Avrohom always motivates me to do better and help those around me. He is truly an inspiration. The unfortunate accident that happened a little more than two years ago is not a reflection of who Avrohom really is. He is an extremely caring, hardworking, devoted and respectful individual. In addition to all of Avrohom’s constant acts of kindness, he is also in the process of getting his HVAC license. Part of that process is going to classes twice a week, which he has been doing religiously for the past three years. There have been many times where our friends were spending time together in the afternoon, but Avrohom always put his classes first. Avrohom is an integral part of his family and community. He was never involved in dangerous behaviors, nor does he have a prior criminal record. He is extremely family oriented, always taking care of his sister with special needs. This past summer, we spent time arranging activities in Camp Simcha, a camp for children with cancer and other chronic illnesses. Avrohom was always coming up with new ideas and concepts to give the sick children the summer of a lifetime. Avrohom is a man who always makes sure to associate law abiding, upstanding peers. Being in jail will expose Avrohom to a whole new world of behaviors and beliefs that he has not been exposed to. It may be difficult for him to retain his strong faith and amazing character traits in a jail setting. Avrohom does not need to be in a jail setting. He is not a threat to his community or those around him. Avrohom is an integral part of the community. Avrohom’s family, friends, neighbors, and extended community would greatly miss his warmth, selflessness, and happiness if he were not around. Respectfully, Yehoshua Barkin He is truly an inspiration

He would literally take the shirt off his back for someone in need Yitzy Himes 18 Kletsk Hill Rd Lakewood, NJ 08701 Dear Honorable Judge Palmer, My name is Yitzy Himes. I am a dear friend of Avrohom Pam for the past few years. He is a genuine friend, a very caring man, and an extremely motivated human being. As you know, he has almost finished 4 years of HVAC School. I recently started working in a new job, which required me to have my own truck. Shortly after starting my truck broke down. Avrohom offered me his truck immediately after hearing my plight and never asked for anything in return. Many such stories demonstrate that Avrohom is a super caring individual. He would literally take the shirt off his back for someone in need. Another such example; every Friday Avrohom helps distribute food boxes for the poor. This is just a small glimpse of what he gives of himself for those less fortunate. The unfortunate accident that happened two years ago is not a reflection of Avrohom’s true character. As I know Avrohom really well, I do not think jail is fitting for him. It will not do him any good. Probation or community service will do him and society much more. So please be kind and reach the depths of your heart and give him a chance to rebuild in a way that will have a positive long-term effect on him and the community. As opposed to the long-term emotional, physical, and mental destruction, being behind bars will cause. Do it for him and do it for all those who benefit from his selflessness. Thank you for your time and kind consideration, Yitzy Himes 908-783-5803

Avrohom has his ready smile and good word to everyone To Honorable Judge Palmer, My name is Rafael Nahari, I am the administrator of the largest girls-only high school in Lakewood, NJ. In my position I get to meet many people in our community, as you can imagine there are few that stick out in a fully positive way, Avrohom Pam is one of them. I have known him since he was a little boy. And as I watched him mature into a young man, I was more and more delighted by his essence, his goodness, and his desire to help. Avrohom is someone that you can count on. He is always ready to lend a hand even if it will cost him time and money. Avrohom has a ready smile to give to anyone in need of a brighter day. Avrohom is a people’s person, people are important to him and he treats everyone with dignity. To Avrohom, all people matter this is evident through his dedication to special needs children, his care and love for them is exemplary. Avrohom comes from a very upstanding home and has continued that legacy through his faith, his involvement in many community organizations, and his desire to help every human he comes in contact with. Another point to consider is that Avrohom is diligently committed to setting himself up in life correctly. He is working hard to finish his schooling so that he can provide for himself and his future family. Generally, jail time is to teach more positive behavior, in this case, Avrohom demonstrates healthy upstanding behavior every day. Unfortunately, the elements of the company he will have to keep will not help him gain any significant behavioral benefits. A young man of solid character will do much better serving his community and being home on probation in an appropriate environment, than absorbing the hardcore tough life in jail. Honorable Judge Palmer, accidents happen, but that doesn’t mean the person’s life should be defined by the accident. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and may God give you the foresight to make the judgment that yields the long-term desired results. Sincerely, Rafael Nahari [email protected]

Neighbors

His caring nature shines through to all those who are around him To the Honorable Judge Palmer, Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rabbi Yitzchok Itzkowitz, Dean of Students at Yeshiva Ohr Yitzchok. I have served in my present position for the last 14 years almost as long as I’ve known Avrohom Pam. All in all, I have guided and mentored thousands of students in my over 20-year career in education. As I mentioned, I have known Avrohom Pam for over 15 years. My family vacations each year in the Catskill Mountains together with the Pam family. I have had the privilege of watching Avrohom Pam grow from a young adolescent to a grown man. Throughout the years I have seen firsthand Avrohom’s inherent good nature and have benefited many times from his capable and caring talents. Many times, when as neighbors, we would need help or something to be fixed Avrohom was the one we would call and he would always gladly help out. In fact, I clearly recall the time we had problems with electricity and had no lights or air conditioning, and Avrohom, on his own, called some friends who were experts in the electric field. Together with his h-vac expertise, very soon, our problem was fixed. With over two decades of experience in education, I feel I have a pretty good judge of character and I have no qualms with trusting Avrohom Pam with my own children. He is a sweet, cheery, responsible young man who is constantly trying to help others. His caring nature shines through to all those who are around him. I beg of your honor to allow him to remain with his family during his formative years, as any time of incarceration will only have negative effects on this wellmannered and impressionable young man. I hope you will find it beneficial to society to find some other form of rehabilitation other than jail time. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely yours, Rabbi Yitzchok Itzkowitz Dean of Students BAIS HAMEDRASH • BACHELORS DEGREE PROGRAM • NIGHT YESHIVA KOLLEL BIRCHAS SHMUEL JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL • MESIVTA TIFERES SHMUEL HIGH SCHOOL 1214 EAST 15TH STREET • BROOKLYN, NY 11230 • TEL:718-258-7007 • FAX: 718-258-4919

He has always been kind, polite and productive…

Avrohom has always been curious, bright, friendly, and compassionate Hello to your Honor and the Court: I am Hartencia Johnson. I have been a neighbor of the Pam’s and their son Avrohom for over ten years. I remember when their family first moved to the neighborhood and Avrohom barely reached my waist. He was always smiling and laughing but responsible as well. He was like a little adult at times. Since a young age, Avrohom has always been curious, bright, friendly, and compassionate. Whenever he would see me doing yard work or anything outside, he would immediately run over to ask if he could help or watch to learn. Later, I would turn around and find him doing what he learned in his own yard. The event that is causing me to write this letter weighs heavy on my heart. I feel sympathy for the victim’s family. However, I feel it would be an injustice if I did not stand in support of Avrohom. It would be horrible to see the light of such a compassionate young man be dimmed. In a world full of chaos, leniency should be provided towards those who are genuinely community oriented and willing to spread goodness and the compassion of God in the world. Avrohom’s intelligence and willingness to help others with no self-interest are rare qualities that we see less and less of in this world. He is an honest, hardworking young man from a tight-knit family. I would like to ask you to have leniency on him and commute his sentence to probation and community service. Sincerely, Hartencia Johnson [email protected]

This is the way we feel about Avrohom, he is like our own child Israel Eider 144 Ned Drive Lakewood NJ 08701 To the Honorable Judge Palmer, My name is Israel Eider. I am an assistant Principal in a local school named Lakewood Cheder School, located on Vassar Avenue in Lakewood. It is the largest Jewish private elementary school in New Jersey. In my division of just two grades, Grades 5 and 6 there are over 500 students in 22 classes. I am in the education business and understand the nature of children. I have been a neighbor of the Pam family since they moved on to Ned Drive, over 15 years ago. I have twin sons the same age as Avrohom Pam. We know this family well. We know Avrohom for a long time. My sons have joined them on summer vacation. Avrohom has eaten at our home for a holiday meal. Avrohom has a heart of gold. He is very sweet and would help anyone in need. My mother is a 78 year old woman that lives a few blocks away, in the Pine River Village neighborhood, on Hawk Way. A little while ago her air conditioning wasn’t working. Her house was very hot. She called me to see if it was something simple that I could fix. I tried but could not figure it out. It was late at night and felt very bad for her. I offered her to move in with us until it got repaired, but she didn’t want to. Due to the late hour, we could not call a repair man. Then I remembered that my neighbor Avrohom Pam is in the heating and cooling business and would be willing to help. I called him and he said, sure I’ll be over shortly. He came, assessed the problem and returned early the next morning with the needed part and repaired it. Instead of charging extra for the after-hour service he gave my Mom a significant discount. He made my Mom very happy. Avrohom Pam has also volunteered to help at our home. He’s helped with our heating and air conditioning, sanding and repainting a rusty railing and most importantly if we need a hand, we know we can call on him and he would gladly help at any time of day or night. I have seen people drive wildly, Avrohom Pam does not drive wildly. It breaks my heart to think of Avohom sitting in prison with the lowest elements of society. He’s not like them and doesn’t belong with them. He’s a good natured young man. He’s a responsible young man. He works a full time job and goes to school in Toms River at night to further his education and become a licensed heating and cooling specialist. Prison will break his heart. It will cause long term emotional effects and have a negative influence on this young budding member of society. In closing, any leniencies allowed for or dear neighbor Avrohom and his very special family, will be greatly appreciated by us and the whole neighborhood. Understanding the great grief that he, his family and the whole neighborhood will feel every moment of day and night, if he is not allowed to be a free man. Please we beg of you for your mercy. Just imagine this was your own child. That is the way we feel about Avrohom, he is like our own child. Much thank to your Honor for considering my plea, Israel Eider

He genuinely wants to make people feel good, lend a listening ear and provide a shoulder to lean on. To Honorable Judge Palmer, My name is Dovid Nahari, I am a classmate of Avrohom Pam. We also grew up in the same neighborhood and we both work in the trades. I cannot imagine going about my day and having my worst nightmare unfold in front of my eyes. My heart aches for this young man whom I can attest is a man of wonderful character. As pre-adolescents, Avrohom and I would often help out directing traffic during carpool. Together we would set up school events and help out the office staff whenever we could. We would talk about how we imagined our future and the different organizations we would join to help our community when we got older. Who spends their teen years dreaming about helping others? Avrohom. He was sincere and we knew it. Today he actually volunteers for some of those organizations, honestly, I don’t. Another thing that Avrohom has is his ready smile and good word to everyone. He genuinely wants to make people feel good, lend a listening ear and provide a shoulder to lean on. We are young guys now and most of us are pretty selfish, he is genuine in his care for people. We all dream about our future and making it big one day, very few of us have actually buckled down to a serious plan. Avrohom has, he is in trade school to get his licensing for Hvac, after that he wants to find the right girl, get married and begin a family. Avrohom is a family man, his parents and siblings know that he is reliable and dependable, and his future family will be no different. The point of jail time is to learn the importance of being an upstanding citizen. Avrohom already is. He practices his faith, he is free of substance abuse, and most importantly society gains more from having him finish his schooling and continue providing his services in the honest and straight-up way that he does. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Sincerely, Dovid Nahari [email protected]

His presence always brings joy

Avrohom has always been willing to go above and beyond to help out his fellow neighbors Honorable Judge Palmer, I am writing you this letter to ask for leniency towards Avrohom Pam. I have known the defendant for more than 10 years since him and his family moved into our neighborhood. Avrohom Pam is a very kind, caring, hardworking and considerate individual. He has always been kind and respectable. Avrohom has always been willing to go above and beyond to help out his fellow neighbors. Last year he came over and fixed our central air and air vents without hesitation and is always willing to help us whenever we are in need. I do understand the loss of life due to the unfortunate accident that took place. But I do not believe that he is a danger to society or a threat to anyone in any shape or form. He is a young bright young man with a bright future in front of him that is dedicated to his family and helping his fellow neighbors. Sincerely, Jonathan A. Johnson [email protected]

…He is also great with children Honorable Judge Palmer, 12 September, 2023 Dear Honorable Judge, I have been a neighbor of the Pam family for many years. Anyone who knows Avrohom Pam knows what an honest, caring, responsible, selfless, hardworking young man he is. However, when you get to know his parents, you can immediately understand where he gets his personality from. His father, Rabbi Pam is a fantastic teacher with many students who have passed through his doors. My 12-yearold cousin, who had Rabbi Pam in third grade insists that he was the best teacher he ever had! His mother, Mrs. Rochel Leah Pam, is also a very successful teacher and a warm mother. I remember going to play by the Pams as a young girl as the Pam’s action-filled, food-filled, toy-filled home was the place to be! Just this past summer, our family went upstate to where the Pam family was also staying. Avrohom was always there to help us with anything that came up. He is extremely talented with his hands and works for a very successful air conditioning company, and helped my family for free, with electric needs that came up. (He is also great with kids and babies!) To sum it up, Avrohom is a hardworking, respectable, and honest man from a very healthy, respectable family and I believe is not in any way a danger to anyone. 114 Avrohom is a cherished member of our community

Avrohom Pam is the neighbor who is always available to do an errand or chore for my family Sarah Milstein 100 Spruce Street Lakewood NJ 08701 September 12, 2023 RE: Avrohom Pam To: The Honorable Judge Palmer, My name is Sarah Milstein and I am a Senior Paralegal for Jill P. Michaels Esq. working remotely from my home in Lakewood NJ. I have been living near Avrohom Pam for the past twelve years and was surprised and troubled to hear about his recent case as he has always been a solid person. I understand the seriousness of the matter however, I hope the court will show some leniency. Avrohom Pam is the neighbor who is always available to do an errand or chore for my family. Not only has he been available for my family but his pleasant demeanor makes it easy to ask him and he does it with a smile. He is of solid character with a soft kind heart as well as a hard worker who does not give up even if a job seems too difficult. It is my sincere hope the court takes this letter into consideration at the time of sentencing. Despite the current case, I still believe Avrohom Pam is an honorable individual and a valuable member in our neighborhood. With much appreciation for your time. Sincerely, Sarah Milstein 1 0 5 S .
