subject pronouns vs. possessive adjectives

The subject of a sentence is a person or thing that performs the action of the verb. Subject pronouns
are used to replace the subject (person or thing) of a verb. A subject pronoun is followed by the main
verb of the sentence, a modal verb or an auxiliary verb.

I am a good cook.
I don’t like cooking.
I can cook well.

We use possessive adjectives to show who owns something.They are followed by nouns.

present simple tense: affirmative form
We use present simple tense to talk about:

• daily routines and repeated actions: I go to bed late every night.
• general facts and permanent situations: Ken comes from the US.
affirmative sentences

In affirmative sentences, we add the suffix –s to the main verb when the subject is he, she or it. The

With the present simple, we often use adverbs of frequency to say ‘how often’ we do something.These

‘have’ or ‘have got’ Unit 8

When we talk about possessions and relationships, we can use both ‘have’ and ‘have got.’ ‘Have got’
and ‘have’ mean the same. However,‘have got’ is more informal and generally used in British English. In
American English, it is common to use the main verb ‘have.’ Also, they have differences in negative and
question structures.

I have a new motorbike. (AmE) = I have got a new motorbike. (BrE)
