I'm sure we've all muttered
the phrase "touch wood"
at some point, while
scrambling to find some
wood to touch. And it's a
golden rule of birthdays not
to say your birthday wish aloud
when you blow out the candles
because then it won't come
true! But the superstition about
black cats being bad luck I
could never quite understand.
I can't imagine any cat, black
or otherwise, being bad luck.
Surely those fluffy feet and
curious whiskers are all good
luck charms? “ Sesame”

It seems in some places
around the world, that's
the case. In Scotland the
arrival of a strange black To bust these black cat myths, meet a few of DoggieRescue’s black cat residents

Panther, Thunder & Charcoal (and Slate,
Smoke & Storm) These little guys are
brothers, three of them pure black, along
with three more siblings who have a
beautiful smoky grey ripple through their
coat. At 4 months old now, they came to
us with their mum, Mica, who is also
waiting for a home.

They are all little balls of energy, typical
kittens. Spending their days running
around, playing with each other, wrestling
and fighting like all siblings do! With six
kittens speeding past in all directions, it’s
“ Slate & Panther”
hard to keep track of them!. They are much
too young to be spending their absolute
cutest weeks and months without forever
families. All six of them are bundles of fun
and joy. It’s endlessly entertaining to sit
back and watch their crazy antics.

They all fearlessly jump about, chasing
toys, chasing each other, sometimes just Kittens
chasing shadows. They’ve got so much love to play!
playful energy to burn. But once they’re
worn out, and ready for a nap there's
no better sound than the adorable purr
coming from their little kitten motors while
they cuddle up to you for a snooze.

Big Jim: As his name rightly suggests, Big
Jim is, well, big. A big ball of cuddles! He
is so friendly and sweet. He's the oldest of
the black cats, but don't confuse that with
him being old - he's only around 5 years
young so still has plenty of years to bring
good luck to whoever makes a home for
him. He is a bold, confident cat, not afraid
to speak up when he's looking for a pat “ Big Jim”
(or possibly more food!).

So if you’re looking for a bit of good
luck to come your way, choose to
adopt a black cat (or two!) and be
rewarded with love for many years to
come. Check out the website to find

Rabbits FEATURE
REASONS

RABBITS

By Tricia Curran MAKE GREAT PETS

Are you looking to add a ‘fur child’ to your family? Perhaps a dog or a cat is
not really your style? Ever considered adopting a rabbit...or preferably two?

1. 1.
1
1. . Rabbits are the perfect pets for those who
may not have time for daily walks, but still seek the
social quality of a dog-like companion. And, like cats, rabbits
can be litter box trained very easily. Best of both worlds!
2. 2.
2. 2. Many people who are allergic to dogs and
cats are not allergic to rabbits. If you are allergic to
dogs or cats rabbits might be a great alternative but you
would need to meet a bunny first before adoption.

3. Rabbits are uniquely talented comedians.
Binkies (little hop-spins and kicks they do when they’re
happy), bunny flops (flopping over and playing dead)
and bunny 500s (think the Indy 500, but with bunnies) are
just some of the quirky and amusing habits of the house
bunny. Rabbits also love to play with toys and there are
many available, a lot you can make yourself. They love rolly
and jingly toys, wooden blocks, anything fun for chewing.

4. Rabbits are great listeners (look at
those ears!). They also make excellent snugglers
with their extra-soft fur and loving nature. What more
could you ask for from a friend? Bonded besties

5. Rabbits help you get healthy. As herbivores, rabbits mesh

well with vegetarian & vegan lifestyles. Generally speaking though Did I hear someone
having a pet who encourages you to stock your fridge with fruits & say...FOREVER
vegetables is good for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. HOME

6. Rabbits have long life spans compared to other
small animals. They can live 10-12 years if provided with a
proper diet and care.

7. Rabbits make great pets for city dwellers. They happily
stay in large cages or puppy pens during the day when you’re gone
and love to come out to romp around in rabbit-proofed rooms when
you’re home.

8. Rabbits need homes too. One of the best reasons to adopt
a bunny is there are so many waiting for forever homes. In fact,
after dogs & cats, rabbits are the 3rd most abundant adoptable pet.
