ROMINA LUPPINO STARACE

Romina Luppino Starace was born in Italy and
moved to the United States in 1967 with her
family when she was 1 year old. Proudly, she has
called the Borough of Fort Lee home for over 50
years, playing an active role in the community in
numerous ways.
Romina attended public school in Fort Lee,
graduating in 1984, then attended Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City,
where she majored in Business Management and graduated in 1988.
Early in her career, she worked in administration and customer
service roles in the fashion industry, but ultimately felt the pull to
join the family real estate development business.
In the Fall of 1995, she joined the family business, C. Luppino
Developers, a company responsible for developing and managing
numerous high-rise buildings and homes in Bergen County.
Romina had the honor and blessing to be mentored by her father,
Carmelo Luppino Sr. who played an essential role in developing
her business acumen, delivering to her an everyday masterclass in
entrepreneurialism, grit, and determination. Additionally, for over
27 years, she has been fortunate to work alongside a number of her
siblings every day, which is a true gift.
Over the past eight years Romina has been the President of
the Fort Lee Business District Alliance, and along with the other
Board Members of the BDA, has helped to revitalize the Fort Lee
Downtown Area. The BDA is responsible for many programs and
events that, over the past several years, have grown and have begun
to transform the district. The BDA is also responsible for improving
much of the StreetScape in its district. Romina is extremely proud of
the latest project which is bringing renowned international muralists
such as Dan Kitchener and Julien Malland (aka Seth Globepainter),
to Fort Lee to further enhance Fort Lee’s appeal.
Romina has been married to her husband Donald for over 34 years
and together have two wonderful children, Max and Jade. This Fall
she he will be welcoming her first grandchild, Lily Jean, into the
world and is looking forward to this exciting new chapter in her life.

The Chamber’s Role in the Region

MEMBERSHIP
The Fort Lee Regional Chamber of Commerce is one of the most active

chambers in Bergen County. We are in our 72nd year, so we have a long history in
the area yet are responsive to the times and the needs of our members. Our diverse
membership draws from 7 towns: Cliffside Park, Edgewater, Englewood Cliffs, Fort
Lee, Leonia, Palisades Park and Ridgefield. It includes major corporations, retail
and professional businesses and community leaders. Our leadership is rooted with
outstanding citizens and business leaders at the forefront of the community.
GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT

The Chamber’s mission is the advancement of civic, retail, commercial and
professional interests in our region, Bergen County and New Jersey. The Chamber
is non-partisan and non-sectarian and does not support or endorse candidates for
public office. However, the Chamber provides a forum for its members and focuses
on crucial issues such as parking and traffic, beautification, legislation, sensitivity
for persons with disabilities and others. The Chamber also works closely with
local officials and has invited local mayors to provide semi-annual updates to our
members in person at our luncheons and vis a vis our newsletters. We also represent
businesses via our membership in the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce.
DIGITAL PRESENCE

Digital space is currently growing at warp speed. We are increasingly involved
in the area of social media to engage with our expanding membership. In addition
to our Facebook business page, we are on Instagram and Twitter. We changed our
website platform to one that specializes in Chambers of Commerce and is much
more interactive with and supportive of our members’ needs. We also provide
our members with free monthly advertising in our Monthly E-Newsletter sent via
Constant Contact.
INFORMATION SOURCE

The Chamber provides business and community information and referrals to
people from all over the United States. We publish this Community Directory annually
as another means of dispersing valuable information about the community, to the
community. We also welcome new residents to the region and provide business
referrals upon request. We provide export companies with Certificates of Origin.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The Chamber is a strong supporter of many community events. This is our 54th
Annual Dinner Dance; part of a long tradition of honoring outstanding community
and business leaders as “Persons of the Year”. The Chamber has been the facilitator
of fund drives, 5K runs for various charities, collection of cell phones for the military,
collection of school supplies for children in need, and “Toys for Tots” run by the PBA
at the holidays. We participate in and help advertise local arts & music festivals and
the Fort Lee Paws in the Park. We have a close working relationship with the Fort
Lee BDA, local schools, libraries, veterans’ organizations, historic and cultural groups
and the Fort Lee Committee on Americans With Disabilities Act. The Chamber is
proud to partner with these groups to work towards the betterment of this region,
it’s residents and businesses.

Fort Lee School District

Fort Lee is an outstanding school district whose schools have been recognized for
excellence by the state and received numerous awards and commendations.

The awards and recognition are acknowledgements of the district’s comprehensive
academic program, including enrichment and remedial programs, and participation in
the Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs, as well as,
more than 50 elective courses at the high school. The elective program is supplemented
by on-line/virtual courses. Additionally, Fort Lee High School offers students the
opportunity to participate in three academy programs: Academy of Finance, Theatre Arts
Academy, and International Baccalaureate. Our K‑12 co‑curricular program supplements
the regular academic program with over 40 offerings, including drama, world language
honor societies, science clubs, and business clubs. The high school interscholastic athletic
program offers seventeen teams for its male and female students. These teams compete
at the highest levels winning state, division, and league championships.

In an effort to meet the needs of special education youngsters, we offer a variety of
programs with preschool handicapped classes, self-contained and collaborative classes,
and resource room. Students are provided services by basic skills teachers, therapists, full-
time nurses, reading specialists, English-as-a-second-language teachers, and a full array
of child study team and guidance staff members.

Each of the district’s programs is enhanced by various educational technologies. The
district provides classrooms with instructional technology for teacher and student use.
All of our school buildings are fully wireless environments. In our elementary schools, the
classrooms are equipped with SMART Boards and laptop carts. Our middle and high
school’s classrooms are equipped with projectors and interactive response technology.
All students in grades 7 – 12 have been provided with laptop computers for their use.
The district has an online student management system (Genesis) that includes a portal to
give parents open access to their children’s homework and grades. The district utilizes a
comprehensive e-mail system, School Messenger, our website and district mobile app
to keep our community of students, teachers, and parents well informed, engaged, and
connected.

Our district values community service and service learning. All Fort Lee High School
students are required to complete a minimum of fifty hours of community service.
Students are is involved in a variety of charitable organizations and activities.

The Fort Lee School district consists of four K-4 schools, one grade 5-6 school, one
grade 7‑8 middle school, and the high school.
