This program will contain fun and meaningful activities to promote fellowship and leadership, along with a physical fitness session and a yoga session to improve physical and mental fitness. 217 | P a g e COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT 01 - Akhankara “ Akhankhara” is one of the signature projects of the club, conducted for the 9th consecutive year. It is a school empowerment project which satisfies educational, infrastructural, psychological and therapeutic needs of the students. This project is planned to be carried out in three phases. Phase I : Due to the prevailing pandemic situation an online webinar series on Mathematics, Science, English and History would be carried out starting from August, until the situation is reversed back to normal for students of Illukovita Kanishta Vidyalaya facing G.C.E. O/L Examination in December 2021. Once the situation is normal the seminars will be conducted physically. At the end of the webinar series, a prize-giving will be held for the students who faced the Ordinary Level Examinations last year and obtained good results, as a recognition of their hard work. Phase II : Students of Illukovita Kanishta Vidyalaya would get the opportunity to be exposed to a career development workshop. Phase III : Distributing second hand desktops, laptops and smart phones to a marginalized school. And build a library by collecting books from our faculty members. Donations will be collected in order to recondition the laptops and mobile phones needed to be distributed. WeGuide (Sub-project) : The plan is to hold an online model exams series for Science, Mathematics and English in both Sinhala and English medium for students island wide who are to face G.C.E. O/L Examination in December 2021.The students will be invigilated during the examination via Zoom and corrected papers will be distributed. Discussion sessions will be conducted after each paper. Objectives : 1.Providing Quality Education using latest technology in spite of the prevailing situation. 2.Giving them a friendly distant learning environment. 3.Giving the inspiration to choose the better path in their higher education and future career. Outcomes (Short Term) : 1.Students gaining the best learning experience during the pandemic situation. 2.Students getting a chance to cover up and clarify the basics subject matters.

219 | P a g e PROJECT 02 - Sevana This project gives a group of differently abled children, the chance to escape from the walls and wheelchairs they are confined to. The plan is for our Rotaractors to visit the differently abled children of “Sevana Special School and Child Care Center ” at Ethul Kotte to make them have a better day by engaging in simple recreational activities such as singing, talking, dancing, etc. Objectives : 1.Giving those children a memorable experience. 2.Development of teamwork skills of club members. Phase II : Events will be organized on par with special days of the four main religions such as Vesak, Ramazan, Thai Pongal, Easter. Phase III : Cultural day will be organized at the end of the article series to enhance religious understanding and to build up peace and harmony. 221 | P a g e PROJECT 04 - Arogya A health camp will be organized along with a blood donation camp in several rural villages of Sri Lanka with the aim of uplifting the health standards in the general community. A platform in order to collect donations to provide maternity packs for expecting mothers who cannot afford maternity goods, will be designed and introduced to the general community. An awareness program will be conducted for mothers and fathers who are expecting a child, on family planning, pregnancy, parenthood and proper child care Objectives : 1.Uplifting the health of rural communities with minimum access to developed health facilities. 2.Providing financial support to pregnant mothers. 3.Building up awareness on preventing unwanted pregnancies, maintaining a healthy and safe pregnancy, and providing proper child care. 4.Supporting the blood bank. Outcomes (Short term) : 1.Financial support will be provided to families with pregnant mothers undergoing difficult financial situations. 2.Villagers will be able to discover their health conditions and get treated accordingly. 223 | P a g e ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICE PROJECT 01 - Little Wings Phase I : Project "Little wings" was an initiative from last year which is being continued this year as well. An awareness post series on specific butterfly species and host plants will be posted to increase the knowledge and curiosity of the members. Phase II : The required conditions for butterflies to breed will be provided by making a butterfly garden within the University premises. Maintenance of the garden will happen throughout the year and years to come. Phase III : The plan is to collaborate with other university Rotaract clubs or Interact clubs in order to establish butterfly gardens in their university premises as well. Objectives : 1.To provide support for the various life stages of butterflies in Colombo city. 2.To make a well-managed butterfly garden to increase the butterfly species richness and abundance in the city. 3.To increase the awareness about the importance of butterflies as a part of the ecosystem. 4.To make the students more curious about nature. Outcomes (Short Term) : 1.To improve the mental and spiritual health of faculty members by watching butterflies grow. 2.To increase the ecological beauty of the premises by adding an iconic look to it. 225 | P a g e PROJECT 02 - Coastal Salvage Pollution of the marine environment is a topic of increasing concern and it has received a lot of attention recently. This threatens biodiversity, climate, and economy due deterioration of treasured locations in our country. Phase I : Project "Coastal Salvage" aims to address the consequences of marine pollution/detrimental effects to the activities, health, and survival of marine organisms and humans by conducting a webinar and an awareness post series. Phase II : As turtles are already an endangered species, in this phase activities will be organized to raise awareness and save turtles with the help of salvage companies in Sri Lanka along with a beach cleanup. Objectives : 1.Advance the knowledge on the current status of marine pollution in Sri Lanka. 2.Aware the community about the ways they can dedicate to reduce the pollution. Outcomes (Short Term) : 1.The general public will be informed about the situation with correct information. 2.Raise and gather community's innovative ideas regarding the current situation to handle and restore the coastal lines back to normal. Outcomes (Long Term) : 1.The community gets to know about the ocean pollutants and their negative ecological and economical impacts. 2.Restoration of biodiversity of marine species. 3.Spreading the idea of importance of ocean and marine population and the necessity of conserving marine ecosystems sustainably for future generations. 227 | P a g e PROJECT 03 - Greener the Better Phase I - Reforestation Reforestation consists of replanting deforested areas to restore forests destroyed in the recent past. Project "Greener the Better" anticipates planting trees in a deforested area. All the details of plants are recorded at the beginning of the project. Throughout the year the plants are being monitored and taken care of. And at the end of the Rotaract year, the condition of the remaining plants will be checked to estimate the effectiveness. Selection of land and plants will be done under the guidance of an expert of the field (hope to get the assistance from a lecturer in the University). Phase II - Roadside tree planting Planting water conserving trees along the expressway with the guidance of RDA. Plants will be well monitored and taken care of throughout the Rotaract Year. Phase III - Evaluation of the project This project will continue for three consecutive years until the trees are well established and until the objectives of the project are fulfilled in the coming Rotaract years. Throughout the project in the first year, we gather information about the pros and cons of the project (e.g. pests that are harmful to plants, growth inhibiting factors in the area to the plants etc.). Through evaluation of information, assessing reforestation success, the project will be continued further by implementing remedies to develop the project. The information we gather will be distributed among the general public and we hope to create awareness among other Rotaract clubs as well, for them to initiate similar projects. Objectives : 1.To manage the quality and distribution of wildlife habitats and contribute to the conservation of biological diversity. 2.To ensure long-term forest productivity and conservation of forest resources through prompt reforestation, soil conservation, afforestation, and other measures. 3.To inspire the community to execute more projects like these to make Sri Lanka greener. Outcomes (Short Term) : 1.Broaden the practice of sustainable forestry by inspiring the public and forestry community to participate in the commitment to sustainable forestry and publicly report progress. 2.Gain the interest of people about reforestation and learn about long term tree planting through the information we gathered. Outcomes (Long Term) : 1.Air pollution occurring due to transportation on highways will be reduced by planting trees. 2.Ensure the conservation of natural resources: water, air, soil etc. 3.Conservation of plants and animals in the wilderness protecting their habitats. We are planning to get in volunteers and collaborators from other Rotaract clubs on board in creating story books and illustrations for them. Partnerships will be built with publishing companies. Objectives : 1.Promoting the habit of reading, among underprivileged children. 2.Develop an understanding of Sri Lankan culture among foreign children. 3.Building a positive outlook on life among underprivileged children. Outcomes (Short Term) : 1.Fostering the writing skills of club members. 2.Enhance relations with various charitable institutions in other countries. 230 | P a g e PROJECT 02 - Spook-a-thon A virtual game night designed to be held on the Eve of Halloween Day through Zoom, to promote this worldwide famed cultural celebration, which is still a little unorthodox to the Sri Lankan society. Objectives : 1.Providing a valuable opportunity to our club members to bond with other clubs. 2.Boosting and popularizing an exotic International celebration within the community. 3.Promoting International understanding. 231 | P a g e PROJECT 03 - Coast to Coast Aimed at giving individuals the opportunity to travel the world, build connections, and exchange joy while at home through a prose writing competition, a pen-pal program and a gift-exchange initiative. Phase I : This will be organized as a prose competition in which the winners will be receiving a prize.. Phase II : 'Tis the Christmas" is a photography competition based on the festive season in December, focusing on the purpose of demonstrating a candid and peaceful Christmas. The plan is to build mutual understanding among communities from different countries by exchanging the perspectives of various cultures on the same festival. Sponsorships will be collected for the prizes. Phase III : This will mainly include a pen pal program in which students of our club get to interact with elders living in elders’ homes of the country of the particular club we are partnering up, by exchanging letters with them. This will span for approximately four months. The photos winning the prizes from ‘Tis’ the Christmas’ will be featured in the new year cards sent to the particular country. 233 | P a g e PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT 01 - Future Challenge The Annual Career Fair is organized by the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science, UOC with the collaboration of a multitude of leading companies in the corporate sector. This is conducted with the intention of providing our own graduates with many valuable career opportunities and entering them to the professional world with a wide range of employment. Objectives : 1.Allowing the graduates of the Faculty to interact with the the corporate sector. 2.Provision of a wide range of valuable career fields and opportunities for the graduates. 3.Providing a platform for the graduates to market themselves effectively to cultivate a professional network and engage in informational face to face interviews. 234 | P a g e Sub project under Future Challenge - Werkstatt “Werkstatt” is the workshop series conducted as a subproject under the project “Future Challenge”, the annual career fair of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo. This workshop is conducted with the collaboration of many leading companies in the corporate sector with the intention of developing the soft skills of the graduates and undergraduates of the Faculty. This workshop prepares the University students to enter the world of employment with confidence. Phase I : A Pre mock interview session will be organized along with a webinar on topics such as personal grooming, how to face an interview and how to build a resume. Phase II : A Mock interview session with candidates will be organized to give a first hand experience on facing a job interview. 237 | P a g e PROJECT 03 - WiseAdvice The plan is to hold two panel discussions with several well known individuals for students who just finished their advanced level examination and the undergraduates of our faculty, in order to provide the guidance and knowledge needed when choosing the most appropriate path for higher studies or the most successful career path. Phase I : 'WiseAdvice' is a panel discussion conducted by the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, intended to give proper guidance to science students and graduates on choosing career paths with past Rotaractors as resource persons. Phase II (Symphony) : Music is a hobby for many, but there is a misconception that it will not help you build a career. This project will contain a motivational panel discussion with professional musical personalities present as guest speakers. By the end of the project, the participants will feel much more confident in following their dreams and giving their talents a value. Objectives : 1.Providing proper guidance to the new generation who wish to pursue Science-based careers. 2.Providing an opportunity for students and graduates to join a discussion on choosing career paths, conducted by professionals in the field. 3.Increasing awareness about the future career options available for science graduates. 4.Providing proper guidance to the new generation who wish to pursue music based careers. 5.Increasing awareness about the future career options available in the music industry and helping the future of Sri Lankan music. A series of videos including the true friendship experiences of our club members and also the highlights of the Instagram live will be posted on Instagram along with an Instagram challenge to showcase friendship. Gifts will be presented to the celebrities who are joining as a token of appreciation. The plan is to obtain sponsorships for the gifts. 240 | P a g e Project 02 - SPECTRA Phase I : A project to raise awareness on Autism Spectrum Disorder through the virtual platform and physical platform as well if possible. Phase II : A cycling event, Miles Together will be organized as a phase of the project, to raise awareness on ASD as well as to raise the Public Image of the club. A holi festival reflecting the spectrum of Autism will be organized along with the cycling event. Sponsorships will be collected in order to host the event. The project would be executed as a collaboration of the IT and Editor Teams. Here, the poem content will be provided by the Editors team members while the IT team will be in charge of the post design. Objectives : 1.To improve the public awareness on the Rotary Focus Areas. 2.It also gives an opportunity for the new members to understand about the importance of Rotaract and how it impacts on the society. 3.A poetic representation is used by taking the related scenarios into account rather than just lengthy articles in order to provide the facts simply, for anyone to grasp. 4.Hopefully it could also provide a better reach to our club . The target audience was the board of RACFOSUOC and there was no collaboration with interactors November - December Board members of the Club 2 19th Installation Ceremony Club Service No The 19th Installation ceremony of RACFOSUOC was held virtually in the month of October and the spectacular event was broadcasted via Facebook live - October Rotaractors, Interactors, Rotarians 3 Reminisce Club Service No The 15th Charter Day of the club was celebrated on 7th of December 2021. To commemorate this remarkable day, project "Reminisce" was organized under 2 phases. in the first phase, Lunch packets and face masks were distributed to 150 underprivileged people who are making a living in the streets. The 2nd phase was a joyous night where past and current members of the club got together and celebrated real fellowship which was almost forgotten due to the pandemic situation. - November - December Club members 4 Aurudu with RACFOSUOC Club Service No After almost 2 years of virtual GMs, the first ever physical General Meeting with an Aurudu twist was organized by the Club service team of the club. All members got to participate in many fun-filled Aurudu games. A mouthwatering aurudu kema mesaya was arranged for all members and everyone had a great time enjoying all the good food and fun activities. - April Club members


249 | P a g e 5 Soothing Quest Club Service No This soothing hike to the mountain Hanthana was organized with the Rotaract Club of Katugasthota Region. On the way to the mountain top and all the way back, we also collected garbage and polythene residue which were left in the beautiful hiking track by our very own humans which lead these soothing environments to pollution. All members of the 2 clubs had an amazing experience and many new friendships were made. - April Club members of the 2 clubs 6 Road to Rotaract Club Service No The signature membership development and retention project of the club was organized under several phases. The first phase included a descriptive and informative post series which was shared in the WhatsApp groups of the members, so that they can get a glimpse of what our club is all about. The second phase was a fun filled online treasure hunt named "FOSxplorer" where our newly inducted members got to team up with the club oldies and play fun filled online games and activities. The final phase is the glamorous award ceremony which is happening at the end of the year to appreciate all the hard work of our members for the past whole year. This will be the perfect way to have a great time and end the year in style. - July - May Club members 7 SLAMM Club Service No This is the signature club service initiative organized by the president and secretary elects of the 5 Rotaract clubs of the University of Colombo. The project was organized as a thrilling and fun filled scavenger hunt which took place throughout the University of Colombo premises. More than 100 members from all clubs participated in this heist and it was a great place for the newly appointed elects and other members to create bonds and improve fellowship among the fellow 5 clubs. - May Rotaractors


250 | P a g e 8 Akhankara Community Service Yes “Akhankhara” is one of the signature projects of the club, conducted for the 9th consecutive year. It is a school empowerment project that takes place in Illukovita Kanishta Vidyalaya, which satisfies educational, infrastructural, psychological and therapeutic needs of the students. This project is carried out in three phases. As the phase one, online and physical seminar sessions were conducted every weekend for grade 10 and 11 students of the school covering the subjects; mathematics, science, English and history. as the second phase, a seminar session was conducted for basket subjects (ICT and Commerce) and also sample O/L question papers were discussed. As the final phase, the members of the club renovated and painted the school building and student tables and chairs. A separate phase was not dedicated for the career development workshop, but it happened as a part of the 1st phase. The idea we had for the 3rd phase was executed as a separate project named "E-Sipsara", and for Akhankara, the 3rd phase consisted of painting and renovating the school building. The subproject "WeGuide" did not take place, the model papers made for this were given to the students at Illukovita K.V. and those were discussed in the 2nd phase of the project. July - May Students of Illukovita Kanishta Vidyalaya 9 Sevana Community Service Yes This project was organized for our Rotaractors to visit the differently abled children of “Sevana Special School and Child Care Center” at Ethul Kotte to make them have a better day by engaging in simple recreational activities such as singing, talking, etc. Apart from that, essential dry rations and sanitary items were donated to the center as well. Due to health guidelines, the members were not allowed to interact with the students very closely, therefore the donation part was added to the project to help these children in these much needed times as we can December - January Students at Sevana Special School 10 E-sipsara Community Service Yes This project was organized as the rotary family project for the year. In here 2 desktop computers with a google drive that contains around 200 e-books were donated alongside a physical book drive which contained around 500 books to Gallandala Kanishta Vidyalaya which is located in a rural area in Galle district. Also essential stationary gift packs were gifted to the primary students and a seminar stressing on the importance of technology in education and how to use technology safely and properly alongside a career guidance session was conducted to the upper grade students of the school. The 3rd phase of the project Akhankara was developed, and this project was organized with the help of our rotary family clubs October - January Students at Gallandala Kanishta Vidyalaya
