keyhole; tight bow with soldered repair evident at top, crown shows light to medium wear; good glass

425 collection of Robert L. Ravel, M.D. Mvt: Running after a twist to start, good calendar function, $400 -
virtually mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates, few fine scratches; nearly flawless $800

Unsigned Swiss, very unusual double wheel duplex with beating seconds, 54mm, nickel OF case, front
and rear latch at top below fixed bow, white enamel SS impressed dial, wound via crank assembly
inside rear and set via wheel under dial at 12, double wheel duplex escapement, unusual bi-metallic
compensation balance wheel with timing screws arranged to the inner surface of rim, gilt mvt, s#8
marked in two places to visible surface of mvt. A very unusual piece with interesting escapement and
beating seconds-register, the movement of this watch is viewed by removal of its dial. We are unaware
427 of the significance of the hour markings inside the case rear and of the minute markings to the portion $500 -
of mvt surface visible when case rear is opened, it is possible these served some function that is no $1,000
longer present, and if so some components associated with this function are presumably now absent.
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good gilt tone, some fine scratches; dial with
hl from 12 to center, light perimeter hls between 11 and 12, hl to left side of seconds-register,
minuscule flake at center above seconds-register; nearly mint hands; case shows light wear, some

10 and 12; excellent hands; case shows little wear, an attractive light patina, dings to perimeter ridge
of bezel at 1:30 and 5:30, no dents, small solder excess evident internally at seat of rear planchet;
tight bow; domed glass crystal with some short scratches.
429 Vacheron & Constantin, Genève, 53mm, 14K gold EH&Co recase was originally a HC but has been $1,800 -

William Herbert Jr, Fenchurch Street, London, 52mm, verge fusee with single hand, silver OF pair
cases, inner bearing incuse "I B" marking below coronet, rear of inner case with crudely scratched
marking "J.S., born 1712, died 1792," outer containing paper for watchmaker Nathan Atherton Jr of
Philadelphia as well as a handwritten paper with comments about the watch and its previous owner,
"Herbert London" marked silver champleve dial, KWKS, verge escapement, balance wheel without
hairspring, gilt mvt with open work foliate scrolled balance cock. Brian Loomes' "Watchmakers and
Clockmakers of the World" notes a William Herbert at Fenchurch Street in 1789. Although the present
watch has some features and design elements typical of 17th century production, the overall finish and
430 appearance of the watch is not consistent with a 17th century production date. We believe the watch $500 -
was more likely produced around the late 18th century date suggested for the maker by Loomes, and $1,000
we believe this watch was made at this time in homage, or imitation, of the 17th century style. From
the collection of Robert L. Ravel, M.D. Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall,
main plate missing a screw having a tapped hole at perimeter of uncertain function and with witness
mark to plate surface of once having had a screw at this position, excellent gilt tone, some small
scratches and fine scratches; excellent dial, black marking fill with some cracking and areas of loss;
fine hand with some oxide; outer case shows light wear, a dark patina, denting to upper perimeter of
rear, few dings and small dents elsewhere to rear perimeter, button latch good; inner case shows light
wear, shallow dent to rear right of winding aperture, some marring adjacent pendant junction; bow
pivots freely; domed glass crystal with numerous scratches.
