Raley said so many schools are
dealing with budget issues, but there
are hundreds of studies that show
listening to music engages the brain.
Kids who know how to play music
are smarter and better adjusted indi-

“How do you account for me?”
asked Sherman, with a grin.

Raley, clearly used to her hus-

quick, “You’re the anomaly.”

Composing himself, Sherman
said when kids get together through
music, there are no colors. They can

“It helps break down barriers,” he
said.
