TAKE CARE OF ALL CATS

AT HALLOWEEN!

Black cats are a well-known symbol of the “scary” things associated with Halloween. Did you know that
sources attribute that to two (not too intelligent) men in the middle-ages, when they thought that an old
single woman was capable of turning into a black cat, and that is how witches and black cats were aligned.

Black cats do not deserve the
“unlucky” or “evil” labels that
people with superstitions may
use. We all know that the
colour of a kitty cannot affect
its behaviour and that “cat
people” do not exist other than
the people who love caring for
kitties in rescue shelters!

Happily today we now treat
Halloween, black cats and
witches with a sense of
humour and fun.

• Halloween started Biggest myth about black cats:
during the Roman period they bring bad luck or are evil.
(or maybe before?) to
honour the departed. Just on any firecracker night, or on New Year’s Eve with the fireworks,
we recommend that you take extra care with all your pets, and keep them in

countries celebrate the any animal regardless of its colour.
“Day of the Dead” which
these days is a huge
celebration of fun at fairs
and with entertainment
troupes.

• And, in the last
century western
society has turned this
night into a family
celebration, with lots of
fun to be had pretending
to be scared and
partying.

I don’t know what
my family would
do without me to
amuse them...LOL

By Deb Rouse

Fun attributes of black cats:
• Black is always “in” and

considered stylish and
sophisticated
• You can boast to people you own
a baby panther or jaguar!
• Black fur shouldn’t show on your
black dress, black jumper, black
furniture, black…

Well established fact about black
cats: they are least likely to be
adopted because of superstitions
and also as they are not easy to
photograph well.

6 OCTOBER 2016 DOGGIERESCUE.COM CATS E-MAGAZINE

How could anything so beautiful…
be LESS ADOPTABLE?

In Scotland, they believe a strange black cat turning up on your door step is a sign of prosperity to come,
in British fishing villages wives kept a black cat to ensure their husbands safely returned from sea trips,
and in Japan black cats are just generally considered good luck… let’s all follow these beliefs and
welcome a new black kitty to our home!

Help us to find these lovely black kitties a new loving forever family….

Did you know that from September onwards thousands of orphan foxes will be born and killed at the hands of the
New South Wales Government and the Local Land Services. Their only crime? Being born a fox. They cannot
