The aim of RBI is to bring inflation down to at least 6%, the tolerance band, by the beginning of the next financial year. In any case the Repo rate has come to pre pandemic levels and only reflects the fact that the accommodative stance of RBI to weather the huge challenges due to Covid is being wound down. It is extremely important to control inflation while ensuring that growth impulses are sustained. Liquidity continues to be comfortable and banks have seen a healthy credit growth of 14%. RBI’s current growth projection is 7.2% for the year which is extremely healthy considering the volatile situation in global markets, fears of recession and the impact of war in Ukraine.
