เกลด็ ขนาดเลก็ เปน แบบมขี อบนอกเปน หนามขนาดเลก็ (ctenoid) หรอื มหี นามแขง็ (ciliated
scales) ปากเลก็ เปด ในตาํ แหนงดา นหนา ยืดหดไดดี เมื่อยดื ออกสว นปากจะชล้ี งดา นลาง
มีหนามขนาดเล็กท่ีมีปลายชี้ไปดานหนา (procumbent spine) บริเวณหนาครีบหลัง
ครบี หลงั มรี อยเวา แยกระหวา งครบี หลงั สว นหนา ทเ่ี ปน กา นครบี แขง็ และครบี หลงั สว นหลงั
เปนกานครีบออนท่ีแตกแขนง ครีบอกเปนรูปเคียว (falcate) ท่ีมีความยาวมาก โดยมี
จุดสิ้นสุดท่ีคอดหาง ปลาในวงศน้ีมีพื้นลําตัวเปนสีเทาเหลือบเงิน มีจุดสีดําบริเวณลําตัว
มชี อ่ื เรยี กทว่ั ไปวา ปลาหชู า ง ปลาแมลงปอ เปน ปลาทพ่ี บสมาํ่ เสมอ มกี ารแพรก ระจายทว่ั ไป

เปน ปลาขนาดปานกลาง มลี าํ ตวั สนั้ เปน รปู ไขจ นถงึ กลม (orbicular) หรอื รปู สเ่ี หลยี่ ม
ขนมเปยกปูนที่แบนขางมาก สวนหัวคอนขางเล็ก มีความยาวนอยกวาคร่ึงหน่ึงของ
ความลกึ ลาํ ตวั ตอนหนา ของหวั ไมม เี กลด็ ปกคลมุ ปากขนาดเลก็ ยดื หดไมไ ด ขากรรไกรยาว
ไมถึงแนวเสนตรงที่ลากผานขอบหลังตา เกล็ดแบบมีขอบหนาม (ctenoid) ขนาดเล็ก
หรือขนาดปานกลาง ครีบหลังและครีบกนมีกานครีบ กานแรกยกสูงข้ึน ครีบหูส้ัน
และกลม ครีบทองยาวปลายแหลม ครีบหางแบบ double emarginated ปลาในวงศนี้
มีพ้นื ลาํ ตวั เปน สีเทาดํา มแี ถบสีแตกตางกันไปตามชว งอายุ มีชอ่ื เรียกท่ัวไปวา ปลาหูชา ง
ปลาคลดุ เปน ปลาทพ่ี บนอ ยจากเรอื สาํ รวจ มกี ารแพรก ระจายทวั่ ไปบรเิ วณอา วไทยตอนใน

สมาชิกของปลาในวงศน้ีเปนปลาขนาดปานกลางถึงขนาดใหญ และเปนกลุม
ท่ีมีความหลากหลายของรูปรางมาก โดยสวนใหญจะมีรูปรางคอนขางยาวและแบนขาง
ลาํ ตวั ปกคลมุ ดว ยเกลด็ ยกเวน ทจ่ี ะงอยปาก มเี กลด็ เปน แบบขอบนอกเปน หนาม (ctenoid)
ที่ติดแนนกับลําตัว หรือแบบ ciliated scales สวนมากปากจะเปดในตําแหนงดานหนา
แตมีบางชนิดมีปากเปดในตําแหนงดานลาง ปากกวางยืดหดไดเล็กนอย มีฟนเข้ียว
สวนหัวมีรูที่เปนปลายเปดของเสนประสาทโดยจะพบบริเวณจะงอยปาก บางสกุลอาจมี
หนวดใตคาง เสนขางตวั ยาวถงึ ปลายครบี หาง กระเพาะลมมรี ปู รา งหลายแบบ ครบี หลงั
มสี องตอนแยกจากกนั ดว ยรอ งลกึ ครบี หลงั ตอนแรกเปน กา นครบี แขง็ ครบี หลงั ตอนทส่ี อง
เปนกานครีบออนที่แตกแขนง ครีบกนมีกานครีบแข็ง 1–2 กาน ครีบหางกลมหรือ
เปนรูปสี่เหลี่ยมขนมเปยกปูน ปลาในวงศน้ีมีพื้นลําตัวเปนสีเทาดํา มีช่ือเรียกทั่วไปวา
ปลาจวด ปลาเมี้ยน เปนปลาที่พบสม่ําเสมอบริเวณพื้นทองนํ้าท่ีเปนโคลนปนทราย
มีการแพรกระจายทั่วไปบริเวณอาวไทยตอนใน พบ 6 สกลุ 11 ชนิด

เปน รูปกรวยที่มปี ลายแหลม ปากมขี นาดเล็กและเปด ในตาํ แหนง ดา นหนา ปากยดื หดได
ปานกลาง ฟน บนขากรรไกรมขี นาดเลก็ และมลี กั ษณะเปน แถบ ขอบบนของกระดกู กระพงุ แกม
มหี นามแขง็ ชอ งเปด เหงอื กกวา ง เกลด็ แบบมขี อบหนาม (ctenoid) ขนาดเลก็ เสน ขา งลาํ ตวั
ยาวไมถ งึ ปลายหางและโคง เลก็ นอ ยในตอนหนา ของแนวเกลด็ ครบี หลงั สองตอนแยกจากกนั
ครีบหลังอันแรกมีกานครีบแข็ง 9–12 กาน ครีบหลังตอนท่ีสองมีกานครีบแข็ง 1 กาน
และมีกานครบี ออนทแ่ี ตกแขนง 16–27 กา น ครีบหแู ละครบี ทองมขี นาดเลก็ ครีบกน ยาว

เปนปลาขนาดปานกลางอยูรวมกันเปนฝูง มีลําตัวคอนขางยาวและแบนขาง
ปากเปดออกทางดานหนามีขนาดเล็กหรือขนาดปานกลาง สามารถยืดหดได ฟนบน
ขากรรไกรเปนแบบฟนเข้ียวโดยเฉพาะฟนท่ีอยูดานหนาของขากรรไกร บริเวณหนาตา
ไมม เี กลด็ มเี กลด็ ขนาดปานกลางและเปน แบบทม่ี ขี อบนอกเปน หนามขนาดเลก็ (ctenoid)
มีครีบหลังตอนเดียวยาว ตอนหนาเปนกานครีบแข็งท่ีมีความยืดหยุน จํานวน 10 กาน
ครีบหูและครบี ทองมขี นาดเลก็ ครีบกน คอ นขา งยาว ประกอบดวย กา นครีบแข็ง 3 กา น
และกา นครบี ออ น 7–8 กาน ครบี หางเปน แบบเวา ลึก (fork) หรอื เวา ตืน้ (emarginated)
ปลาในวงศน้ีมีพ้ืนลําตัวเปนสีแดงอมมวงหรือชมพูเขม บางชนิดมีสีเทา มีจุดและแถบสี

แบบปอมถงึ คอนขางยาวและแบนขา งปานกลาง สวนหวั มคี วามลาดชันมาก จะงอยปาก
คอ นขางแหลม มีเกล็ดขนาดปานกลางเปน แบบที่มขี อบหลงั เปน หนาม (ctenoid) สว นหวั
ไมมีเกลด็ ยกเวน ทบี่ รเิ วณกระดกู แผน ปดเหงอื ก (opercle) และบรเิ วณตน คอ ขากรรไกร
มฟี นหลายแบบ ไดแ ก ฟนเข้ยี ว ฟน สวนหนา เปน แบบขนแปรง (cardiform) ฟนท่ีบรเิ วณ

เปนปลาขนาดเล็กท่ีมีลําตัวกลมคลายลูกบอลหรือแบนขางเล็กนอย สวนหัวและ
ลําตัวปกคลุมดวยเกล็ดที่เปลี่ยนรูปไปเปนหนามขนาดเล็ก (asterities) หรือในบางชนิด
ไมมีเกล็ด ชองเปดเหงือกกลมมีขนาดเล็กอยูทางดานลางหรืออยูทางดานหลังของครีบหู
ปากเฉียงและมีขนาดใหญ ขากรรไกรบนติดกับจะงอยปาก ขากรรไกรลางยืดหดได
ฟนบนขากรรไกรคมปลายแหลมโคง ครีบหลังตอนแรกมีกานครีบแยกจากกัน 3 กาน
กานครีบหลังกานแรกแยกจากครีบอื่น ๆ อยูบริเวณดานหนาของตา มีลักษณะเปนเสน
และกวดั แกวง ไดค ลา ยคนั เบด็ สามารถยดื หดไดเ พอื่ การลอ เหยอ่ื เรยี กวา illicium สว นปลาย
เปนเนื้อเย่ือลักษณะเปนแผนหรือเปนกระจุก เรียกวา esca ทําหนาที่เปนเหย่ือลอ

ที่ยื่นยาว ฟนท่ีอยูแถวนอกของขากรรไกรท้ังสองเปนแบบฟนตัด ในขณะท่ีแถวดานใน
เปนแบบฟนบด เกล็ดขนาดเล็ก แข็ง ครีบหลังสองตอน โดยตอนแรกเปนกานครีบแข็ง

ครีบหาง ตัวเกราะประกอบดวย แผนเกล็ดที่เปนรูปหกเหลี่ยม ปากเล็กมีริมฝปากยื่น
ฟน ไมเ ชอ่ื มตดิ กนั ชอ งเปด เหงอื กขนาดปกตอิ ยดู า นหนา ฐานครบี หู มคี รบี หลงั ตอนเดยี วสน้ั

และแบนขางมาก เกล็ดมีขนาดเล็กและมีหนามขนาดเล็กยื่นออกมา ทําใหรูสึกสากมือ
เมื่อสัมผัส ปากเล็กเปดออกทางดานหนาและไมสามารถยืดหดได ฟนบนขากรรไกร
มขี นาดเลก็ และไมเ ชอ่ื มตดิ กนั ชอ งเปด เหงอื กขนาดเลก็ อยทู ฐี่ านครบี หู ครบี หลงั สองตอน
โดยตอนแรกมกี า นครบี แขง็ 2 กา น กา นแรกแขง็ และมขี นาดใหญท สี่ ดุ กา นทส่ี องมขี นาดเลก็
และตดิ กบั กา นแรก ครบี หขู นาดเลก็ ครบี ทอ งมกี ระดกู ตอนตน ลดรปู ลง ในขณะทกี่ า นครบี
ตอนทายเชอ่ื มรวมกนั และย่นื พนผวิ หนงั ออกมา บางชนดิ สามารถขยบั ไปมาได โดยจะมี
แผนหนังที่ยึดติดกับลําตัว เรียกวา pelvic shield ครีบกนยาว ครีบหางตัดตรง หรือ
โคงเปนรูปพัด หรือมีปลายแหลม ปลาในวงศนี้มีสีพื้นลําตัวท่ีหลากหลายตั้งแตสีซีด
ไปจนถึงสีนํ้าตาลออน น้ําตาลอมแดง หรือนํ้าตาลอมเขียว มีสีสัน จุดสี และแถบสี
แตกตา งกนั ไปตามชนดิ ปลา มชี อ่ื เรยี กทว่ั ไปวา ปลาววั ปลาใบไผ เปน ปลาทพ่ี บสมา่ํ เสมอ

และกลมมน มฟี น ขนาดใหญแ ขง็ แรงเชอ่ื มตดิ กนั ลกั ษณะคลา ยจะงอยปากนกโดยมรี อ งแยก
ระหวางกลางทงั้ ฟน บนและฟน ลา ง แบง เปน 4 ซ่ี ชองเปด เหงือกมีขนาดเลก็ อยูดา นหนา
ครบี หู ผวิ หนงั มหี นามขนาดเลก็ ปกคลมุ บางสว น ครบี หลงั ไมม กี า นครบี แขง็ ครบี หขู นาดเลก็
ไมมีครีบทอง ครีบหางแบบตัดตรงหรือเวาเล็กนอย หรือเปนแบบกลม ปลาในวงศนี้
มีสพี ้นื ลําตวั ที่หลากหลาย ทั้งสีขาวอมเทา สเี ขยี วอมเหลอื ง มลี วดลาย จุดสี และแถบสี
แตกตา งกนั ไปตามชนดิ ปลา มชี อื่ เรยี กทว่ั ไปวา ปลาปก เปา ปลาปก เปา หนา หมา บางชนดิ
พบสมํา่ เสมอ บางชนดิ พบคอนขา งนอย มกี ารแพรก ระจายทั่วไปบริเวณอา วไทยตอนใน
พบ 4 สกุล 6 ชนิด
