Día 1 - Oriente
Empezamos en la capital, Maó. Además de ir de compras y comer algo, una visita al puerto es casi obligatoria. Haz la excursión en barco, donde apren- derás la historia del puerto, o explora a pie el paseo marítimo, deteniéndote en el camino para tomar
un refresco o tapa en el bar o cafetería que más te apetezca.
Por la tarde, elige entre una visita cultural a la impresionante Fortaleza de La Mola, construida a mediados del siglo XIX para defender el puerto de Maó de invasiones extranjeras, o recorrer las playas, calas y pueblos de pescadores que salpican la costa sureste.
Al atardecer, te recomendamos que conozcas el proceso de elaboración del vino en una visita guiada gratuita de la bodega Binifadet, donde podrás degustar algunos vinos y quesos menorquines. Su terraza es un lugar pintoresco para tomar una copa o cenar en un entorno rural.
Day 1 – The East
Set out from the capital, Maó, where as well as doing a little shopping and eating, exploring the famous natural harbour is a must. Take a boat trip around the harbour and learn about its colourful history, or simply stroll along the southern side at the water’s edge, stopping for drinks or snacks at any bar or café that takes your fancy.
In the afternoon, choose between a cultural tour of La Mola, an impressive fortress built in the 1850s to defend Mao’s port from foreign invasions, or explore the many beaches, coves and fishing villages that dot the southeast coast.
In the evening, sample some local wines and cheeses, and learn about the wine-making process on a free guided tour of the Binifadet vineyard and winery. The terrace here is a very scenic spot to enjoy a sunset drink or dinner in the quiet of the countryside.

Día 2 - El Centro
Comenzamos en el punto más alto de la isla: Monte Toro. A 358 metros de altitud, se puede ver toda la isla en días despejados, así que lleva una cámara de fotos, las vistas son impresionantes.
Desde ahí, bajamos al pueblo de Fornells, donde la gran bahía protegida es fenomenal para practicar diferentes deportes acuáticos. Disfruta de un par de horas de windsurf, vela o kayak para abrir el
apetito. Es imprescindible, porque Fornells es la cuna de la caldereta de langosta, la más famosa de las tradiciones culinarias de Menorca. ¡No te la puedes perder!
Por la tarde, descubrimos la cultura ecuestre menorquina. Puedes optar por una excursión a ca- ballo y recorrer un tramo de la costa por el Camí de Cavalls o, si lo prefieres, una clase de equitación.
Al ponerse el sol, nos acercamos a uno de los lugares únicos de la isla: Sa Cova d’en Xoroi, en Calan Porter. Disfruta del entorno y las vistas inolvidables desde esta serie de cuevas y terrazas ubicadas a diferentes alturas en un alto acantilado de la costa sur.
Day 2 – The Centre
Start today at the island’s highest point: Monte Toro. At 358 meters above sea level, you can see the whole island on a clear day, so take a camera as the views are stunning.
From there, head north to Fornells where the huge protected bay is a mecca for watersports enthusiasts. Spend a few hours windsurfing, sailing or kayaking to work up an appetite for lunch. You’ll need to because this is the birthplace of Menorca’s most famous culinary tradition, the Caldereta de Langosta - a rich lobster stew you can’t miss.
Make it an afternoon of equestrian activities. Either choose to go horse riding along the famous Cami de Cavalls coastal footpath, or go to one of the eques- trian schools in the area for a riding lesson.
At sunset, make your way to one of the most unique spots on the island: Cova den Xoroi at Cala en Porter. You can’t beat the setting or the views at this spectacular series of caves and terraces set in to the sheer cliff-face.

Día 3 - Occidente
El último día comienza en Ciutadella, la segunda ciudad de la isla y antigua capital. Disfruta de sus calles empedradas, palacios históricos y elegantes plazas del casco antiguo antes de bajar al pinto- resco puerto, lleno de restaurantes.
Retrocede en el tiempo en uno de los monumentos prehistóricos más conocidos de la isla, la Naveta d’es Tudons. Construida hace más de 3.000 años, esta tumba colectiva se asemeja a un barco inver- tido. Encontrarás otros restos megalíticos como
las taulas en forma de T gigante y talaiots en los poblados talaióticos cercanos de Torretrencada y Torrellafuda.
Completa tu viaje con una visita a una de las playas vírgenes de ensueño de la costa sur, donde la arena blanca y las laderas revestidas de pinos bordean aguas turquesas y cristalinas. Cala Mitjana, Cala Turqueta, Es Talaier, Escorxada y Cala Macarella son todas hermosísimas y un lugar ideal para pasar tus últimas horas en la isla.
Day 3 – the West
Head west to Ciutadella, the island’s second largest town and former capital. Take in the cobbled streets, historic palaces and elegant squares of the old town before making your way down to the picturesque restaurant-lined harbour for lunch.
Step further back in time at one of the island’s best- known pre-historic monuments, the Naveta des Tudons. Built more than 3,000 years ago and used as a burial chamber of sorts, it resembles an inverted boat. You’ll ind other megalithic remains such as the giant T-shaped taulas at the nearby talayotic settle- ments of Torretrencada and Torrellafuda.
Complete your trip with a visit to one of the pic- ture-perfect virgin beaches on the south coast, where ine white sand and pine-forested hillsides meet the clearest, turquoise sea imaginable. Cala Mitjana, Cala Turqueta, Es Talaier, Escorxada and Cala Macarella are all improbably beautiful - and the ideal place to while away your last few hours in Menorca.

Líthica
Un recinto de canteras de marés ya no activas que se ha transformado en un gran espacio recreativo al aire libre. Podrás pasear por las canteras, cuyas dimensiones y geometría te harán sentirte pequeñísimo, merendar en los jardines, apuntarte a un taller de escultura o tai chi,
o perderte en los laberintos de piedra. Por la noche, el espacio se convierte de vez en cuando, en una inolvidable sala de conciertos.

Líthicia
A series of disused limestone quarries that have been trans- formed into an open air recre- ational space. Walk through the vast quarries, where the dramatic dimensions and geometric precision will make you feel minute, or picnic in the gardens, take a sculpture or tai chi class and explore the stone labyrinths. By night, the space occasionally turns into an unforgettable concert venue.

Camí de Cavalls
Un antiguo sendero que bordea toda la costa de
la isla. Recorriendo el Camí de Cavalls a tu ritmo, descubrirás un aspecto más salvaje de Menorca. Los 186 kilómetros de camino están bien señalizados, pu- diendo empezar y terminar en cualquier momento. Dependiendo del tramo que realices, pasarás a través de bosques y terrenos agrícolas, te acercarás a acantilados y faros, y tal vez lo mejor de todo, pasarás a lo largo de algunas de las playas y calas más inaccesibles y vírgenes de la isla.
Queso de Mahón
Después del manchego, el Queso de Mahón es probablemente, el queso más conocido de España, que se exporta actualmente a nivel internacional. Elaborado de forma artesanal con leche cruda de vaca, se distinguen varios tipos, según el grado de maduración. El sabor varía de dulce y mantecoso a intenso y salado.
Se puede consumir solo, pero también armoniza bien con frutos secos, en las ensaladas o de postre combinado con mermelada.
Taulas y talaiots
La isla cuenta con un promedio de dos monumen- tos prehistóricos por Km2. Muchos de ellos no se han encontrado en ningún otro lugar del mundo. Cómo y por qué las curiosas ‘taulas’ en forma de T y los talaiots redondeados se construyeron sigue siendo un misterio, pero una visita a un poblado talaiótico es imprescindible.
Cami de Cavalls
An ancient footpath that hugs the entire coast of
the island, the Cami de Cavalls is the ideal way to discover Menorca’s wilder side at your own pace. The whole 186km of footpath are clearly marked and you can start and inish at any point. Depending on the section you choose, you will pass through forests and farmland, along clifs and past lighthouses, through wetlands and, perhaps best of all, along some of the island’s deserted, inaccessible beaches.
Mahon Cheese
Possibly Spain’s best known cheese after Manchego, Mahon cheese is now exported internationally. Made from raw cow’s milk using traditional methods and sold at varying stages of maturity, the lavour varies between sweet and buttery to sharp and salty. Deli- cious eaten alone, it also pairs well with dried fruits and nuts, is a good addition to salads, and is some- times eaten with a fruit preserve as a dessert.
Taulas and Talayots
Not only does the island have an average of two prehistoric monuments per km2, but many of them have not been found anywhere else in the world. How and why the curious T-shaped taulas and the rounded talayots were built remains something of a mystery, and a visit to at least one talayotic settle- ment is a must.

Cuando Emma Martí, arquitecta, compró la casa donde vive actualmente, estaba en ruina. Hacía más de diez años que no vivía nadie allí, los techos se caían y había entrado mucha agua.
En menos de un año, Emma lo había transformado en un espacio tan elegante y acogedor que no estaría fuera de lugar en las páginas de una revista de diseño.
When architect Emma Marti bought the townhouse she now lives in, it was in ruins. Nobody had lived there for ten years or more, the roofs were caving in and there was extensive water damage.
Within a year of buying it she had transformed it into a cool-yet-cosy space that would not be out of place inside the covers of a design magazine.

Lo que es especialmente inusual – y quizás el mayor reto de la reforma – es que la casa tiene sólo dos metros y medio de anchura. El edificio original se dividió en dos hace unos 40 años, creando dos viviendas estrechas, pero independientes. Siendo arquitecta, sin embargo, Emma ha encontrado soluciones inteligentes y originales para asegurar la integridad estructural de la casa sin comprometer la estética.
El espacio reducido se adapta bien a un diseño minimalista. Las paredes pintadas en blanco, los toques de madera y las grandes ventanas hacen que sea sorprendentemente luminoso.

What makes this home particularly unusual – not to mention challenging – is that it is just two and half metres wide. The original building was split down the middle 40-odd years ago, creating two sepa- rate, very narrow, dwellings.
Being an architect, however, Emma found many clever, unusual solutions to mantain the structural integrity of the house without compromising on aesthetics.
The small spaces lend themselves well to a mini- malist design, and the whitewashed walls, ample use of wood and large windows make it surprisingly bright and airy, in spite of the dimensions.

Se añadió un piso, por lo que la casa ahora consta de un despacho y la cocina con acceso al patio en la planta baja, un salón, baño y dor- mitorio en la primera planta y otro dormitorio, baño y vestidor en la planta superior.
Debido a que Emma lo estaba diseñando como un hogar para ella y su marido, pudo incluir to- dos aquellos detalles que eran más importantes para ella. Utilizó materiales naturales, locales y sostenibles siempre que fuera posible – pino para el suelo , cal para pintar las paredes, cor- cho para el aislamiento – y se aseguró de que cualquier metal estructural estuviera conec- tado a tierra, para evitar el efecto negativo que podrían tener los campos magnéticos creados por los metales.
Estos y muchos otros detalles menos visibles (suelo radiante, una cubierta ventilada, canales ocultos) garantizan que todos los que visiten
se sienten a gusto en este hogar. Ahora, con un bebé en camino, Emma y su marido están, a re- gañadientes, vendiendo su peculiar y singular casa.
Al mantener algunos de los ele- mentos arquitectónicos originales, como la bóveda en la planta baja y
la textura de las paredes de marés, ha conservado el carácter de este ediicio del siglo XIX, pero le añade un toque moderno con suelos y vigas de madera y un mobiliario sencillo y contemporáneo.
By retaining some of the original architectural features like the vaulted ceilings on the ground loor, and the rough-textured limestone walls, she has preserved the character of this 19th century building, but added a modern twist with wooden loors and beams and simple, contemporary furnishing.
By adding an extra loor, the home now con- sists of an oice and kitchen opening onto a pa- tio on the ground loor, a living room, bathroom and bedroom on the irst loor and another bedroom, bathroom and dressing room on the top loor.
Because she was designing this as a home for herself and her husband, Emma included all the features that were most important to her. She used natural, local, sustainable materials wherever possible – pine for the loors, lime- wash to paint the walls, cork for insulation – and made sure that any structural metal was connected to the earth, to prevent undesirable magnetic ields afecting the residents.
These and other features that are not so visible (under loor heating, a ventilated ceiling, hidden vents) all ensure that everyone who visits feels immediately comfortable in this house but, with a baby now on the way, Emma and her husband are reluctantly selling their quirky, stylish home.

¿Desde cuándo conoces Menorca?
Conocí y me enamoré de Menorca a mediados de los años 80 a través de amigos y familiares. Entonces adquirí un apartamento en Fornells que disfruté durante algunos años.
Posteriormente, por razones familiares, tuve que prescindir de aquel apartamento y cambié de lugar de veraneo. Pero al cabo de pocos años echaba de menos la isla y me puse a buscar nueva casa.
How long have you been coming to Menorca?
I first visited, and fell in love with the island in the mid-80s, thanks to friends and family. I bought an apartment in Fornells, which I enjoyed staying in for several years.
Then, for personal reasons, I had to sell that property and started to holiday elsewhere. After a few years,
I missed the island and began to look for a new property here.
