2 Grayston Preparatory Ad Futura 2021

The start to 2021 was not exactly what any
of us had hoped for - remote teaching
and learning once again. But, despite this,
we settled into the year with the adjusted
routines once more, with aplomb. Our
older children resumed their COVID habits
in style, and our youngest learnt that they
were big and brave enough to carry their
bags and say goodbye to their parents at
the gate!

Botched ZOOM meetings, forgotten
learning packs, children in pyjamas,
parents sitting in on classes and cats on
screens became part of the day - we even
had a child tell a teacher they looked ‘so
much older on screen’. In hindsight, I think
there was a lot of truth to this statement.
It’s often easy to find humour when
reflecting on the past, but in all honesty,
situations like these were probably quite
stressful for many of us. We, therefore,
extend our thanks to the Grayston family
for supporting each other through these
challenging times and having the courage
to trust the school and the decisions made.

My heartfelt thanks go to the entire staff
complement for their tireless efforts in
building a school where every child can
find their place to flourish in their unique
way. Relationships remain at the heart of
our school, and for this, we thank our staff.

The advice and unwavering support
from the Board are much appreciated.
Their time, concern, and the many hours
they put into encouraging Grayston to
stand out from the crowd cannot be
underestimated. Thank you, too, to EXCO
for their endless energy, commitment and
support throughout the year.

The Parents’ Association, class parents
and fundraising committees have worked
behind the scenes bringing families and
children together so that Grayston remains
such a special community. We thank
all our parents for being there for each
other. Our parent body continues to be an
incredibly supportive and caring one.

Our values of trust, courage, lifelong
learning, perseverance, community and
humility are the building blocks that make
Grayston Prep the school it is today.

We hope you enjoy our collection of
2021 memories.

REPORT

It has been another successful year at
Grayston Prep. Despite the continued
impact of COVID, our kids have excelled
in academics, sport and cultural activities.
These achievements are only possible
through the wonderful support given
to the students and the School by the
Grayston staff, our parents, the PA and
the Board. I want to thank you all for your
continued commitment and support.

We once again outperformed the
International Benchmark Academic
Assessments and achieved scholarships
to numerous independent high schools,
highlighting the calibre of our children
and the eagerness of these schools to
enrol them.

2021 has been a very busy year with many
projects on the go. Some of the highlights
have been:
• The renovation of the Grade 000

classrooms.

• The installation of a new playground for
Grade 000 and Grade 00.

• The continuous advancements being
made on the IT front with future-
focused programmes and equipment
being well used.

• The construction of a recording studio
in the music department.

• The renovation of some classrooms.

• The installation of brand new
bathrooms with showers at the
swimming pool.

• The erection of electronic sports
scoreboards.

The School also embarked on a two-day
strategy workshop involving members of
the Board and the school management
team to focus on our future strategy. We
were excited about the outcomes achieved
and look forward to implementing this
over the next couple of years.

As a parent, I am exceptionally proud to
be part of Grayston Prep, a school that
always has the best interests of its children
at heart.
