“Unite and Work for Progress”

Mission Statement

We believe that each child is capable of learning and that there is a place in life for everyone. Cambridge
High School will attempt to create an atmosphere conducive to learning so that the all-round education of

its students will be realized.

Acknowledgement

Cambridge High School is proud to present to you this Year Book featuring the 2022 class of school
leavers. We are grateful to all the students and teachers who have contributed to this production.
The quality of educational provision ultimately depends on the teachers; the ones who interpret the

classroom conditions and instill the new values needed to address challenges presented in the
community in which they and their pupils live and work.

As our students enter the world of work, we trust they will reflect on the time spent at Cambridge High
School, realizing that each day provided them with special opportunities to develop physically,
spiritually, intellectually and aesthetically.

Good luck to you all and keep Cambridge High School in your hearts always, as we continue to “Unite and
Work for Progress”.

Message from the Incoming Board Chairman

Congratulations and best wishes to the Graduating Class of 2022. It is
indeed an honour to share with you, this very significant milestone in your
life.

Graduation from any institution of learning is a day of rejoicing and
thanksgiving. It is the day of celebrating success through hard work and
perseverance, sacrifice and patience. It is a day of gratitude.

Let me therefore extend my heartiest gratitude to the school’s
administrators and academic staff for their commitment and dedication to
the education of our students. Hats off to the ancillary and support
personnel for your unwavering and consistent care to the staff and
students alike.

To our past students and community partners who have contributed and continue to contribute invaluable time,
talent and money to our beloved institution, your generous contributions have made a significant impact on the
students, the teachers and the school.

I must hasten to bundle praises on the parents who, in recognition of the value of education, have given their all
in order to send your children to school. But perhaps of most importance, I would like to salute the graduates for
the perseverance, discipline and hard work that you put in your studies during the ensuing years at Cambridge
High School.

This is indeed a new milestone in your live as it brings down the curtain of your high school years. It also marks
a new beginning; an entry into the realm of adulthood. Now, as you seek to pursue your own career path and
register your contribution to the growth and development of our country, I wish you joy and success in all your
future endeavours.

Well done and congratulations to all!

“Unite and Work for Progress”

Message from the Principal

It is an undeniable fact that a river starts in the mountains and ends at the sea.
However, the journey is not without obstacles. At times it must create a new
path to get to its destination. Other times it is forced underground, or must
break through great barriers. Notwithstanding the challenges, the river will
reach the sea.

Like the river, the Class of 2022 had to overcome tremendous challenges to
get to this point. Some came close to the point of giving up but was fuelled
by forces greater than themselves. You did not yield to forces meant to
stagnate your growth or demoralize your efforts. Instead, you embraced and
accepted that you are “more than a conqueror”. Therefore, I congratulate
you on achieving this milestone that will propel you to greater things in the

future.

However, I hasten to remind you that your success so far was not only of your own doing. There were
individuals who invested time, money, energy and hope towards your dreams. They came in the form of
parents, relatives, teachers and well-wishers. These individuals recognized the promise in you. Sometimes, even
before you recognized the promise in yourself. They are to be commended for their hard work, commitment and
determination that ensured that you reach this milestone.

I implore you to learn the lessons offered by the river. Firstly, do not allow anything or anyone to stop your
progress. Use the force of your determination to rise above challenges, to go through difficulties and to go
around obstacles. Secondly, just as the river brings life, improvement and progress wherever it sojourn, so too
should you. You should never be satisfied with just existing, but endeavour to be the source of growth and
development. Your life and work must enrich the life and work of others.

I wish you all the success in the next chapter of your life.

Harry Hanson

“Unite and Work for Progress”

Message from the Vice-Principal of Academic Affair

Dear Class of 2022,

“The only impossible journey is the one you never begin.”-Anthony Robbins

My heartiest congratulations go out to you all on completing another important
milestone in your learning journey. I hope your experience at Cambridge High School
has been one of self-discovery, transformation and achievement of goals. Graduation
signifies the start of a new chapter of your life. Wherever your path leads you next, I
believe that your time here has prepared you well for the new challenges ahead.

Coping with challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic has not been easy.
During this period, many of the activities you had participated in faced tremendous
disruptions. It has certainly taught you resilience. I encourage you this day, to never
shy away from the challenges of life. Never give up on chasing your dreams. I challenge you to embrace
challenges as you progress. Continue to seize opportunities to learn, grow, innovate, adapt and be resilient.
Whatever you choose to do next, remember that learning is a lifelong journey.

Let me also take the opportunity to further congratulate you for having completed the lifelong skills and
academic programmes offered here at Cambridge High School. Learning is a continuous and rewarding journey.
Your commitment to lifelong learning has led to your success and I am confident that all you have acquired will
help you to stay relevant in today’s ever changing world.

Your time has come! So take these six guiding principles with you as you blaze your own trails on this ride
called life:

 Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy today; the here and the now.
 Spend your time doing what you should do. This leaves no room for you to do what you shouldn't do.
 Be the person you thought you would be when you were younger.
 There is no one definition of success.
 Remember to love learning for the sake of learning and not for the accumulation of points.
 You will have a greater appreciation of your high school experience the older you get.

Go forth and embrace your future with open arms, and enthusiastically pursue your own life- journey of

discovery. Render dedicated service to humanity and live a happy and peaceful life. Believe in yourself and the

world will be yours.

Mrs. Tricia Duncan-Brown

“Unite and Work for Progress”

Message from the Vice-Principal of Students’ Affairs

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the
world” as stated by Nelson Mandela.

It is indeed a pleasure to write this message congratulating Cambridge High
School’s Graduating Class of 2022 for your achievement. As you transition to the
next chapter of your educational development, I want you to know that every
success should be celebrated. You have all persevered and made sacrifices which
have seen you complete this part of your journey. The knowledge you have
gained will serve you well, as there are even greater challenges which lie ahead.

Shawn Anchor purports, “The most successful people see adversity not as a stumbling block, but as a
stepping stone to greatness.” The past few years have brought with it great obstacles. The pandemic has forced
us to make drastic changes in our way of life. You stood the course while you adapted to the online modality of
teaching and learning, knowing the value that education has to play in your life. Some of you would have
experienced difficulties with internet connectivity, insufficient funds and even inadequate data or device issues
just to mention a few. The Cambridge High School family is proud to have had you as part of this noble
institution. Remember to always “Unite and work for Progress” as you venture into the wider society. Believe
in your dreams.

Believe in your ability to overcome any obstacles. I wish you all the best on your new journey. Be brave and

strong, so that despite the seeming impossibilities waiting in the future, you will stay the course and never give
up on your dreams. I ask that you be guided by these words from Bob Riley, “Hard times don’t create heroes.
It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed”.

Walk good, and may God bless you all.

Mr. Howard Haye

“Unite and Work for Progress”

Message from the Dean of Discipline

Heartiest congratulations to the newest cohort of the Cambridge High
Association of Past Students (CHAPS).

You have done it! You weathered the storms of a pandemic by riding
the waves of uncertainty and anchoring your faith in possibilities. This
milestone of yours is particularly outstanding as you have demonstrated
that the greatness within will always overpowers daunting externalities.
You all had unique challenges that you have had to overcome. This is
proof enough that, with the right mindset, no mountain is
insurmountable. This graduation, will be etched in the hall of your
memory, as not only a transitional phase in your high school journey,
but more so, a celebration of perseverance, resilience and admirable tenacity.

Undeniably, this world, as we have known it, has changed on all levels. However, notwithstanding present and
future obstacles, your achievement to date has inspired and emboldened others to aim high and win
resoundingly.

Your victory today is not only yours. As you don the blue and yellow of Cambridge High School, you are lifting
your trophy on behalf of your parents, guardians, relatives, teachers and well wishers who have provided
invaluable and undying support.

As you continue on this path, know that I am proud of you and will continue to believe in you as you soar to
higher heights. You are now at the starting blocks for greater, brighter and better dreams.

As you move forward in this race of life, take with you the morals and values that you have learnt during your
tenure at Cambridge High School. Remember, in the words of Jim Rohn, that “discipline is the bridge between
goals and accomplishment.” Put God first in all you do, give the world the best version of you, and know that
the future is yours for the taking.

In conclusion, graduates of 2022, I bid you farewell, but not goodbye. We are always here to provide the
resources and guidance that you may require, as you continue to forge ahead.
I wish you success in all areas of your life and may God bless you on your journey of excellence.

Miss Primrose Barnett

“Unite and Work for Progress”

Message from the Dean of Academic Affairs

It has been a pleasure to serve this committed and resolute group of students.
You have persevered through the heights of this Covid-19 pandemic and stuck
to the task at hand, amidst the struggles of the virtual classroom. You
epitomized Nelson Mandela’s school of thought that concluded “It always
seems impossible until it’s done”. Well, you did it!
Through it all you understood the assignment and stood tall in the academic
arena as the cohort with the most students represented in our most recent Top
Academic Students’ Award function.
I applaud your grit and effort in fighting against the odds. I charge you to go forth into the world with the aim
and drive to build on these powerful characteristics.
I implore you, as you continue on this pathway to “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never
cease to grow.” Anthony J. D’Angelo
May God bless you as you turn the page to the next chapter in your life. “Always be a first-rate version of
yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else” Judy Garland. I wish you success.

“Unite and Work for Progress”

Message from the Work Experience Coordinator&
Grade 11 Coordinator

"Ignore the noise, focus and execute” has been our guiding mantra over the last
nine months, as we skillfully navigated a multiplicity of hurdles. We stood our

ground and through daily affirmations and motivational speeches we centered our
energy and efforts into accomplishing our set goals. Undoubtedly, this was no
easy feat. The prevailing and relentless Covid-19 virus compounded by lack of
resources, self-doubt and trepidation all worked to derail our efforts. However,

knowing that we had much to prove, we doubled our efforts at achieving success.
While a few students who started the journey in September were not able to
complete the course, the majority withstood the test and will be celebrated for
having defied the odds and prevailing against all the distractions that they faced.
Like many before, they will be able to say with pride, "I did it!" Congratulations
Class of 2022! You have worked hard and have earned the coveted label of "High School Graduate." You may
have struggled to get to this point, but regardless you are here. The quotes, "if it doesn't kill you, it will make
you stronger” and "di struggle only mek mi betta" feature prominently in your journey, as I'm certain that you
have learnt a lot from the obstacles faced and conquered this year. Take these experiences with you as building
blocks for your future ventures. I implore you to not limit yourself. Continue to work hard. Continue to disrupt
the status quo. Continue to change the game in your favour. You have the ability to do it. You are capable of
defining your destiny and achieving greatness. For those students who did not make it to this point, do not allow
this to define you, or your future efforts. Regroup, apply yourself, learn from your mistakes and achieve the
greatness that you are destined for.
Over the past nine months I have not only been your Grade Coordinator, but your loudest cheerleader, your
constant motivator, your guide, your source of strength and your friend. This will not end today. As you seek
new paths I will continue to extend my support for as long as it is required.

A huge thank you to all the members of Team Grade 11. Cooperatively, we poured into our students and

moulded them into the success stories that they are today. I publicly applaud your dedication and commitment

to what many would deem a daunting task. You embraced the challenge and today we celebrate.

Graduates of 2022, the world is yours to claim and conquer. Do not be deterred. Go forth and claim your space.

Be the game changer you are destined to be. Janice Clarke Russell

“Unite and Work for Progress”

Message from the Head Boy

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream. Not
only plan, but also believe that we can do it. Well, we have done it! We
the graduating class of 2022 have achieved a major milestone in our
lives that a lot of our parents have not; high school graduation. This
represents a major step in the journey of our lives, one that should be
recognized for its immense significance. It is an act not only of personal
commitment, but also one of perseverance and pride. Life is filled with
numerous challenges, but with determination, perseverance, and unity
we can confront them and achieve our goals. Little did the world know
that we would have survived the Covid-19 pandemic, as we
experienced unprecedented economic conditions, social conditions and
major adjustments to the traditional teaching and learning process. But
as human being we adopted, we had a dream, and we took necessary
steps to traverse the then alien online learning environment.
To students who will remain at this noble institution, continue to
believe and know that the scope of your greatness is beyond this world,
as you are a child of God. To our parents and guardians, thank you for supporting us in more ways than is
possible to count. To the teachers and administrators of Cambridge High School, thank you for so unselfishly
sharing your time, talents and knowledge with us. Yes, we know it was your job to do it, but what you did went
beyond the call of duty. You set the bar high and challenged us to believe in ourselves and live up to it.

To the graduating class, I challenge you to forge ahead and never give up on your dreams even when no one
else believes in you. The world is there for the taking, so take it. We have just completed a phase of the journey
to success. Let us remember that success is not a destination but a journey that can be achieved as we continue
as citizens to “Unite and Work for Progress” as positive nation builders.

“Unite and Work for Progress”

Message from the Head Girl

It was said by John Quincy Adams that, “If your actions inspire others
to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a
leader.”

We are now at the end of what has been a truly remarkable and
splendid year. This noble institution has molded us into symbols of
academic success and achievement. Cambridge High School has not
only shown me the true meaning of discipline, love, simplicity, honesty
and respect but it has also given me countless opportunities to serve as
a positive role model to hundreds of young ladies.

This past year has been a rollercoaster ride for everyone, as we juggled
the uncertainty of the pandemic, school and our personal lives. We
were thrusted into the virtual space for all forms of interactions.
However, after two years of staying inside, going to school and
performing my duties as Head Girl in a virtual space, I can confidently
say we made it, although some of us barely trudged past the finish line.

This year my relationship with God intensified immensely and he is the driving force which aided me in being a
worthy Head Girl to you all. We may not have an outright answer as to why we were hit with COVID-19, but
one thing we do know is that we all have persevered and adapted to these changes. Whether or not our school is
in the most favourable position, there are some definite things that we can always look towards as students of
Cambridge High: God, being our guiding light, and the fact that we are all devoted, hardworking, enthusiastic
soldiers who can combat all forces that tend to undermine us and our institution. As our motto clearly states, we
will continue to "Unite and Work for Progress". I am proud to be an alumnus for my school. I am also proud
to say the years that I have spent at this institution have been the best years of my life. Congratulations to the
class of 2022! May God continue to direct our paths.
