f Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has been nominated as the board member of the Global Alliance
for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI). The seat is currently held by Myint Htwe of Myanmar. Dr Vardhan
will represent the South East Area Regional Office (SEARO)/ Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO)
constituency on the GAVI Board. Dr Vardhan will assume the charge with effect from January 1, 2021,
and serve till December 31, 2023.
f The Central Government has approved the extension of the term of ISRO Chairman K Sivan, for a period
of one year. He was due to retire on January 14, 2021. Sivan will now continue as ISRO Chairman and
Secretary, Department of Space up to January 14, 2022.
f Soma Mondal has taken over as the new Chairman of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) with effect
from January 01, 2021. She is the first-ever womenhead of the body. She replaces Anil Kumar
Chaudhary, who superannuated on 31 December 2020.
f The appointments committee of the Cabinet has approved Suneet Sharma appointment as Chairman &
CEO of Railway Board, Ministry of Railways and ex-officio Principal Secretary to Government of India. He
took over in his new role with effect from January 01, 2021.

f Umesh Sinha has been named as the deputy election commissioner in the Election Commission of India.
Sinha, a 1986-batch IAS officer (retired) is at present serving as secretary-general in the commission.

f Justice Pankaj Mithal has been appointed as the new Chief Justice (CJ) of the Common High Court for the
Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh in Jammu on January 04, 2021.
f Sanjay Kapoor was elected president of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) while Bharat Singh
Chauhan retained the secretary's post.
f The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), the national apex body of the gems and
jewellery industry, has announced the appointment of Ashish Pethe as chairman and Saiyam Mehra as
vice chairman for a period of two years.
f Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal has been named the new Deputy Chief of Army Staff (DCOAS). Lt Gen Dayal is the
Corps Commander of the Tejpur based 4 Corps.
f Arup Kumar Goswami was sworn in as the Chief Justice (CJ) of Andhra Pradesh High Court by Governor
Biswab Bushan Harichandan in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

f The senior-most judge of Delhi High Court, Justice Hima Kohli has been appointed as the new Chief
Justice of Telangana High Court. She is the first woman to be sworn in as CJ of Telangana HC. She
replaces CJ Raghvendra Singh Chauhan, who has been appointed as the CJ of Uttarakhand HC.

f Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court informed the Ministry of
Law and Justice. The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind in the exercise of the power conferred by
clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, appointed Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, Judge of the
Uttarakhand High Court, as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

f Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president, Dushyant Dave has resigned from his post with
immediate effect, he has forfeited his right to continue. Acting SCBA Secretary Rohit Panday confirmed
the development that the senior advocate has resigned with immediate effect.
f Intel has appointed Pat Gelsinger as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective Feb. 15, 2021. Gelsinger
will also join the Intel board of directors upon assuming the role. He will succeed Bob Swan, who will
remain CEO until Feb. 15.
f The Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) has appointed Sandeep Aggarwal
as the new Chairman. Aggarwal, the Managing Director and Promoter of Delhi-based Paramount
Communications, will take over from Shyamal Ghosh, ex-Telecom Secretary.
f The UN Human Rights Council elected Fiji's ambassador as its 2021 president in an unprecedented secret
ballot after a diplomatic stand-off blocked the usual consensus decision. Fiji's ambassador in Geneva,
Nazhat Shameem Khan, who served as the council's vice president in 2020 and is considered a rights
champion, won with 29 out of 47 votes.
f The board of directors of RBL Bank has approved the re-appointment of Vishwavir Ahuja as the Managing
Director and CEO of the bank for three years.
f Ministry for Sports and Youth Affairs, Kiren Rijiju has been given the additional charge of the Ayush
Ministry. He will hold the fort till Shripad Yesso Naik recovers from an accident.
f Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty has been appointed as the new Vice-chief of Army staff. He
would assume the office on February 1, 2021, from Lt General SK Saini, who is superannuating on 31
January 2021. Lt General CP Mohanty is an alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, and
National Defence Academy. He is a June 1982 batch Infantry Officer from the Rajput Regiment.
f The appointments committee (ACC) of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Swaminathan
Janakiraman and Ashwini Kumar Tewari as new Managing Directors (MDs) of State Bank of India (SBI)
for a period of three years.
f The National Health Authority (NHA) has appointed RS Sharma as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
of country's flagship public health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat, also called Pradhan Mantri Jan
Arogya Yojana. He would replace Indu Bhushan, who is serving as the Chief Executive of the Ayushman
scheme since its inception in 2018.
f Facebook Inc. has appointed Henry Moniz as its first-ever Chief Compliance Officer. He will join Facebook
on February 8 to lead the company's global compliance team, to enhance its global compliance and risk
management and promote the highest standards of legal and ethical conduct at the company. Prior to
this, Henry Moniz had been the chief compliance officer and chief audit executive at media company
ViacomCBS Inc.
f Amazon.com Inc founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos has announced that he would step down as CEO of the
company and become Executive Chairman in Q3 of 2021, i.e. with effect from July 01, 2021. Andy Jassy,
who is currently serving as the chief executive of Amazon Web Services (AWS), will replace Bezos as CEO
of Amazon. Bezos started the company 27 years ago, on 5 July 1994, as an internet bookself.
f Department of Personnel and Training, under Personnel Ministry, has appointed Praveen Sinha, as the
interim director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), with immediate effect on 03 February 2021.
He has been appointed in place of the incumbent chief RK Shukla, whose tenure came to an end on
February 03, 2021

f Nigerian economist Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been chosen as the next Director-General of the World
Trade Organization (WTO). She would be the first woman as well as the first African nation to lead the
organization. Okonjo-Iweala, the former finance minister of Nigeria, will succeed Roberto Azevedo, who
stepped down in August 2020.

f The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres re-appointed Michael Bloomberg as his Special
Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions. Bloomberg is the founder and owner of Bloomberg LP, the
parent company of Bloomberg News. He was previously appointed as the U.N. special envoy for climate
action between March 2018 and November 2019.

f The International Solar Alliance (ISA) has announced Dr Ajay Mathur as its new DirectorGeneral following
his election at the first special assembly of ISA members. Dr Mathur replaces Mr Upendra Tripathy, who
has served as DirectorGeneral since the ISA was founded in 2015.

f The UN Capital Development Fund has appointed Indian-origin investment and development banker
Preeti Sinha as its Executive Secretary, the highest leadership rank in the institution. She succeeds Judith
Karl. He will work with a focus on providing micro-finance assistance to women, youth, small and
medium-sized enterprises in under-served communities.

f Former Union Minister Vijay Sampla has assumed the charge of Chairman National Commission for
Scheduled Castes (NCSC). He has been the former Union Minister of State for Social Justice &
Empowerment from 2014 to 2019. NCSC is an Indian constitutional body under the Ministry of Social
Justice and Empowerment, that works for the socio-economic development of the scheduled castes and
to prevent atrocities against them.

f Dushyant Chautala has been re-elected as the President of Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) for a
period of four years. He was elected unanimously during the 84th annual meeting of the TTFI, on
February 24, 2021

f The re-appointment of Pramod Chandra Mody as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) as
been extended for a further period of three months. He is a 1982-batch Indian Revenue Service officer,
was appointed as the CBDT chief in February 2019.

f Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh took over as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of
Eastern Naval Command (ENC). He replaces Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain. Atul Kumar Jain has been
transferred to New Delhi to assume charge as the Vice Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman
Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC).

f The former head of the News Services Division of All India Radio, Jaideep Bhatnagar, took over as
Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau. Prior to his current charge as head of the
organisation, Bhatnagar has worked in PIB for six years in different capacities. He will take over from
Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia, who superannuated on February 28, 2021.

f Matam Venkata Rao has taken charge as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of
Central Bank Of India. Rao till now held the position of Executive Director at Canara Bank. His
appointment is for a period of 3 years with effect from the date of assumption of office on or after March 1,
2021, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

f IPS officer Kuldiep Singh has given an additional charge of CRPF director general (DG) after incumbent
chief A P Maheshwari retires. Kuldiep Singh is working as the special DG of its central zone, will hold the
additional charge of the CRPF head till “the appointment and joining of the successor or until further
orders.

f Six-time world champion boxer Mary Kom has been appointed as the Chairperson of the International
Boxing Association's (AIBA) Champions and Veterans Committee. The 37-yearold was voted to the post
by AIBA's board of directors on March 03, 2021.
f Department of economic affairs secretary, Tarun Bajaj has been given the additional charge of revenue
secretary. Present revenue secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey retires on February 28.
f UN chief Antonio Guterres has appointed leading Indian economist Ligia Noronha as Assistant Secretary-
General and Head of the New York Office of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
f Indian-origin Naureen Hassan has been appointed as the first Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
(COO) of the New York-based Federal Reserve Bank, by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve
System.
f NABARD chairman, G R Chintala has assumed charge as the chairman of APRACA (Asia Pacific Rural and
Agricultural Credit Association). He has taken over from DPK Gunasekera, who is also the Chief Executive
Officer of Bank of Ceylon.
f Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), Girish Chandra Murmu has been re-appointed as the
Chairman of the Panel of External Auditors of the United Nations for the year 2021. Prior to this, Mr
Murmu was elected as Chairman of the Panel for 2020 as well.
f The Central Government has appointed Dr G P Samanta as the new Chief Statistician of India (CSI) for a
period of two years. He is India's fourth CSI. He will replace Kshatrapati Shivaji who was holding an
additional charge of the post since September 2020.
f Union Minister Anurag Thakur has become the first serving MP to be appointed as Captain in the
Territorial Army. Thakur has been promoted to the rank of Captain at 124 Infantry Battalion Territorial
Army (Sikh)

f Asset Reconstruction Company (India) Ltd (Arcil) has announced the appointment of Pallav Mohapatra as
its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. Prior to the appointment, Mohapatra was the MD and
CEO of the Central Bank of India.

f Deepak Mishra, Practice Manager in the World Bank's Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment Global
Practice, has been appointed as the next director and chief executive of the Indian Council for Research
on International Economic Relations (ICRIER).

f Former Cabinet Secretary and Principal Advisor in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) P.K. Sinha has
relinquished his high-profile position on personal grounds. He was appointed in the PMO first as Officer on
Special Duty (OSD) briefly and then as Principal Advisor, a specially created position for him, in
September 2019 after the 2019 parliamentary polls.

f Senior IPS officer, M. A. Ganapathy was on March 16, 2021 appointed Director General of National
Security Guard. Ganapathy, a 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Uttarakhand cadre, is
currently Director General, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

f Lt General DP Pandey has taken over the command of strategic Kashmir-based 15 Corps from Lt Gen BS
Raju, who has been appointed as the new Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian
Army.

f Dr Ajay Mathur has assumed office as the DirectorGeneral of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) with
effect from March 15, 2021. He has been appointed for a period of four years which can be renewed for an
additional term. Dr Ajay Mathur has replaced Upendra Tripathy, who completed his term on March 15,
after serving as the DirectorGeneral since 2017.

f Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan has been appointed as the Chairman of
the international body Stop TB Partnership Board. He was appointed in recognition of his outstanding
contribution to the movement to eradicate Tuberculosis from India by 2025. He will serve a three-year
term, commencing from July this year.

f NeoGrowth Credit Pvt. Ltd, a lender to small businesses, has announced the appointment of cricketer
Ajinkya Rahane as its brand ambassador. The agreement is for a year which can be extended further.
Rahane will feature in a campaign slated to be released in the first week of April, which will talk about the
ease of procuring loans through NeoGrowth for small businesses.

f International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach was on 10th March re-elected for an
additional four-year term.

f Arindam Bagchi, an officer of the 1995 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), has assumed charge as
the new spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). He is replacing Anurag Srivastava, an
officer of the 1999 batch of IFS.
f The US Senate has voted, 57-43, to confirm the appointment of Indian-American doctor Vivek Murthy as
the Surgeon General under US President Biden's administration. The 43-year-old Dr Murthy would
occupy the position of America's Surgeon General for the second time.
f The government has extended the term of Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) K. VijayRaghavan by a year.
He was appointed PSA in 2018 after retiring as Secretary of, Department of Biotechnology. His contract
ends on April 2 but has now been extended until April 2022.
f IAS Sanjeev Kumar has appointed as Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) under the Ministry
of Civil Aviation. Kumar is a 1993-batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre. The Appointments Committee
of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment.
f Senior bureaucrat, Saurabh Garg has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unique
Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as part of a bureaucratic reshuffle effected by the Centre. Mr
Garg is at present serving in his cadre state Odisha. He is a 1991 batch IAS officer.
f Atish Chandra has been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director, Food Corporation of India in the
rank and pay of Additional Secretary. Mr Chandra, a 1994 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre, is currently
Joint Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare.
f Anish Shah who is set to take over as the managing director and CEO of Mahindra and Mahindra from 2
April will become the first professional executive to oversee the entire business of the $19.4 billion
Mahindra Group.

f Subhash Kumar has assumed the additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Oil and
Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on April 01, 2021. He is serving as Director (Finance) at ONGC. Kumar
succeeds incumbent CMD, Shashi Shanker, who superannuated on March 31, 2021.
f Former Reserve Bank of India Governor Dr Urjit Patel has been appointed as Additional Director of
Britannia Industries with effect from 31st March 2021 for the tenure of 5 years. The company has
announced that its board of directors has approved the appointment.

f Chairman and Managing Director of Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE) Limited, Mallika Srinivasan has
been appointed as the chairperson of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), an order issued by
the personnel ministry. This is for the first time that a private sector specialist has been appointed as the
head of the PESB, responsible for the appointment of top management posts in the Central Public Sector
Enterprises (CPSEs).
f Former Quality Council of India (QCI) chief Adil Zainulbhai has appointed chairman of Capacity Building
Commission. The government has approved a commission under National Programme for Civil Services
Capacity Building (NPCSCB), also known as 'Mission Karmayogi', to train civil servants at all levels.
f Digit Insurance has roped in cricketer Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador. Kohli has also invested in Digit
Insurance in the past. Digit Insurance, a general insurance company that became the first unicorn of

f BP Kanungo has stepped down from the post of the deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India after his

f The senior-most Supreme Court judge Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana has been appointed as the
next Chief Justice of India (CJI). Justice Ramana would succeed incumbent CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde to
take over as the 48th CJI. He would assume charge of the office from April 24, 2021, till August 26, 2022.
f Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), appointed
Carl Bildt as WHO Special Envoy for the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-Accelerator).

f Noted socio-technologist, Dr Chintan Vaishnav has been appointed the mission director of Atal
Innovation Mission (AIM), the government's flagship initiative under NITI Aayog.

f The government has appointed S Ramann as Chairman and Managing Director of Small Industries
Development Bank of India (SIDBI). Ramann, a 1991-batch Indian Audit & Accounts Service officer, is
currently the CEO of National E-Governance Services Ltd, India's first Information Utility.

f The incumbent Election Commissioner (EC) Sushil Chandra has been named to become the next Chief
Election Commissioner (CEC) of India. He will assume charge with effect from April 13, 2021. He will
replace incumbent CEC, Sunil Arora, who will retire on April 12, 2021.
Poonam Gupta will be the new director-general of the policy think tank National Council of Applied
Economic Research (NCAER). Gupta will succeed the current head of the think tank, Shekhar Shah, to
become the first woman to hold the post. Currently, Gupta is the lead economist at the World Bank in
Washington DC.
f IAS officer, Siddharth Singh Longjam will take over as the National Anti-Doping Agency's Director-
General. Longjam is currently serving as joint secretary in the sports ministry and is also the CEO of the
currently suspended National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL). He will replace Navin Agarwal who listed
the creation of Athletes Biological Passport (ABP) for around 60 elite Indian sportspersons as one of the
highlights of his tenure.

f Prime Minister of Haiti, Joseph Jouthe has resigned following a situation of unrest in the country due to an
increase in killing and kidnapping cases over the past few days. Joseph Jouthe served as the Prime
Minister of Haiti from March 4, 2020, until April 14, 2021. President Jovenel Moise has nominated Claude
Joseph as the new prime minister of Haiti.
f Private sector lender, DCB Bank has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India for the re-
appointment of Murali M. Natrajan as the Managing Director & CEO, for a further period of one year from
April 29, 2021. He was appointed as MD and CEO of DCB Bank in May 2009. Prior to joining DCB, Natrajan
has worked with foreign banks Standard Chartered & Citibank.
f Global sportswear brand Puma has signed long-term endorsement deals with cricketers Washington
Sundar and Devdutt Padikkal. Puma India, which recently announced its partnership with Royal
Challengers Bangalore, has been consistently investing in India's sports ecosystem.

f India's Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), GC Murmu has been chosen as the external auditor by
the Hague-based Conference of State Parties of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons
(OPCW), for a three-year term starting 2021.
f Accenture India's chairperson, Rekha M Menon has been appointed as chairperson of the National
Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), becoming the first woman to take the top
role in the software lobby group's 30-year history. She succeeds U B Pravin Rao, chief operating officer of
Infosys as Nasscom's chairperson. TCS President Krishnan Ramanujam will be the vice-chairperson.
f The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of former Economic Affairs Secretary,
Atanu Chakraborty, as the part-time chairman and additional independent director of the private sector
lender HDFC Bank. He retired as Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs in April 2020. Prior to
that, he served as Secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM).

f Former US Ambassador to India Richard Verma has been appointed as General Counsel and Head of

Arun Raste as MD and CEO of National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) for a period
of 5 years.

f Public Enterprise Selection Board selected Amit Banerjee as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of
Bharat Earth Movers Limited, (BEML) an Indian Public Sector Undertaking. The PESB announced on
meeting held on April 26, 2021. Currently, he is serving as Director (Rail & Metro), BEML Limited.
f Japanese Sportswear brand ASICS announced that it has appointed Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder of
the Indian cricket team and Chennai Super Kings as its brand ambassador. The company, which focuses
on sporting gear for the running category.
f The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of T V Somanathan as
the new Finance Secretary. He will replace Ajay Bhushan Pandey who superannuated in February 2021.
f Bajaj Auto has announced the appointment of Neeraj
f Bajaj as its new Chairman of the Board with effect from May 1, 2021. The automaker has also announced
Rahul Bajaj as its Chairman Emeritus. This will be taken up at the ensuing annual general meeting for the

f Reserve Bank of India (RBI) executive director T Rabi Sankar has been named as the fourth Deputy
Governor of the central bank. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his
appointment. He is in charge of the payments system, fintech, information technology and risk
management at the RBI. He succeeds BP Kanungo as the deputy governor, who retired on April 2 after
getting a one-year extension in his position.
f Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company Limited (KLI) on 1st May announced it has appointed Mahesh
Balasubramanian as managing director of the company. He has been appointed following the retirement
of G Murlidhar.
f The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Justice (retired) Prafulla Chandra Pant had
been appointed as the acting chairperson of the Commission with effect from April 25. A former Supreme
Court judge, Justice Pant was appointed member of the NHRC on April 22, 2019. The post of a
chairperson has been vacant since Justice H.L. Dattu, a former Chief Justice of India, completed his
tenure on December 2, 2020.
f Raman Meenakshi Sundaram has been appointed as Director of the Indian Institute of Rice Research
(IIRR), an arm of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Prior to this elevation, he was working as
Principal Scientist (Biotechnology) at the institute crop Improvement Section.
f THDC India Ltd has announced that Vijay Goel assumed as chairman and managing director. His
appointment will come into effect from May 1, 2021. He joined the company in 1990 as a senior personnel
officer (SPO) from NHPC Ltd. He has more than 35 years of varied experience in the field of human
resource management. Ujjwala Singhania has been appointed as the National President of FICCI Ladies
Organization (FLO), the oldest women-led & women-centric business chamber of Southeast Asia. As the
38th National President of FLO Singhania will focus on empowering women by facilitating an enabling
environment that promotes entrepreneurship, industry participation and economic development of
women.
f Sankar Ghosh, an award-winning Indian-origin immunologist, has been elected to the prestigious
National Academy of Sciences in recognition of his “distinguished and continuing achievements in
original research. He was among the 120 newly elected members announced by the Academy.

promoted as ED, Mr Kattoor was heading Bengaluru Regional Office of the Reserve Bank as Regional

and Budget Department and Rajbhasha Department.

f Padmakumar M Nair has been appointed as thCEO of the proposed National Asset Reconstruction
Company Ltd. Presently Padmakumar is the Chief General Manager of Stressed Assets Resolution Group
at SBI.

f The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), the government's head-hunter, has picked Arun Kumar
Singh as the chairman and managing director of state-run oil refining and marketing firm Bharat
Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL).

f Veteran British diplomat Martin Griffiths has been appointed as the new Chief at the United Nations Office
for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), for a period of five years. Griffiths will replace Mark
Lowcock as the new UnderSecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator
(USG/ERC) of OCHA. He is currently serving as the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen.

f Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) announced that its general secretary Manisha Kapoor has
been appointed to the executive committee of the International Council for Advertising Self-Regulation
(ICAS). Until April, ASCI served on the executive committee as a member for a two-year term. Now,
Kapoor will play a leadership role on the committee till 2023. She will be one of the four global vice-
presidents on the executive committee.

f The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the appointment of Ramesh Powar as the
Head Coach of Team India (Senior Women).
f Footwear company Bata India has appointed Gunjan Shah as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He
will join Bata in his new role from 21 June 2021, for a period of five years. Shah replaces Sandeep Kataria,
who has been elevated as the Global CEO of Bata Brands in November 2020.
f Indian-American Neera Tanden has been appointed senior adviser to U.S. President Joe Biden. She is
currently the president and CEO of a progressive think-tank, Center for American Progress (CAP). She
withdrew her nomination as Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget due to stiff
opposition from Republican senators.
f Suzuki Motorcycle India has appointed Satoshi Uchida as the new Company Head. He has replaced
Koichiro Hirao as part of Suzuki Motor Corporation's global revamp.
f Star India hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh was re-appointed as a member of the International
Hockey Federation (FIH) Athletes' Committee during the virtual meeting of the world body's Executive
Board. He has been a member of the panel since 2017. The EB confirmed the appointment of four new
members for the Athletes' Committee. Sreejesh Parattu (IND), Marlena Rybacha (POL), Mohamed Mea
(RSA) and Matt Swann (AUS) are now joining the Committee. Steve Horgan (USA), the new chair of the
FIH Rules Committee, succeeding David Collier.
f Amitabh Chaudhry has been re-appointed as the Managing Director and CEO of the private sector lender
Axis Bank for three more years by the bank board. His second 3 years term will begin with effect from
January 1, 2022, up to December 31, 2024.
f Vaishali S Hiwase became the first woman officer to be appointed as officer commanding in the Border
Roads Organisation (BRO) where she will be responsible for providing connectivity through an Indo-
China border road. Vaishali is from Wardha, Maharashtra, and has completed a successful demanding

tenure in Kargil. Narinder Batra has been re-elected as the President of the International Hockey
Federation (FIH) for the second consecutive term. He was elected during the virtual 47th Congress of
FIH, where he beat Marc Coudron, Chief of Belgium Hockey Federation, by just two votes. He will hold the
office until 2024 because the FIH has reduced the term from four to three years.

f The Badminton Association of India (BAI) President Himanta Biswa Sarma has been elected as a Member
of the c for the period 2021-25. Sarma was elected among 31 contestants to the 20-member BWF Council
on May 22, 2021, at the virtual AGM and Council election of BWF, where he got 236 votes in favour. He is
also the Vice President of Badminton Asia and the Chief Minister of Assam.

f The Board of Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) has appointed Rajesh Bansal as the chief executive
officer (CEO) of the RBIH with effect from May 17, 2021, the RBIH said in a statement. The Reserve Bank
Innovation Hub would develop internal infrastructure to promote fintech research and facilitate
engagement with innovators and start-ups.

f IPS officer, Subodh Jaiswal has been appointed Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He
was the most senior officer among the three shortlisted for the post of CBI Director. Jaiswal, along with
KR Chandra and VS Kaumudi, was short-listed out of 109 officers for the top post by the high-powered
committee led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Other members of the committee include Chief Justice
of India (CJI) NV Ramana and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
f Andy Jassy will officially become the CEO of Amazon on July 5th, the company announced at a
shareholder meeting. Amazon announced that Jassy, who is the current CEO of Amazon Web Services
(AWS), would replace Jeff Bezos as CEO of the entire company in February.

f Jagjit Pavadia, the former Narcotics Commissioner of India and a retired officer of the Indian Revenue
Service (Customs), has been elected president of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB). She
is the first Indian to be heading the Vienna-based organization and the second woman to hold this office.

f The appointments committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of B.V.R.
Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary Jammu & Kashmir as an officer on special duty in the Department of
Commerce. An order issued by the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

f Research and Analysis Wing chief, Samant Kumar Goel and Intelligence Bureau head Arvind Kumar were
given a one-year extension in their services. Goel, a 1984-batch IPS officer from Punjab cadre, would
continue to be the Secretary of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) for a period one year beyond the
presence tenure which ends on June 30.

f Historian Laurence des Cars becomes the first female president of Musée du Louvre, the world's largest
museum in Paris, France in 228 years. She was appointed as the first female president of Musée du
Louvre by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

f Director-General of Central Reserve Police Force, Kuldiep Singh has been given additional charge of
Director General of National Investigation Agency, NIA. He will hold the additional post after 31st or this
month after the superannuation of Y C Modi.

f Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank' has inaugurated the two-day Virtual International
Akhand Conference EDUCON 2020' through video conferencing. This two-day International Conference
is being organized by the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) in collaboration with the Global
Educational Research Association (GERA). The focal theme of EDUCON2020 is Envisioning Education for
Transforming Youth to Restore Global Peace.

f The Government of France organised the fourth One Planet Summit', through videoconferencing, which
aimed at protecting the world's biodiversity. The Summit was organised in cooperation with the United
Nations and the World Bank. The theme of the Summit was ―Let's act together for nature.

f The 13th India-Vietnam Defence Security Dialogue was held in a virtual format. The virtual event was
cochaired by Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar along with Vietnamese Sr Lt Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh,
Deputy Defence Minister, Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

f The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution,
Piyush Goyal has inaugurated the two-day Prarambh', Startup India International Summit in New Delhi
on 15 January 2021.
f The Summit has been organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade
(DPIIT), under M/o Commerce & Industry.
f Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare digitally chaired the 148th session of
WHO Executive Board, through Video Conference. The meeting provides a platform to bring together all
member states to set the directions and agenda and continue striving for the objective of Health as a
state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity. Also, the WHO has declared the Year 2021 as the Year of Global Solidarity and Survival.
f “ Start of New Decade' in line with the government's „Make for the World' Initiatives.
f The 7th edition of ‗MASCRADE 2021 – Movement against Smuggled & Counterfeit Trade' was
inaugurated by Dr Harsh Vardhan, the Union Minister of Health and Family welfare. The two-day
programme was organized by FICCI CASCADE (Committee Against Smuggling and Counterfeiting
Activities Destroying the Economy), to combat illicit trade, especially in a post COVID era.
f Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chaired the 35th PRAGATI meeting to review multiple projects,
grievances and programmes. In the meeting, ten agenda items were taken for review worth Rs. 54,675
crore, related to 15 states. These included nine projects and one programme. Prime Minister also
reviewed the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana. PRAGATI stands for Pro-Active
Governance and Timely Implementation.
f The 5th joint meeting of the India-Japan Act East Forum (AEF) was held in New Delhi. During the 5th
meeting, the AEF reviewed the progress of ongoing projects in the North Eastern Region of India in
various areas including connectivity, hydropower, sustainable development, harnessing of water
resources, and skill development.

f Raksha Mantri, Rajnath Singh has inaugurated the 'Chiefs of Air Staff (CAS) Conclave' at Air Force
Station Yelahanka in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The two-day conclave has been organised by Indian Air
Force, from 3 to 04 February 2021, in a Hybrid Form with extensive use of digital media. The Chiefs of Air
Staff from about 75 countries would come together on a single platform to exchange their thoughts on
current issues related to aerospace power strategy and technological developments.
f The first India-European Union High-Level Dialogue was co-chaired by the Minister of Commerce and
Industry, Piyush Goyal from India side and the European Union Executive VicePresident & Trade
Commissioner Mr Valdis Dombrovskis, from the EU side. This Dialogue was organised in line with the
commitment made at the 15th India-EU Leader's Summit held in July 2020.
f Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the World Sustainable Development Summit 2021
through video conferencing. The theme of the Summit is 'Redefining our common future: Safe and
secure environment for all'. 2021 WSD Summit is the 20th edition of the flagship event organised by 'The
Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)'.
f The 11th IEA-IEF-OPEC Symposium on Energy Outlooks was held virtually on February 17, 2021, under
the patronage of the Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud. From
India, the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan, participated in the
symposium.
f Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the virtual Maritime India Summit (MIS) 2021, from March
2 to 4, 2021. The 'Maritime India Summit 2021' is the flagship initiative of the Union Ministry of State for
Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India. FICCI is the industry partner for the
summit. The theme of the event is “Exploring the potential business opportunities in the Indian Maritime
sector and making Aatmanirbhar Bharat”.
f Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has inaugurated the International Commission
on Large Dams (ICOLD) Symposium in New Delhi. The theme of the symposium is “Sustainable
Development of Dams & River Basins”. More than 300 delegates from across the country and abroad will
participate in the Symposium.
f A trilateral dialogue was held among India, France, and Australia on February 24, 2021, at the senior
officials' level, with a focus on further enhancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. The aim of this trilateral
dialogue is to build strong bilateral relation among the three countries and synergies their respective
strength to ensure a peaceful, secure, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.
f The 6th edition of the International Conference on Pharmaceutical & Medical Device sector was
inaugurated by Union Minister of Railways, Commerce & Industry, and Consumer Affairs and Food &
Public Distribution Piyush Goyal. The conference which includes INDIA PHARMA 2021 & INDIA MEDICAL
DEVICE 2021 is scheduled to take place from February 25-26, 2021 & March 1-2, 2021. The theme of
India Pharma 2021: 'Indian Pharma Industry: “Future is Now”.The theme of India Medical Device 2021 is
“India MedTech Future: Innovate & Make in India through Global Alliance”
f The Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman has attended the G20 Central Bank Governors'
meeting. This was the first-ever G20 Central Bank Governors' meeting that was held under the Italian
Presidency. The main aim of the meeting was to discuss policy actions for transformative and equitable
recovery along with other issues on the agenda including the global economic outlook, financial sector
issues, financial inclusion and sustainable finance. This meeting is a follow-up for the upcoming 2021
G20 Summit, the sixteenth meeting of Group of Twenty, scheduled to take place in Rome, Italy, on 30–31
October 2021.

Minister of Sweden, Stefan Lofven. Both the leaders underlined that the longstanding close relations

TechBharat 2021. Laghu Udyog Bharati and IMS Foundation have organized the 2nd edition of the
conclave bringing together stakeholders from the HealthTech & Edutech sector on a virtual platform.
f Defence minister Rajnath Singh has attended the three-day Combined Commanders' Conference (CCC)
along with top defence officials at Kevadia, Gujarat. Theaterisation of armed forces, selfreliance in the
defence sector and evolving threats in the region will be the focus. It is a premier brainstorming event of
the Military Commanders from the three Services.

f Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and
Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga come together for the first QUAD Summit. The meeting was held
virtually during which the four participants will exchange views on different areas of cooperation like
maintaining a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region, COVID-19, emerging and critical
technologies, maritime security, and climate change.
f Under the chairship of India, the First Meeting of the BRICS Contact Group on Economic and Trade Issues
(CGETI) was held from 9th March 2021 to 11th March 2021. The 2021 theme of the BRICS is
“BRICS@15: Intra BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation, and Consensus”. India presented
the calendar of events for BRICS CGETI 2021, this includes the priority areas for deliverables, schedule
and scope of the MSME roundtable conference workshop on Services Statistics, and the BRICS Trade Fair.
f The India-Finland Virtual Summit was held on March 16, 2021, with the participation of Prime Minister
Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland Ms Sanna Marin. The virtual summit was
organised to discuss the entire gamut of bilateral issues as well as other regional and multilateral issues
of mutual interest.
f The Sixth India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Women's Forum meeting was held virtually. The Forum
discussed key issues that contribute towards the transformation of women's lives. At the end of the
conference, a joint declaration was also issued highlighting the shared IBSA goals and commitments for
achieving gender equality in all spheres of life.

NATHEALTH. The summit focused on 'Indian Health system expansion in post-COVID era'. While

virtual summit on climate next month to underscore the urgency and the economic benefits of stronger

f External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will attend the 9th Ministerial Conference of Heart of Asia –
Istanbul Process on Afghanistan at Dushanbe in Tajikistan.

f Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman has participated virtually in the
Second G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting. This meeting held under
the Italian Presidency to discuss policy responses to global challenges to restore strong, sustainable,
balanced and inclusive growth.
f Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the 103rd
Meeting of the Development Committee Plenary, via video conferencing. During the meeting, she shared
the measures taken to combat COVID-19 including social support measures for the poor and vulnerable,
and relief measures for firms in statutory and regulatory compliance matters.
f Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mr Mark Rutte, held a Virtual
Summit. During the India- Netherlands virtual Summit, the two leaders reviewed the existing bilateral
engagements and also exchanged views on further expanding and diversifying the relationship in trade
and economy, water management, agriculture sector, smart cities, science & technology, healthcare and
space.
f Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 2021 “Raisina Dialogue”, through video-conferencing.
The Raisina Dialogue 2021 is the sixth edition of the annual dialogue, organised from April 13 to 16,
2021, in full digital form for the first time due to the coronavirus pandemic. The theme for the 2021

Summit meeting. During the Summit meeting, both the leaders unveiled an ambitious 10- year road map
to elevate the India-UK bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The UK prime
minister Boris Johnson announced a new India-UK trade investment worth £1 billion.
f The first-ever India-France-Australia Trilateral Foreign Ministerial Dialogue was held in London, UK, on
the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting. The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister,
Dr S. Jaishankar from India, France's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian and
Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Marise Payne.
f Union Minister of State for Tourism & Culture (I/c), Prahlad Singh Patel participated in G20 Tourism
Ministers' Meeting held in Italy on 4th May 2021. This dialogue aimed to collaborate in protecting tourism
businesses, jobs and taking initiatives to frame policy guidelines to support the sustainable and resilient
recovery of travel and tourism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the IndiaEU Leaders'
Meeting, held in a hybrid format. The India-European Union Leaders' Meeting is hosted by Portugal.
Portugal currently holds the chair of the grouping. PM Modi attended the event at the invitation of the
President of the European Council Mr Charles Michel.
f The first BRICS Employment Working Group (EWG) Meeting was held in 2021 in virtual format. The
