averages of above 70% in 55% of our subjects and 44% of our
learners achieved averages of over 70%.
Over and above this, I am pleased to announce that our pass
rates for the other grades were as follows: Grade 8: 96.9%;
Grade 9: 100%; Grade 10: 98.7% and Grade 11: 100%
These excellent results are testimony to the hard work of our
staff and learners, as well as the support of the parents. This
partnership is critically important. Congratulations to all!
In conclusion, it is my firm belief that any great institution is
developed through developing and empowering the
people therein to be the best that they can be. There is
greatness in everyone, and it is our role as the school
community to bring that greatness to the fore, in ourselves
and in those in our care. It is my vision to empower others to
do just that. Through uplifting the role players, learners, staff,
parents and the community we serve, we will be able to take
this institution to the next level.
In the words of Henry Ford:
“Coming together is a beginning.
Keeping together is progress.
Working together is success.”

STAFF STAFF NEWS
welcome
Phillipa Erasmus Staci-Leigh Howard Lizé Human This year’s staff news kicked off on a celebratory note
Ilse Lombard with Ms Rademeyer who became engaged over the
Cenique Koster Euzanne Kruger Izak Meyer December holidays. Some new staff members joined
our school. These are: Mr D Snyman (Accounting),
Lorraine Mabvadya Elizca Maree Ms P Sithole (LO and Music), Ms K Rankapole (Life
Science), Ms L Human (Afrikaans), Mrs E Maree
(Maths), Ms S Howard (French) and Mrs L Mabvadya
(French).
Sadly, Ms M Ellis resigned at the end of January. She
was a staff member at the school for five years, having
worked in the IT Department, in the bookroom and
on the school communicator team.
Mrs M Albertyn swam in the Midmar Mile again this
year. She brought home excellent results, having won
the race in her age group category. She and her family
also won the family race. Well done!
During February we bade farewell to Mrs L Cox, from
the procurement office. She resigned to follow her
husband to Stillbaai. Ms M Conway left us at the end
of February to further her studies in Educational
Psychology. She was part of the teaching staff for six
years. We congratulated Ms B Hubbard who became
engaged toward the end of February. At the end of
term one, we said a sad goodbye to Ms T Goyns, who
moved to Cape Town.
At the start of term two PHSG welcomed the
following new staff: Mrs E Kruger (English), Mrs C
Koster (Mathematics), Mrs J van Kraayenberg (LO),
Mrs Lombard, as our new PHSG Shoppe Manager, Mr
I Meyer, as our IT Systems Administrator, and Mrs A
Motsweni, as our Procurement office manager.
Congratulations go to Ms S Eaton who became
engaged over the long weekend in May.
In June, we welcomed Mr C Ndobela as our new IT
technician.

Ms S Ries, one of our hostel kitchen matrons, left us at Beatrice Hubbard Melanie Ellis Tamsin Goyns
the end of July. We wish her a happy retirement.
August arrived amid much excitement as we welcomed Rozanne Matthyse Mairin Oates
our new Principal, Mrs P Erasmus. We look forward to
watching her lead Girls’ High to new heights.
Speaking of arrivals, we congratulated Mrs le Riche
with the birth of her baby boy, Joshua, in August.
In September we had to bid a sad farewell to Mrs R
Matthyse. She has been part of the staff, specifically
the Afrikaans Department, for many years. She will be
sorely missed not only in the corridors of PHSG, but
also on the netball field and the athletics track. We also
said goodbye to Mrs S Rahman, who was part of the
Maths Department.
Toward the end of the year we had to bid a sad farewell
to quite a few staff members. Ms B Hubbard, from
the English Department, resigned to pursue a future
abroad, planning to relocate to Cape Town first and
then to Ireland. Miss S Eaton, from the Art Depart-
ment, landed an opportunity to travel to various parts
of Africa with her fiancé in 2019. Mr V Sebuthuma,
from the Math Department, also resigned with the aim
to further his studies the following year.
Four of our staff members, after many years of loyal
service to teaching, went on retirement. The first
member of staff we say goodbye to is Mrs J Viljoen.
She has been the Personal Assistant to the Principal for
fifteen years. Mrs J Cowan, a Geography teacher and
Old Girl, retired after twenty-two years of teaching.
Mrs M Robertson, from the English Department,
retired after twenty-four years of teaching. Mrs E
Russel, from the Life Sciences Department, went on
retirement after twenty-nine years of teaching. We
thank all of these staff members for their many years
of dedication and service to the school.
