¿Por qué has elegido Menorca como el lugar para pasar tus vacaciones?
Efectivamente, los encantos de Menorca son irrepetibles. Me reiero a las diferentes localidades de la isla con un tipo de construcción sencilla, sin pretensiones, pero dotadas de una clase y un buen gusto que no son ajenos a la inluencia inglesa. La ausencia de masiicación permite una estancia en la isla tranquila y familiar.
Otro motivo es, obviamente, el mar y sus calas. Es imposible encontrar en todo el Mediterráneo un agua más clara y unas calas tan bonitas.
Why do you choose to spend your holidays in Menorca?
Menorca has some very unique charms. In particular the simple, unpretentious architecture. It has a certain class and style, surely a British inluence. The lack of crowds means you can enjoy a very peaceful stay on the island.
Another reason is, of course, the sea and beaches. You won’t ind such clear seas and beautiful coves anywhere else in the Mediterranean.

Cuando estás en la isla ¿hay algún sitio (playa, pueblo, restaurante, etc) donde siempre te gusta ir sin falta?
No voy a recomendar ninguna cala ni pueblo, todos valen. Sí me gustaría dar algún consejo respecto a la gastronomía. Ésta es otra de las riquezas de la isla basada sobre todo en el pescado. Mis restaurantes favoritos son El Trébol, S’Espigó, Es Pla, Es Caragol, C’an Bernat. Comida sencilla, natural, auténtica.
Acerca de tu casa en Alcaufar... ¿por qué elegiste construir en lugar de comprar?
Así pues, me puse a buscar casa, en principio que ya estuviera construida. No me atrevía a construir una. Pero casualmente un amigo, Ricardo Sanz del restaurante Kabuki, me presentó a Llorenç Pons
de Fincas Sant Lluís y Redorka, que a su vez me comunicó con Lorenzo Carreras de Fincas Venalis, que disponía de un terreno en la cala de Alcaufar. De inmediato me enamoré de Alcaufar, un pueblecito precioso, y del terreno en primerísima línea de mar.
¿Que profesionales intervinieron en el diseño y construcción de la propiedad?
Elegí a la propia Redorka como constructora y la verdad es que fue todo un acierto. Mis miedos a construir directamente no sólo eran infundados sino que el resultado superó todas mis expectativas. En la construcción, además del equipo de Redorka, in- tervinieron como arquitectos Lucía Martín y Gonzalo AB. Castellanos, y arquitecto técnico Montse Jori. Realmente hicieron todos un gran trabajo.
¿Por qué has elegido un estilo moderno para tu casa en Menorca?
La casa se realizó en estilo moderno, con grandes ventanales, porque es la mejor manera de unir la vivienda con el exterior, que en este caso es espec- tacular. Además, este estilo simple combina perfectamente con la sencillez de la isla.

When you are on the island, are there any particular beaches, villages or restaurants you always visit?
I can’t recommend any one beach or village as they all have their merits. I will share my favourite restau- rants though. The cuisine, based largely on local seafood, is another of the island’s big draws. Some of the restaurants I enjoy most are Trébol, SÉspigó, Es Pla, and C’an Bernat. Authentic, natural, simple food.
About your villa in Alcaufar....why did you choose to build rather than buy?
I initially looked for a property to buy – one that was already built. I didn’t dare to build one. But by chance, a friend, Ricardo Sanz of Kabuki restaurant, intro- duced me to LLorenç Pons from Fincas Sant Lluis and Redorka. He in turn put me in touch with Lorenzo Carreras from Fincas Venalis, who had a plot of land for sale in Alcaufar. I fell in love with Alcaufar -
a delightful village - immediately, and with the plot which was right on the water.
Who was involved in the design and construc- tion of the property?
I chose Redorka to carry out the construction and everything worked out perfectly. Not only were my fears of building a property unfounded but the end result exceeded expectations. In addition to the Redorka team, I hired architects Lucía Martín y and Gonzalo AB. Castellanos and Montse Jori as surveyor. They all did a truly sterling job.
Why did you choose a contemporary style for your home in Menorca?
The house was designed in a contemporary style, with large windows, because it was the best way to tie the building with the outdoors, which in this case is spectacular. This minimalist style also perfectly complements the simplicity of the island.
