tion Day (this year it is Nov. 8)

elections gather to set parti-

While many of the old traditions still
take place every two years, in modern
times the reading of results is symbolic.

Everyone who attends to hear results
read by town crier Kirk Lawson already
knows who won and who lost on elec-
tion night.

As far as anyone can determine,
Georgetown hosts the only Return Day
in the country. Even as far back as 1860,
the event was labeled unique in a news-
paper article in the New York Tribune:
