The Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education (hereinafter referred to as APTE or the Programme) is a bilateral teacher exchange programme between the Republic of Korea and implemented by the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (hereinafter referred to as APCEIU) under the auspices of UNESCO, in cooperation with the education ministries of the partner countries. APTE was first implemented in 2012 with two partner countries – Mongolia and the Philippines – and now it is proceeded with seven partner countries in the Asia-Pacific region (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, and Thailand) (online exchange guidelines, 2023:4). The APTE is a programme for global educational exchange where teachers from participating countries are dispatched to host schools of the partner countries to engage in teaching and educational activities for three to five months. In 2021, the Programme promoted non-face-toface educational exchange through online educational activities. Teachers participating in face-to-face educational exchange teach the subjects they have majored in, their native language, and intercultural understanding as a member of host schools of the partner countries, and interact with local students and teachers by taking part in various school and community activities. Nonface- to-face educational exchange, on the other hand, focuses on ‘online school-to-school exchange’ where schools in Korea and the partner countries coordinate through online exchange study groups. ABOUT APTE 8

Teachers carry out realtime online classes, use recorded lesson materials, and participate in study group projects. These go beyond a simple physical exchange (online exchange guidelines, 2023:4). The goal of face-to-face and non-face-to-face educational exchange is to improve the global education competency of teachers and students of participating schools, increase understanding and cooperation between participating countries, share experiences of educational activities in general, and contribute to enhancing the quality of teaching skills. At the domestic level, the Programme contributes to strengthening multi-cultural education, global citizenship education, and global competency. Meanwhile, Korea, as a donor country since its accession to OECD DAC in 2009, has increased responsibility and expectation from the international community. Hence, at the international level, the Programme provides a mutually beneficial educational exchange model to contribute to the educational development of the partner countries. Considering all member states of the UN agreed to individually and collectively meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Education 2030 in 2015, the programme is expected to contribute specifically to promoting Global Citizenship Education and strengthen teaching capacity through international cooperation (online exchange guidelines, 2023:4). ABOUT APTE9

Hello, my name is Desy Merisa Susanti. Students call me Bu Desy or Ms. Desy. I came to SDN 196 Sukarasa on May 2015, so this is my 8th year teaching here. I am teaching at 6th grade now. Beside a homeroom teacher, I also teach in one of SDN 196 Sukarasa’s extrakulikuler which is English Club. I feel so excited when I heard that me and me team have been selected for APTE online this year. It makes my memories back when I was teaching Korea’s students (Daeso Elementary School) in 2017. My longing for Korea has finally been cured. I would like to say thank you very much to Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MOECRT) of Indonesia also to APCEIU (Asia Pasific Centre of Education for International Understanding). I am so happy that we get this opportunity. I was able to get to know, communicate, and collaboration with Korean teachers and students, also exchange information about the culture of each our country. Of course, we also work together to provide learning that is able to achieve sustainable development goals as global citizenship, one of which is efforts to save the earth amidst the ongoing environmental issues. Once again, I would like to thank all parties involved, especially APCEIU, the Indonesian's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MOECRT) and of course our partner school Bongsam Elementary School. I hope we can meet again on another occasion. Thank you. Teachers 11

First, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to participate in this program. This is the first overseas teacher exchange activity that I have participated in. I have gained a lot of experience, even though I were hesitant at first, but my team strengthened each other because we definitely gained a lot of knowledge in this activity. First starting from introducing each other, then getting to know Korean schools, meeting Korean teachers, designing extraordinary lessons for each other, exchanging information about each other's culture, meeting Korean students, and learning together to save the earth. This is an experience that will always be remembered. Thank You So Much Ms. Suci Dwilestari, S.Pd. (Teacher) Teachers 12

T e a c h e r s Lee Seo Kyung Park Soon Hwa Having SDN 196 Sukarasa as the partner school of KITEP was a great honor. Through your efforts towards this program, our students were able to learn about Indonesia in a very meaningful way. I hope the program was a great opportunity to the students in Indonesia as well. I will be looking forward to seeing you again. Thank you so much. I was able to learn a lot about Indonesia through this program and was impressed by the fact that Internet in both countries have developed enough to do a joint class live in real time. 14

T e a c h e r s Minyeong Kim Heesun It was a very meaningful time. It was good to see the students enjoying themselves and being happy. Thank you. I think my students and I had precious international educational experiences in this project. At first I and my students were not familiar with learning and sharing cultures through ON-LINE. However, while joining the classes, we were excited to see and enjoy Indonesian cultures and we felt warm friendship with SND 196 Sukarasa's teachers and students. We were really appreciated by your dedication on this project. Especially, your video clips were very interesting and helpful to understand Indonesian cultures and your students. Hopefully, we can have opportunity to meet again. 15

SDN 196 SUKARASA Profile SDN Sukarasa was established on July 07 1967. At the beginning of its establishment, there were three elementary schools in SDN Sukarasa. but now it has merged into one school, namely SDN 196 Sukarasa. Our school is located in Bandung City, West Java Province, Indonesia. SDN 196 Sukarasa is one of the biggest public elementary school in Bandung. We have 618 students. To serve a large number of students and provide fun and meaningful learning, we have thirty-five educators and education staff. SDN 196 Sukarasa is located in the northern part of Bandung, close to Mount Tangkuban Parahu. Therefore, our school has fresh and cool air. Event our school is not as big as Bongsam Elementary School, we have school forest, classes garden, 17 classrooms, library, health care unit, hall, 2 school yards, and mosque. We ’ll be waiting for your coming Bongsam. th 16

SDN 196 Sukarasa is a “Sekolah Penggerak” which implemeted emancipated curriculum. In this curriculum, beside learning activities, there is a project to strengthen the profile of Pancasila students (P5). Based on school environmental conditions and global issues (climate change), the focus of our project is to instill the character of loving the environment in students. Students at SDN 196 Sukarasa have many non-academic interests, talents/ potentials. To develop these talents, our school has thirteen extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities are carried out after learning hours. So that every day, from morning to evening SDN 196 Sukarasa has lots of activities. All of these extracurricular have already got in many achievements at school, city, province, or national level. Our students teached how to manage organic and non-organic waste at school. The product is not the main goal, but changes in the student's character does. However, our school produces organic fertilizer (compost, eco enzyme), hydroponic vegetables, organic vegetables, and ecobricks from P5 activities. To improve the quality of schools, we carry out international cooperation. At ASEAN level with SEAMEO Qitep in Science (SEAQIS), with Avans Hogeschool-Netherlands, Yamaha-Japan, USAID, BridgeAustralia, now with APCEIU UNESCO and MOE of Korea also MOECRT of Indonesia. We hope that the collaboration with Bongsam Elementary School through the Indonesia Korea Teacher Exchange (IKTE) programme will continue in the future. SDN 196 SUKARASA Profile 17

Bonsam Elementary School was established in March 1st, 1996. Under the objective of teaching students to enjoy learning and cooperating with each other, thirteen teachers are working hard towards this goal. In the past, there were many students in Bonsam Elementary School. However, as the birth rate rapidly decreased in the area our school is located, we now only have 51 students in total, which is a very small number compare to SDN 196 Sukarasa. BONGSAM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Profile There could be some difficulties having such a small number of students, but students say there are more advantages than the disadvantages. For example, students from 1st to 6th grade are all connected like brothers and sisters. We also have many activites and school events that schools with big number of students cannot have, like summer camp, busking, and so on. Our school is located near a beautiful ocean, so it shows a wonderful scenery. Hope you come and visit our school We will be waiting for you! 18

Welcome to West Java Welcome to West Java

In 2022, Indonesia will be recorded as having 17.001 islands spread across 38 provinces. West Java is one of the provinces in Indonesia. There are 18 districts and 9 cities spread across West Java. Bandung is the capital city of West Java. Indonesia is known for cultural diversity, including its natural beauty that becomes tourist destination. Like West Java, when you come there you can learn about various cultures, such as musical instruments and traditional dances. In West Java, you can also visit tourist destination which are famous for their natural beauty and fresh air. 1. Traditional Games from West Java Culture is a characteristic of a country. Every country in the world has its own cultural diversity that forms its identity. One of them is a traditional game. Traditional games are the culture that created by people using language or characters from a particular region. So, by studying traditional games we can know the cultural values of the region where the game originates. The one who starts can choose the hole to take and puts 1 into the hole to his right and so on. When it ends in a small hole containing other seeds, it can take the seeds and continue filling the next holes. If the seeds run out in his big hole then she will be able to continue by choosing the small hole next to it. In the join class we learned about introducing the Indonesian culture (focus on traditional games from West Java). The existence of traditional games began erased along with the changing of the era. This causing many children and youth, as the main actors in preservation of national culture, even don’t know about this treasure heritage. Based on that concern we try to make a learning activity to introduce various kinds of traditional games from West Java, an easy game to play when practicing it in join class. Traditional games from West Java such as congkak, sondah, perepet jengkol, and orayorayan. Wulandari (2012:128) explain that congklak is included in the 7th oldest games in the world. Congklak is a game that has been exist for a long time and has changed over time. Congklak is played by 2 people with congklak board that has 16 holes. Each side of congklak board has 7 holes and 2 larger holes at the ends. A. Congklak To play congklak you need 98 seeds or shells. First each hole is filled with 7 seeds. The last hole of congklak is left empty to accommodate the seeds when the game is played. 21

Dwijantie (2017)) said that sondah is one of the traditional games originating from West Java. The game focuses on physical activities. Sondah is a simple game. You need a track made of chalk or carpets and a stone, don't forget to ask your friends to join. B. Sondah Once you're ready with the track you have to throw the stone to the first square in front of you (the square in the game is written numbers) and start by jumping using one foot on the second square and then go back. After that, throw the stone to another square. But don't forget, if you throw it outside the square you're disqualified ang have to start the game from begining. You must try this game with your friends. The perepet jengkol game requires the cooperation of several people. At the beginning of the games, years ago, this game played when the harvest season. It gives the children joy when they accompany their parents at the village in welcoming the rice harvest season. Sunaryo, at all (2020:11) explain that perepet jengkol has a song when we play it. That song sing by the children who’s playing the game. C. Perepet Jengkol When it runs out of the small hole on the side, it stops and takes all the seeds on the opposite side. But if it stops at an empty hole on the opponent's side then she stops and gets nothing. The game ends when there are no more seeds that can be taken (all the seeds are in the two players' big holes). The winner is the one who gets the most seeds. (Wulandari, 2012:128) 22

The attraction of this game is also in its funny dialogue. The line will move around the gate while singing the following song: Oray-orayan luar leor ka sawah Entong ka sawah pare na keur sedeng beukah Oray-orayan luar leor ka kebon Entong ka kebon di kebon loba nu ngangon Mending ka leuwi Di leuwi loba nu mandi Saha anu mandi Anu mandi na pandeuri D. Oray-Orayan Wulandari (2012:140) explain that dragon snake or oray-orayan is included in the 7th most popular team games in Indonesia. This team or group game is rarely played. Oray-orayan is a group game where they line up backwards while holding the waist or shoulder of the child in front of them. One of them must be the head of snake and be at the front. The other group must choose the one that acts as the gate or “hong” (in sundanese). The head of snake and gate must be children who are good at talking because this game has dialogue. By holding their hands with their backs to each other, their right leg’s is raised to the calf and woven until it is strong. Each hand release then jumps around to the left, by clapping while singing the following song: Perepet jengkol Jajahean Kadempet kohkol Jejeretean 23

When the last breaks through the "gate", the line says "fill-fill-fill" over and over again, until the end of the line and the last child in the snake's tail is caught (the "gate" closes and encircles the last child with their hands still linked). The head of snake with all the members lined up behind him, must carry out a dialogue to free the caught member. This dialogue will be exciting until the caught member is asked to choose and be placed at one of the gates and the game starts again. (Wulandari, 2012:140) The goals of these games are: We can introduce traditional games from West Java such as congkak, sondah, perepet jengkol, and oray-orayan games to Korean students; 1. 2.Play together during class; Teaches about differences or similarity cultures and how to respect them, and 3. 4.Be a part of global citizenship. Then, while breaking through the "gate", the line says "emptyempty-empty" many times until the entire column has passed, and begins again to spread and sing the above song. This happens two or three times. 24

Batik is often involved with a method starting from the depiction of patterns to the pelorodan process or the process of releasing wax from batik cloth. According to Trixie (2020), the origins of the birth of batik in Indonesia are related to the development of the kingdoms of Majapahit, Solo, and Yogyakarta. At first, this batik was only used within the scope of palace life. However, as time goes by and the rapid globalization of the fashion sector, now batik can be used by anyone. The motifs and colors on batik are increasingly diverse, the function of batik is not only limited to clothing but can also be accessories and room decoration so that the creativity of batik craftsmen also continues to increase. 2. Batik and Eco Print Batik is a culture that has always been developing and close to the people of Indonesia. International recognition has been given to batik since 2009 by UNESCO (PBB) as a cultural object of no human heritage. October 2 is the date designated as National Batik Day, with this cultural icon is expected to always be preserved and interpreted especially by the Indonesian nation. (Trixie, 2020). Mega mendung batik, accessed from https://shorturl.at/bpsY7 26

Seeing these conditions, there are quite a few cases that discuss or raise discourse regarding environmental pollution due to industrial waste produced from the batik making process, whether it comes from the wax (wax) used or batik dye. An alternative that can be done to reduce liquid waste from synthetic dyes is to switch to using natural dyes that come from plants. One technique that can be used to color textiles is the eco print technique. Eco print is a printing technique using natural fabric coloring that is quite simple but can produce unique and authentic motifs. The principle of eco printing is through direct contact between leaves, flowers, stems or other body parts that contain color pigments and certain fabric media (Faridatun, 2022). Because the demands of batik consumers are starting to grow rapidly, this is also affecting the number of industries and production activities which are becoming increasingly intense. According to Fitria and Yustisya (2021), craftsmen from the batik industry strives to fulfill consumer demand by increasing batik production activities and using synthetic dyes (made from chemicals) so that the resulting colors are more durable/do not fade easily. Waste remaining from the dyeing process contains dangerous chemicals which are generally disposed of directly into the environment, causing environmental pollution. The case of environmental pollution due to batik industry waste is also a form of response from the community living around the batik industry and as a reflection or evaluation material for batik industry drivers and the government to overcome this problem. One of the efforts made by government agencies towards industrial houses is to create environmentally friendly products (Fitria and Yustisya, 2021). 27

The advantage of eco print is environmentally friendly. Of course, this is an advantage, just in terms, eco print is very related to the environment itself. From this understanding, eco print can create environmentally friendly products. This is so that the environment can be well maintained and does not cause pollution that harms people's health. The use of eco print techniques could be a consideration for textile manufacturing companies, which do not just produce a product. However, it also produces dangerous waste. From the first advantage explained above, the eco print technique is a solution for textile companies and for fashion businesses. For textile companies, using this technique will reduce environmental production. Meanwhile, for fashion businesses, using eco print can provide unique and attractive motifs. Because this is also related to the use of leaves, twigs and flowers (Hikmah and Retnasari, 2020). In eco print, there are two coloring techniques, namely the iron blanket technique and the pounding technique. In the iron blanket technique, the first step is to prepare dye from natural ingredients by soaking the leaves in a vinegar solution. This aims to maximize the coloring of the leaves. Then, once the dye is ready, spread out the cleaned cloth and attach the leaves that have been soaked in the vinegar solution. Then, roll it up with a paralon pipe and tie it with rope. The final stage, namely steaming the cloth that has been tied for 2 hours (Saraswati, 2019). Eco print pounding technique, accessed from https://shorturl.at/ptx45 28

Totebag ecoprint by Korean students In the pounding technique, the process and method of dyeing the fabric is slightly different from the iron blanket technique. The difference lies in the last two stages. The first difference is that in the iron blanket technique, you roll the cloth using paralon to release the color of the leaves on the cloth, while in the pounding technique you hit the leaves on the cloth using a wooden hammer. The second difference is that in the iron blanket technique, drying is done by steaming the fabric for 2 hours, whereas in the pounding technique the drying process is done by drying the fabric directly in the sun (Saraswati, 2019).. 3. Tourist Destinations West Java has many tourist destinations that you can visit, such as Tangkuban Parahu Mountain, Saung Angklung Udjo, Kawah Putih and Situ Patenggang. Besides offering enchanting natural views, West Java tourism can give you a break from daily activities that make you tired. Tourist destination in West Java also have unique stories behind them based on local legends or history that you can know and learn. A. Saung Angklung Udjo Angklung Performance by Saung Angklung Udjo Saung Angklung Udjo is a tourist destination located in the center of Bandung. It is located on Jalan Padasuka. Saung Angklung Udjo was founded by Udjo Ngalagena and his wife Uum Sumiati in 1966. Susanti and Sjuchro (2019) explained that the foundation of Saung Angklung Udjo was motivated by Udjo and his wife who are artists and educators who really love children, traditional art, flora and fauna, the universe, and their livestock. He wants to unite all of it into harmony. On that basis, Udjo and his wife founded Saung Angklung Udjo with the slogan “Nature and Culture in Harmony”. The name Saung given is a characteristic of Sundanese traditional houses which describes the simplicity of the people. 30 Source: https://wisatasekolah.com/saung-angklung-udjo/

During his journey of more than 50 years, Saung Angklung Udjo played a role in introducing and promoting angklung, until on November 15th, 2010 UNESCO named angklung to the list of intangible cultural heritage from Indonesia. Besides a cultural tourism destination, Saung Angklung Udjo is now a one-stop cultural workshop that presents Sundanese cultural performances, including angklung music performances, Sundanese dance, bamboo instrument workshops, and a bamboo craft center shop. One of the spectacular performances that Saung Angklung Udjo often presents is the Bambu Petang performance, which contains several performances such as wayang golek, helaran ceremonies, traditional dance arts, beginner angklung, orchestra angklung, mass angklung and arumba. At the end of the show, the audience will be invited to dance with the children. B. Tangkuban Parahu Mountain View of Tangkuban Parahu Mountain Mount Tangkuban Parahu is located in the Cikole area, Lembang, West Java Province. The mountain with a height of around 2,048 meters above sea level is one of the most famous tourist destinations in West Java. Mount Tangkuban Parahu has its own attraction for tourists, besides that the mountain is one of the volcanoes that is still active with several craters that can be seen up close. The cool mountain air and its location not too far from the center of Bandung City, make Mount Tangkuban Parahu a tourist destination that is in great demand, both by local and foreign tourists. 31 Source: https://www.indonesia.travel/th/en/destinations/java/old-bandung/tangkuban-perahu

The name Mount Tangkuban Parahu comes from Sundanese which describes the shape of the mountain like an upside-down boat. Because when viewed from a distance, the mountain looks like a large boat in an upside-down position. Munandar and Indira (2021) explained that the origin of Mount Tangkuban Parahu is told in a Sangkuriang legend. The story tells of the forbidden love between Sangkuriang and Dayang Sumbi as mother and daughter. It is said that Sangkuriang, who had been separated from his mother Dayang Sumbi for a long time, was amazed to see her beauty when he met her again. As the mother who gave birth to Sangkuriang, of course Dayang Sumbi could still recognize her child and of course refused Sangkuriang's proposal. However, the reason Dayang Sumbi could not be accepted by Sangkuriang was because he did not believe that Dayang Sumbi was his mother. Then, Dayang Sumbi gave Sangkuriang a condition that if he wanted to marry her, he wanted to make a lake complete with a boat in one night. Sangkuriang also accepted and complied with Dayang Sumbi's request because his love for her was so deep. Sangkuriang did it with the help of the genies. Because Dayang Sumbi did not want Sangkuriang to finish his work, she tried to thwart Sangkuriang's work by scattering the cloth she had woven in the east. With the help of the gods, the cloths emitted a reddish light and made the roosters wake up and crow as if morning had come. This made the genies who helped Sangkuriang run away and leave him with unfinished work. Sangkuriang was annoyed and very angry, then he destroyed the dam which almost formed a lake, and kicked the boat he made so hard that it fell upside down. After that, Daya Sumbi ran away and disappeared, Sangkuriang who was looking for him also disappeared without a trace. 32

C. Kawah Putih Kawah Putih is one of the interesting tourist destinations that can be visited in the South Bandung area, its location is in Rancabali sub-district, Ciwidey, Bandung district. Kawah Putih has the main attraction as a tourist destination, there is the beauty of the changing color of the lake. Kawah Putih is located at an altitude of 2.434 meters above sea level. Kawah Putih was formed from the eruption of Mount Patuha which caused the formation of a lakelike area, as a result of the eruption. The name Kawah Putih itself was taken because the soil around the area is white. Besides that, the color of the lake water in this area is greenish white, and can change to become slightly darker and lighter. Depends on changes in sulfur content, temperature and weather around Kawah Putih. 33

Around the beginning of the 10th century, Kawah Putih was a haunted place. Because at that time people saw many birds die while crossing the White Crater. During the Dutch colonial period, Kawah Putih was a sulfur factory until before this area became a tourist attraction. According to Monika, et.all (2018), the majority of tourists who visit Kawah Putih can enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings or just take photos. However, as a tourist destination, Kawah Putih has a function as educational tourism for tourists. Currently, Kawah Putih offers an educational tourism program to get to know and study the natural resources, flora and fauna around the area. 34

South Bandung is one of the areas in West Java which is famous for its beautiful and amazing natural tourism. One of the other tourist destinations in the South Bandung, Ranca Bali, Ciwidey area is Situ Patenggang. Situ Patenggang is a natural tourist destination with the beauty of its lake which has become iconic in this area. Behind its natural beauty, Situ Patenggang also has a legend that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists to visit. The name Situ Patenggang in Sundanese means looking for each other. The origin of Situ Patenggang is told in a legend about the love story of a husband and wife, namely Kian Santang and Dewi Rengganis. It is said that according to Maharani's (2023), at one time Kian Santang was given the task of crushing a rebellion that was threatening the Siliwangi kingdom. Sincerely and with a heavy heart, Dewi Rengganis accompanied her husband to the battlefield. Kian Santang and Dewi Rengganis also promised to be loyal to each other and maintain their relationship while Kian Santang competed on the battlefield. During her months of waiting, Dewi Rengganis received a magical whisper to do penance in a forest so she could meet her husband. Several months later, Kian Santang returned to his house but could not find Dewi Rengganis. D. Situ Patenggang 35

He also looked for her in a hermitage in the forest. When he got there, Kian Santang couldn't find his wife. Apparently Dewi Rengganis had returned home because she heard the news that her husband had returned from the battlefield. When she got home, Dewi Rengganis couldn't find her husband. Kian Santang and Dewi Rengganis were looking for each other, this story is the basis for the name Situ Patenggang or pateangan which means searching. After the two of them had been looking for each other for a long time, they both met on a large rock, which is now known as the Batu Cinta area. Dewi Rengganis and Kian Santang hugged each other to release their longing, until Dewi Rengganis burst into tears. Dewi Rengganis' tears flooded the place to form a beautiful lake. Lake in Sundanese is Situ. That's why, according to this legend, Situ Patenggang was formed from the happy and emotional cries of Dewi Rengganis when she reunited with her husband, Kian Santang. 36

4. Traditional Dances West Java illustrates that the people who inhabit this area are very creative in creating and creating works which are manifested in folk art (Wartika, et. all, 2019). Sundanese folk art is filled with local values, meaning and wisdom, reflecting gratitude towards God, the beauty of nature and the friendliness of the people. Sundanese folk art is packaged in various forms of dance, music, drama, traditional ceremonies, etc. Source: https://radarmukomuko.disway.id/read/666747/ West Java has variety of performing arts, one of them is traditional dance. Some of the traditional dance performances are inherited arts and traditions from generation to generation, there are also creativity dance works of West Java artists (Nurdin & Triyadi, 2018). One of the dance works that is popular among Sundanese people is the Jaipong dance. Jaipong dance is a traditional dance from the West Java region, which was first created by Gugum Gumbira in the 1980’s, and has become the identity of the Sundanese people. It is said to be the identity of the Sundanese people, because Jaipong describes the Sundanese people who are energetic, lively and dynamic. The Jaipong dance created by Gugum Gumbira is the result of creative efforts based on his understanding of the value of the local wisdom of Sundanese traditions and mixing it with the flavors of city/urban communities (Ramlan, 2013). d a n c e 37

Jaipong dance is one of the mainstays of West Java art, which is usually performed at various events, from traditional ceremonies to arts or entertainment performances. Nurdin & Triyadi (2018) stated that the characteristic movements in Jaipong dance are Geol, Gitek, and Goyang or known as 3G. Jaipong dance has also become an icon for promoting regional cultural riches, especially West Java, to the outside world. Merak dance was created in the 1950’s by a dance artist and choreographer from West Java named Raden Tjetje Soemantri. Merak dance by Tjetje Soemantri depicts the beautiful movements of peacocks which are then combined into a harmonious dance. This dance movement is inspired by and adapts the movements of male peacocks with the charm of their beautiful tail feathers when attracting female peacocks. Initially, the creation of the Peacock dance was intended to entertain delegates to the Asian-African Conference in 1955. Until now, the peacock dance is used as entertainment or to welcome guests at big events. Besides being a typical West Java cultural icon that is known internationally. Bandung City Culture and Tourism Office (2015) explain that in 2020, the Sundanese Merak dance received an award as one of Indonesia's intangible cultural heritage. d a n c e Source: https://spectradancestudio.files.wordpress.com/ 2012/09/tari-merak.jpg 38

Talking about West Java dance art never ends. Because West Java is a province that is famous for having many traditional dances. Another traditional dance from West Java which is often performed in various performances is the Kijang dance. The Kijang dance often amazes the audience because it has unique movements and make-up. This dance is performed dynamically and lively, because it tells the story of how the people of West Java hunt. Besides telling the story of the behavior of deer, this dance also tells the story of West Java hunting using gondewah or arrows and jamparing or bows. The history of the Kijang dance is full of meaning. Therefore, this dance is described as a form of unity and enthusiasm for survival. As time goes by, the Kijang dance is not only performed for certain traditional rituals. However, this dance is also usually performed at weddings, harvest events, commemorations of certain days, circumcisions, etc. In this way, the function of the Kijang dance is as a means of entertainment for the audience. d a n c e 39
