Mr. Alexandru Dorus. The hotel is looking very good and the staff and service
is looking the best I have seen for number of years. Unfortunately the Vietnam
Tourism economy is not looking so positive, so there are many challenges for
Alex.

- Property going well despite the soft market.
- Planning for two days electricity shutdown for the next week – huge disrup-
tion to operation and income.
* Evening: Interviewing potential Executives to joining Swiss-Belhotel Interna-
tional.

* Afternoon: Meeting with Owner of hotel in Auckland, New Zealand – looks

* Attended ANZPHIC with Ms. Kelye Woodgate, our General Manager of The
York by Swiss-Belhotel.

Made very good contacts and our display stand was well received and of
course again everyone
wanted the SBI “Bernie” Dog. This is giving Huge Exposure for SBI.
- Saturday – Tuesday, 28th – 31st July:
* Working at The York by Swiss-Belhotel, Sydney, Australia and meetings with
our consultants and advisors – our legal counsel; our lawyers; tax accoun-
tants; marketing and branding advisors and
accounts with Mr. Michael Flynn.

The York by Swiss-Belhotel team working very hard despite the challenges
of the last three months when the business “dropped out of bed” due to
economic implications in Australia.
The York by Swiss-Belhotel also closed for two days for major electrical
repairs, which had a huge impact on our business, but the operation covered
very quickly.
Thanks to huge team work under very stressful conditions.
- Wednesday, 01st August:
* Flew Sydney, Australia – Auckland, New Zealand.
Worked on further proposals in New Zealand.
- Thursday - Saturday, 02nd - 04th August: Worked in Auckland, New Zea-
land Regional Office and kept pumping out e-mails.

* Thursday evening: Attend Ernst & Young New Zealand Entrepreneur of The
Year Finalist Announcement Cocktail Party.
- Sunday, 05th August:
* 15 hours flying Auckland, New Zealand – Sydney, Australia – Jakarta,
Indonesia with Mr. Matthew D. Faull (our newly appointed Vice President –
Information Technology) and his wife

Our resources and our teams are growing very positively and Swiss-Belhotel

- Tuesday, 07th August: Jakarta, Indonesia.
Whole day in Regional and Group Office working with the new Senior Execu-
tives at both Group and Regional levels and setting objectives and targets.
- Wednesday, 08th August:
* Morning:
- Flew to Hong Kong – arrived mid afternoon.
* 4:00 PM meeting and negotiations and signing of new apartment hotel in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Take over first October – announcement will be
made.
- Thursday, 09th August:
* Morning:
- Flew Hong Kong – Manila with Mr. Emmanuel Guillard.
* Meetings all day with property and hotel investors.
- Friday, 10th August:
* All day meetings with property and hotel investors continued including
architects.
Meetings very positive and expect to sign some deals within three months
especially Zest Hotels.
* Evening: Returned to Hong Kong and Mr. Guillard returned to Jakarta.
- Saturday, 11th August:
* Working all day with Senior Executives of Swiss-Belhotel International.
- Sunday, 12th August:
* Whole day flew Hong Kong – Beijing – Changchun.
* Arrived at 5:00 PM and was met by a very nice young lady who had waited
half the day to meet me to thank me for the support Swiss-Belhotel Changc-
hun had given her and enabled her to get an education.
She was one of the Swiss-Belhotel Changchun “orphan children” and she
had tears in her eyes when she said she would never forget Swiss-Belhotel
International.
What a moment of great satisfaction for me and for all the Executives at
Swiss-Belhotel Changchun to receive such an emotional appreciation.
This not only is a great chance for this young “orphan”, but also is a great
process of team building and appreciation of all the staff at Swiss-Belhotel
Changchun.

China to review possible project.

* Met Owners and visited project site. Exciting resort. High chance of signing

* Evening: Flew Haikou to Shanghai with Mr. Steve Jui.
Met two business people on the plane – separately – who are in hotel
development in a big way. Both investors very interested in Swiss-Belhotel
International and a meeting will be set up within one month. Remember, when
you meet someone it is always an opportunity. It is up to you, whether it is
positive or negative.
- Tuesday, 28th August:
* Worked with China Regional Office team.
* Evening: Business dinner with large budget hotel Group wanting to work
with Swiss-Belhotel International.
- Wednesday, 29th August:
* Travelled by train to Wuxi with Mr. Steve Jui.
Visited hotel development of Swiss-Belhotel Liyuan, Wuxi. Developing fast. 20
Executives already recruited and working and the team is very positive.
Great welcome.
Soft opening in December, but they have a lot of work to do. General Manag-
er, Mr. Nathan Huang doing an excellent job.
* Afternoon: Trained back to Shanghai and flew to Hong Kong.
- Thursday, 30th August:
* Hong Kong Corporate Head office – working with the team.
A lot going on with budgeting and new projects.

Friday, 31st August:
* Flew Hong Kong to Jakarta, Indonesia.
* Afternoon: In the Group and Regional Office.
* Signed three more Management Contracts in Indonesia. AMAZING. CON-
GRATULATIONS YET AGAIN TO MR. EMMANUEL GUILLARD AND HIS
TEAM!!!!!
* Evening: Opening dinner of The Gallery – the Designer Restaurant in Hotel
Ciputra Jakarta.
Excellent dinner and entertainment and a full restaurant. Guests were very
impressed.
Congratulations to General Manager, Mr. Darren Earle and his team.
- Saturday, 01st September:
Heavy work day with Regional Executives, Group Human Resources and
Learning Development, Group Sales and Marketing, Group e-Commerce,
Group Information Technology.
With the expansion of the Group, there is a lot of development work required.

Quiet day. E-mails and administration.

Working with The York by Swiss-Belhotel team – reviewing budgets; growing
the business after a tough six months.
Also working with consultants on Australian opportunities. Tough market to

Attended Black Tie HM Magazine Awards Evening with Executives of The

We had several nominations for awards, however we did not manage to win.

- Sunday, 09th September: Flew Sydney to Singapore.

Again, great opportunity to grow our already impressive booking systems and
e-Commerce further.

Attended “Economy Hotels World Asia 2012” with Mr. Emmanuel Guillard.
Very interesting and again shows us the business opportunity of the budget
sector especially our Swiss-Belinn and Zest brands.

* Afternoon: Flew to Bangkok, Thailand.
- Met Mr. Ernst Zimmermann, Senior Vice President Swiss-Belhotel Interna-
tional.
- Met with Owners of an operating 4 star hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Excellent
meetings and hope to make an announcement before the end of 2012 of a
hotel in Thailand.
- Thursday, 13th September: Bangkok, Thailand.
* Meetings all day in Bangkok with International property company and also
interviewed Executives wishing to join Swiss-Belhotel International.
A very positive trip to Thailand.
* Evening: Overnight flight to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
- Friday, 14th September: Dubai, UAE.
* Met with Mr. Magdi Samman, Regional Director of Operations & Develop-
ment The Middle East.
* Again, interviewing Executives who want to join Swiss-Belhotel International.
* Meeting with International Marketing Company.
* Meeting with Developers regarding opportunities in the Maldives.
* Meeting with Investment Advisors.
* Meeting with finder of properties in Saudi Arabia – hope to be able to make
an announcement by December.

* Working in SBI Middle East Regional Office.
* Reviewed a hotel development in Dubai – again, hope to be able to make an
announcement by late this year.
A very positive day.
* Evening: Flew to Doha, Qatar – checked into Swiss-Belhotel Doha. Hotel
operating well and it is always good to be in one of our hotels and feel like I
am “coming home”.
- Sunday, 16th September: Doha, Qatar.
* All day meeting with General Manager, Mr. Makram Najjar and his team.
Challenging times with the political unrest in The Middle East, but Swiss-Bel-
hotel Doha still positive and operating well.
* Met with the Owner, Mr. Ghazi – a very positive meeting.
* Late evening: Flew overnight Doha to Bahrain.
OR WE WERE MEANT TO, BUT DUE TO A “TECHNICAL” COMMUNICATION
HITCH BETWEEN MR. MAGDI SAMMAN AND MR. GAVIN M. FAULL, WE
MISSED OUR FLIGHT BY 5 MINUTES AND HAD TO SPEND 7 HOURS IN
THE DEPARTURE LOUNGE WAITING FOR THE NEXT FLIGHT!!!!!
- Monday, 17th September: Bahrain.
* Morning: Meeting with the Owners of Swiss-Belhotel Seef, Bahrain.
Developing very well and this hotel should be open within one year!!!!!
* Afternoon: Met with another developer building a resort hotel in Bahrain.
Negotiations are at an advanced stage and we hope to be able to make an
announcement next month.
Bahrain feeling the effects of the political unrest, but the city is still positive and
developing.
* Evening: Flight to Kuwait checking into Swiss-Belhotel Kuwait – great to be
“home”.
- Tuesday, 18th September: Kuwait.
* Meetings with General Manager, Mr. Ali Haddad and several department
heads. Very challenging hotel, but General Manager and staff working very
hard to build the business. Operation looks very positive.
* Long luncheon meeting with the Owner’s Representative – very positive, but
always wants stronger results.
* Evening: Flight back to Dubai, UAE.
- Wednesday, 19th September: Dubai, UAE.
* Day in the SBI ME Regional Office working with the team.
* Overnight flight Dubai to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
- Thursday, 20th September:

Working with the group and sbi indonesia regional office team – signing more
contracts.
- Tuesday, 04th september: overnight flight to sydney, australia.

Working with the york by swiss-belhotel team – reviewing budgets; growing
the business after a tough six months.
Also working with consultants on australian opportunities. Tough market to
break into.

Attended black tie hm magazine awards evening with executives of the york
by swiss-belhotel.
We had several nominations for awards, however we did not manage to win.

interesting and again shows us the business opportunity of the budget sector
especially our swiss-belinn and zest brands.

* Morning: economy hotels world asia 2012 conference continues.
* Afternoon: flew to Bangkok, Thailand.
- Met mr. Ernst zimmermann, senior vice president swiss-belhotel
international.
- Met with owners of an operating 4 star hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Excellent
meetings and hope to make an announcement before the end of 2012 of a
hotel in thailand.
- Thursday, 13th September: Bangkok, Thailand.
* Meetings all day in bangkok with international property company and also
interviewed executives wishing to join swiss-belhotel international.
A very positive trip to thailand.
* Evening: overnight flight to dubai, united arab emirates (uae).
- Friday, 14th september: dubai, uae.
* Met with mr. Magdi samman, regional director of operations & development
the middle east.
* Again, interviewing executives who want to join swiss-belhotel international.
* Meeting with international marketing company.
* Meeting with developers regarding opportunities in the maldives.
* Meeting with investment advisors.
* Meeting with finder of properties in saudi arabia – hope to be able to make
an announcement by december.
- Saturday, 15th september: dubai, united arab emirates.
* Working in sbi middle east regional office.
* Reviewed a hotel development in dubai – again, hope to be able to make an
announcement by late this year.
A very positive day.
* Evening: flew to doha, qatar – checked into swiss-belhotel doha. Hotel
operating well and it is always good to be in one of our hotels and feel like i
am “coming home”.
- Sunday, 16th september: doha, qatar.
* All day meeting with general manager, mr. Makram najjar and his team.
Challenging times with the political unrest in the middle east, but swiss-
belhotel doha still positive and operating well.
* Met with the owner, mr. Ghazi – a very positive meeting.
* Late evening: flew overnight doha to bahrain.

Or we were meant to, but due to a “technical” communication hitch between
mr. Magdi samman and mr. Gavin m. Faull, we missed our flight by 5 minutes
and had to spend 7 hours in the departure lounge waiting for the next flight!!!!!
- Monday, 17th september: bahrain.
* Morning: meeting with the owners of swiss-belhotel seef, bahrain.
Developing very well and this hotel should be open within one year!!!!!
* Afternoon: met with another developer building a resort hotel in bahrain.
Negotiations are at an advanced stage and we hope to be able to make an
announcement next month.
Bahrain feeling the effects of the political unrest, but the city is still positive and
developing.
* Evening: flight to kuwait checking into swiss-belhotel kuwait – great to be
“home”.
- Tuesday, 18th september: kuwait.
* Meetings with general manager, mr. Ali haddad and several department
heads. Very challenging hotel, but general manager and staff working very
hard to build the business. Operation looks very positive.
* Long luncheon meeting with the owner’s representative – very positive, but
always wants stronger results.
* Evening: flight back to dubai, uae.
- Wednesday, 19th september: dubai, uae.
* Day in the sbi me regional office working with the team.
* Overnight flight dubai to kuala lumpur, malaysia.
- Thursday, 20th september:

* Reviewed a possible new project in kuala lumpur, malaysia – looking very
positive.
* Evening: flew to jakarta, indonesia.
- Saturday, 06th october:
* Worked with the group and regional offices.
* Met with another developer for a hotel in ubud, bali – we have the deal if it
fits our criteria.
- Sunday, 07th october:
* Flew jakarta – singapore – manila with mr. Emmanuel guillard.
- Monday, 08th october:
Vice president global sales swiss-belhotel international - ms. Anna s. Kong
joined us.
Exciting times as we develop a group sales division.

samui, thailand.
* 12:30 Pm: finalised negotiations and signed mou – wow, what a result!!!

samui developers.

awards. What an exciting evening.

Diary looks a bit repetitive. There was a slow down in SBI over New Year, but
we are now all back and full swing.

Today, Thursday, 17th January, huge floods in Jakarta and most of the team
stranded at home.

Welcome 2013

Dear All

Welcome to 2013 a huge year for Swiss-Belhotel International.
We have huge challenges due to our expansion and also due to market,
owners and competitor demands.
2012 was a very successful year however we have seen many shortcomings.
In 2013 we will be operating on KPIs and really having visible and budget
management systems.
These can only be achieved by total professionalism at all levels.
I will spend time with each division and each region to get focus and to lift our
performances.
We had many performance challenges in 2012 and we must focus on these

challenges. Overall we were 10% below in Group Revenue compared to
budget and of course well below at GOP and management fee level.
You all know my 10 commitments for 2013 and these will be achieved.
There will be focus on sales and marketing divisions which have been recently
restructured and additional executives employed.
We will develop IT and E-commerce where we must deliver on our promises.
We must make the operations budget responsible and the General Managers
will be called upon to achieve.
But as I say we are a management company – not a consulting company.
We will lift our standards.
We will lift our achievements.
We must achieve budged results.
As the key managing executives I rely on you to make this happen.
Team work is critical

Guillard for the opening of Swiss-Belhotel Harbour Bay, Batam our latest new
four star hotel.

What a proud day for Swiss-Belhotel International and also a personally proud
day for Mr. Emmanuel Guillard and myself.
How the staff worked so hard to develop this property and the day went
without a hitch.
Emmanuel and I were so proud to see General Manager, Mr. Denny Jatnika
who started as a very young hotelier almost 20 years ago in Hotel Ciputra
Jakarta.
Who has now move up through the company to become the first
General Manager in Swiss-Belhotel International to manage three hotels
simultaneously in Batam, Indonesia.
He has an amazing quiet exceptional over achiever.
Well done Denny and congratulations to you and your Passionate and
Professional Staff.

* With Mr. Guillard travelled by ferry to Singapore and flew Singapore to Hanoi,
Vietnam.
* Joined by Mr. Raymond Zuest, Regional Director of Operations & Projects
who arrived from Lao Cai, Vietnam where we will be opening a new Swiss-
Belhotel in three months time.
- Monday, 21st January: Vietnam.
* Meetings with owners of Swiss-Belhotel Golden Sand Resort & Spa, Hoi An
and presenting TET gifts.

Swiss-Belhotel.
What an exciting development in a valley high up in the hills – beautiful golf
course with 9 holes completed and construction on the hotels about to begin.
Carried out site inspections and had dinner with the Owners. We have just
been awarded the management of the Golf Club House which has 25 suites
and will open within the next six months.
A very successful visit.

Met with the Chairman of the owning company of Swiss-Belhotel Lao Cai and
presented TET gifts.
Very positive but demanding meeting.

* Bali Cluster Sales Meeting chaired by Mr. Chris MacLean.
Attended by SBI Jakarta Office staff and SBI Bali Office staff and General
Managers and sales personnel of the four properties in Bali.
Very successful and positive. Critical meeting as SBI plans for the huge
expansion in Bali.
This cluster meeting will be held quarterly.
Great to feel the Passion and Professionalism of the Bali SBI and hotel
Executives.

Two new GMs from our two hotels in Hefei and as they did not attend General
Managers’ Conference, was very important in briefing them on SBI and our
culture.

Dear Team,

I must apologise for not writing the President’s Reflections for the past
six months. But it has been a hectic time as we have encountered many
challenges. And it has been a huge omission on my part to “over look” this
communication.
My apologies – I feel that I have been consumed “Solving Issues” rather
than leading and really setting and defining the company culture, but the
President’s Reflections are back.
Unfortunately, we had to postpone the General Managers’ Conference for a
number of reasons which I explained in my e-mail.
I would make the point, that is not “An Invitation” to attend the General
Managers’ Conference – it is mandatory and it is only I who can approve
a very special situation where a General Manager does not attend. This is
critical to our culture and critical to passion and professionalism.
If a General Manager can not take three days out in 365 days to attend such
an important event, then there are deeper issues with the particular General
