GOALS AND ACTIVITIES ACCOMPLISHED THIS TERM 56 .

The international Association of Alpha Chapters reclaimed brothers totaling

State of the Chapter (EEL)
EEL is moving upward and onward as they carry out the vision and mission of the 7 Jewels through Manly
Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for all Mankind. The chapter was able to do a few projects through the World
Policy Council-Liberia, My Brother’s Keepers Program, the Educational Committee and Alpha Leadership
Academy.

On October 6, 2021, Eta Epsilon Lambda celebrated its 63rd Anniversary by gathering at the home of V.P.
Bro. Elias Shoniyin and engaging in fraternal fellowship with great food, music and entertainment.
The Covid-19 Tasks Force extended the scope of the project by collaborating with Bro. Dr. Ayun Cassell, III
to continue the Covid-19 Prevention Program while adding the covid treatment aspect of the project.
During the period under review a few brothers were honored and awarded by various groups.

COVID AWARENESS & PREVENTION PROGRAM
The Chapter continues to participate in awareness programs and community engagement programs. The
brothers of Eta Epsilon Lambda Chapter partnered with Bro. Dr. Ayun Cassell to package and provide drugs
to needed individuals and family to build the immunity of people. The drugs that were proposed and
purchased were Zinc, Selenium, B-Complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3 1000 and Azithromycin.
The Chapter obtained approval from the Liberia National Incident Management System (IMS). The chapter
also promoted the benefits of getting vaccinated.

NATIONAL PROGRAMS:
Brother’s Keeper Program
On December 19, 2021, the brothers of EEL visited our elderly Brothers Stephen Dunbar and John Woods.
Brothers presented holiday cheers and gifts for the brothers and their families.
July 26, 2021, The Chapter reached out to our senior Brother John Woods and provided food items,
nutritional supplements and household sanitary supplies. We impressed upon our Senior brother to observe
all the precautionary measures and stay home during these troubling times.
This annual outreach, which is normally done on Liberia’s Independence Day, July 26th of each year was
highly rewarding. Indeed, it was a great Independence Day.
The brothers of EEL initiated a medical Insurance and Life Insurance Policy for its members through
ACTIVA International Insurance. 16 brothers are currently active in these benefit plans.

A Voteless People is a Hopeless People:
December 2020, The Brothers of Eta Epsilon Lambda participated in the Senatorial Bi-Elections by getting
folks out to vote through radio messages, flyers and one-on-one engagements. A large group of college and
university students were mobilized to participate in national elections for the first time.

World Policy Council:
The World Policy Council of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity is a nonprofit and nonpartisan think tank established
in 1996 at Howard University to expand the fraternity's involvement in politics and social and current policy
to encompass important global and world issues.
It is on this principle that the World Policy Council of Eta Epsilon Lambda Chapter continues to engage and
advocate in the Liberian society. Notwithstanding the devastating effects and limitations occasioned by
COVID 19 outbreak, the Would Policy Council designed and implemented commemoration of the “The
International Day of Peace”.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence,
while providing service and advocacy for our communities.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity – Eastern Region 3

The International Day of Peace was celebrated across the world on September 21, 2021, under the theme:
“Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”. The World Policy Council brothers, in
partnership with Liberia Ambassador of Peace, Rev. William R. Tolbert, III, and the Providence Baptist
Church, held a meditation and prayer service at the historic Shrine of the Providence Baptist Church, where
the declaration of Independence of the Republic of Liberia was signed in 1847. Officiation of the Service
was led by Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves, Senior Pastor of Providence Baptist Church, along with other pastors of
the Church.

The Service was invocated by Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves; the overview and introduction were brilliantly
delivered by Bro. T. Nelson Williams, II, Area Director; Rev. William R. Tolbert, III, presented the
statements of peace; the Peace Candles were lighted by 15 members of the Providence Baptist Church,
representing the 15 counties of Liberia’s political sub-divisions. As a token of appreciation, the President of
Eta Epsilon Lambda Chapter, Bro. William Morris, assisted by Bro. General Prince C. Johnson, III, Chief of
Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, pinned each of the 15 representatives with flag lapel pins of their
respective counties. Meditation and Prayers were given by clergies of Providence Baptist Church, and Bro.
B. Elias Shoniyin gave the acknowledgment of the Service.

The Meditation service was attended by a broad spectrum of the Liberian society, mostly from the
Providence Baptist Church. Membership of the World Policy Council includes Bro. B. Elias Shoniyin, Bro.
T Nelson Williams, II, Bro. General Prince C. Johnson, III, and Bro Adolphus Scott.

Project Alpha:
May 2021 The brother of EEL continues to engage young men on the topic of responsible sex and gender-
based violence against women and girls. The brothers hosted a session with young men on leadership, sexual
responsibility, and time management. The session was facilitated by Bro. T. Nelson Williams, II at the
Conex Oil & Gas Headquarters.

Educational Activities:
The brothers of EEL are planning a two-day Career Expo at the African Methodist Episcopal University
(AMEU) on October 28 and 29, 2021. Students from five (5) universities are invited to participate in this
career expo. They will be exposed to Alpha Men and other professionals who will be sharing various topics
and their career experiences.
$1,000 was presented to the widow of Bro. Kolubazizi Howard toward Scholarship for students at a school
that was started by Bro. Howard.
Health & Wellness:
August 2021, Bro. Dr. Ayun Cassell presented on High Blood Pressure and Sugar Diabetes in a two-part
series to brothers and friends in the community. His focus was mainly on prevention. This was done through
a ZOOM call.
Alpha Leadership Academy (Mentoring Program):

State of the Chapter (EEL)
ETL currently operates six community programs in addition to assisting with numerous community
initiatives.

Impact of COVID Pandemic:
Covid-19 had a severe impact on our chapter. During the 2020-2021 fraternal year we were essentially
stymied in terms of our activities. We were only able to host one of our marquee programs the annual
Beautillion which was held virtually at the end of July. This event was held in person but under severe
restrictions on crowd size gatherings post-lockdown. Currently, the country is open however there are still
Covid-19 restrictions in place however there is an easing on restrictions on gatherings. Schools are open with
hybrid instruction.
Notable Highlights:
The Beautillion Program now in its 21st year as a “rights of passage” mentoring initiative for high school
seniors was highly successful. This despite the reformatting of the finale. We have five participants this year.
National Programs Achievements:
Note that Epsilon Theta Lambda over the decades since chartering has developed its national programs the
exception being Project Alpha. I will insert the reports on our national programs below.
Alpha Beautillion Scholarship and Mentorship Program for high school
juniors/seniors - for an overview see
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRS9Xlxc060) (https://vimeo.com/188095609)
In March 2022, ETL commenced it annual Alpha Beautillion Scholarship and
Mentorship Program for male upper class high school students. This year we have five young men, across
the selected high school in Bermuda.

The Alpha Beautillion is a program designed to promote leadership, educational value and community
service in our young men. The program has awarded in excess of $240,000 in educational scholarships and
mentored over 87 outstanding young men since 2002. The Beautillion Program, now in its 21st year, attracts
highly motivated and independent high school seniors and juniors who are selected by their school faculty to
represent his school over the course of seven months. The program culminates in a stage show presentation
during July 2022 that will showcase the students’ creativity, talents, and oratorical abilities. All the young
men receive scholarship bursaries ranging from $1,500 to $7,000 and an all expenses paid trip to a
Leadership Development Institute in New York where they will meet other college-bound young men. LDI
was canceled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Math Attack
Our “Math Attack” tutoring program is designed to help young men to learn exciting ways to excel at mental
math. Participants are challenged to calculate math problems without a pen, paper, calculator, or any other
media. In addition, the students are taught numerical translations in French, German and Japanese. At the end
of the year the students compete for various prizes that have extended to all expense paid trips to the NASA
Space Camp in Alabama, laptops, cell phones, and cash prizes. Currently, Math Attack meets once a week at
Impact Mentoring Academy (having previously operated at Sandy’s Middle School, T.N. Tatem Middle
School, and Dellwood Middle School) with the view to becoming more readily available across the island.
There are plans to revive and reformat this program.

Big Brothers / Big Sisters

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence,
while providing service and advocacy for our communities.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity – Eastern Region 5

ETL members serve as mentors to the unmatched little brothers on a group and individual basis and also lead
out in fundraising initiatives for the charity. We were unable to run our community service this year. In past
years, members of ETL have assisted in making Bermuda kites for the unmatched little brothers and sisters –
a tradition for the Easter holidays.
Leadership Breakfast

ETL would have operated its eleventh annual leadership breakfast in March 2022. This breakfast is tailored
to male seniors at each high school. Fraternity members and industry leaders attend this two-hour breakfast
session held at St. Paul’s AME Church to network with these young men and encourage them through
sharing their keys to success. On this occasion, over 70 high school seniors attend to meet with Brothers and
industry professionals. This event will not be held this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Project Alpha:
We did not run any Project Alpha events this year. On 25 March 2019 ETL members attended a local
academy and spoke to the encouraging teens to take a responsible attitude towards teenage pregnancy. Over
the previous 11 years, the program has reached thousands of students through presentations at our middle
and high schools.

Chapter History:
Rho Chi Lambda just celebrated our 12th year Anniversary on the 24th of July 2021 with 42 Brothers on
the roster and we are in the process of reclaiming Brothers who have taken a sabbatical from the
Chapter. We are financially sound and with all the best intentions and safety first, we are hoping to host
IMDP in Spring 2022. We are especially excited about hosting IMDP because it has been a year almost
2 years, we have not held it. We only have one candidate, but in the fall, we will have another two.

Chapter Operation:
Our Chapter meetings continue to be detailed, and we hold all brothers accountable for each task
assigned with Chapter reports, sharing of new information and doing so by the usage of our zoom
account. The Chapter is healthy and going from strength to strength and as we draw to the end of
another year, we give thanks for those of us who are here to celebrate an incredibly challenging year.

Pen Pal Program:
We are currently looking at a new school to kick off our (Inter)National Program in London, we have
entered a formal partnership with the Rho Sigma Lambda Chapter (http://rhosigmalambdaalphas.org/) in
South Metropolitan Atlanta to conduct a Pen Pal program with a local Georgia high school and a
London high school class. The goal is to widen the horizon of these students, many who have not
traveled outside of their countries, and to encourage them to stay in high school and to go on to college.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence,
while providing service and advocacy for our communities.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity – Eastern Region 6

The methods and procedures for this program have been developed and, we will begin implementation
in Fall 2022 using Zoom.

Croydon Supplementary Educational Programme (CSEP):
This is our major GTHSGTC Programme. CSEP continues to support the Black and Ethnic Minority
(BME) communities in Croydon by offering a range of services and community-based learning
initiatives that can help to develop their skills and unlock their full potential. Just this year March 2022
(CSEP) have been able to start the radio station, by going through a pilot facility. The radio station will
bring in much needed revenue and begin to open what going on in the local communities.

March of Dimes:
While the March of Dimes is not active in the United Kingdom, we partnered with our brother Chapter,
Rho Sigma Lambda in South Metropolitan Atlanta, to raise March of Dimes: $17,00.00 in 2018. Our
RCL Chapter Vice President raised almost $1,700 of this amount. Currently, we are about to get
something off the ground so we will keep everyone posted.

Boy Scouts of America:
Whilst the United Kingdom have their own version of the Boy Scouts, our Chapter brother, Abraham
Walker, is the Tiger Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 404. It falls under the Transatlantic Council of the
Boy Scouts of America, which meets on RAF Base (Royal Air Force) in Thetford, Norfolk, England. In
addition, RCL provides monetary support. The United Kingdom is ranked the ninth in the world’s list of
countries with the highest number of scouts. The number of scouts in the UK is 323,884. Since the
nation is well off, the country supports the scout’s organization with participants of both genders. The
Scouts Association in the UK was founded in 1907 and joined the World Scout Organization of the
Scout Movement in 1922. This is an ongoing development and will keep the community posted.

Beta Psi Update:
Bro. Ali/Sewell ongoing discussion in upcoming chapter retreat and meetings on the ground with other
universities. A meeting with Bro. Jade Bouhmouch in coming months to discuss a way forward and
other Brothers who were the original charter members for Beta Psi. Additionally, Bro. Sewell is looking
to write to local Universities and make presentations to see if there are any interested students that
would like to become members and sign an MOU with Beta Psi, as the seat is situated at the AIU.

National Programme:
All national programmes will be done over the next year and recorded accordingly.

Noted Highlights:
We began our London Bridge, a news bulletin about what we are doing in the chapter on a quarterly
basis. We are just about to release our 3rd or 4th one with current and past events.

The chapter participated in local college fairs. Each respective military community offers a college fair to
encourage attendance and issue scholarships. Each cluster representing Grafenwöhr, Stuttgart, Kaiserslautern,
and Wiesbaden reserved a table for Alpha Phi Alpha to amplify the significance of college and discuss our
scholarship with students, parents, and educators.

Additionally, the chapter participated in a local community event in Grafenwöhr, Germany. The event celebrated
community achievements and offered entertainment and games for kids and adults. Chapter members from
Theta Theta Lambda supported the annual community black history month recognition ceremonies in multiple
military communities of Stuttgart and Wiesbaden by hosting essay contests and coordinating community
recognition ceremonies.

The chapter continues to support the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Germany and the individual
Greek-lettered organizations through fellowship, meetings, and financial support. Bi-monthly meetings are
attended by the chapter president and vice president, Bro. Pierre Y. Boynton, and Bro. Dr. Marlon Atherton.

The chapter continues to validate the symbiotic relationship with Rho Chi Lambda and the cluster of Brothers in
Italy in an ongoing partnership.

COVID Pandemic

IMPACT ON FAMILIES & LOVED ONES

The adverse impact of COVID-19 and the social distances rule has made it difficult to impossible for
brothers and loved ones to support family members who contracted and/or died from the virus. Since our last
District Secession during 2020, Brothers and their families have had the opportunity to receive the COVID-
19 vaccinations as a means of trying to get back to some sense of normalcy both at home and in terms of
their working environment.

COVID-19 IMPACT ON TTL AND EU BGLO

Due to Host Nation and US military restrictions all Private Organization’s (PO) events were canceled until
further notice. As of now, TTL plans to host the annual Black and Gold Ball and Founder’s Day events during
2021. Funding raising events, as well as other social events, will be planned and attended on a case-by-case
basis pending host nation guidance.

Notable Highlights
TTL awarded five (4) scholarships to deserving DoDEA High School students TTL continues to partner with
the VFW in Grafenwoehr to award scholarships TTL partnered with the other Divine 9 BLGOs to charter the

National Pan Hellenic.

effort will increase as TTL will ensure that representation is sustained on every US Military Garrison within the
German footprint.

Got-To-High School / Go-To-College
TTL's partnership with the military community and the Department of Defense of Education Activity (DoDEA)
provides limited opportunities to schedule programs within the community as well as the schools. However,
TTL and the other BLGOs participated in the annual college fairs throughout Germany.

Additionally, our very own District Director Bro. Dr. Steven Carter established the Reading Exhibition
Program over 15 years ago in partnership with the local school in Stuttgart.

Project Alpha
Currently, TTL does not partner with local German schools to implement Project Alpha amongst High
School Teenagers. The birth rate among teenagers is 6.4 in 1,000 women and the birth rate for mothers aged 19
and over has been the highest, reaching 16.9 per 1,000 women.

There is no data available for teenage birth rates among the Department of Defense Education Activity
(DoDEA). Additionally, DoDEA allows very few outside programs to be implemented on school grounds that
they will sanction. Nonetheless, COVID now allows for more virtual opportunities which could be socialized
through the school's counselors.

Boy Scouts of America
Due to COVID the military has restricted private organizations from facilitating programs that will benefit
the local community. Equally, Host Nation's rules also restrict social programs as well as businesses.

Notable Highlights
On Jan. 4, 2022, TAL Chapter held its installation ceremony and “outdooring” mixer

On Feb. 2, 2022, Bro. Dr. Nduom (pronounced N-dome) introduced President Biden at the White House’s
Cancer Moonshot event; a few days later, CNN invited Bro. Nduom on their news program.

In Feb. 2022, Bro. Dr. Isaac Yao Addae began his stateside book tour.

State of the Chapter since District Conference 2021
TAL Chapter exec members decided to begin TAL’s fraternal year from October 1, 2021, to September 30,
2022.

Then the exec committee agreed that chapter dues would distinguish brothers affiliated with/involved in the
chartering efforts from current TAL active brothers. Brothers that paid their $200 were then considered
active for the new fraternal year (Oct 2021-Sept 2022).

From among the 20 or so brothers that immediately paid up, the chapter held chapter nominations and then
elections for its chapter officers. On Nov 4, 2021, TAL elected its first set of chapter officers. They were:
1. President-Richard Adzei
2. Vice-President-Kweku Fleming
3. Recording Secretary-Mayo Johnson

4. Corresponding Secretary-Nana Kwame Wiafe-Ababio
5. Treasurer-Kofi Meroe (pronounced Meh-row)
6. Financial Secretary-Jonathan Boyd
7. Associate Editor to “The Sphinx”-Kobina Yankah (pronounced Kwa-beh-nah)
8. Historian-Curtis Lawrence, Jr.
9. Chaplain-Nicholas Mingle
10. Director of Educational Activities-Steven McDonnough
11. Dean of Membership-Jason Asirifi
12. Sergeant-at-Arms-Kobina Yankah
13. Parliamentarian-Ebow Vroom (pronounced Eh-bow)

TAL Chapter also had eight delegates attend the IAAC District Conference and they were:
1. Kofi Meroe
2. Mayo Johnson
3. Curtis Lawrence, III
4. Dr. Edjah Nduom
5. Kwasi Yirenkyi (pronounced Yi-ren-chee)
6. Kweku Fleming
7. Dr. Dominick Bioh
8. Jason Asirifi

TAL Chapter also drafted and approved its chapter constitution, by-laws, and directory.

On Friday, December 17th, 2022, TAL brothers met up in Accra for happy hour and to plan the upcoming
chapter installation and “outdooring” events.

On Tuesday, January 2nd, 2022, TAL brothers in Ghana held a brotherhood dinner and smoke in Accra,
which was momentous as it helped to cement the chapter’s presence in Ghana.

On Tuesday, January 4th, 2022, our Area Director from Liberia, Bro. T. Nelson Williams, and Bro.
Nathaniel Kevin graciously flew to Accra, Ghana to perform the auspicious installation ceremony for our
chapter at the W.E.B. DuBois Center. This was unique as it was a hybrid ceremony with some brothers
physically located in Ghana and others located elsewhere but virtually attended.

Immediately following the chapter installation ceremony, TAL held its “outdooring” mixer at the Coconut
Grove Regency Hotel in North Ridge, Accra, Ghana, which is owned by Bro. Nduom’s family. Despite this
event being the chapter’s very first public function, this event was a monumental success. It was well
planned, well attended, and safe. In fact, due to the rampant spread of the Omicron variant, the chapter voted
on whether on-site COVID-19 testing should be required and paid for by the chapter. Fortunately, the chapter
voted for both; and all guests that attended were grateful for the chapter’s commitment to hosting a
responsible and fun “outdooring” event. There were roughly 30 people in attendance ranging from local and
visiting D9 members to the public. We also had Brothers zoom in from all over the world. As a result of our
public health efforts, there were positive COVID-19 cases stopped at the door. The overall class of our
“outdooring” mixer not only was heightened with our sponsored on-site COVID tests, but also the virtual
presence of chapter and other brothers. Both events on this day were joyous.

Since January 2022, the chapter has consistently held monthly meetings at the agreed upon time, which is the
fourth Sunday of every month @ 6pm GMT.

The chapter’s current size is now 25. What’s most notable, however, is how the chapter’s Ghana footprint
has grown. While there was merely one brother living full-time in Ghana at the time of our chartering, we are

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence,
while providing service and advocacy for our communities.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity – Eastern Region 11

proud to say there are now 5 brothers living full-time in Ghana. Furthermore, another 12 brothers have
Ghana residences and/or investments, which regularly brings them to Ghana.

In January 2022, the chapter received its Chapter seal.

At the January chapter meeting, the Chapter President established a community service committee,
communications committee, social committee, and finance committee. Each committee has their respective
scope of work and priorities for this fraternal year. Outputs from each committee’s efforts will be shared at
the March chapter meeting.

National Program Achievement
On Feb 14th, 2022, Brothers Jonathan Boyd (JB), Craig Nelson, and Steven McDonnough participated in the
Ghana D9 “NPHC” Panel on Building Your Brand and Career Tips” at Academic City University College in
Accra. The Brothers spoke to a room of about 100 undergrad students on collegiate success, career tips, and
Greek life. This event was TAL’s first “Go to High School-Go to College” program.

Tau Alpha Lambda has formed its Community Service Committee led by the Dir. of Educational Activities.
The committee is preparing for its next event in March 2022.

Finance Report
The Chapter’s financial position is strong as it has collected chapter dues for the Oct 2021-Sept 2022
fraternal year. The chapter’s grand tax, installation ceremony, and “outdooring” mixer have been the only
expenses incurred thus far.

Chartering Committee Campaign Efforts:
Alpha men have been in and out of Italy since World War II. Attempts to corral the military and
business brothers of Alpha stationed in Italy have not reached fruition for lack of vision. The Alpha
Italy Chartering process began on July 10, 2020, under the guidance of the IAAC Fraternal Standards
Committee leads, Bros. Dr. John H. Carter and Robert L. Farmer, III. Chartering members Bros.
Vaughan Byrum, Garnard Burnside III, and Marreo Burch initiated the process of establishing
petitioning members, a petitioning packet and raising funds. In a matter of a few months, the Alpha
Italy Chartering Committee raised over $6,500.00 and grew to 28 members. The petitioning packet
was submitted to the IAAC Fraternal Standards Committee in March 2021.

State of the Chapter:
The Alpha Italy Chartering Committee continues leaning forward to gain approval for the
establishment of a chapter seated in Rome, Italy. The Committee conducts monthly, Executive
Committee and General Chapter meetings via Zoom. In February 2021, the Constitution and Bylaws
and all internal committees were finalized. Shortly thereafter, private social media platforms
on Facebook and Instagram were created, chapter officer development training occurred,
followed by several social “meet & greet” venues and summer retreat, followed by a formal
Founders Day Celebration and rededication smoker.

Community Impact:
Committee members remain active in local and international chapters, supporting Alpha’s
national programs and supporting their respective communities. Chartering members actively
supported voting campaigns, mentorship, and community wellness events like back to school

backpack give away and the “Go to High School, Go to College” College Fair in Italy. Committee
founders actively participated and attended the District and Regional Conventions in 2020, 2021
and 2022 and attended the General Convention in 2021.

International Involvement:
Alpha Italy conducted several events to raise awareness of the Committee’s initiative to establish
a chapter in Italy over the past year to include meeting the Alpha’s events and seeking interested
men to participate in IMDP with IAAC. The Chartering Committee’s efforts led to active
participation in the IAAC informational seminar in February 2022. Interested individuals were not
able to continue in the process due to the current heightened military situation in Europe.

Closing
The Brothers of Alpha Italy remain committed to the effort and establishment of a chapter seated
in Rome, IT. The Chartering Committee meets all requirements for the Petitioning Packet and
anxiously awaits the opportunity to present our packet to the General Organization Fraternal
Standards Committee for endorsement and approval.

ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR NEXT TERM

The districts focus in the next term is threefold: (1) focus on growing and nurturing the provisional chapters

ISSUES

• Membership
o ONECA continues to face challenges due to low membership numbers in our college
chapters. We currently have one inactive chapter, Mu Phi (University of Bridgeport).

• City Wide Charters
o Universities are pushing back on city-wide charters. We have an expired MOU with
Quinnipiac University (Zeta Chapter) and an upcoming deadline with Johnson & Wales
University (Alpha Gamma Chapter)

• Racial Instances On Campuses
o Racist emails were sent to the members of various Black student organizations on the
campus of UMass – Amherst.

• Chapter Centric Mindset
o While we were able to maintain our brotherly bonds during Covid, our inter-chapter
engagement and synergy suffered. Brothers became very insular and chapter centric in their
fraternal mindsets and have subsequently become less supportive of neighboring chapters.

RECOMMENDATIONS

• Membership
o ONECA leadership will re-engage the University of Bridgeport to formulate an action
plan with the goal of holding a Fall Informational. Other universities such as Sacred
Heart University, Fairfield University and Western Connecticut State University must be
engaged in order to maintain sufficient membership.

• City-Wide Charters
o The Eastern Region and ONECA will continue to find ways to work with our university
partners towards our shared goals of increased membership on their campuses. While we
live in a litigious world, we believe that there is common ground that will allow us to
continue to have city-wide chapters. Creating new chapters that simply do not have the
numbers to survive is not an option.

• Racial Incident
o Alpha Kappa Chapter President Isaac Yeboah Jr and General President Bro. Dr. Willis L.
Lonzer Jr penned a poignant letter to the administration of the University of
Massachusetts – Amherst. The school hired the Stroz Friedberg Digital Forensics of New
York to track the origins of the racist emails. As of December, they still hadn’t been able
to uncover the origins nor the senders of the emails.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence,
while providing service and advocacy for our communities.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity – Eastern Region 9

ACTION ITEMS

• Formation of ONECA 501c3
o ONECA has launched an exploratory committee and plans to launch a 501c3 in early
2023.
o The kick-off event for the newly formed 501c3 will be ONECA’s First Annual Golf
Tournament (Spring 2023).

• Retention
o ONECA faces the same retention issues as the rest of the fraternity as well as low
membership numbers on our college campuses. We plan to launch a pilot program that
may assist with both issues by re-engaging brothers who have young sons. We’re hoping

to leverage retention to drive more legacy. More to follow.

• IMDP
o Zeta Chapter, Alpha Kappa Chapter, Kappa Delta Chapter, Sigma Chapter, Epsilon

Gamma Lambda Chapter, Beta Signa Lambda Chapter and Eta Alpha Lambda Chapter
all plan to have Fall 2022 intake.

• Statewide Founders Day Celebration
o In an effort to foster inter-chapter collaboration and fellowship, we’re planning our first

ever Connecticut state-wide Founders Day Celebration hosted by the Beta Sigma
Lambda, Eta Alpha Lambda and Zeta Phi Lambda chapters.
