small house and the twin house separated by a small terrace. So, this
terrace is between “Balcony Room” and “Small Room”.
There is a large oval-shaped dragon jar for the servants to
bring water from the Lampam Canal keeping for the city lord bathing,
opposite the twin-triple house, which is on the Westside of the terrace.
It is a longhouse spanning from the South to the North separated into
rooms used as a barn for storing rice paddy, kitchen, storage room and
toilet. The old palace, when it was rebuilt, only had such structures. The
house on three sides surrounds the central courtyard in a U-shape. On
the north side, which is the side that has a walkway with a fence on the
terrace. There is a front door and staircase leading from the terrace
down to the ground next to a small patio. Between the small house and
kitchen, there is a porch partition, and the back door with a staircase
leading down to the ground for the servants to bring water from the
Lampam Canal to use in the palace as well.
The materials used to build the old palace were all wood. The
method of building the house was used “luk Sak” or a wooden wedge
that was attached instead of nails, which is the method of ancient Thai
craftsmen after the restoration of the patio disappeared, but there is
a terracotta tiled courtyard instead. Because, hardwoods are hard to
find today and will have problems for maintenance. After that, it can’t
be considered and restored to be the same as in the past.

ท�ำเป็นชอ่ งลับมีกระดานปดิ ไว้ เม่ือเกิดเหตฉุ ุกเฉินเจา้ เมืองสามารถหลบหนี
ลงไปทางชอ่ งน้ี ซง่ึ จะออกไปสู่รมิ ฝ่ ังคลองล�ำป�ำ
หน้าหอ้ งนอนลกั ษณะเปน็ โถง คงเปน็ ท่สี �ำหรบั เจา้ เมอื งวา่ ราชการโดย
มีระเบียงลดระดับลงไปจากหอ้ งน้ีอยู่ ๒ ด้าน เชอ่ื วา่ เปน็ ท่ีน่ังของขา้ ราชการ
ระดับต่าง ๆ เม่ือเขา้ ประชมุ ปรกึ ษาข้อราชการ
ถัดลงไปก็เป็นลานบ้านมีต้นชมพู่ขนาดใหญ่ต้นหน่ึงมีแท่นก่อด้วย
อิฐรอบเปน็ ท่ีนั่ง
ส่วนเรอื นไทยอีก ๔ หลัง ท่ีล้อมรอบลานบา้ นอยู่น้ี ๓ หลัง เป็นเรอื น
ขนาดเล็ก มีหอ้ งนอนและระเบียงหน้าหอ้ งเหมือนกันท้งั ๓ หลัง อีกหลังหน่ึง
เป็นเรอื นครวั มีขนาดใหญก่ ว่าเรอื นเล็กทั้ง ๓ หลัง
ส่วนเรอื นหลังสุดท้ายเป็นเรอื นครวั สภาพของวังใหม่ท่ีเห็นทุกวัน
น้ี มีการบูรณะปรบั ปรงุ สภาพจากของดั้งเดิมมาแล้ว ภายใต้การดแู ลของ
กรมศิลปากรเชน่ กันในฐานะโบราณสถาน

ลักษณะของสถาปัตยกรรม

วังใหม่เป็นกลุ่มเรอื นไทย ๕ หลังยกพ้ืนสูงเรอื นทุกหลังสรา้ งด้วย
ไม้แบบเรอื นไทยโบราณยกพ้ืนสูง หลังคามุงกระเบ้ืองดินเผา ประกอบตัว
เรอื นด้วยลูกสัก หรอื ล่มิ ไม้แทนตะปูเชน่ เดียวกับวงั เก่า บานหน้าต่างตกแต่ง
ลวดลายก้านขด ประจำ� ยามและลายเถาวัลย์พรรณพฤกษา ตัวเรอื นใหญ่มี
ลักษณะพิเศษ คือหน้าจวั่ มีลวดลายดวงอาทิตย์ข้ึน

The new palace or the new residence of Phraya Abhai Borirak

(Net Chantarojawong)

The governor of Phatthalung during the years 1889-1903

The new palace is a group of five Thai houses raised in the basement
high surrounded the central terrace, which was built later. It is a group of five
Thai houses, consisting of the president’s house, which is the residence of Phraya
Abhai Borirak (Net), the city governor, with his wife and children. It looks like
twin houses.
Inside the twin houses, there are several bedrooms. In the city lord’s
bedroom, the room floor was made of a secret compartment, covered with a
board. When an emergency occured, the lord could escape down through this
compartment that would go out to the coast of Lampam Canal.
In front of the bedroom looks like a hall. It would be the place for
the governor to work with the balcony down from this room on two sides. It
believed that would be the seat of civil officers at different levels when they
had government consultation meetings.
Beside, it is a courtyard with a large rose apple tree. One of them, there
is a brick plinth around, which is a seat.
For the other four Thai houses that surround the courtyard, three of
these houses are small houses. There are the same bedrooms and a balcony
in front of the room. The other house is a kitchen larger than the three small
houses.
The last house is a kitchen building. The condition of the new
palace that has been seen today, it has been restored to improve its original
condition under the supervision of the Fine Arts Department as well as an
ancient historical site.

The type of architecture.
The new palace is a group of five Thai houses on a raised floor. Every
house was built with wooden as traditional Thai houses and clay tiled roof
pegging the house with Luk Sak or wooden wedges instead of nails as in the
old palace. It was decorated with Kankhot, Prajam Yam, and vine patterns. The
main house has a special feature that is the pediment with the pattern of the
rising sun.

บา้ นสมหวงั อ�ำเภอกงหรา สภาพเหมือนเดิมทุกประการ อายุประมาณ ๘๕ ปี

หลังท่ี ๒ เรอื นของนายลบ - นางลี มาจากบ้านแหลมยาง ต�ำบล
ปรางหมู่ สภาพเดิมอายุประมาณ ๘๐ ปีโดยการรอ้ ื แล้วน�ำมาสรา้ งใหม่

หลังท่ี ๓ เรอื นของนายแสง - นางแป้น นวลยัง มาจากบ้านคอกวัว
ต�ำบลชยั บุรี อายุประมาณ ๗๐ ปี การยา้ ยบา้ นท้ังหลังโดยใชค้ นหาม โดย
ถอดส่วนท่ีมีน้�ำหนักมากออกเสียก่อน เชน่ ฝา กระเบ้อื งมุง หลังคา ฯลฯ

แล้วเสรจ็ เม่ือ พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๘ ด�ำเนินการสรา้ งโดย ภูมิปญั ญาท้องถ่ิน
มาประกอบกันเปน็ หลงั เดียว รปู แบบบา้ น เรอื นแพ ลกั ษณะอาคารโครงสรา้ ง
ไม้ ยกใต้ถุนสูงเปิดโล่ง ในบรเิ วณรว้ั บ้าน ซง่ึ ต้ังอยู่ในพ้ืนท่ีบรเิ วณวัดแจง้
หลังคาทรงสูง มีความลาดชนั เพ่ือใหน้ ้�ำฝนไหลผ่านโดยสะดวก โดยลักษณะ
ท่ัวไปมี ๓ แบบ คือ หลังคาจวั่ ทรงไทย หลังคาป้ นั หยา หลังคาจวั่ มนิลา มี
การต่อชายคาออกไปคลุมบนั ได เน่ืองจากฝนตกชกุ มากในบรเิ วณภาคใต้ ไม่
นิยมฝังเสาเรอื นลงไปในดิน แต่จะใชต้ อม่อหรอื ฐานเสาท่ีทำ� ด้วยไม้เน้ือแข็ง
ศิลาแลง หรอื เสาก่ออิฐฉาบปูนรองรบั รปู แบบเปน็ เรอื นไม้ยกพ้ืนใต้ถุนสูง ๓

Ancient House of Wat Chaeng School

Around the year 2004, Mr.Praphaksit Chuayniam, the former
director of Wat Chaeng School had an idea about preserving the local
ancient Thai houses. Therefore, he decided to purchase these three
Thai houses.
The first house, was originally the house of Mr. Phong - Mrs. Lub
Dumnim from Ban Somwang, Kong Ra District. The condition was still
the same as in the past about 85 years old.
The second house, was the house of Mr. Lob - Mrs. Lee from
Ban Laem Yang, Prang Mu Sub-district, still in the same condition, which
is about 80 years old by demolishing and rebuilding.
The third house, was the house of Mr. Saeng - Mrs. Phaen Nuan-
yang from Ban Khok Wua, Chaiburi Sub-district, which is about 70 years
old, moved the whole house by using people to carry and removed the
heavy parts first, such as the lid, roof tiles, etc.
It was built completely in 2005 by using the local wisdom to
build into a single house as a raft-house style. It was a wooden structure
building, open raised floor in the fence area. It is located in the area
around Wat Chaeng with a tall roof and slope allowing rainwater to flow
through easily. In general, there are 3 types; Thai-style gable roofs, Ma-
nila gable roofs, and the eaves are connected to cover the stairs due to
heavy rainfall in the South. It was not popular to bury the pillars into the
soil, but will use a stanchion or pillar base made of hardwood, laterite,
or cement brick pillar to support. The style is a three wooden houses
with raised stilts next to each other. The outstanding architectural style
is the shape of an elephant shaped-house, a pointed pavement, and a
lower curved roof. The cover is a standing window-pane, small windows
polished wood core. The main room door is pegged wood, the ceiling
is made of hardwood. The terrace made by Kiam Wood, pegging to Luk
Sak, the hole, and the pole base uses a half piece of cement pole.

This house was built in 1946, made of local wood. The main roof

It was a single house with a Thai-style gable main roof. It
was a 2-floor wooden structure with a raised floor. This house was
renovated in 1951 after being damaged by the fire. After that, Nguan
Seng Pharmacy repaired the damaged parts. Presently, Nguan Seng
Pharmacy is well-known as a Chinese Herbal Pharmacy in Phatthalung
Municipality.

Ancient House, Mrs. Wipha - Ajarn Charoen Wongsawat

Charoen Kuad Wicha Building, which was around 73 years old,
in 1948. It was a single house style with a main roof as Pan Ya style. It
was a 2 floors wooden structure building with an open-air raised floor.
It is located near the river.
The owner of this house was a former chief district officer, lived
with his wife. That was Mrs. Wipa Wongsawat’s father. She said; in the
past, before building this house, they had to collect the wood and store
it into water for a month to make the wood saturated. And over time,
the wood cannot decay easily. At the present, the wood that was used
to build this house still has mud stains from the past. Now, this house
is owned by Mrs. Wipha Wongsawat who lives with her husband, Ajarn
Charoen Wongsawat, a former teacher at Satri Phatthalung School.

Ancient house, Mrs. Jeam Chanlam

The building architecture was Pan Ya style, about 3 years. It was
built in 1947. The house style was a single house with a Pan Ya style
main roof. It was a wooden structure building with open-air and usable
raised floor. Located nearby Soi road, accessing (alley) to other ele-
ments around the house area, such as pavilion, and pond. The renova-
tion: latest renovation in 2007 on the damaged part. It was a wooden
house raised high floor in Pan Ya style. The building was built of wood
which was Malacca Teak, Champa, Green Bamboo, Mitong, Black Devil
Tree wood, etc. The house roof is covered with clay tiles, which were
ordered from Ko Yo District, Songkhla Province. The building took many
years before it was finished because the road was too difficult, with
non-modern machines, and using most of human labor with the help
of neighbors. The wood was carried by elephants, and also using saws
and axes for building construction. At the present, this house is still used
as a residence, but the age of the house is around 74 years, it is still in
good condition and has deteriorated over time.

Wat Khaothong School (Ban Pak Khlong) was established in 1929,
originally located at Wat Ban Suan, Moo. 6, Makok Nuea Sub-district.
Later, it was moved to Wat Phu Khao Thong on June 1, 1930 by Chao
Khun Thamawarodom, the Southern Vice Dean. At that time, there was
only a school building, size 8 x 12 meters called “Ban Pak Khlong School”
which is currently used as a library. The architecture of building and
library construction is about 91 years, It was a one floor single house.

Wat Khao Or was an important temple in the Ayutthaya Era,
originally an abandoned temple. Later, in 1741, Phra Maha Intharat came
from Pattani and decided to build this ancient cloister in that period.
The architecture of the building was Thai-style cloister, around 172 years
old, built in 1849. It was a single house style. The main roof style was
Thai-style gable, and 1-storey wooden building, usable open-air raised
high floor.

This single wooden house is about 100 years old, built in 1921
using a budget of 400 baht with the help of neighbors. It was single

This house is about 100-105 years old. It was the house of
Mrs. Puan Korakot, the current owner. The structure of this house was
mostly made of wood. The lumber used to build a house was obtained
by cutting the lumber from a high hill and transporting it by the neigh-
bors carrying it down from the hill. Then, they built a raft to move the
lumber along the canal, which took about 4-5 nights. This house was
built with cooperation from neighbors. Presently, this house has some
damaged parts that cannot be used. The budget used to build a house
was invaluable in that era because the materials and equipment were
natural resources, and the wages of workers would be paid by the food
and water.

นายเจรญิ มิตรสินลา เล่าว่า บ้านหลังน้ีเดิมเป็นของนายชู พุ่มนวล
มีความสัมพันธเ์ ป็นพ่อตาของตน เม่ือปี พ.ศ.๒๔๗๗ ได้เรม่ิ หาท่ีดินเพ่ือสรา้ งท่ีอยู่
อาศัยของครอบครวั เดิมคุณพ่อชู พุ่มนวล เป็นคนละแวกน้ี เลยได้จบั จองท่ีดินผืน
น้ีเอาไว้และเรม่ิ ถางป่า ตัดไม้ เล่ือยไม้ โดยใชแ้ รงงานจากเพ่ือนบ้านของตน ได้เรม่ิ
ลงมือก่อสรา้ งบา้ นตลอดระยะเวลา ๑ ปี จนท�ำใหบ้ ้านหลังน้ีเสรจ็ เรยี บรอ้ ย ก็ได้ยา้ ย
เขา้ มาอาศัยจนถึงปัจจุบนั

Mr. Charoen Mitsinla said that this house originally belonged to
Mr. Chu Phumnuan, who was his father-in-law. In 1934, when he started
looking for land to build a residence for his family. He was originally a
local person, so he began to take and clear this land, cutting wood,
sawing wood by using the labor of their neighbors. He started to build
a house for a year until it was completed. He moved to live in the house
until now.

เน่ืองจากนางสาวจนิ ตนา หมวดสง เล่าวา่ บา้ นหลังน้ีสรา้ งเม่ือปี พ.ศ.๒๔๖๔
ปจั จุบนั มีอายุ ๑๐๐ ปี ซง่ึ เดิมบา้ นหลงั น้ีเปน็ ของคณุ พ่อเอ่ียม หมวดสง มีความสัมพันธ์
เป็นพ่อของนางสาวจนิ ตนา หมวดสง ซง่ึ ได้จบั จองบรเิ วณพ้ืนท่ีน้ีเพ่ือถางและได้ท�ำ
ท่ีอยู่อาศัย โดยได้รวมพลจากเพ่ือนบ้านใหม้ าชว่ ยกันท�ำจนเสรจ็ ภายในระยะเวลา

Ms. Jintana Maudsong said that this house was built in 1921.
Currently, it is 100 years old. Originally, this house belonged to Mr. Iam
Maudsong, was her father who had occupied this area to clear and make
a place for a living. He gathered the neighbors to help to build the house
and completed it within a year period. Later, Ms. Jintana Maudsong
became a caretaker after her father;s house and built a new house next
to the old one. But, the old house has not yet been demolished because
she wants to keep it for future generations to see and learn about the
structure of the ancient house.

นางล่ิม รกั ราม ได้เล่าว่า เม่ือประมาณ พ.ศ.๒๔๙๔ สามีของตนได้มีการมา
จบั จองท่ีดินตรงน้ีเพ่ือท�ำนาและท�ำสวน จากนั้นเม่ือได้แต่งงานกับตนจงึ ได้สรา้ ง
บา้ นหลังน้ีเพ่ือใชเ้ ป็นเรอื นหอ โดยในการสรา้ งบา้ นหลังน้ีได้ขอความชว่ ยเหลือจาก

Mrs. Lim Rakram said that in 1951, her husband had come to
occupy the land for farming and gardening. After that, when married
him, he built this house to be used as a dormitory. To build this house,
he asked for help from friends who lived in the same area together, it
took about 1-2 years to complete. This house was made entirely of wood
as a central terrace. The roof was covered with clay tiles.

มีอายุ ๗๔ ปี ซง่ึ เดิมบา้ นหลังน้ีเป็นของนายหวน จนั ทรท์ อง มีความสัมพันธเ์ ปน็ ตา

Ms. Suchon Damkliang said that this house began to be built in
1947. At the present, it is about 74 years. Originally, this house belonged
to Mr. Huan Chantong who was Ms. Suchon Damkliang’s grandfather.
Her grandfather had occupied this land for clearing and built a house
as a family residence. Her grandfather gathered neighbors to come
together to build this house. Building a house in the past, it required a
lumberjack. Later, Ms. Suchon Damkliang’s grandfather passed away.
So, this house was passed on to her mother until now it has been passed
on to Ms. Suchon Damkliang.

นางข้มิ รามทิพย์ เดิมเปน็ คนบา้ นควนกรวด ต�ำบลปรางหมู่ อ�ำเภอเมือง
จงั หวัดพัทลุง ต่อมาได้สมรสกับนายจวน รามทิพย์ เลยย้ายมาต้ังรกรากท่ี หมู่
๓ ต�ำบลโคกม่วง อ�ำเภอขาชยั สน จงั หวัดพัทลุง (บ้านโคกม่วง) เม่ือประมาณปี
พ.ศ.๒๔๙๑ ได้ขอแรงเพ่ือนๆ ในระแวกน้ันชว่ ยลงแรงก่อสรา้ งบ้านไม้ข้นึ โดยมีนอก
ชานตรงกลาง โครงสรา้ งท�ำจากไม้เคียมทั้งหลัง หลังคามุงด้วยกระเบ้อื งดินเผาต่อ
มาหลังคาบางส่วนชำ� รดุ ผุพัง การหาซอ้ื หลังคากระเบ้อื งดินเผามีความยากล�ำบาก
ไม่ค่อยมีคนจำ� หน่าย ทางนายจวนและนางข้ิม รามทิพย์ จงึ ตกลงกันว่าจะเปล่ียน
เปน็ หลังคากระเบ้อื ง ซง่ึ หาซอ้ื ง่าย และราคาดีกวา่ และได้เปล่ียนหลังคาทั้งหลังในปี
พ.ศ.๒๕๔๔ นับเปน็ การซอ่ มแซมครงั้ ใหญ่ และครงั้ เดียวของบ้านหลังน้ี

Mrs. Khim Ramthip was originally from Ban Khuan Kruat, Prang
Mu Sub-district, Mueang District, Phatthalung Province. Later, she
married with Mr. Juan Ramthip moved to settle at Moo. 3, Khok Muang
Sub-district, Khaochaison District, Phatthalung Province (Ban Khok
Muang). In 1948, they asked for help from their neighbors to build a
wooden house with a central terrace. The structure was made of Khiam
wood. The roof was covered with clay tiles. Later, some of the roofs were
damaged and decayed. It was difficult to buy a clay tiled roof, and not
many people were selling it. As for the stores that sell them, it was very
expensive. So, they decided to change the roof tiles which are easy to
buy and the price is better. The entire roof was replaced in 2001, it was
considered a major repair, and once of this house.

เดิมท่ดี ินแปลงน้ีอยูใ่ นพ้ืนท่ี หมู่ท่ี ๒ ต�ำบลควนขนุน อ�ำเภอเขาชยั สน จงั หวดั
พัทลุง ต่อมาได้แยกมาเปน็ หมู่ท่ี ๖ ต�ำบลโคกม่วง อ�ำเภอเขาชยั สน จงั หวัดพัทลุง
ครอบครวั ของนางเตย เกตนุ ่ิม ได้ขอแรงจากเพ่ือนบา้ นในละแวกนั้นชว่ ยกันลงแรง

นอนพักผ่อนในตอนกลางวนั เท่าน้ัน ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ.๒๕๖๐ นางเขยี ด เกตนุ ่ิม
(พ่ีสาว) ได้ล้มป่วยเส้นเลือดในสมองแตก ท�ำให้เป็นอัมพาตจงึ ได้มีการก่ออิฐฉาบ
ปูนท่ีใต้ถุน เพ่ือความสะดวกในการดแู ลคนป่วย

Phatthalung Province. Her family asked for help from neighbors to build
the house by using the whole Khiam wood. It looked like a Thai-style
house with a basement, but could not be used, which was only the stuff
storage, clothes racks, plowed parking and a litter for taking a nap during

dormitory for Mrs. Suan Kanchanaphan The house was divided into 2
sides with a walkway in the middle of the house. In 2021, they expanded
a bathroom to be inside the house and also a kitchen. They renovated
the stairs leading up to the front of the house replacing the damaged
part as well.

This house was built in 1916 by Mr. Muang Duangsud and his
relatives helped together to build the house. It took about 2 years to
be completed, which the house was divided into 2 sides, there was a
walkway in the middle of the house, and expanded a bathroom inside
replacing the damaged roof, but still used it as a clay tile, and renovated
the stairs to be cement. At the present, this house is 105 years old,
owned by Mr. Aun Pandam, a grandson of Mr. Phuang Duangsud.
There are 3 residents in the house, which are Mr. Aun Pandam (host),
Mrs. Ob Pandam (wife), and Mr. Kasidis Pandam (son).
