,
we had to make it right. So, we knew the error and the right
answers, too. The next lessons was about “Yes/No Question or

“No Yes, No No” (grammar game). It wasn’t very hard since I
thought everybody can make it.

Another activity that we have done was describing a
picture. So, we had to find a unique expression. We could find it
in newspaper, magazine, and stuffs like that. We had to explain it
clearly, depend on the picture. We explained it right according to
our opinion. We played a game in every part of lessons. I think
that’s made us easier to get understand. There were so many
games that we played, even if we had a test.

We also did our test without a paper with the choosing
questions prepared by Ms. Dayang. There we had to choose one
number from 40 numbers prepared by Ms. Dayang. We did the
test twice. The first was, we were given 1 minute to answer a
question that made us became critical when we answered it. We
just had a minute to answer the question. The second was
something like a game. We have to use board or drawing book,
but its better when you use a board and you will get 1 extra
point from her. Ms. Dayang gave us the questions, there about 4
questions that we must be answered. Each true answer will be
scored 25 point. If we could answer 4 questions so i would get
100 points. The questions are about conditional sentences,
wedding tenses, and made an interrogative sentence.

There was also one important game which brings moral
value in our life, especially how to stay away from corruption.
We did ACA-ACA (Anti-Corruption Action/Anti-Corruption “Asyik
Coy”) activity. In this activity, we had various games. In the first
game, we were divided into group. Each group consists of 6
students. At that time, my group members were Tasya, Mega,
Pramudya, Marsa, and I. We had to make a yell about Anti-

Corruption. The song must be as creative as possible. We were
confused because we didn’t know what song we would sing.
While another group already made their songs and also the
movements. However, Tasya had an idea. We used Bruno Mars’
song, the title is Billionaire but we changed the lyrics. For the
movements, we just made it about less than 5 minutes. We
thought it wasn’t really maximal to be performed. But, when we
showed it in front of the class, we got the third place. It surprised
us, because we were not really ready. Finally we can make it.
Thank God so we can get extra point in this activity.

The second activity was making sentences. The sentences
were about prohibition & command. So, here’s how the game
works. There were so many papers with its words. Then we
should make a sentence from the paper that available in the
middle of the circle. When we got the sentence, we put it on the
tree. Well, before we start the game we have already make the
trees, there are 2 trees. The trees were being drawn in a board
and we had already colored it. If we made a false sentence, the
student who was not playing can give a correct answer and they
can get an extra point. We had learn the interrogative sentences.
When we learnt the interrogative sentences, we played a game.

Before playing games, every game, we made a circle first.
The game was like this, each of us should make one word with
the true word. If it was wrong, we would be eliminated and we
could continue the game. The score was started from 76 and so
forth. It was really a great game. We must be good at grammar
and also knew many vocabularies. That makes us easier. In this
game, I won the game and got the first place. Thanks God, I got
100 in this game.

The next day, we played a game about grammar, because
we almost forgot the grammar. Actually, grammar is the
important one. Each of us should make a sentence about
positive, comparative, superlative, equality, and the last was
inequality. We had to bring the things that became our examples
in the sentence to make our performance better. In this session,
we had to know a lot of adjectives. Then the game that really
made me afraid is about conditional sentence. I still confused
with the sentence that I was going to say.

The next game was about synonymy and antonymy. We
were divided into groups, there were 4 students each group. My
members of group were Phoebe, Marsa, and Fatya.We had to
guess words that were given by Mrs. Dayang by retrieving some
texts in our English book created by her. We were given five
words to be guessed. Two of us must be a director who would
give the clue, and the other must guess the words with one
requirement, we can’t use our gestures.

If we used it, we will get minus point. In that game, my
group can answer all of those words. But, we got 4 minus
because I spoke bahasa Indonesia, i.e. 2 words, and Marsa didn’t
use the right uniform and also the belt. So, we got 96. Thank God
our group got the highest score in the class. We also learnt about
review text. The text was Ms. Dayang’s short story, the title of
the story was “The Sacred Promise over The Rainbow”. In this
part, we should make the story in a play performance. When we
did the drama, we should do it according to the story. However,
we can improve it, too.

We could make it as a funny story, a sad story, or
whatever you want. In this part, I became a fairy with Zakiyya.

The fairy’s job was telling the storyline so the players knew what
they had to do. Then, we had to choose the players whomever
we want. Became a fairy is not as easy as I thought. Because, we
really had to know the storyline from starting until ending.
However, the fairies also played the drama. So, here’s how it
worked. The players, who had a good acting, will come to the
final round. In the final round, all of the players should act with 3
or more characters in one minute. The characters were decided
by Ms. Dayang. When Ms. Dayang said the antagonist characters,
we had to be sarcasm. When Ms. Dayang said protagonist
characters, we had to be the kindest person. We had so much
fun activities and lessons as well.

I love to learn with Ms. Dayang. Because we are not really
with that serious situation when we were being taught by her.
We did some activities that made us happy, enjoy, and
understand her lessons. From the games that we have done, we
could know our mistakes. Now, I knew how to pronounce some
words. I knew the right one, which are about grammar, tenses,
and all that I’ve never known before. Then, we can express our
feeling when we were studying. Not, only about lessons. Ms.
Dayang always keeps us to be a discipline student. We have to
use the right uniform and all school attributes. Ms. Dayang also
taught us about how to make a good story. Because she was a
writer, so she shared her talent with us. She had already made
seven books because she loves writing a lot, she always invited
us to follow a seminar about writing. So in that seminar we were
given some knowledge about how to make a good story. We got
extra point if we followed the seminar. She always motivates us
in such a way. She always supports us with all the activities that

we chose. One thing I like about her, she never get mad on us.
When we made a mistake, she just gave us one punishment and
a minus point. She never got angry to us. She just wants us to be
a better student with a good behavior. She always gave us extra
point if we helped her in the classroom situation. For instance,
when we helped her to record her activity along the teaching
learning process, erase the board, be a chair person to open and
close the class activity, and edit the video of our learning
process. By giving us an extra point, she taught us to appreciate
someone’s efforts. She also made us to be brave to speak in
front of many people.

Balikpapan, November 15th 1999. I live with
my parents. My father’s name is Agus Eko
Subagio, he works as employee in a Company
and my mother’s name is Sri Wardaningsih.
She is a government employee who works in
Kanujoso Djatibowo Hospital. I have one sister, her name is Siti
Rachmaniah. She is right now in the fifth grade. I have ever
studied in TK Rahmaniah, SDN 003 Balikpapan Tengah, and
SMPN 1 Balikpapan. Right now, I am in the 10th grade of SMAN 1
Balikpapan.
Frequently, people asked me about my dream, what I
really want to be. When I was in elementary school, I really want
to be a teacher or lecturer. For me, teacher and lecturer are
great professions. I love to give and share what I have known
with another people. Sharing something useful with someone is
something great but, recently I want to be engineer in one of
famous company.
My hobbies are listening to the music, watching movies,
and reading novels. The novel that I often to read is John Green’s
book. I love his books. For me, John Green is the greatest writer
ever. Even if the sentences that he used are difficult to be
understand (maybe because I am less known the vocabulary) but
I love his sentences. He made the most beautiful sentences ever.
The storyline is so interesting. His novels are often being

the movies always get the high rating. Because of reading books,
I start writing. I do writing when I have time and also when I have

Hi everyone! Thanks for vacating your time to read my
story. My name is Zakiyyatul Munawwarah, you can call
me Zakiyya. I am now a first year student in SMA 1
Balikpapan. With this writing, I want to tell you about my feeling
and experience along I studied with my English teacher. Ms.
Dayang Suriani is her name. But, students recognized and called
her MD. She teaches my class twice a week, on Wednesday and
Friday. With two different days with her, sure we got two
different lessons. English Literature is on Wednesday and
General English is on Friday.

For the first time that she taught me, I was so amazed of
her, honestly. With her fluency talk in English, she told us about
her life and achievements. Especially, in writing story or inspiring
book. From that, I got my first impression about her. She’s
intelligent, considerate, cheerful, funny and humble. One special
thing from her learning is “make a circle”. When she comes to
the class, then she says “make a circle and sweep the floor”. We
just do it. We make a circle by our chairs and there’s a free space
in the middle for her. Then, we start studying.

Actually, my friends and I are so scared of English. Maybe
it caused by grammar. However, MD always makes us confident
to speak and don’t care about grammar. The important thing is

“try and try”. MD also gives us many challenging games for
learning. It makes the situation of learning change to be fun, not
boring or scared again. Furthermore, I want to tell many games
that my friends and I ever played with MD in my class.

Aca-aca tree is one of them. This activity is kind of anti
corruption action for learning process. As student and another
people, we have to know and support to stay away from the
corruption. One simple thing is being honest. So many
corruptions happen in our country. It caused by many people
neglecting for being honest. With this game, we could know and
must support to say no to corruption. We make command,
prohibition and common sentences for every student on a card
board which had already cut into some pieces. We wrote word
by word on those card boards. I made mine on colorful card
boards. At least, the color made my extra ordinary hand writing
better. The game hadn’t started yet. We had to draw a big tree
as a place to stick our little card boards. That tree drew on three
big card boards which combined into one. After that, we colored
it.

In addition, in MD’s lesson, all students were active and
always help her will get extra point for the score. So, don’t be
afraid if you are MD’s student, you will not get under standard
score. But, it depends on the student, want to be active or not. It
shows that, curriculum 13th is transpired here. Furthermore, Aca-
Aca tree and little card boards had done, but how to play it?
Before the game started, we collected and disordered all. We
have to make one sentence from random car board in one
minute. Then, stick it on Aca – Aca tree. Every group consisted of
four until five people. However, just two people who would play

in every chance. One was looking for the little card boards and
the other one was sticking it to the tree. Everything had done
and it was the best time to say ‘Let’s begin the game!’

My group consists of four students. They were Lutfi, Linda,
Bibie and me. Lutfi played with me while Linda and Bibie were
together. When it was my turn, I was as the searcher and Lutfi
was as the sticker. It extremely scared me. I was afraid if I
couldn’t make a sentence in one minute. Finally, I got it. I made

three parts. The right side was command sentence, left side for
prohibition and on the top was common sentence. Lutfi sticked
our sentence on the top of the tree. MD checked it. Nothing’s
wrong with our sentence and we got the best score. Thanks God.
All students got their turn. In the end of the game, we could see
Aca – Aca tree was full with many words about anti-corruption
for example keep Indonesian government clean from corruption,
Don’t be a corruptor!, stay away from corruption and so on. We
felt so contested and of course happy. In another lesson we’re
thinking hard especially physic and math, but this lesson we
could learn and play at the same time. Through this learning
process, MD gave some hidden messages to stay away from the
corruption. It should be started when we’re still young. The
simple one is being honest. Besides, we could be more creative,
active and be a critical thinker.

Synonymy and antonymic activity was another learning
process with MD. There were three until four people in one
group. This game is similar with ‘Indonesia Pintar’. There were
students played as guesser and the others are being director. We
couldn’t use any gesture or body language. As director, we just

gave easy explanation. Every group got five words from the text
book we had and would be guessed in two minutes. Twenty
points was given if we could guess each word, so the total score
will be 100 points. But, before guessing the words, we had 30
seconds to remember all those words. It’s director’s job. What a
tense moment it is!

So regretful to know it, there were only two groups which
could get the high score through the standard. One thing that I
can see from MD is she dislikes if their students get the low score
or below standard. She will give many ways and chances for
everyone who wanted to make the score better. How a kind-
hearted teacher I got! Thanks God you sent me teacher like her
in this curriculum 2013. Each group that hadn’t got the high
score, we got second chance and join the section two. The rule
was similar with previous one. Until everybody got better score,
we changed to another game on the next meeting. I got more
vocabularies from this game. We had to make a brilliant strategy
and also performed good work team.

MD had a lot of achievement on writing like I said before.
She created many books and novels. One of the novel is “The
sacred promise over the rainbow” is the real prove. This is a kind
of romance story with many moral values written in this story.
We played this story for the next activity. Suci and Elang were
the main characters there. So, we called this Elang and Suci’s
story. This activity wasn’t made into groups like before. We
played one by one through monologue expression. Yup, we
played a drama depend on the story of “The Sacred Promise over
The Rainbow.”

In this activity, I didn’t play the characters in that story but
I was acting as the fairy. Directing the storyline and choosing the
player was Fairy’s job and it’s mine. This activity was good to
express student’s ability in acting especially and also the
creativity to improve the sentences in a dialogue. The student
who played maximally and spoke louder would survive and
continue to the final round. What about the score? For everyone
who couldn’t go to the final, they would get the score which is
appropriate with their acting. However, for the students who
joined to the final would get 90 as the minimum score. Can you
imagine that? How hard to get high score in English lesson. MD
always gave easy ways for her students.

How lucky I am! I was one of the finalists. In the final
round, I did challenging task to get the top four. First section was
just playing 3 characters in one minute depend on the story. The
game became more bothersome. The rules always changed.
From 3 characters, we played 4 and 5 characters in one minute
until there were top 4 finalists. I was into it. Thanks God. This
game could make my adrenalin worked. It also could dig out our
ability in acting, speaking and being a critical thinker. Actually,
there were many games that my class ever played. Yes or no
question is one of them. In answering the question that was
given by our friends, we couldn’t say yes or no. Just answer that
based on the grammar rules.. For example “Do you like pizza?”
The answer is “I do or I don’t –not-- “Yes, I do or No, I don’t”. It
looked simple but it could make you out of this game and failed.

From the learning process above, we can see that MD has
good method for teaching us easily. Hopefully, it can be an
inspiration for other teachers to make the learning process

becomes creative and innovative. The students can easily
understand and memorize the lesson by putting game inside it,
especially for English. However, playing and learning at the same
time isn’t appropriate for physic and math. I know there were
some teachers have been using this method like MD. MD also
gives easy ways and chances to help her students to get the high
score on her lesson. She’ll not let us stay in lower score. She’s
truly a care teacher. When she taught us, she was also giving
some jokes. Of course, everyone’s laughing, spontaneously. I just
want to say thank God, because I have a chance to be one of
MD’s students. Hopefully, next time I can do her teaching and
messages in the real life. So, their teaching for me isn’t useless. I
hope God always bless you MD and thanks for everything.

Zakiyyatul Munawwarah F.S. is the full
name of this girl. Everyone can call her
Zakiyya. Zakiyya was born on 10th February
1999. She is the second daughter of H.
Sarbini and Nur Cipta Laili. She didn’t feel
the happiness of being kindergarten’s
student. She is graduated from SDN 005
Balikpapan Selatan and SMP Negeri 1 Balikpapan. Now she’s a
first year student in SMA 1 Balikpapan. Zakiyya is a moody girl.
She can just stay in her room and listening to music when she’s
getting bored. However, everything she does just to make her
parents proud of her. Zakiyya is interested in doing sport, like
martial art and volleyball. She had a lot of achievements since
she was in elementary school. O2SN is one of competitions
which she usually joined. She’s also interested in learning
Biology. She had ever joined Olimpiade Online Nasional (OON)
and got the provincial level. In senior high school, she hadn’t
joined Biology Olympiad yet. However, she had joined
Astronomy Olympiad and got 8th position. She’s struggling and
just hope her dream for being surgeon doctor will be coming

Hello guys, my name is Najmi Rofifah Gazali, my friends
usually call me Najmi or Najem, I was born on 19th of
May 2000, so I’m going 15 in one month! So excited
about that. I’m a 10th grader in Senior High School 1 in
Balikpapan which well known as SMANSA Balikpapan, one of
favourite school in my city, Balikpapan, East Borneo. And of
course, I really proud of my school. I’m in science program,
which the lesson isn’t easy at all, like Physic, Chemistry, and
Biology. Most people think that Science is very hard and we, the
science students always bring a lot of thick books, have a lot of
tasks, homeworks, and difficult exams aren’t really worth
anything. but I don’t think so, it is really worth something good in
the future. For example if we become a doctor, that Biology
lesson is very important.

Doctor is really a great job, right? Actually if we do
something sincerely, we will get something better, like a lot of
new knowledge, and even better future. Now we have
curriculum 2013, which demanding us to be active, creative, and
have a critical thinking. My teachers said that Minister of
Education made curriculum 2013 to make students better and
will become gold generation. And now, I’m going to tell you guys
my experience in learning English with my kind hearted and

lovely English teacher, Ms. Dayang Suriani or usually called MD.

Our first lesson was about anti-corruption, she wanted us
to bring some cardboard and stick it on the wall, and draw a big
tree in it. After that, MD told us to make a yel-yel and write a
sentence about anti-corruption, and we should cut or separate
that sentence per words, then put them together with all
students’ sentence. MD made a game where we should work in
team, one team consist two students which one student
searching the words to make a sentence, and the other student
waiting and stick the words that already chosen in the big tree.
That was very fun game! Everything that MD taught us to do was
fun and makes us easy in understanding too.

Another fun game, we played seven-up game. MD asked
all students to stand up and count, but when we get seven,
fourteen, twenty one and next number,we should say “seven-
up”. Whoever says the wrong order, will be discualificated. There
are a lot of us that didn’t concentration and became wrong. And
that game wasn’t easy as it looks. We also played Coconut game,
where we make the alphabet C, O, C, O, N, U and T with our
hands, that was fun and the tempo is became faster and some of
my friends said that was difficult because high concentration was
very needed in this game. Yes, MD is purposed to test our
concentration in learning and doing something.

Helping Mom’s game, our class was being separated by
four groups, which each group consist of nine and ten students.
MD asked us to do some acting, one students in each group
pretend to be Momma, the rest is acting to help Momma. It’s
begin with scene where we still sleeping and Momma woke us

up. In my group there is one person who can’t wake up, so we
woke her up together. After that we pretend to go to the
bathroom and act like we were taking a bath, but of course, with
our clothes on. Then we acted to help Momma cleaning the
house, some of us just threw away the broom and asked the
other to do the job. But really, we aren’t that mean, that just an
acting. We also pretend to went to the market and bought some
needs, and we acted to cook and eat together. Our actions were
ended where we went to sleep. And as usual, MD gave us high
score.

Yes / no questions is a game which trained us to have a
good conversation with people who speak English. MD told us to
make a circle and make some questions with have, may, will,
would, can, do, are, is, and etc. students who sat beside us,
should answer the questions without ‘yes’ or ‘ no’. for example, I
asked “have you seen Ana today?”, my friends next to me should
answer “I have” or “I haven’t”. if we make mistake, we will
disqualified.

Anonymy and synonymy, MD told us to make a group of
four. Two students had to be directors and the other two should
guess. This game is quite easy, there is a volunteer to be the
reporter, which given five words by MD, and those five words is
should be guessed by the player. MD gave thirty second to the
directors to remember those words. This game was like Eat
Bulaga game, but the director should gave the description of
each word. There is no body gesture allowed. If the guesser can
guess less than four words, they team should play again in the
remedial. The maximum score was eighty. Still a good score
though.

Our game that we just played today is Elang and Suci
drama. There are two students who pretend to be a fairy and
choose random students to play the characters that involved in
the drama. Students who played the character well, will go to
the final. The final is we should played three character at one
minute. MD determined the character. so we should acted with
our spontaneity.

It’s very fun to learning with Ms. Dayang. We can learn
and play at the same time. MD has some rules, her rules were
quite easy but make us discipline, for example cell phone is not
allowed on the class, we should wear complete uniform, and
stuff like that. Once one of my friend didn’t wear a tie and he got
minus 1 point of his score. And yes, I don’t want that happened
to me so I always follow her rules. She said that there is no
Bahasa Indonesia in the class, that means we should speak full
English even with our friends, if we were caught speaking Bahasa
Indonesia, our score will also be decreased 1 point but that
doesn’t mean MD is wick, she is very generous, for example if we
helped her even just get a scissors for her, she will give us extra 1
point. That makes us loved her much. It’s very easy to get a good
score from MD, just doing good things and being active during
the lesson.

ABOUT THE WRITER

Najmi Rofifah Gazali was born on 19 May
2000 in Balikpapan, East Borneo. She is the
first of three children from Muhammad
Gazali and Mahmudah. Najmi has one little
sister named Nabila Muti’ah Gazali which
still a 5th grader student in the elementary
school and one little brother named Nawaf
Ahmad Al-Gazali which also still at the 1st grade in the
elementary school. Najmi had done her elementary school in
Balikpapan, then she finished her Junior High School also in
Balikpapan, and now she continue her education in the Senior
High School 1 in Balikpapan. She is still in the 10th grade now.
Najmi has some entertainment hobbies like listening to
music, watching movies, reading books, and sometimes she likes
to sing. Najmi has interests in Chemistry and foreign language.
According to that, after finishing senior high school, Najmi wants
to continue her education in Technology Institute in Bandung or
Surabaya which well-known as ITB and ITS. To get what she
wanted, Najmi keeps studying hard and she has extra lesson in
Monday until Thursday after school. Najmi used to think that too
much study can cause stress and pressured feelings. But now,
after she did little explore in the internet about the importance
of education and got some advices from her friends and family,
she realize that education is very important if she wants a great
living in the future.

Halooha.. let me introduce myself, my name is Qori
Annisa, you can call me Qori, sometimes my friends call
me qororo because I like to watch anime titled “The
Sergeant of Keroro.” My date of birth was on October , 1998.
I was born in East Borneo in the city of Balikpapan. I have two
brothers, I play and fight at the same time with them. My
hobbies are eating, listening to the music, watching anime, and
writing short story like this. I’m posting my short story on my
blog. There are lots of short stories that I made but sometimes I
don’t have time to post them because I had a lot of homework.
By the way, I study in SMA Negeri 1 Balikpapan. It’s my first year
in Senior High School. Through this writing, I want to express
more about my experiences learning English with my teacher,
Ms. Dayang or so called MD. Just enjoy it!
My First Impression toward MD

“ Hello guys, good morning” Ms. Dayang greeted us.
“Good morning “ all students answered that together.
She looked good and friendly, that’s what I thought about
her as my first impression. Ms. Dayang told us about the rules
during hours of English lessons, such as wearing complete
attributes, speaking English when communicating with peers,
and no cell phone during class. But I thought, it was okay, it

doesn’t matter at all. After that, MD started the lesson
integrated with anti-corruption value so called “ACA-ACA.” This
ACA-ACA stands for Anti-corruption action and Anti-corruption
Artistic.

“Class, today we are going to study about ACA-ACA. It is
about Anti Corruption Action. I’ll explain it. I’ll divide you into six
groups, one group consist of five until six person. After that,
please make a yell-yell about anti corruption,” said Ms. Dayang. I
was in group with Salma, Avila, Kharisma, and Novia. We made a
yell-yell about anti-corruption with Dangdut and Katy Perry’s
song, Roar. Do you know Dangdut? Dangdut is one genre of
music in Indonesia. Dangdut has become the hallmark of
Indonesia. After showing the yell-yell happily with excited face,

Ms.. Dayang tolds us about next lesson.
“Now we’re going to study about prohibition and

command for this activity. Prohibition was sort of negative
sentence like Don’t be greedy. If command, It is positive
instruction like “Be proud to say I’m not the corruptor.” Do you
understand?” said Ms. Dayang.

“ Yes, Ms. Dayang!” all students spoke up.
In this activity, we cut out the cardboard into several
pieces of papers, write one word in each paper. We make for

sentences consist of two prohibition sentences and two
command sentences.

“ Have you finished, guys?”
“ Yes, Ms. Dayang!”
After all sudents finished the task. Ms. Dayang told us to
give double tip behind words we made. Then, all the papers

were set randomly on the floor.

“ Okay, I will explain the game. So there are two players.
The first player is looking for a sentence and gives it to the
second player. Then the second player will stick it on the tree so
called ACA ACA’s Tree,” said Ms. Dayang.

2 weeks later...
“Guys, please make ACA ACA’s Tree. You just make
pictures of a big tree and color it using many colours! “ said Ms.
Dayang.
“Yes, Ms. Dayang!” The students response it.
Back to ACA ACA (Anti Coruption Action)...
We played the game with tension and excited at the same
time. My partner is Avila. Avila was acting as the first player and
me as second player. We succeed to make a sentence, command
sentence like “We have to talk honestly.”
The following is the second story of mine. This is a
monologue drama taken from a story “The Sacred Promise over
the Rainbow’s. So, how’s the play?
That day, Ms Dayang shared a book or a module with us to
learn, and in that book, there is a short story written by Ms
Dayang. The tittle is The Sacred Promise Over the Rainbow. This
is what MD told us to do.
“Dear class, today, I assign you to make a critical review of
the story which consists of background, readers’ view point,
strong and weak point also your impression after reading that
story. All explanation have been printed in your modul so just
read the story and the way how to make the critical review. If
you find any difficulties, I’ll be glad to help you. For next week,
we’re going to have a play performance in accordance with the

story, so, please prepare yourselves class!” said Ms. Dayang to
us.

Okay, Ms. Dayang,” we answered it together. After that,
we’re busy reading the story then made a critical review.

Part 2. The Play Performance of The Sacred Promise Over the
Rainbow Story
MD explains the story and play performance…

“Class, I’ll tell you guys about this story a little bit. In this
story there are Elang, Suci and Bima as the main characters. In
the storyline, Elang worked in the wood company named PT.
Elang Perkasa in Balikpapan and Suci is the owner of Suci’s
Florist. They are from the same hometown, Balikpapan. They
were engaged and a few months later, they’re going to get
married. They like to see the view of the beautiful rainbow that
usually happened after the rain. The rainbow would be the
sacred promise for them to remember one another.

Elang is Suci’s fiance. Elang who worked in wood company
got schoked because he was blamed by his friends in case of
illegal logging. Knowing that, Suci was getting shock to hear the
news. Suci immediately went to Balikpapan to see Elang’s
condition. Suci decided to go to Balikpapan alone. S she didn’t
want to tell this bad news to Elang’s family since it might hurt
them. After seeing and talking to Elang, Suci needed to find out a
professional lawyer to defend Elang. The conflict has raised
because Suci decided to contact Bima, a famous lawyer in that
town who was laso Suci’s best friend when they were still in
Senior high school.

At that time, Bima and Suci liked reading books and they
always went to the library together. Since they always stick
together, Bima’s feeling has changed. He liked Suci but Suci
considered him as her brother. In fact, until now Bima still likes
Suci. So, there were triangle love between Elang, Bima and Suci.
However, Bima needs to be patient because his loving to Suci
could not be reached.

In that story, I acted as one of the fans of Bima with Icha,
Marsa as Bima and Linda as Suci. This story happened when
Senior High School. Icha and I were getting angry because Bima
and Suci were always together. This dialogue showed what my
friends and I did in the play performance based on the scenario
from the story.

“ Hey Suci! Go away from Bima! You’re not his girlfriend!”
said Icha.

“ You have mirror at home, right? You’re not beautiful as
me,” said Qori.

“ Hey ladies, why you do that to Suci?” said Bima to us.
“ What? Well, well, well, are you okay Bima?” asked Qori
while seeing Bima cynically.
“ Stop talking bad to Suci, guys!” said Bima. Suci just kept
in silent. She was speechless seeing her friends mocked her.
“You should stay away from Bima, Suci. Bima is mine not
yours.
“Do not listen to them Suci. Let’s go to another place!”
said Bima wisely.
“Wait, Bima… What about me?” asked Qori and Icha
together.

Bima just ignored them. Together with Suci, they left them
quickly while Qori and Icha were getting disappointed seeing
Bima’s attitude. They planned to do the second strategy to get
closer to Bima.

The story above is one of many scenes in “The Sacred
promise over the rainbow. “ There are other scenes which are
also interesting to be performed. We did the play performance
based on the full story. MD really made our class just like a
theatrical class ever. I’m really happy to learn this subject.

My second impression after learning with “MD”
Happy, excited and I can’t wait for the English lesson to

come because it’s fun and joyful, that’s my impression in
learning English with Ms. Dayang together with all my friends in
the same class. There are cool and challenging things from
learning English, that’s because I like English lesson. At last, I
have message for Ms. Dayang. I hope you are given a long life by
Allah SWT and keep your spirit to teach us nicely.” I love you
MD.”

"Sometimes our lives become easier if we did not face many
choices, but this is our choice to live.”

Huffttt… what a tiring day. I Expanded my body in this soft
mattress, because my body looked like crushed. Yes, that day I
had just come back from SMANSA, where I studied after the
holiday was over. Somehow I felt very tired these days, probably
because earlier to take care of my needs to study in SMANSA
plus my condition which was fasting right then. Given that
blessing, I remembered the words from my friend "Life is not as
smooth as the feet of the girl band." It is ambiguous but it is true,
even though I have been accepted in SMANSA but the taste of a
big struggle has not ended.

In fact. this time, I was very confused, confused to choose,
hahaha, this is the real dilemma I had ever had. I read the paper
until it became scrambled, I read repeatedly, the subjects which
contained in the paper. Yes, it is a paper for selecting the “Lintas
minat” subject and to this day I was confused to choose which
subject and teacher I’m going to have.

“Tia what subject will you choose?” My mamas’ calling
that wake me up. Yes, my name is Tia first child from my family.

“I don’t know ma, I'm still confused.” I replied it weakly. I
was very weak, the effect of fasting is also true might be.

“Why you need to be confused, you only have one to
choose, right?” My mother asked me with a high tone.

“Yes, but it’s not only choosing, if the “Lintas Minat”
subject is not suitable with my desire, I would be distress!” I

replied with high tone.
“So, why you did not ask our neighbor, she was one year

above your class.” Hmm ….hearing the words from my mama, I
got an idea. I need to come to my neighbors’ house. However,

because I was really tired so I decided the next day, I would go to
my neighbors’ house.
The next day…

“Assalam’ualaikum… Rina, Rina… this is Tia, Is there
anybody home?” I said hello, while I knocked on the door of my
friends’ house, Rina.

“Hey…Tia, Wa’ alaikum'salam, please come in, Can I help
you?” Asked my neighbor with her loud voice.

“Ehmm, I want to ask for your advice, “ I beg her.
“Oh, suggestions for what?” asked her.
“I want to ask for your advice to choose my “Lintas Minat”
subject. I don’t know, what subject I should choose.
“Oh, what’s wrong with the subject of “Lintas minat?”
“So today, I'm still confused to select the “Lintas Minat”

subject which make me doubt whether it is suitable with my
interest or not! ” I replied slowly.

“Ok, so, what subjects do you like?” asked my neighbor.
“English literature and economics actually, but I still

confused to choose English literature, because my English skill is
not good.” I said to her.

“Well it's nice if you work in the field of economic industry
someday you definitely need to master the English as well.” said
Rina wisely.

After hearing her answer, I found many ideas. We did a

long discussion and it made me happy. After that, I decided to go

home and tell my mother about my choice.
“Assalamualaikum, Mama, Tia has chosen the subjects I’m

going to learn!” I told to my mom happily.
“Okay, which do you choose?” Asked my mom to me.
“I chose economic and English Literature.”
“Oh the English literature who is the teacher that you

choose?” asked my mom curious.
“Ms. Dayang Suriani, I answered optimistly.
“Oh It’s nice to hear that, she is one of the outstanding

teachers in Indonesia, hopefully you can get better at learning
English.”

“Oh, that’s great, thank you mama.” I hugged my mama
tightly.

“OK, now you must take a rest!” suggest my mama.
After that I took a rest and at the next day I went to school

again to submit the paper for the choosing subject to the teacher

of SMANSA to be recorded.

OK. Today is the third day for me to learn in SMANSA, right
on Wednesday; I will learn The “Lintas Minat” subject that I
chose from the beginning of registration, which is ENGLISH

LITERATURE. The teacher that I choose is Ms. Dayang. I have

heard the news about her she is an outstanding teacher in

Indonesia. It became one of the reasons why I chose her. In

addition, many seniors in the school said that she is someone

who is firmly and discipline, it made me a little bit afraid to start
a lesson; somehow the figure that I thought at the beginning
about Ms. Dayang is a lady with “fierce figure.” However, it is
just opinion from some people, I also don’t know how is Ms.
Dayang actually.

"Assalamualaikum everyone!” It is the voice from Ms.
Dayang. The first impression when I saw this teacher is “Oh My
God!” She is very pretty but the shadows whether she had firmly
figure still came inside my mind and it made my hand cool. I'm
serious and when she started her first lesson I did not
understand what she said. Sometimes, I cannot follow her
teaching well, because I was not fluent in speaking English. I only
had a bit understanding on English subject.

Despite having wrong perception, Ms. Dayang also spoke
fully English from the beginning till the end. I began to grasp
what she was talking about after a few minutes. I guess because
of the way to say something right first she spoke slowly so I could
find a clear understanding toward her speaking and her
pronunciation is as well as the pronunciation from the native
speaker.

For this first meeting, we were welcomed by Ms. Dayang
to ask some questions about Ms. Dayang from her favorite color,
address, the reason of being the teacher, the goal – her husband
and children and her favorite sport. The point is the classroom
learning was very excited, as well as the rules while learning
English. Something which made interesting in her was,
previously, she wanted to be a dentist and she told a story about
her family especially her mother.

From the first meeting, I had dismissed all the stories of
some students who said that studying with Ms. Dayang was not
exciting. However, for me it was very comfortable from the first
impression. It was really excited having taught by her and I want
to share all my learning experiences with you. So, please
continue reading this essay is ok!

“ACA – ACA” (Anti-corruption action—Anti-corruption artistic)
At that time we learnt about “Aca – Aca.” It was about

Anti-corruption action integrated in English subject. “Aca – Aca”
is the name of two images of trees. The first tree told about a
command, prohibition and statement on anti-corruption. The
trick is we were divided into several groups and each group had
to create a command, prohibition and statement in the
cardboard that has been cut out as creative as possible.

Each group also had to make slogans of anti-corruption.
For “Aca-Aca” game is still easier, each group should be able to
find some pieces of word, which will be combined one another
to make one complete sentence. The point of this game is very
exciting! In the second tree there is a noun, adverb and an
adjective, so each student was instructed to line up and mention
the sentence associated with anti-corruption which was written
on cardboard. Those words were combined to make a complete
sentence. Besides, the group that come to final session, should
look for adjectives, adverbs and nouns as many as possible to
increase their scores i.e. 100 points.

The game “Aca – Aca” also told us not to do corruption
because it is sinful and we need to do several things in order to
avoid that bad action from now on. Our learning activities were

recorded and documented in the form of videos. Some students
who were expert in making and converting the videos got a job
from MD to make it become an inspiring movie for learning
English integrated with Character Building. Finally, this learning
video of Aca-Aca brought Ms.Dayang to be The Innovative and
Creative teacher nationally. My friends and I are very proud of
her.

THE SACRED PROMISE OVER THE RAINBOW
The next day, we had play performance. The story was

taken from "The Sacred Promise over The Rainbow" written by
Ms. Dayang, In this play, there were two sessions. The first
session three students played each scene from the story, and a
good student who had maximal acting will become the finalists
to compete in the next round, at the second session. In this
meeting, there were a lot of benefits that we can get, for
instance, training our facial expressions while playing the drama,
fluency, and the skill of entertaining audience. The second
session was, each finalist must go forward one by one, and
played three characters in one minute taken from the story.

Ms. Dayang divided our activity into 3 rounds. For the last
round, all finalists who still survived in doing the actions have to
play six characters still in one minute. What makes me happy
learning with her is we often got extra points if we were active in
all learning activities. The spirit of learning increased
automatically. From this drama we also ordered to make a video
about the critical reviews of this story and Ms. Dayang gave a
long time to make it and produce a unique video. So, do you still
think that learning with her is not fun? Of course you need to say

sorry for that reason because what I had from Ms. Dayang is a
fun learning.

On the other hand, everyday, I'm getting the spirit of
learning English with Ms. Dayang because of her teaching
method is so creative. Another play that we had is, we played an
advertisement subject. Each student formed a group and came
forward one by one to show his or her advertisements about
product, service or something. The property is also very
supportive because Ms. Dayang wanted us to be creative
students. When the final exam came, I do not feel confused to
answer the questions because what I have learnt is what I have
in the final exam. My fear has gone and my confidence to learn
has come and stayed with me until now.

ENGLISH DEBATE
Furthermore, there is an English debate competition. For

the first time, I did not want to participate that English debate
because I think I’m not that expert to do that even got no idea
about it. At the beginning, I felt depressed. However, Ms. Dayang
always supported and said to me, “To be a success person we
have to get out of the comfort zone.” That sentence really
inspired me then, I tried many times to practice. Now, I feel very
excited to join English debate, in order to add my experience and
knowledge about things happened outside me.

Thought we were also be more critical, although the first
time I was very nervous practice debating with MD and my two
friends. However, now, I have a big spirit from my friends
especially Ms. Dayang, our team got success through it and
became a champion. Since we were the winners, automatically,

my team also get extra points from Ms. Dayang, In short,
students who were good in any field and subject will certainly
get extra points from Ms. Dayang. How lucky we are, right?

“No YES, No NO”
The sentence looks weird, right? However, I was curious to

learn about this grammar. MD told me that it is grammar subject
especially about Yes/No Question. It is simple, I thought for the
first time and I’m ready to learn! To increase the students energy
before learning grammar, MD wanted us to build our characters
especially in respecting parents. The game of character building
named Helping Mom.

Firstly, the students were divided into four groups and
each group must practice doing activities of helping mother, i.e.
washing clothes, bathing little sister or brother, shopping,
cooking, having breakfast etc. We need to prepare the
properties to make our performance look great and the
classroom atmosphere was also great with the hip hop music.
This activity was really interesting and it entertained us a lot. All
students did the activities enthusiastically with no burden.

After finishing that activity, we continued doing our
grammar material which is Yes/No Question. In general, Yes/No
Question is actually a simple material but without saying Yes or
No for the answers, it would be a bit complicated since we are
accustomed to answering the questions with the word Yes and
No with only 3 second. So, we need to answer it quickly then
give a different question to a friend beside us. For instance,
Student 1 : Do you go to school every day?
Student 2 : I do. Am I your friend?

Student 3 : You are. Have you gone abroad?
Student 4 : I haven’t.
etc…

This game is really effective for us because I got better
understanding on what is conveyed and taught by Ms. Dayang.
The game is done to make us focus and remember the using of
subject and to be properly. We did the lesson happily since MD
divided the round into two, season 1 which is all students could
participate in that activity and season 2 which is only Top 10
students could participate in that activity. The students who
came to the Top 10 would get maximum score which is started
from 90 until 100 points. Wow, perfecto!

CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
The next experience was learning conditional sentence

(grammar) with chain event strategy. As the game previously,
this game is also interesting. We were guided by MD to say the
sentence separately, between subordinate clause and main
clause, but the idea was still correlated one another. Since there
are three types of conditional sentence, we need to study those
types one by one. Fortunately, we got no problem with type 1
conditional. So, MD focused to teach us type 2 which is past
unreal condition. This is the way how we did the activity.

 If I went for a sail, there might be a storm.
 If there were a storm, my yacht would sink.
 If my yacht sank, I would die.
 If I died, my parents would cry.
 If my parents cried, there would be a disaster.
 If there were a disaster, the story would end.

All materials taught by MD were very exiting! I always
wait for the days MD teaches us since grammar is quite difficult
to learn. However, with the strategy given by MD, it will be
easier and fun. We totally understood what she said and
explained. I still do not understand why some students said that
her teaching method was not interesting. In my opinion, their
perception is totally wrong. My friends and I did not feel like they
felt. We thought that studying together with MD is fun and we
all loved the way she taught us. The most important thing is, I do
love her teaching since I really love her. My teacher, Ms. Dayang,

ABOUT THE WRITER

This sweet girls’ name is Mutiara Dewi Parisa
Kinanti who was called as Tia at home and
Mute by her friends at SMAN 1 Balikpapan.
She was born in Situbondo, January 25, 1999.
She is the first child from the great parents
Bejo and Bella Andika and her brothers’ name
is Tegar. Mutiara was born in a village that
could be considered quite remote and farthest in the area of
Situbondo. She Lived in a village which has limitations at that
time, quite affect her personally since childhood although this
time the village was arguably already ahead and hit the era of
globalization with a strong enough. She’s more motivated from
the circumstances surrounding my hometown. She grew up in a
family with hard discipline from my father and a mother who
likes reading, dad taught me to always be friendly to others,
because in life we always need other people.
The name of "Mute" is actually used by her friends to
make it more memorable, and they said it was more popular
names. She grew up in the village only until the age of 6 years
and moved to Balikpapan, because my father wanted her to
thrive in cities with adequate facilities, in the 4th grade in
Elementary school when her father decided that their family
moved to Jakarta, make it easier to meet the family, because at
that time her father settled in Jakarta but it was not happened
because her mother had quite a pleasant stay in this city of
Balikpapan. Although this time she does not lived in Situbondo,

until now she'd like to visit her hometown and observe any
changes that occur there.

I started to love writing since junior high school, but not so
often. Previously I had attended the seminar to write short
stories, which were held SMAN 1 Balikpapan and from the
seminar, I get a lot of tips to write short stories and when Ma’am
Dayang said, SMAN 1 Balikpapan will hold an English essay
writing made by some students, she was immediately interested
in following and making this essay, but she thought that this
essay is still lacking and needs to be developed again maybe next
time she can do it better.

Actually, since childhood she was more interested in
sound art, which is when the kindergarten she already followed
some singing competitions and it was supported by her parents,
when she was in elementary school also likes to follow a similar
contest with her friend. In 2013 she and her friends exactly when
sitting in the eighth grade won the race making the film, which is
held by "ENI" one company in Italy engaged in the petroleum
industry with the title of "The Best Movie". In 2014 she won the
race SPANDA choir sound art festival, two times in succession. In
high school, she has not been there the race outside of school,
only internal competitions such as the English debate, and
Alhamdullilah, she became the winner. One of the motivation
sentence that she likes is "Success is the ability to pass and
overcome from one failure to the next without losing the spirit"
from Winston Churchill. Hopefully she can reach her future goals
and be successful in the world. 

STAND BY ME, MD!

My name is Fatya Hafizha Aulia Rahma. Usually, my
friends called me Sasha. I was born on 11 February
1999 in Palangkaraya. I was study at SDN 001 South
Balikpapan, SMPN 1 Balikpapan, and now I’m study
in SMAN 1 Balikpapan. In Elementary School and Junior High
School, my favorite lesson is Mathematic. Actually, I didn’t like
English lesson when I was in Elementary School and Junior High
School, maybe because I didn’t like how my teacher teaches me.
But, when I’m in Senior High School, I felt that I like this lesson.
Initially I didn’t know who would teach English Lesson in my class
because my classmates and I were new students in this school.
On the first schedule that we got, we just knew that English
lesson was divided into 2, English literature and English lesson.
English literature on Wednesday and English lesson on Friday. On
the first Wednesday, finally we knew who will teach this lesson.
English teacher who will teach us is Ma’am Dayang Suriani, we
called her Ma’am Dayang or MD.

Honestly, my first impression when I saw Ma’am. Dayang
was I little bit scared, I didn’t know why Ma’am. Dayang was a
teacher who liked to give punishment to students who break the
school's rules. For the example, if we didn’t use school’s tie, belt,
or those who used wrong uniforms. After thinking about it for

days, I realized that Ma’am. Dayang’s action was right because
after the students got the punishment, they did not do her/his
mistakes anymore. So, all students in my class wouldn’t break
the school’s rules.

Ma’am Dayang gave minus point too to students who
break the rules. At the next meeting, Ms. Dayang wrote some
rules that we have to do when she was teaching and we can’t
break that rules. If we break the rules, so we would get minus
point from Ma’am Dayang. I knew it is good for us and to make
us better.

I do like how to Ma’am Dayang teaches us. She is so
friendly and funny. She could make this lessons fun. She teaches

English with fun games so, we could enjoy her lessons and we

did not get bored. However, sometimes I felt nervous when I got

my turn to speak English. I thought that I was not good to speak

in English. I was always nervous and confused what I have to say
to Ma’am Dayang and my friends. But, Ma’am Dayang always
supported her students who could not say anything when they
got their turn. So, they wouldn’t feel nervous anymore and they
could speak English easily.

I always liked the games that Ma’am Dayang gave to us. All
the games always made us happy and enjoyed the English

lesson. Her way to teach English was very different with my

teacher in my Elementary School and Junior High School.

Actually, my English teacher in Junior High School likes to play a
game during the lesson. But, I didn’t like almost all of his games
and I didn’t like the punishment if we loosed. Luckily, if we
loosed in Ma’am Dayang’s games, we would not get punishment.
She always gave us a game that very useful to us especially in

increasing our vocabulary. When we said the wrong sentences or
words, she always corrected it. So, we could know our mistakes
and we wouldn’t do those mistakes anymore.

My first favorite Ma’am Dayang’s game was ‘Anti-
Corruption’ game. She divided us into some groups. Each group
has to make about anti-corruption sentences. Like prohibition,
command, and statement sentences. My group got prohibition
sentences. Before we started the game, we drew a tree on each
board. There were two boards, so we had two trees. And then,
we have to make five sentences each group. We wrote that
sentences on mini cardboard. After that, we cut every word and
we could décor that mini cardboard with our own creativity. If
our mini cardboard already beautiful, we collected all words
from all groups and then we mix it.

This game was very exciting for us. We would fight with
another group. Each group has to appoint two persons to come
forward. Those two persons have two jobs. One of them has to
find prohibition, command, or statement sentences from all the
words. We played this game like a puzzle. If we got the right
sentences, we have to stick the words to the tree quickly. If all of
the groups have got their turn, we could see many sentences on
the two cardboards.

From this game we could get many lessons. Before, we
already knew that corruption is very bad to do. But when we did
this game, we got more spirit to stay away from corruption and
we can make sure for the future to not do corruption because it
will harm ourselves and others. In this game, we were taught to
think critically and smart.

In another game, we were also taught to act like an actress
or actor in ‘Sacred Promise over the Rainbow’ acting activities.
The students were called one by one and they have to play one
of the characters in that story that have been chosen by her.
Ma’am Dayang gave us the score depend of our acting. If our
acting were good, so we would get good score too but if we
couldn’t act well, Ma’am Dayang would give us a second chance.

We did synonymy and antonym game. In this game, we
were divided into some groups. Each group consists of 4
students. They had two jobs. Two of them would be given some
words. But, they have to give some clue until the two other
students can guess what that was. If we could guess all of the
word, so we got one hundred point. But if our score still less,
Ma’am Dayang would give some chances until we got eighty
points. This game is very useful for us beside Anti-Corruption
game, Acting game, and another games. From this game, we
could get many new vocabularies and test the compactness of
each group.

Those three games were my favorite games until now.
Although I still got trouble to speak English but, Ma’am Dayang
made me want to learn English more. Actually, English lesson is
very fun if we can enjoy the lesson. In Senior High School, I
started to like English lesson. For the future, I think English is
very important for us. Because of that, I want to improve my
English language skills.

I do like how Ma’am Dayang taughts us with her way. It’s
very good for students who don’t like English to like English like
me. I realized that my first impression about Ma’am Dayang was
wrong. In reality, Ma’am Dayang is very kind to us and never got
angry with us. Ma’am Dayang always teaches something that
very useful for us, for now or for the future. I am very happy
having English lesson with her.

Hi… I’m Fatya Hafizha Aulia Rahma. You can
call me Sasha. I was born on 11 February
1999. Born as a Javanese who was born in
Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan and I spent
my childhood in the capital of Central Java,
Semarang. The name of my parents are Imam
Fatkhurrohman and SuryaniTrismiasih. Now I
was in grade 10 of SMAN 1 Balikpapan. I like everything about
art, especially photography, writing, singing, and doing creative
things. My favorite colors are brown and blue, I love culinary and
I like go to some places that have natural wonders, especially in
Indonesia. My hobby are collecting unique items since childhood
and watching movies of various genres. I’m a dreamer who
believes in magic and the power of dreams and I have a lot of
desire to achieve in the future. Start writing a story or short story
since the 8th grade of junior high school when I joined one of the
city level competition in Balikpapan.

When I was in the 10th Grade, My English Teacher is Ms.
Dayang Suriani, I was always interested in how she
taught me in the class, because she had a different
method of teaching. She is kindhearted and firm at the same
time, also funny. She always gave us a chance to express
ourselves, and that’s how she made us happy and comfortable.
English is not my favorite subject, but because of her, I’ve
changed my mind. I am an English lover right now.

One day, she invited us to a game called “Seven Up” for
icebreaking, the rule for the game is, simple, the students were
instructed to form a circle and asked to count from 1 onwards,
but every time the number hits a multiple of 7, we need to say
“Seven up” instead of mentioning the numbers, and we need to
clap our hands. The game sounds simple, but the truth is the
game was more confusing than I imagined, because it was my
first experience to play that kind of game. The game requires us
to have full concentration and speed but after playing for a few
round, I was able to adapt to the game quickly, the game was
more thrilling than confusing after I understood how to play the
game. After finishing the game, we continued to study in the
