2010 was indeed a busy and exciting but demanding year what with the
World Cup Soccer causing several changes to the school calendar.
However, as can be gleaned from the following pages, school life at
PHSG was as active as ever. We trust that you will enjoy in sharing
some our experiences and successes. There are far too many people to
thank individually but special credit must go to the girls for their
contributions and to those who provided photographic material.

Sherilyn Roelofse - Deputy Head Girl

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and matrics of 2010.
What is growing up really? Do we ever truly qualify as a
grown-up? No adult is perfect. But for some reason our
main mission in life is to grow up!

Four years ago we entered green dress territory, overwhelmed rewarding year. We’ve enjoyed our matric privileges which

calibre. Mrs Bagshaw and Mrs du Toit, thank you for your
guidance and care through every step of the RCL journey.
Thank you to our amazing teachers: your impact on our lives will
be everlasting. I know that, with this year being as ridiculously
busy as it was, many of us must have looked half asleep in class
very often ... . Thank you for putting up with us and for always
going the extra mile.

Very importantly, thank you to the matrics of 2010: you have
made high school a blast. To all my friends, thank you for your
motivation, hugs and understanding, and for reminding me to
smile. To my family, especially my Mom and Dad: Ek sal nooit
genoeg dankie kan sê vir al julle liefde en ondersteuning nie. Dankie vir al
julle moeite en vir elke keer wat julle bereid was om my rond te ry. Ek sou
nooit vandag hier gestaan het sonder julle nie.

Lastly, to the RCL Executive: my colleagues, my friends, the
KKK – you have been my superwomen this year. It has been a
privilege to serve the school alongside such strong ladies and I
thank God, not only for a blessed year, but for adding you to my
very long list of blessings. Zi, it has been the greatest honour to
have you as my Head Girl. You’ve been my leader and my friend
and an amazing inspiration to all of us.

I have come to my own conclusion: there’s no such thing as
growing up because a grown up is a child with many layers on. I
have grown a lot this year, and most of my extra layers are thanks
to Zizi and our Legends. I will cherish you and the lessons that I
learnt from you all forever.

Matrics of 2010: This is goodbye for now. I quote C. Hoppe’s
words as my wish for all of us:
“I hope that (our) achievements in life shall be these:

that we will have fought for what was right and fair
that we will have risked for that which mattered
that we will have given help to those who were in need and
that we will have left the earth a better place for what we've
done and who we’ve been.”
I believe that you can be the change we want to see in this world.
Never lose the child underneath all your grown up layers.
Good luck and live your dreams!

This year has been amazing! North Lodge surely is the greatest place in
the School. We began the year with many new little faces. Lovingly, as
North Lodge does, we took in the new babies and revealed the greatness
of our hostel.
We started off with Grade 8 Camp on the first Saturday and the rest of
the hostel went off to Menlyn. That night we had our annual
‘Newspaper Fashion Show’, where tremendous talent was shown
through the designs and modelling skills these North Lodge ladies have.
This certainly was one of the highlights of the year. On Sunday we all
went off to Hatfield. After having a good time shopping we had our
afternoon pool party with our School House sisters, where we got to
braai, listen to music and just have fun. Later on in the week the Grade
8s presented the hostel with their play, directed by the Grade 11s and
once again North Lodge did not disappoint. They put on a great show
and their performance was much appreciated.
As the year went by the Grade 8s finally got to meet the Boys High boys.
Initially, they were shy but as the evening went by they had a great time
playing games and dancing.
We then had our annual Boarder Parents’ Dinner where all parents were
invited to dine while we showcased our talents.
The annual Inter-hostel Volleyball was held in the second term. Once
again North Lodge was undefeated! This gave birth to the North Lodge
Hakka.
2010 has been a good year. Many lessons were learnt, new friendships
developed and many memories were made which will live on in hostel
and in our hearts.
To my dear friend and sister, Cleo Floudiotis, thank you for doing a
great job as Deputy Head of Hostel. I could not have asked for a
better partner in running the hostel. Thanks must also go to all the
hostel staff for playing a big role in our lives. Thank you also to
our Head Mother, Mrs Cÿrus, who has worked very hard for this
hostel and who has contributed so much in making this year
amazing. Thank you for your efforts.
As a unit we have all pulled our weight to make this year a
success. Thank you North Lodge ladies for being the pillars
that hold this hostel together. The past five years have been
amazing! Best luck for the years to come. North Lodge Hoo Ha
Ha!

Hostels

This year was very busy and filled with fun activities all round. We had
an addition of many new sisters to our family, mostly Grade 8s and a
new matric, Kutlwana, who joined us from St Albans, and who adjusted
very well to the new system. The first term started off with our annual
compulsory two week stay-in weekend time at Menlyn on Saturday
morning and Hatfield on Sunday morning, as well as a braai at the pool.
Even though the first term was extremely busy we still managed to have
our annual Water Polo tournament where School House walked away
with the trophy and gained more confidence. This was the first time
School House had won in a long time. We were extremely proud of our
team. Even though our Volleyball team didn’t do as well as our
opponents (North Lodge), we had an amazing time and we proved that
team work really does work.
In the spirit of the World Cup we hosted our very own Hostel Soccer
Cup, where we competed within the hostel. The Grade 10s showed the
rest of the hostel that they were the better team, winning the
tournament overall. This all happened before we went home at the end
of the second term.
This year has been one of the busiest years ever, but we are grateful to
have shared these experiences together as a hostel. I would like to thank
the hostel teachers for giving us guidance and making sure that we were
all safe and happy. To the matrics, for all their enthusiasm and to
Shandu, my deputy, for all the help and organisation she brought to the
team and all the amazing ideas she shared with us. We are truly grateful
to Mrs Cameron for always being there for us as the hostel secretary.
Her friendly smile always keeps us going.
Even though my time has come and gone, School House will always be
in my heart. The bonds that we formed were more than friendship
bonds; they were family bonds and we were all sisters here at School
House.
To the 2011 Head of Hostel, I would like to wish you the best of luck;
take care of yourselves, the hostel and all your sisters. Don’t give up on
your dreams and stay strong.
