SOM STREET. BTB:r.Y I'UBKISIIBD.

No. 3, BRIDGE STREET. H. BALDWD & UOJIPANY, PROPRIETORS. Tn1s Establishment was opened in October, 1842, for the Sale of Choice Rich-Fla\·oured TEAS, COFFEES, SPICES, &c., of the finest Importations, with numerous Articles of indispensable use, at Prices from 25 to f)O per Cent. lower than those usually paid by Families and Visiters. Since their commencement, their exertions have been crowned with success, which they most thankfully acknowledge, and which will stimulate their future endeavours for the public benefit and increased patronage. The above Premises were the nearest to the Market Place at that time to be obtained ; and as a proof that such an Establishment was greatly needed in this City, Two "Licensed Dealers in Tea" are actually renting Four Shops, in central situations, to prevent Competition from any other Estabiishment. The Visiters to Bath will therefore be amply repaid by turning three doors from the main Market thoroughfare down Bridge Street to pay a visit to this Establishment, where the first Advantages in the Trade will continue to be offered to the Nobility, Gentry, Visiters of Bath, and the Public generally. To quote Prices here would be useless, as the Markets are continually fluctuating; and their system adopted is, to charge, at all times, the smallest remunerating Profit upon the .Market value. A List of Prices, of every Article, forwarded, or Families waited upon regularly for Orders, as may be requested . • COFFEES ROASTED, almost Daily, on their Premists, under the Proprietors' own Inspection . • BATH; 1st January, 1846.

These Candles are of very superior quality; Purchasers may distinguish them by the absence of that disagreeably rancid smell so objectionable to many, and also hy the unusually clear and white appearance which they have when newly made. They are not whitened in the ordinary manner by storing, which is so well known to deteriorate the quality of the Tallow; neither have they the slightest tinge of green, being perfectly free from verdigrts, as also from arsenic, and every other of those deleterious ingredients which are so frequently introduced into Candles: some to conceal the objectionable colour which such Candles would otherwise have when new, and others to give additional consistency to weak or greasy tallow. TilE BATH EAST Al1l XORTH W !LCOT DISPEXSlRY, IIGl3Y131&A:HD lfl&AC13~ NEAR BATHWICK BRIDGE. To relieve the numerous Applications of the Sick Poor, an elegant new Bu1lding has been erected, on a novel and most convenient arrangement. The object of this useful and much-required Institution is to afford Medical and Surgical Aid to the necessitous from any district in the neighbourhood of Bath; and to provide attendance at their own homes, wherever requisite, to such Patients as reside in the Visiting Districts. Since 1829, a Dispensary, under the above title, has existed; from which period the claims upon its services have been annually increasing, and at length induced the Committee to erect the building under notice. The Professional Duties are conducted by three Physicians, three Surgeons, and a resident Apothecary. Its internal arrangements are most complete for the purposes intended : Classification of the Patients Economy of Time and an easy Oversight, by the Apothecary, of all the Patients. The main feature of the Institution is, an early attention to the Disorders of the Poor, at their own homes ; and thus preventing the Sick (in many cases the heads of families) from being removed from their connexions at a time when the sympathising attentions of relatives are the most valuable. Accommodation for In-Patients does not come within the scope of this Charity. To clear off the necessary Outlay of the Building, and to support the Establishment, presents peculiar claim to the assistance and benevolence of the Public. A Donation of £10, or upwards, will constitute a Life Governor, and give the privileges of Tickets and Voting. Annual Subscribers of £1. Is. can have thr~e Patients always on the Books, and one Vote at Elections. Donations and Subscriptions will be thankfully received at the Banks and Libraries; by the Treasurer, the Medical Officers, the Committee, and the Collector.

I LJ:rll DBPAB.T:MilNT. THE important advantages, offered by the plan and constitution of the Life Department of this Society, are: That Insurers at·e protected by a large invested Capital upon which there is no Interest to pay, and for which no deduction of any kind is made: which enables the Directors to give the whole of the profits to Insuring Members. That the profits are divided annually amongst alll\Iembers of fh·e years' standing, and applied towards reducing Life Insurance to the lowest possible Rates of Premium, the abatement for the years 1842, 1843, and 1844, being at the rate of £45 per cent., and for the year 1845, £50 per cent.; that is, a Policy taken out on or before-the 24th of June, 1840, at an Annual Premium of £100, will be charged £50 as this year's Premium ; and it is expected that an equal abatement will in future be annually made. That persons insuring their own lives, or the lives of others, may become Members. That persons who are willing to forego participation in the profits, can insure at a lower rate than that chal'ged to Members. The business of the Society comprises not only Insurances on Lives, but also the granting of Immediate, Deferred, and Contingent Annuities, either by Single or Annual Pavments. - The following Table will show the effect of the . DISEASED & HEALTHY LIVES ASS1JRED. ll!\rbital, ~nbalil1, anb ~cncta11Life ®fficc, 25, PALL MALL, LONDON, and STREET, DUBLIN. 22, NASSAU SUBSCB.IBED CAPITAL, 500,000. THIS Office was established in 1841, and possesses Tables formed on a IJCientific basis for the Assurance of Diseased Lit•es. The urgent necessity for an Institution like the present may be estimated by the statement, that two-thirds of the Population are not assurable as Healthy Lives; and that about one in five of the Applicants to other Offices is declined on examination. Of the proposals accepted by this Society, during the last three years, nearly 300 had been rejected among upwards of 80 other Offices. These Cases came under the class of the most prevalent diseases; and the various Parties could not have participated in the advantages of Life Assurance had not this Society been in existence, as it is the only one possessing Tabulated Rates of Premium deduced from extensive data. Premiums have been determined for the Assurance of Persons at every Age, among those affi.icted with Consumption, Asthma, Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Disease of the Heart, Apoplexy, Paralysis, Epilepsy, Insanity, Disease of the Liver, Dropsy, Scrofula, Gout, Rheumatism, &c. These circumstances induce the Directors to believe, that, by the establishment of this Office, they have conferred an important benefit upon those whose condition made such a provision as Assurance necessary ; and they are therefore led to expect a powerful support from the Public. Increased Annuities are granted on Unsonnd Lives. • MR. WILLIAM F<)RTT, ~onftttiontr, No. 5, MILSOM STREET, rll CB ~ rltP fl lJ+ ® llt l!J rll fl!Jl Q AsAM (commonly called "Assam,") is a cqlony of growing importance, which, in a geographical and geological sense, will rank among the most interesting of our British Possessions. · We might call the attention of the reader to the continuous improvements o{ this province, under the auspices of the f• Asam Company ;" but, as it is not so much our object to dwell upon the recommendations of the Colony, in a general sense, as to touch upon one particula1' feature, we shall, at once, point out that source of agricultural production to which the exertions and capital of the f~ .llsam Tea Company" are especially devoted. The Public may not be ge11erally cognizant of .the fact, that Asam is distinguished for the production of a selfpeculiar and indigenous species of Tea Plant. This discovery, it is said, deserves to be c1assed with the most important colonial acquisitions; and when we take into consideration the surpassing qualities of the A.sam Tea Plant, we are necessarily bound to acquiesce in this opinion. Let it be distinctly understood, that this species of Tea possesses isolated 'Virtues; (i. e.), virtues apart from, and superior to, any other leaf. Even in a wild state, this Tea is fouud to possess strength and exquisite peculiarity of flavour, unapproachable by plants grown in any of the Chinese provinces; which properties would, of course, 'be infinitely improved by the hand of cultivation. Such is the surprising strength of the Asam Tea, that one pound is proved to be equal, in use, to two pounds of the Tea ordinarily consumed. From this it will be seen, that, besides the invaluable qualities of the Asam Tea, there is an economy attendant on its consumption, which must necessarily render it a domestic acquisition of twofold advantage. The Public have not hitherto bad an opportunity of

[Continued.] testing the excellence of this admirable leaf; or, rather, they have not been able to procure it without considerable trouble and expense. But the "Asam Tea Company" (formed, as it is, for the special and exclusive purpose of furnishing the Public, by Agency, &c., with this superior Article,) have entered into such arrangements as will remove every obstacle in the way of the Public realising this invaluable and delicious luxury in Tea. Any additional remarks would be superfluous. The Company depend for the success of their speculations solely on the peculiar and intrinsic qualities of the Asam Tea, which they furnish in a pure, genuine, and unadulterated state. The Business of the Company is conducted at 11, CROOKED LANE, King William Street, City ; where Applications and Communications will be duly and promptly attended to. DLAOB., 5s. Od. per Pound.
