I have always respected how our Founders placed a major emphasis on college loyalty. They dearly loved their collegiate experience at Barnard College and hoped, maybe even expected, every AOII chapter to pour energy and love into their universities leaving behind a positive mark. They even wrote this desire into "The Purpose of Alpha Omicron Pi" which appears at the beginning of the AOII Constitution. You can read AOII's full "Purpose" on page 9, but the emphasis to be made here comes in the line, "...to stand at all times for character, dignity, scholarship, and college loyalty..." We often speak of supporting our chapters, our Fraternity, even our communities, but in this issue we intentionally shine a light on college loyalty. You have been hearing about the Archives Museum for a while now, and I am thrilled to say it is open and ready for visitors. September 22, 2023 was a fabulous day as we hosted a Grand Opening for leadership donors and celebrated AOII's Legacy of Sisterhood in a heartfelt way. The museum is a point of pride for all members to appreciate our long rich history and provide a sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves. Read more about this event and the museum beginning on page 21. The AOII website features more information, including videos and a form to schedule a selfguided in-person tour so be sure to check it out. In this issue about college loyalty, we fi ttingly celebrate the AOII Foundation Scholarship winners and a feature on the fabulous service we use to feed our hungry collegians where chapter housing off ers meals. Read about the members we have profi led for their college loyalty and fl ip over to page 38 for our fun take on Things We Love for this issue. You will fi nd the 2024 Founders' Day Messages from the Executive Board and Ruby Fund Committee on pages 30 and 31. And I am excited to launch a new feature called Questions For Kaya. As Executive Director, Kaya Miller will answer questions to give insight into Fraternity operations and aspirations. You can fi nd this new addition on page 58. I hope you enjoy our salute to college loyalty - and please come see us! There is an entire College Loyalty Mug Exhibit just waiting for you to visit! Viewpoint 7 When AOII was founded in 1897, Barnard College had only been granting degrees to women for less than a decade. After conferring its fi rst degree in 1889, Barnard College, and the women who studied there, became trailblazers in the fi ght to change women’s lives through education. As women began accessing higher education, they achieved greater economic independence as more career opportunities became available to them. They became increasingly interested in social and political activism as their college education often created a sense of empowerment. Many newly educated women became leaders in social and political movements, advocating for women’s suff rage, civil rights, and other important causes. Education also played a role in improving women’s health and well-being, and the presence of women in higher education contributed to changing societal attitudes about women's capabilities and the need for gender equality. Perhaps most relevant to our sisterhood, college provided women with opportunities to build networks and form social connections that could be valuable throughout their lives. These connections often played a role in career advancement and personal development. Women who attended college became role models for younger generations, inspiring girls and young women to pursue education and professional ambitions. The education our Founders received at Barnard quite literally changed their lives. It is no wonder that our Founders included college loyalty prominently in the Object of our Fraternity! Now, more than 125 years later, there are more women than men enrolled in colleges and universities across North America. Even though our campuses may have changed, the benefi ts of higher education remain the same. I was born into a family of educators where I learned early on that knowledge provides amazing opportunities. Throughout my own education, I was encouraged by teachers, friends, mentors, and sisters to never stop learning because it is through learning that we grow. As a professional, I have spent my entire career dedicated to making higher education the best it can be for the next generation, so they might have even greater opportunities than I have had. To me, college loyalty isn’t only about my love for a specifi c school. College loyalty is also about my deep gratitude for the way higher education can change your life. While I will always love tailgating in the Grove and browsing at Square Books, the most meaningful impact my alma mater had on me was it set me on a path both professionally and personally that would bring me to this moment. So while we continue to celebrate those wonderful things that make our colleges and universities so beloved, let us also remember to be grateful, both to the trailblazing women of the late 1800s who readied this path for all of us and to the institutions of higher learning that have given us, the knowledge and skills to change our lives, our families, and our communities for the better. May our college loyalty continue to inspire ambition in the next generation of women scholars! The AOII Constitution, written by AOII’s Founders, was fi rst adopted in January 1897. Article I establishes the Fraternity’s name. Article II goes on to explain the Fraternity’s Object or purpose, and identifi es the signifi cance that college loyalty had on our Founders. Helen St. Clair Mullan wrote: The Object of this Fraternity shall be to encourage a spirit of fraternity and love among its members; to stand at all times for character, dignity, scholarship, and college loyalty; to strive for and support the best interests of the colleges and universities in which chapters are installed; and in no way to disregard, injure or sacrifi ce those interests for the sake of the prestige or advancement of the Fraternity or any of its chapters. Character. Dignity. Scholarship. College loyalty. Seeking friendships with others who possessed these four values inspired AOII’s Founders to establish Alpha Omicron Pi in their junior year. There were many other reasons, but these four values initially defi ned what AOII was intended to become. In the fall of 1894, Stella George Stern, Elizabeth Heywood Wyman, Helen St. Clair, and Jessie Wallace Hughan entered Barnard as part of the freshman class that would later be described as the Glorious Class of ‘98. Their passion to begin AOII would come two years later, but they entered college with an immediate love for Barnard and college life. These women were confi dent of themselves and eager to experience everything college life off ered. They were witty, humorous, talented and, to a ladylike degree, daring! The stamp of their high spirits marked this class from the moment its members walked through the door at 343 Madison Avenue [Barnard College]. Younger than members of the six classes before them, the class of ‘98 set out with initiative and energy to form countless new clubs and societies, embrace student government - a new concept at that time, redesign the stodgy old school yearbook, and establish the Junior Ball. They also initiated numerous school traditions including the custom of wearing caps and gowns throughout the halls of Barnard. On their graduation day, Barnard Dean Emily Iames Smith said to the graduates, “…though other classes may have gotten more out of Barnard than has '98, no class has ever – perhaps none ever will – put more into Barnard.” From day one, it was their hope that the same passion for college loyalty be rooted in all the chapters and members of Alpha Omicron Pi. AOII members are called to support their chapters, while also being of service to their campuses and communities. It is a tall order, but one that members continue to embrace wholeheartedly today. From serving as campus leaders or showing team spirit, to serving on college boards or leading university service projects, AOIIs are standing up for college loyalty. Stella, Helen, Bess, and Jessie would be proud of their passion. By Mariellen Perkinson Sasseen, Alpha Delta (U of Alabama), Director of Strategic Partnerships/Editor 9

As an Associate Director at ESPN, Mallory Moore, Alpha Delta (U of Alabama) champions school spirit every day. She is employed within the ESPN Directing group out of their satellite ofl ce in Charlotte, NC. From Charlotte, her team is in charge of all the SEC Network programming such as The Paul Finebaum Show, SEC Now, Out of Pocket, SEC Nation, etc., as well as any specialty SEC sports coverage. In addition to her studio responsibilities, she also works live events such as college football, basketball, baseball and softball, and the WNBA. She is currently in the middle of her second college football season as an ESPN Associate Director and loving it!  Mallory was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Both her parents are Alabama alumni, so she and her siblings grew up going to Tuscaloosa for gamedays, bid days, and more. This fall, it was Mallory who hooked up ESPN GameDay and SEC Nation with Alpha Delta to showcase their college loyalty during both networks' Saturday morning programming prior to the Alabama vs Texas game in Tuscaloosa on September 9. She explains, “One day in the ofl ce, some of the SEC Nation crew approached me about wanting to do something exciting with a sorority when they had their show in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama vs Texas game. When asked if I knew of any willing chapters, I knew just the group of women I wanted to include!” With multiple creative ideas being tossed around, Mallory immediately reached out to some of the Alpha Delta advisors to see if they would be willing to do what SEC Nation was asking, and after some discussion, plans started to fall into place that included drone footage, TikTok videos, and more. “After a few weeks of Zoom meetings and planning the details, we worked as a team to make it all happen.”  As an AD for college football, Mallory works every Saturday of the regular season on an assigned game on their network. Unfortunately for her, her assigned game that week was not the Alabama vs Texas game, but rather the James Madison vs Virginia game in Charlottesville, VA, so she was unable to attend the fi lming in Tuscaloosa. She didn’t miss out on the excitement though. “I received countless text Meet Mallory Moore 10 | Fall 2023

messages with videos and images as the fi lming day went on and I ran around the ofl ce showing everyone. The morning it aired, I was with my crew preparing for our game, and I was thoroughly entertained watching my sisters cheer and dance!” Alpha Delta sisters were featured prominently on SEC Nation and ESPN College GameDay that morning. Mallory’s career journey to this point has been swift. She shares, “I have always known I wanted to pursue a career in a creative fi eld. In high school, I knew that TV was something I was interested in so when I got to the U of Alabama, I applied for an on campus internship with Crimson Tide Productions (CTP). CTP is a part of the ESPN school control room project, where students get hands-on experience working on live event production.” Through four years as a student with CTP, Mallory was a Technical Director, Replay Operator, and became a Director her junior and senior years. “If you attended an Alabama football game in 2020 or 2021, chances are, you were watching my replays inside of Bryant Denny Stadium on the jumbotron. If you watched Alabama baseball game on SECN+, I might have been directing the show! I fell in love with this job through CTP and knew my dream job would be with ESPN. So, upon graduation, that’s what I went for… and here I am!” While a collegiate member of Alpha Delta, Mallory held several diff erent leadership positions including Homecoming Chair, Assistant Recruitment Chair, and Vice President of Administration. She adds, “While all of these positions taught me so much about myself, the position I cherished the most was Sports Chair. Nothing brought me more joy than playing intramural sports with my sisters, especially the days when we brought home championships. Nothing teaches you more about leadership and the qualities it requires, like being a part of a team and working towards a common goal.”  Mallory observes the passion and pride of college loyalty at colleges across the SEC every day. She believes college loyalty was important to our Founders because that is what bonds students beyond their Greek afl liation. “I think it is easy for people to relate to those who shared a similar experience during their collegiate years. That comes with having a shared sense of belonging. I am a proud member of Alpha Delta and equally a proud alumni member of the U of Alabama. They will forever be a part of who I am.”  “I am a proud member of Alpha Delta and equally a proud alumni member of the U of Alabama. They will forever be a part of who I am." Meet Cindy Visot Meet Carson Tarantino Cynthia Swartzfager Visot, Ed.D., Kappa Tau (Southeastern Louisiana U) has two universities near and dear to her heart. A mentor once told her, “First you learn, then you earn, then you return” and she has been living those wise words to the fullest. Now retired after a 31-year career as Director of Orientation, Special Assistant to Provost, Chief of Staff and Corporate Secretary, and the Vice President for University Aff airs at U of South Florida (USF), Cindy fi nally found time to give back to both universities where she earned degrees. Up until retirement, her limited volunteer time always went to AOII interests, so once she was able, she jumped in with gusto to serve on the SLU Foundation Board of Directors. At USF, which is in her hometown of Tampa, Florida, Cindy earned an Ed.D in Adult Education in 2000 and has served as a volunteer on boards and in advisory positions in the areas of women’s athletics and leadership programming. She has also been mentoring two women who are recipients of scholarships established to honor her husband’s mother. As to why she believes college loyalty is important, Cindy shared, “I believe that the collegiate years are the formative years of preparing for one’s professional career through the numerous extracurricular activities provided. My experiences allowed me to develop and advance leadership skills and instilled school spirit and loyalty to the institution.” Carson Carver Tarantino, Omicron (U of Tennessee Knoxville) is the Coordinator of Special Events in the Ofl ce of New Student Orientation at the U of Tennessee Knoxville. As a collegian at UTK, she was a student worker in several diff erent ofl ces on campus. This sparked a love and interest in higher education. Carson shared, “I knew going into my senior year I wanted to try and land a full-time job working on campus. A career in higher education would allow me to work at a place I love and serve a diverse population of students. I was lucky enough to be off ered a job in the Orientation Ofl ce in May of 2021. I love getting to be the fi rst ofl ce students interact with when they arrive on campus.”    Carson believes that every student has a story and brings a unique perspective with them to campus. She added, “Being college loyal is an opportunity for members to give back to their undergraduate campus that has given them so many unique opportunities.” And she goes on to share, “I had the most wonderful experience at the U of Tennessee; therefore, I will give back to it in every way that I can. In the same way, Alpha Omicron Pi also had a positive impact on me. In my time in the Omicron Chapter, I grew as a leader, made lifelong friendships, and was encouraged to stretch out of my comfort zone. I will forever be grateful for my time in Alpha Omicron Pi and will never be able to count the blessings it has given me! As an alumni of UTK, I will try and continue to serve the chapter and my university in a variety of ways.”  Standing Up for College Loyalty 12 | Fall 2023

Meet Renee Hebert Renee Hebert, Lambda Tau (U of Louisiana Monroe) is a volunteer on the U of Louisiana Monroe Alumni Association Board of Directors. She earned her undergraduate degree from there in 1998 and a Masters in 2000. Beyond volunteering, ULM was her employer for many years. She started as an undergrad student worker, then as a graduate assistant, and fi nally as a full time professional as the Assistant Director, Student Life. Currently, she lives in Texas and works for Electronic Arts. Renee shares, “I’ve always been dedicated to my university and jump at any chance to help them. I had a 15-year career in higher education, so when I changed careers and was missing my college connection, another sister recommended me for the Alumni Board, and I quickly agreed it was a great next step for me.” Renee loves keeping alumni connected with the university and current students. She recently created a mentoring program between the Alumni Board and their student alumni organization. She explains, “Having a mentee and helping the next generation of Warhawks has been extremely special, allowing me to give back to ULM while preparing students for life after college.” She is often asked why she gives back, and her answer is simply, “Why wouldn’t I give back to what gave me so much?” She adds, “I think our Founders had similar feelings. If it wasn’t for ULM, I wouldn’t be an AOII. Being loyal to AOII means also being loyal to the university that supports AOII.” Meet Jordan Harris Jordan McLean (Porter) Harris, Tau Delta (BirminghamSouthern College) is the Associate Director of Admission at Birmingham-Southern (BSC). She is also the co-sponsor for the BSC cheer team and an advisor for AOII’s Tau Delta Chapter. Jordan and her husband, Hank, got married on BSC’s campus in 2020 and live in Birmingham, AL with their two dogs. Like many, Jordan dearly loves her alma mater. “The community at Birmingham-Southern made my years as a collegian signifi cant to my personal and professional growth, and it's a joy to share my experiences with students who are looking to fi nd their college home.” For her, the biggest take-away from her role are the relationships. Her coworkers, the people she meets while traveling for BSC, the students she interacts with on campus, and all the families that join the BSC community have become lifelong friends. She shares, “There’s one family in particular who I got to work with years ago - the student ultimately came to BSC and went through formal recruitment. That’s when I found out her mom was as AOII! The student, the mother, and I all stay in touch to this day, and I love that my work at BSC gave me another AOII connection for life.” To Jordan, college loyalty means being committed to the bigger picture. “I like to think our Founders knew when writing AOII’s purpose that members were destined to make an impact in their chapters of initiation but could make an even greater impact on the college community and the world around them. It’s our faithfulness to each chapter, university, and local and global community that can bring the Founders’ vision to life and refl ect credit upon the Fraternity.” Standing Up for College Loyalty 13

Meet the Baton Rouge Area Alumnae Chapter Baton Rouge Area Alumnae Chapter (BRAAC) is a chapter that truly embraces college loyalty, highlighting it annually during two chapter gatherings. The fi rst opportunity each year is their College Loyalty Kick Off event that began almost a decade ago. This year their goal was not only to highlight the chapters represented within their membership, but also learn each chapter’s sub-motto. Members attend the September event wearing school colors and there is a friendly competition of which of the 18 schools represented in the BRAAC can have the most members in attendance. Anna Guerra’s, Lambda Tau (U of Louisiana at Monroe) love for college loyalty began when she was the New Orleans Alumnae President and read in the Book of Rituals Instructions that an alternate conclusion to the Candle Lighting Service for Founders’ Day is to hold a college roll call. In this version, members from each chapter are called forward during the service to light a candle. They later take a chapter group photo. Anna shares, “I don’t think that a lot of chapters do that at Founders’ Day. Having been AP of two chapters that are really 'gumbos' of many collegiate chapters, I started doing this in New Orleans and in Baton Rouge at Founders’ Day. It’s become a Founders’ Day tradition.” Both their College Loyalty Kick Off and their annual Founders’ Day celebrations are successful ways this award-winning chapter showcases college loyalty. Meet Laura Bowers When past Educational Leadership Consultant, Laura Bowers, Omicron (U of Tennessee Knoxville), came off the road travelling for AOII last year, she wasted no time accepting a volunteer role for her alma mater on the U of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) Young Alumni Council (YAC). Laura, who is now employed by Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity, is passionate about her university and knows how important it is to engage alumni early, especially at the fastest growing school in the SEC. She proudly shares, “My collegiate experience at UTK was nothing short of incredible,” adding, “I am proud to volunteer my time for its betterment!”  The YAC also reminds Laura of her time as an AOII collegian, explaining, “I joined AOII because I could tell the women in the room were likeminded in their purpose, despite having vastly diff erent interests. The members of YAC are also like-minded in purpose, despite having vastly diff erent career fi elds and life experiences. I'm honored to be surrounded by people who push me to be a better version of myself!”  Laura thoughtfully explains, “Our Founders charged us to invest in our colleges and universities because we could not exist without them! The success of our chapters is inextricably tied to the success of the institutions in which our chapters are installed. I also understand college loyalty is our Founders way of calling us to diversify our collegiate experience, for us to represent AOII all across campus, and for us to always keep our identity as students at the forefront of our minds.” Standing Up for College Loyalty 14 | Fall 2023

Meet Katherine Laplante Katie Wicke LaPlante, Epsilon Chi (Elon U), graduated from Elon in 2003 then earned a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola U in 2005. Her husband, Reed LaPlante, is also a 2003 graduate of Elon. Together they are parents to three children, Avery (15), Lilly (14), and Asher (10).  Katie works with Elon Academy, a nonprofi t college access and success program, at Elon University. The Elon Academy supports Alamance County high school students who are the fi rst in their family to attend college and/or those for whom college would be a fi nancial challenge. She oversees their family programming and provides counseling to students and families. Katie shares, “I began with the Elon Academy in 2010, starting as our fi rst cohort of students was graduating high school. As a fi rst generation college student myself, I found their mission - to support underrepresented students to and through college - very meaningful.” She adds, “I had little support navigating both the college process and college life. I am grateful and honored to partner with students and families to reclaim the fi rst generation college student identity as a point of pride, to provide holistic support throughout the college process, and to share in their successes in college and beyond. As much as possible, in everything we do, we should use whatever privilege we have to care for one another.” One of Katie’s colleagues recently told her, “College makes you a better person.” Acknowledging that while it’s possible to be a good person with any level of education, she believes she would not be the person she is today without her experiences at Elon, of which AOII was such a big part. “Elon and AOII gave me meaningful leadership experiences, lasting friendships, and opportunities to expand my thinking and learning beyond the classroom,” she says. “My work allows me to live our Founders' purpose and to support others as they fi nd their own purpose in and out of the classroom.”  The Object of this Fraternity shall be to encourage a spirit of fraternity and love among its members; to stand at all times for character, dignity, scholarship, and college loyalty; to strive for and support the best interests of the colleges and universities in which chapters are installed; and in no way to disregard, injure or sacrifi ce those interests for the sake of the prestige or advancement of the Fraternity or any of its chapters. Standing Up for College Loyalty 15

As the collegiate experience continues to evolve over time, one thing that remains a constant is the strong partnership between Alpha Omicron Pi and College Fresh. College Fresh is AOII’s preferred meal service provider at collegiate facilities across the United States. From day-to-day dining to philanthropy dinners to special gatherings with sisters – College Fresh sets the table, creating positive member experiences, fostering bonds, and celebrating the essence of college loyalty. Jake Waldecker, Director of Client Services for College Fresh, off ers an in-depth perspective on what makes this partnership so personal and fulfi lling. “College women are resilient. They are busier, with more on their plates than ever before. From class schedules, chapter meetings, philanthroies, and sisterhood events... it’s mind boggling just thinking about it,” Jake remarks. With the meal service that College Fresh provides, access to a quality - and nutritious - meal is the least of a member’s worries. “With that considered, there is no one-size-fi ts-all way to do a meal service at a chapter house. The main thing that matters in a meal service is customizability; from the meals on the plan, meals that out-of-house members are allowed to attend, the snack package, down to the menu items – everything should be tailored to the needs and wants of the chapter members.” THE HOUSE IS IN Chef Shaina’s homemade sushi for Omicron (U of Tennessee Knoxville). By Camryn Eaton, Omicron (U of Tennessee Knoxville), Assistant Director of Digital Communications 16 | Fall 2023

As we explore college loyalty through the lens of our meal services, we discover that it is intertwined with unique food traditions on each campus and the relationships forged between members and the dedicated College Fresh team, resulting in a resounding sense of togetherness that takes root in the bustling kitchens and inviting chapter dining spaces. These elements are not merely routine; they represent fond memories that are at the heart of AOII’s collegiate experience. In the Omicron Chapter house (U of Tennessee Knoxville), sisters love to gather each Friday for an elaborate brunch spread, complete with an assortment of breakfast favorites, an omelet station, fresh-cut fruit, homemade pastries, and biscuits. Meals like these are ones where fond memories, joyous giggles, and camaraderie come together. When asked about how the weekly chapter menu is developed, Jake explained that College Fresh’s system involves a two-pronged approach: suggestions and feedback. Feedback could come in the form of a smartphone app message or as simple as a note left on a whiteboard. Members’ preferences are important as chefs build out a plan to suit a variety of palates and dietary needs. After viewing suggestions and feedback, the team meets with the chapter leadership to discuss the upcoming weeks’ menus and, upon approval, the menu is published to their app. The women are involved throughout so menus are custom tailored to the chapter’s tastes. The number of meals provided weekly varies by chapter. Most chapters are on a 9 or 10 hot meal program, with lunch from Monday-Friday, and dinner from Monday - Thursday or Sunday - Thursday. Most chapters off er continental breakfast either Monday-Friday, or MondaySunday, but some chapters opt for a hot breakfast option. There are many small iterations of these meal plans, but the majority of them follow this basic template. Popular meal favorites for today’s collegiate women often revolve around the idea of “building your own” bowls. This allows members to build according to their individual tastes. Most-liked off erings right now include Build Your Own Burrito Bowls, Power Bowls, and Acai Bowls. The College Fresh team at the Alpha Delta (U of Alabama) house. French toast, sweet potato, kale and black bean hash and spinach, caramelized onion and provolone egg bake created by Chef Jaclyn in the Tau (U of Minnesota) house kitchen. Creamy orzo and roasted vegetables prepared by Chef Ciara at Xi (U of Oklahoma). BBQ chicken stuff ed baked potatoes at the Alpha Rho (Oregon State U) chapter house. College Fresh 17

College Fresh appreciates the strong partnership that often develops between the chapter and chef. College Fresh once had a team member serving at AOII’s Delta Nu Chapter (U of Nevada, Reno) during a time when there was a House Director vacancy. Members of this chapter gifted him custom-made aprons, invited him to meet their families at parents’ weekend and welcomed him into the chapter’s culture. While just one instance of the bond between meal service staff and chapter members, these friendships are cultivated each day in chapter houses across the country. Simple Culinary Recipes from College Fresh: Jake suggests roasting vegetables instead of steaming or broiling them. Toss your vegetables with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, and roast them at 425 degrees until tender (usually 30-45 minutes depending on the vegetable). The result is a better fl avor and texture than you would get steaming or boiling the vegetable. Roasted vegetables are a favorite in all AOII chapter houses. Creamy Pumpkin Soup 1 small pumpkin, skinned and small diced (roughly 3 cups) 1 onion, small diced 1 large carrot, small diced ½ teaspoon fresh ginger, fi nely chopped 1 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon 1 3⁄4 cup vegetable broth 1 cup heavy cream Salt to taste 1. Add the pumpkin, onions, carrots, ginger, and cinnamon to a soup pot and cover with the vegetable broth. Simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, until carrots are soft. Allow to cool slightly, and then puree in a blender, working in batches if needed. Allow to cool. 2. Return to the heat and stir in heavy cream until well combined. Return to heat. 3. UNVEILING AOII' Legacy of s Sisterhood The Fraternity and Foundation are thrilled to announce the Grand Opening of AOII's Archives Museum! A celebratory event for major donors was held in Brentwood, Tennessee on September 22 to kick-off the opening. AOII’s spectacular new museum is 100% funded by donor dollars which have been used to preserve and showcase our history for years to come. Thank you to all of our donors for their generosity in successfully raising $1,000,000 to make this dream a reality! Grand Opening guests were awe-struck with the exhibits and interactive opportunities. Self-guided tours can be scheduled using a link found on the AOII website under "Experience AOII". While an in-person visit is the best way to experience everything the museum has to off er, two videos have been placed on the website for members to experience the museum digitally. AOII’s International Headquarters is not only where AOII’s professional team comes to work and volunteers come for collaborative meetings, but it is also a home for AOII members. Additional space to enlarge the museum was created by repurposing how space was used on the main fl oor. Plans were made, artifacts selected, stories written, and fundraising plans developed. For more than four years, staff and volunteers worked with industry experts in design, fabrication, installation, and interactive technology on how to best showcase AOII’s most treasured resources. The results truly highlight AOII’s legacy of sisterhood. 22 | Fall 2023

Grand Foyer and Alpha O Studio When you walk through the doors, you will instantly know you have entered a space dedicated to AOII and our Legacy of Sisterhood. The Grand Foyer now prominently features AOII branding above the fi replace and the Alpha O Studio. Members are encouraged to record sisterhood moments in the recording studio's Story Port or enjoy audio and video clips from the Fraternity Archives in the listening studio. Guests entering through the rear doors will notice a background wall perfect for an Instagram-able photo opportunity. The Trunk Room The area behind the central fi replace is now named The Trunk Room. Anchoring the middle of the room is a display showcasing Stella’s Trunk, one of the museum’s most prized possessions that dates back to 1914 when Stella Perry became Grand Historian and traveled with it on her AOII journeys. Surrounding the trunk are four pillars, each a salute to one of our Founders. In addition to displaying the Founders' personal artifacts, each of these displays includes a listening station of audio recordings giving insights into each woman’s life. Flanking the outside walls of this room are major exhibits highlighting the history of AOII’s beautiful jewelry, AOII Headquarters, and To Dragma. This room also salutes college loyalty through an eyecatching collegiate university mug wall, features an interactive chapter locator map and timeline, spotlights philanthropy and service, and draws attention to the work of the AOII Foundation. Five listening stations can be found in the center of this area covering topics that include the Songs We Sing, Symbols and Brand, Stella’s Refl ections, Meeting Our Challenges, and Women’s Suff rage. Ambition Hallway & Leadership Hallway The last two main areas of the new museum encompass the two fi rst fl oor hallways. Heading towards the Executive Director’s ofl ce, the Ambition Hallway features numerous award winning and inspiring sisters via videos and displays. Across the Grand Foyer, our Gayle Fitzpatrick Leadership Hallway salutes all our past and current AOII leaders, our National Panhellenic Conference Chairmen, and the AOII alumnae experience. 28 | Fall 2023 NANCEE VINE TRUST A contribution from Nancee Vine, Phi Omicron (Hanover College) came by way of the AOII Foundation’s Keystone Society. This Foundation program recognizes sisters who make AOII a part of their will or estate plan. When Nancee passed away in 2019, the gift she left was the largest legacy gift in the Foundation’s history. To ensure that her gift would be invested in her sisters for decades to come, the Foundation determined that a portion of her gift would help fund the Archives Museum. The impact opportunity that Nancee’s gift provided will leave a lasting legacy for her beloved AOII. CRYSTAL GRAFTON-COMBS Crystal Grafton-Combs, Nu Beta (U of Mississippi), is AOII’s most recent Past International President. For most of the last 20 years, Crystal has actively served the Fraternity in board leadership roles. Since 2015, she has been a member of the AOII Executive Board, including the last four years as AOII’s International President. From 2009-2015, Crystal also served as a member of the AOII Foundation Board with a two-year term as Foundation Board President. Prior to that, she began her board service as a member of the AOII Properties Board which also ended with a two-year term as President. She is a Perry Award and Rose Award recipient. Crystal is a member of the 1897 and Keystone Societies and is a Founders Circle level donor. She continues her love of AOII as a member of the New Orleans Area, Nashville Area, Hammond Area, and Baton Rouge Alumnae Chapters. Professionally, she is a Certifi ed Professional Coach, and managing ofl cer of Picayune General Dentistry, Inc. Crystal and her husband, Trey, live in Picayune, Mississippi and are the parents of two sons. Looking back, she stated, “I have often shared that, as a collegiate woman, I did not believe that joining a sorority would actually change my life, until it did. And mine is only one story among thousands, tens of thousands even, that can now be captured here, in our beautiful new museum, where we have the ability to properly preserve our past, celebrate our present, and embrace our future.” GAYLE FITZPATRICK Gayle Fitzpatrick, Alpha Rho (Oregon State U), is an AOII Past International President, having wrapped up her Executive Board service as International President from 2015-2019. She is also a former AOII Foundation Board President as well as AOII’s NPC delegate. She currently serves as AOII Properties Vice President and Chair of the Nominating Trustees. Gayle is a member of the 1897 and Keystone Societies, and the Fitzpatrick Circle, aptly named in her honor as AOII’s fi rst living $1 million donor. She established the Gayle Fitzpatrick Leadership Award for an outstanding collegiate leader in 2021 and has endowed a Foundation Scholarship. She is also a recipient of the both the Barbara Daugs Hunt Award and an AOII Rose Award. Gayle is a member of the Portland, Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Central New Jersey, Northern NJ, NY/NJ Metro, and Reno-Tahoe Alumnae Chapters. She recently retired after a successful career in technology and makes her home in Lake Oswego, Oregon. She loves to travel, golf, and spend time with family. Gayle shared, "Our new museum is absolutely stunning! Our Founders would be so proud to see our history showcased in our new museum. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the vision come to life. It truly shines a light on the best of our beloved AOII.” SALUTE TO TOP DONORS

Donor Profi les 29 BARB ZIPPERIAN Barb Zipperian, Kappa Kappa (Ball State U), was AOII’s International President from 2009-2011. She served on numerous nonprofi t boards, often in the areas of budgets and fi nance, graciously lending her professional knowledge to the Fraternity. She further lent her experience to AOII Properties and to the AOII Foundation as both a board member and ambassador. Barb is a member of the Founders Circle giving level, and both the 1897 and Keystone Societies. She is an active member of the Nashville Area Alumnae Chapter and is serving on the upcoming Sisterhood Retreat Committee. Professionally, Barb is a retired CFO in the banking industry and currently serves as a board member for several nonprofi t organizations and a publicly traded company. She and her husband, Ken, are parents to two grown sons and they call Franklin, TN home. When asked about her reason for giving a major gift to the museum project, Barb replied, “I had been thinking for some time about how I could give back to the Fraternity in terms of “substance” (money) since we are asked to give body, brain, spirit and substance. When Allison Allgier called to tell me about the plans for the new museum, I felt that this was the right place for me to make a gift, and hopefully a diff erence. What a fabulous opportunity to protect, value and share our beloved AOII history for the future of our sisterhood.” AOII FOUNDATION The AOII Foundation is recognized for their leadership role in campaign fundraising for the museum in collaboration with the Archives Campaign Committee. The Foundation made signifi cant contributions to the campaign’s success by allocating board designated dollars and individual board member gifts. The Foundation’s role in this fundraising eff ort began with the 2019-2021 Foundation Board. President Andrea Dill, Chi Psi (California Polytechnic State U), shared, "This collaborative museum project was such a success. The Foundation Board was proud to have played a part in bringing the history of AOII to life and to help preserve the history for the future." Work continued with the 2021-2023 Foundation Board with Meagan Davies, Alpha Chi (Western Kentucky U), serving as President. Meagan added, “I think the Archives Museum brings great value to our members. It gives us the opportunity to look back at the ambitious women who founded our Fraternity while inspiring new members to make their mark both on AOII and the world.” CAROLE JURENKO JONES Carole Jurenko Jones, Alpha Delta (U of Alabama), served as AOII’s International President from 1999-2003 during the same time period that AOII was building the current International Headquarters facility. She followed up her many years of AOII volunteer service on committees and boards with a transition in 2003 to become AOII’s Delegate to the National Panhellenic Conference. In 2017, Carole began an unprecedented two term role as NPC Chairman and led the conference through challenging issues and structural change. Carole is a member of the Foundation Founders Circle giving level, the 1897 and Keystone Societies, and has a named scholarship. She is also a recipient of the Helen St. Clair Mullen Award. She worked diligently as a member of the Archives Capital Campaign Committee and her eff orts proved vital to the success of the overall campaign. Carole and her husband, Buddy, live in Madison, Alabama where she is a member of the Huntsville Alumnae Chapter. They love spending time with their daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters. At the museum grand opening, Carole shared, “We built our beautiful headquarters when I served as International President, and we were intentional about showcasing our archives at that time. Now, 23 years later, through the generous contributions of all of you, we have been able to expand and modernize AOII’s history for our members and guests to enjoy. What a wonderful tribute to our past and present leaders, award winners and collegiate chapters. Most importantly, what a wonderful tribute to our four Founders. I believe they would be in awe!”

Sisters, Recently, we had a unique opportunity to focus on our past. We celebrated the 125th anniversary of AOII's founding by conceptualizing, creating and opening our new Archives Museum. Through this commemoration of our history, we have also been given a glimpse into the potential of our future. Our founders themselves often thought about the future they were creating for each of us, and we are all better for their vision. In Stella’s words, “I will say that, if we did not foresee the future, neither did we fear it.” As we celebrate Founders’ Day and the legacy left by these four ambitious women, let us emulate their bravery and foresight and look toward the Fraternity’s future. By their example, we are shown the possibility of what our Fraternity could be if we continue to progress into our future, as one sisterhood bonded by friendship and fueled by love. Rather than thinking of Founders’ Day as happening only once a year, let us imagine that AOII is founded in small ways every single day. Every time you welcome a new member into our sisterhood, AOII is founded. Every time you gather together to support a sister, AOII is founded. Every time you participate in a philanthropy event, celebrate a milestone in a sister’s life or embrace a friend in need, AOII is founded. Stella said, “You are all founders of Alpha Omicron Pi today, quite as truly as we were in the beginning.” So, on this day when we honor our founders, let us honor each other as well, as sisters, as women and, most importantly, as the ongoing founders of Alpha Omicron Pi! Fraternally, 2023-2025 Executive Board Susan Bonifield, Nu Beta, International President Lacey Bowman, Chi Delta, International Vice President of Finance Jaynellen Behre Jenkins, Phi Beta, International Vice President Ashley Barnes Dumat, Rho Omicron, International Vice President Dr. Shokooh Miry, Sigma, International Vice President Ally Rodriguez, Xi, International Vice President Chantel Schieffer, Alpha Phi, International Vice President Carey Unger, Nu Omicron, International Vice President 2024 FOUNDERS' DAY MESSAGE 30 | Fall 2023

Sisters, As we enter a new year, we have new reasons to unite as AOII sisters to support those in need. Our sisterhood is a safe space where we bring our best and support each other at our worst. Just as we have pledged ourselves to serve Alpha Omicron Pi forever, we have pledged to serve one another forever. Our common bond assures us that we will always have a friend when we are in need. When you think of the Ruby Fund, think of a sister who shared the following: “Your kindness and generosity have had a profound impact on my life. Receiving the Ruby Fund aid has relieved a significant burden and allowed me to focus more on my academic pursuits and personal growth. I am committed to giving back to the community and helping others just as you have helped me.” For more than 75 years, the Ruby Fund has provided a lifeline to sisters in need with emergency grants to help them in times of desperate hardship. From our first ever recipient, Founder Stella George Stern Perry, to recipients of past, present, and future, sisters have been granted hundreds of thousands of dollars to help them through times of struggle and uncertainty. In 2023 alone, more than $33,000 was granted to help sisters to persevere through critical illness, natural disasters, crisis situations and beyond. As our membership grows, so does the need to remember and grow our Ruby Fund. It is our hope that as AOIIs, we can lean on one another and the Ruby Fund as a reminder of our commitment to serving others. This Founders’ Day, we ask you to remember the Ruby Fund and give to sisters in need to afford them help and hope during the most difficult seasons of life. Thank you for spreading Alpha Love through your support of the Ruby Fund.
