From the
EDITOR’S DESK
“It’s still a long road ahead, but the fight is still on.”
The things that matter to us in the world have been accomplished by all the
unyielding men and women in the worst of circumstances even when there was no
hope at all.
I welcome our members to this latest issue of the ELITE GAZETTE by the Rotary
Club of Mumbai Western Elite. I’m sure everyone is already quite aware of the
ongoing situation with the pandemic, being a threat to not only the economy but to
our lives, it begs the question: What’s going to happen next? How long are we going
to keep fighting this invisible threat, whose effects are very much perceivable? In all
honesty, no one really knows but, one thing is for certain, that this distance has
united us more than ever before.
Even now, as you’re reading this, countless people are making a choice. A choice
that may even put them in harm’s way, but it is one that they continue to make
regardless of their safety because it is what they must. It may be out of compassion
or a sense of responsibility, but it ultimately comes down to a simpler reason which
is “if we don’t, then who will?”
While the entire world was worried about itself and remained indoors, the MWE
family was not only out on the roads, feeding the hungry, helping and protecting
doctor and medical staff, providing life-saving equipment to hospitals, food to
migrants and giving medicines to the community at large, it also kept everyone
engaged with various family events, thereby keeping the bond and morale high of
not only the members but also their families at large.
It’s gratifying for me to share with you many more such examples of our
accomplishments in hopes to inspire and encourage others to come forward to aid
those in need.
My deepest compliments and best wishes to you all who continue to keep up the
good fight.

Every Year, I am amazed by our leaders of MWE, who use innovation,
ideas, and service to create impact and do good for the society at
large. I feel inspired. Every time we read and edit a story, we’re
empowered and comforted by the fact that there are people out
there fulfilling their own missions to turn a difficult story into a good
story. By doing what we all do, one gets to fulfil a mission by
delivering the message that we all have a voice and the power to
make a difference.
I enjoy being part of the Editorial Team of MWE. It is a formidable
team to say the least.
It has been an amazing year working with an inspiring Lady President
Shelza. No one could have been more responsible, more resourceful
and more relevant than our Smart PST.
I am excited about what the future holds, online and in print; as the
Rotary Wheel moves to the 'Vision Year'.

I express my gratitude and feel very proud to be a part of such an
amazing club and the wonderful editorial team. Joining the EG team
has been one of the best decisions I have made. I have learnt so

Each member of the Editorial team has its unique perspective which
makes the process of showcasing the events every quarter
challenging. I am a deep admirer of our club and must say the
maturity gained by the club in its multiple work areas poses a
constant dilemma in presenting them. I personally like such an
environment which keeps the thinking bud ticking. I thank the club
and the team for this opportunity. Best wishes

I am honoured to be a member of EG team. This role gives me the
opportunity to showcase to the world, extraordinary projects being
done by our club MWE. Working with fellow EG members, who all
are stalwarts, has been a great learning experience for me. Motto of
EG Team is work hard, party harder!!!
Rtn. Amit Sureka
Teamwork is the collaborative effort of a group to achieve a common
goal or to complete a task in the most effective and efficient way.
This is what we have been targeting to achieve in our EG group to
make this magazine a super successful story.
It has been a pleasure being part of this team. The spirit and
camaraderie between each member showcases virtues of
togetherness, excellence and hardwork. This association has not only
helped me personally but has stimulated in me a sense of confidence
and conviction. Apart from the work, the celebratory times that I have
spent with this group will be with me as cherished memories.

It is good to be back in the EG team, with more excitement and
passion to contribute consistently.
Rotary MWE and Rotary International have a purpose and the
purpose is strongly rooted with belief, bonding and an inner urge to
serve. As an avid reader and a big fan of EG, myself and others have
always been proud of the rich content, the scale of coverage and the
creative presentation of all EG issues.
While anchoring the June Events (last month of SMART Year) started
the urge of doing more and contributing towards the cause of
spreading awareness and happiness hence glad to be reunited with
this youthful team full of zeal especially apt to serve in this Vision Year.
The aim would be to participate, contribute, infuse more creativity,
learn more and thus build EG along with other serving platforms.
MWE has been a pioneer for the last 5+ years and it’s a proud feeling
that our friends from other geographies and clubs applaud this big
family for almost all of our initiatives and versatility.
In these unpredictable challenging times, the Vision Year would
redefine the belief that the true essence of Rotary would be
undefinable as life itself. This year we would reinforce and strengthen
the pillars of simplicity, serving, sincerity and most importantly an
optimistic global Rotarian.

SHUKRIYA MESSAGE FROM
THE PRESIDENT
Dear Smart Rotarians and my Elite Rotary Family
By the time this issue of EG reaches you, we all would have entered into a new
chapter of Rotary – the Vision year. As rightly quoted by Paulin R. Kezer, “continuity
gives us roots, changes give us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new
heights”. Each Rotary year for MWE has been so unique in itself and each president
has contributed his heart and soul to give MWE its due recognition in the Rotary
world and Rotary Dist 3141, I am sure our incoming Vision president and his
Visionaries will pilot MWE to new heights. Wishing them all the very best for a
successful year.
The journey of the Smart year has been very rewarding and enriching. I am humbled
that I was given the chance to serve as the 1st Lady President of this Elite Club.
Working with a bunch of committed Rotarians and members with full dedication
and passion was truly amazing. You never ceased to amaze me. It was because of
each one of you that we were able to accomplish some difficult targets.
Just to name a few –
• Highest membership growth in District 3141 by adding 38 new members
• Filing 7 global grants and contributing $1,40,000 to TRF is a milestone in itself
• Registering MWE’s RCC of Adarsh Nagar
• Getting Platinum RI Presidential citation
• 50 International flag exchanges
• 66 pediatric heart surgeries
• 24 cancer patients’ treatment
• 49 cataract surgeries
• Providing mid day meals to 1400 students
• Installing solar street lights in Aarey, Palghar and Talasari

and many more countless projects towards betterment of community and mankind.
It might sound as if I am blowing my horns, be clear that it’s you club members who
have made all this possible. After all it’s the Team work that acts as the fuel that
enables common people to attain uncommon results.
The outbreak of COVID19 has created an unprecedented situation around the world.
But our team has shown great alacrity and competence in meeting the extraordinary
challenge. By reaching out to all those in need right from children to senior citizens,
from abled to specially abled, transgenders, blind, reaching them even at remotest
corner, the team has proved their mettle during such testing times. I bow in
gratitude. The definition and meaning of team work is not found in books, but in
team members like you.
The outbreak has forced us to keep a respectable distance from one another, we
have been missing all the fun and fellowship that we used to enjoy and look forward
to, but this new normal has also kept us going, with some unconventional ways like
online platform, to connect with each one of you. Thank you for your understanding
and support for the same once again.
As I step down today, relieved and satisfied, looking forward to sharing seat with the
august group of past presidents and continue to contribute by doing my bit and
wish you all the best in your Rotary journey. Keep attending, keep meeting, keep
giving, keep up the momentum, keep yourself involved in Rotary activities and enjoy
Rotary always. Once a Rotarian, always a Rotarian, Rotary gives you -
R - respect
O - opportunity
T - trust
A - adaptability

SHUKRIYA MESSAGE FROM
THE SECRETARY
Dear Smarties
It’s indeed a special moment for me to make my concluding remarks for the current year
of my role as the Club Secretary.
This one year in specific has been very elevating and rewarding, totally changed me as a
person and I feel that I was truly fortunate to have taken up this assignment / role. I have
been associated with Rotary world for over eighteen years, out of which the most
promising part has been the association with MWE, over the past three years which has
totally realigned my perspective. Hence I always say that there have been a lot of
takeaways for me.
The Smart year has been quite eventful for MWE. We have scaled new heights whether
it be on membership front, global grants, various medical and service activities,
international flag exchanges or our COVID related relief tasks which made our presence
felt widely both in Rotary world and the community at large. While people were tucked
up in their houses trying to stay away from the pandemic, our Covid warriors were on the
ground trying to help in every possible way. This SPIRIT of MWE has indeed unfolded the
meaning of the Principal motto of Rotary “Service above self”.
At this juncture I would express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every member who
has contributed in his / her own special way for the overall growth of the club. When a 5
year old club starts being a lead host for major district events it speaks volumes and
showcases the quantum of confidence that the District has in us. Am sure, there would
be a time in near future that MWE would be hosting the District Conference as well.
I would surely miss the daily part of sending birthdays and anniversary wishes to our
members, giving me the opportunity to be the first mover in sharing their joy. I
respectfully and humbly acknowledge the suggestions and deliberations provided by
our members at various meetings of the club which were really thought provoking and
helped us shape / guide the club in a new direction.
I would sincerely like to thank the entire Smart BOD for showing us the correct path and
also give my best wishes to the VISION team. I personally thank and congratulate
President Shelza for being the most passionate Rotarian, a true inspiring leader and
setting an unbeatable benchmark as the first Lady President. I express my gratitude to
Treasurer Vikas Ji for his continuous guidance and support throughout the year.
To conclude I would say, just like time flies over us but leaves its shadow behind, hope
even we have left a few distinctive footprints which shall always be positively
remembered.
Forever in Rotary

SHUKRIYA MESSAGE FROM THE
THE TREASURER
Dear Rotarian Friends
It is said, “All well which ends well”. Friends, the Rotary Year 2019-20 has ended and
has ended well and rather I believe has ended with a superlative performance. The
various accolades and expressions speak for it.
It has been a satisfying year for me as well. We have ensured that the club finances
are under control, all the required compliances are duly done and the dues are timely
collected. We shall be having surplus balance of more than `17 lakhs in our admin
fund which has helped the club to reduce the membership fee for the coming year.
We have been able to submit the audited accounts of the Club, for both Trust and
Admin, for the year ended March 2020 in record time inspite of the COVID situation
in the city.
The members of the club have come forward and have ensured that the wheel of
ROTARY towards SERVICE keeps ROTATING and there is never any shortage of
funds. A significant amount was raised from CSR and from major donors which has
helped the club to get various Global Grants.
Thank you President Shelza for assigning me this responsibility and being a great
leader. I have personally seen your dedication, planning and involvement for each
and every activity of the club and I can only say, “UNBELIEVABLE”.
My compliments to Secretary Tarun for always going an extra mile for the benefit of
the club. My sincere thanks to the Board of Directors for their support and guidance
throughout.
At last, my heartfelt gratitude to each and every member of the club for their
continued support and encouragement throughout the year. You made this club
reach new milestones. Big thanks to all of you.
Friends, every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. So, now let’s
welcome the new year, new team and new ideas with renewed commitments to
make it the BEST.
Bye and take care

SHUKRIYA NIGHT.....
the voices of gratitude galore!
Everything that has a beginning comes to an end. A good bottle of wine, a summer’s day, a
long running sitcom and even a Smart Rotary year. The most beautiful way to end
something is with a grateful heart.
Our 5th Shukriya night event, although virtual, was set to the tone of Gratitude. The Smart
PST whole heartedly extended their gratitude to our Club Members, Board of Directors, our
Sponsors and each and every person who helped in scripting the success story of Smart
Rotary year.
The Event, on 27th June 2020, started on time with the usual fellowship and greetings. The
entire event was hosted in a unique way by two exemplary Rotarian Anchors –Doctor Rtn.
Dr. Vrushali Saraswat and Captain Rtn. Sunil Khosla and the efforts of the monthly team
members who kept us entertained with their short videos as ice breakers. Both the hosts
enthralled the audience with their wit and impromptu interaction with the entire Rotary
family including College of Governors, various district dignitaries, Rotarians from various
clubs of Dist 3141 and international district, attending the event.
The MOCs introduced the Smart President in a novel way – presenting her with different
Avatar of dynamic ladies representing her versatile qualities and finally as “Jhansi Ki Rani”
which we believe she truly is, after handling a club of 232 members successfully and setting
benchmarks during the year. Blessings from her parents were not worth missing in this
entire event of gratitude.
Followed by communicating the mandatory protocol, the session was initiated by the
President Rtn. Shelza Choudhary. Maintaining the ritual of starting the ceremony by offering
prayer to God, a very mesmerizing “Bhakti Geet” was performed by two passionate Rotarian
kids – Miss Reeva Agrawal and Miss Aavya Khosla.
Our Hon. Club Secretary Rtn. Tarun Kedia was introduced by Captain and Doctor in a unique
way enacting as Superstar Rajesh Khanna, showing a brief glimpse and correlation of the
past and our Club Treasurer Rtn. Vikas Jhunjhunwala was introduced as the angry young
man, Amitabh Bachchan.
The big level shukriya event started, with the ‘Lagaan’ skit which reflected the completion of
all the tasks and projects (challenges) that were showcased and accepted by our Smart
President on the installation night a year back. The entire Skit was very well scripted and
enacted by our club members.
The Speech of Gratitude by our president, from her abode with a special podium and setup
gave a feeling of a real Physical Event rather than a Virtual one. Her speech was more than
just an expression of humility. It reflected love, hope, compassion, joy, reassurance and faith.
A melodious and superbly enacted Video by the board of directors and their spouses called
“Asshayein”, was a tribute to the smart year and the reason for its super success. Aptly
worded speech by our District Governor Rtn. Harjit Singh Talwar was truly motivating. His
words filled our heart with pride and we felt proud to be a Member of MWE under the able
leadership of our Smart President.
The 5th Elite Shukriya Awards Night had a plethora of reasons to applaud and celebrate. 88
trophies were awarded under different categories and segments including few surprise
segments which are categorised as under:

Apart from giving a unique theme and name to each Award category, the best
execution was arranging to send these trophies as a surprise to the family members of
the Award winners and handing over to them live on the screen and a token of
appreciation as well, that reached the door steps of all the 232 members, against all
odds. The Joy of receiving the prestigious award in front of more than 500+ people
and then pinning the same live on screen was an awesome experience for the families.
A surprise and top of the line Award was given to our Smart President Rtn. Shelza
Choudhary with aptly worded speech by Hon. Club Secretary Rtn. Tarun Kedia and
Club Treasurer Rtn. Vikas Jhunjhunwala. Icing on the cake was the surprise tart cake
baked by Rtr. Juhi Khemka daughter of our incoming president Rtn. Dinesh Khemka
for our outgoing President. Now it was time for cake cutting ceremony and some
memorable family moments.
Just before the end, the Smart PST thanked all the club members and their spouses
for one of the bestest years in Rotary and also wished all the luck to the Vision
President and Team.
At the End, the Anchors for the event thanked the record audience of 188+ Rotarians
and 500+ extended family members who enjoyed the 3 hours show continuously and
cooperated as well. They also thanked the organising team for all the support for the
entire hard / smart work done for the event.
The Team also added feathers by arranging a real feast for the Rotarian families by
home delivering a delicious Dominos Meal. This logistic challenge was very well
handled and everyone enjoyed the meal post the event especially during the

COVID-19...
the unprecedented challenge
Outbreak of COVID19 in China was like a big shock for us, till it soon became a part of our
lives in March of 2020. A unique virus outbreak of this nature and scale that brought the
entire human life on its knees.
Human beings, the only species that dared to set its foot on moon, now stands humbled
by a microorganism. Everything came to a standstill. Lockdown, respectful social
distancing, isolation, work from home, shifting the traffic from road to internet,
unconventional ways to connect with family and friends, all seemed like the new normal.
For us in Rotary, it was a turning point. All the festivals, celebrations, medical camps,
community service projects that were planned since months were now put on hold. Last
four months (March to June), wherein we wanted to hit boundaries, we were clean bowled
by this deadly virus outbreak.
But as they say, ‘embrace the uncertainty, when nothing is certain, everything is possible’.
The committed Eliters were determined not to give up, ideas started floating…. “let’s give
meals to BMC workers”, “we should help the daily wage earners”, “let’s distribute grain
kits or cooked meals”, “how can we support the kids who were getting mid-day meal”,
“poor front line workers are suffering, we must support them” …..ideas were floating,
execution was a challenge; as the virus kept us under guard and in lockdown. But our
desire was not suppressed. As they say, when you wish to do good, GOD always helps.
One of our members offered his entire restaurant and a team of 35 staff for storing and
packaging of food grain kits. This was just the start and link started building up. Someone
helped in sourcing the grains at the best possible rates, someone offered their transport
facility for logistics, someone helped with getting police permission, someone sourced
the packaging materials……the Rotary connect was working at its best to address the
need of the hour. Here once again we saw how Rotarians turn adversity into opportunity.

We started taking small steps. It was not a difficult situation for us but more difficult for
those who were risking their lives for the rest of us…yes the BMC, police, doctors, nurses
etc. Seven Hills Hospital was turned into a Covid centre but they did not have sufficient
supply of HIV kits, face masks and sanitizers. We took our first step in providing the same.
BMC was at the task of putting all street dwellers in BMC schools but did not know how
to feed them. With the help of our Eliters and their connects we provided cooked meals,
toiletries and other essentials to be given to these street dwellers. The BMC frontline
workers who came out to help the public were also provided with meals as and when
required. The belief that together we will weather the storm was sinking within us.
Our COVID task force team worked meticulously to address many more such needs. One
of our members had got a request to help the migrant labourers of Jharkhand. Our task
force team called each individual to ensure that they were in genuine need of food and
then made sure grain kits reached them timely. This was the basic practice followed by
them. Going out for deliveries in remote areas was definitely not an easy task during these
trying times. But the passion of addressing these needs kept them going on. Thousands
of such calls of cry were addressed by the task force team who worked day in and day out
to serve millions of people right from Palghar, Talasari, to Mumbai and remote slum areas.
The lockdown seemed never ending and our relief work was also unceasing. They catered
to the need from children to senior citizens, from abled to especially abled, trans genders,
blind people and so on. There may not have been a single instance when our task force
failed to extend a helping hand. They believed doing good is not just their duty, it’s a joy.
So much so that the team members themselves went to provide food even to the needy
animals of Borivali National Park. High protein diet meal was provided to the doctors and
frontline workers who rendered their service 24/7 against all odds. This would not have
been possible without much needed financial support from our club members, family,
friends and corporates who came forward to contribute for the cause. The list of the relief
work is endless. We did not only stick to food or grains but also continued giving some
life saving devices like the high flow nasal cannula machine as suggested by one of our
senior members. This machine helps in saving one COVID patient every day and has
proved to be of immense use in the hospitals. In fact after seeing the result of these
machines, BMC decided to provide the same to all BMC hospitals and even our club came
forward to give 9 such machines to various charitable hospitals. Apart from this our list
includes protective gears, medical equipments, ambulance, dead body bags, medicines,
high flow nasal cannula machines, dialysis machines and many more such things.
One of the most effective services rendered by our club was the distribution of immunity
booster homeopathic pills suggested by one of our own member who is a homeopath
practitioner. A group of Rotarians took the task of making and distributing this medicine
to our members, their respective societies, family friends and staff. What could have been
a better way of helping our fellow citizens.

A Spiritual Experience
When any crisis or a disaster strikes, first thing
any human would do is to pray to GOD.
Prayers are considered to be a sacred
connective act. It not only connects us to God
but also gives us strength and courage to deal
with any crisis. On the occasion of Ram
Navami on 2nd April, online live session of
meditation was organized with Shri Shri Ravi

Speaker Session with Rtn. Kamal Sanghvi
One of the most high profile events of the month was the speaker session
on 3rd April by none other than Rotary International Director – Rtn.
Kamal Sanghvi. He needs no introduction to the world of Rotary and he
is one of the most awe inspiring speakers in Rotary world. Hailing from a
Rotary family and a Rotarian by soul, he tried to instil in us some ethics of
Rotary. He emphasized that as Rotarians we should aim at bigger and
better projects rather than just distributing notebooks and pens. Our aim
should be building schools that would benefit the community at large. He
also stressed on the importance of contributing to TRF.
According to him FOUNDATION is a temple for Rotarians and this is the only temple
where we get by giving. He beautifully explained how any contribution made to
Foundation comes back to us for our projects in the form of global grants, multi-folded.
Moreover these funds are utilized to address the global needs - polio eradication is one
such example. As Rotarians we have the power to bring a change world over and we need
to think BIG. His words were so inspiring that it kept everyone glued for hours together.
Our club is thankful to him for taking out time for us out of his busy schedule. His
extraordinary orating skills kept the audience bound to the session. Event was virtually
well attended by our members. Our district governor Rtn. Harjit Singh Talwar was also
present. Our members have heard Rtn. Sanghvi earlier in the DTA in April 2018 that was
hosted by MWE. That time also we were awestruck by his oratory powers and same
happened this time also. We hope to hear him soon again.
5-Minutes Challenge
During the lockdown period, on 7th April 2020, when
members started getting bored and lethargic towards
the routine at home, Rtn. Ankit Bagadia, successfully
got some energy back to life by organizing a fun filled
task based challenge game for the members. In this
game, members were given different tasks and they
had five minutes to complete the task and post
picture/video of the same. Not only members, even
their families were a part of this activity. The game was
enjoyed by one and all and turned out to be a success.
Six tasks were given and 18 winners were announced.
Winners were awarded with designer coasters and

Rohan Singal on 16th April, 2020. Chief Guest for the event
was DG Rtn. Harjit Singh Talwar. Mr. Rohan Singal is an
author, leadership coach and collaboration specialist. He is
an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Kolkata. He is cofounder of
Rejoiss Learning – a Workplace Collaboration Specialist
firm. He had mentored 300+ individuals 1-on-1 and has
trained 3000+ individuals through workshops. We were
privileged to have him as our speaker. His topic of
discussion was – “Hi Conflict, Bye Conflict”. He has also
authored a book on this topic. In his one hour power pack
presentation, Mr. Rohan highlighted the importance,
shared framework and various methods on how to resolve conflicts with people who
matter – both in personal and professional life. This is more important during lockdown
when families are spending more time together. He asked us to use this lockdown as an
opportunity to introspect and create authenticity in the relationships. He shared examples
and emphasized the importance of being genuine in all situations. It was a thought
provoking insight. He also answered the queries of members on how to resolve potential
conflict situations in the family. We hope all members would follow his recommendations
both in their family and professional life and improve their relationships.
Ramayana based Antakshari
An innovative Antakshari was organized by April team on
19th April. Who would have thought a few months back
that Antakshari can also be organized on whatsapp. But,
our members have successfully leveraged technology to
make sure that bonding within the club members is not
diminished even during this time of lockdown and social
distancing. This Antakshari was unique in the sense that it
was based on a theme, that was Ramayana. Hosts for the
evening were Mr. Arjun Kainya and Ms. Kritika Kainya
(children of our PP Rtn. Anil Kainya). They presented the
members with various situations out of Ramayana and
members had to sing a Bollywood song which they
thought would be most apt for the given situation.
Members had 30 seconds to sing and record the first few lines of the song and post the
audio recording on our whatsapp group. Members enthusiastically participated in the
event. Best part is we managed to discover many bathroom singers within our group who
otherwise never would have come on stage to sing. Congratulations to the winners Rtn.

Speaker Session with Dr. Jaswant Patil
We had the privilege to invite Dr. Jaswant
Patil for online speaker session on 20th
April. Dr. Jaswant Patil is an Allopath as well
as a homoeopath. He is practicing for last
35 years. He was once a staunch allopath
and a strong critic of homoeopathy. In his
experience, in his own allopathy nursing
home, after using homoeopathy, he got
satisfying results without any side effects.
Thereafter he chose to be a homoeopath
also. His journey in allopathy started in JJ
Hospital in 1978 and then continued in KEM Hospital, Jaslok Hospital, Sewri
TB hospital and Cooper Hospital.
In his personal experience, treating terminal stages and ICU patients with
homeopathy as an add on to allopathy support systems has been very
effective and it also helped him to overcome drug resistance and weakened
vital force. Results were early recovery and lifesaving. Homeopathy in a
routine practice gave positive results and proved to be a boon to the patients
suffering various specific diseases. He assures that if homeopathy is used
along with allopathy in treatment of Covid-19 then mortality rate will be bare
minimum. Allopathy is required for life support system and both are
complementary.
He stresses on the importance of “High Immunity” which is developed when
immunity is given a fair chance to fight by not suppressing body’s responses
like cold, cough, fever etc. Fever is body’s response to kill pathogens. He also
emphasized on respecting advisories issued by the Government like social
distancing, washing of hands for 20 seconds and cleaning all the vegetables
with disinfectants.
He suggests Arsenicum Album 200 once in 10 days for all. He recommends
‘Kaada ‘in Ayurveda made of Tulsi, Neem leaves, Haldi, Jeera, Green Dhaniya,
Garlic and Black Pepper should be taken in morning and at night, Zinc rich
food should be consumed and in Yoga, Suryanamaskar and Pranayam is
recommended along with small exercise to improve immunity. Hot Milk with
Haldi powder is best antiseptic and also has anticancer properties and one
cup may be consumed at night. Steam inhalation and hot water gargle is also
found to be effective in killing virus. Correct Homeopathic medicine can cure
COVID -19.

MWE Live Unlocking Retro
It is said nothing heals more than music. During end April, when everyone was scared
about further lockdowns and no one had heard the word – “Unlocking”, our MWE Live
band members, under the guidance of Rtn. Sameer Gambhir, were probably the first ones
in India to come up with “Unlocking Retro” on 21st April. The event "Unlocking Retro"
came as a huge relief for our club members. Our in-house band - MWE Live, with its
strong army of organizers and performers, gave a stupendous online performance. Our
vocalists and instrumentalists took the audience to the retro era of Hindi film music. One
word to describe the show is "Sensational". Anchors for the event were Rtn. Anil Kainya
and Rtn. Manish Murarka. Performers were Rtn. Rajesh Singhal, Rtn. Aparna Tamhankar,
Rtn. Shilpi Poddar, Rtn. Sameer Gambhir, Rtn. Raman Mittal, Rtn. Santosh Goel, Rtn.
Sarwan Saraf and Ann. Seema Goel. The event was so mesmerizing that many in the
audience decided to do impromptu performances. More events awaited from this
talented bunch of MWE members.
Quiz - Bharat ko Jaano
After Ramayana based Antakshari, another
fun filled and knowledge enhancing online
activity organized on 23rd April was the
quiz based on our beloved country India.
Hosts for the event were Mr. Arjun Kainya
and Ms. Kritika Kainya. While we all assume
that we know everything about our
country, this quiz helped us to know many
new things. So what if the questions
looked difficult, nothing is impossible for
our Smart Eliters. They managed to answer
even the trickiest ones in less than 30 seconds. It was a tough competition but Rtn.
Sanjeev Saraf was able to secure the first position with a clean sweep followed by Rtn.
Amit Saraswat. It was a pleasant surprise to witness the level of knowledge some of our
members have. In future, whenever there is district quiz competition, MWE will be among
the prime contenders to win.

easily. She beautifully explained the benefits of the same.
She not only demonstrated the asanas but also looked into
if each one was doing it correctly or not. Along with yoga
asanas she also gave us basic dietary tips to take care of our
health, during this lock down period. Tips shared by her
were simple and easily doable at home with readily available
ingredients. She has always believed in holistic development
of mind and body and this session was a live example of the

District Training Assembly and
Grants Management Seminar
MWE participated in one of the biggest district events i.e. District Training Assembly
(DTA) on 1st and 2nd May 2020. DTA is a training program aimed to train, educate and
motivate the incoming leaders and their team. It is designed with the view of sharing the
ideas and views of the vision year. In view of the lockdown across the country due to the
COVID19 Pandemic the District Rotary team had decided to organize the current year’s
DTA and Grants Management Seminar (GMS) through online medium. It was a
well-planned online training program that took place for the first time in the history of
district 3141. Rotary International President Holger Knaack inaugurated the session along
with First Lady Susanne.
The entire training session was meticulously planned and designed by the Vision Core
team. Only 30% time was spent on presentation by the faculty and 70% time was used for
Questions and Answers. This not only helped in clearing the doubts and query of many
but also gave everyone the chance to express their views and concerns for the upcoming
year and projects. Many also expressed their desire of getting connected to a particular
project. Moreover, the training session was attended by more than 800 participants. This,
in itself was a reward for the core team. It was an excellent two days of learning session
for all the members during the current lockdown period.
Such training has laid a strong robust foundation for VISION 2020. Thanks to the untiring
efforts of the District core team.

Wealth Lessons from

sessions are continued during the lockdown
times vide the digital platform. The first such
session was on –Wealth creation Lessons from
Ramayana and Mahabharata which was
delivered by our own Rtn. Prof. Saurabh Bajaj
on 9th May. We might have taken many
learnings about our culture and tradition from
epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, but
could we ever think about taking wealth lessons
from them. It was something beyond
imagination. But the way this topic was
presented by Prof. Bajaj, it not only sounded
simple but also made sense to incorporate these learnings in our day to day life and
practices. These epics have so much to teach us for every aspect of life that we did not
even know until someone like Prof. Bajaj presented to us in such a simplified manner. The
session received good amount of participation and members could enhance their
investing skills and gain correlation of all the investing concepts from our great epics.

amazed to see the amount of talent these kids have. Thanks to the efforts of Rtn. Sameer
Gambhir who took practice sessions for planning and fine tuning the sound and other
minute details required for the show. Thanks to the efforts of Rtn. Vishal and Past President
Rtn. Sandip for their efforts in coordinating the same. The event started with Ganesh
Vandana, followed by Spanish and English Mix songs sung by the participants, Duet Guitar
performance, Piano performance, mesmerizing dances and so on. Indeed there were power
packed performances by our own little rock stars. The event was graced by the presence of
our chief guest DGE Rtn. Sunnil Mehra and Rtn. Shilpi Mehra and also our AG Rtn. Tila Patel.

Speaker Session – Markets Beyond Covid
Once again on public demand Rtn.
Pankaj Tibrewal, Senior Fund Manager at
Kotak Mutual Fund was invited as a guest
speaker, to speak on Markets Beyond
Covid. The idea was to take advantage of
his views in a difficult scenario since we
had heard his views during an earlier
session planned by the club post budget
during March 2020. The session was very
useful as all the members could get the
clarity on the impact of the pandemic on
the Indian economy. It was a highly interactive session which lasted for nearly above two
hours on online platform. The unmatched knowledge, expertise and experience of Rtn.
Pankaj Tibrewala was highly appreciated and acknowledged and we all look forward to
hear him soon.
Treasure Hunt
The benefit of digital medium was
taken to the next level when RCMWE
had the first ever RYLA and that too
an E- RYLA, on 24th May. It was a
Treasure Hunt event organised by
Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs of
Mumbai Western Elite. It was played
online which spanned around an hour.
Could we ever think of playing
something like treasure hunt online??
But the new normal has taught us
even this. The event saw huge
participation from club members,
interacts, rotaracts, their family and
friends. The game was played in team
format and a mentor/guide was
assigned to each team. The
excitement and level of enthusiasm experienced by the participants was much more
than expected. We must be proud to see such innovative ideas brought forward by the
young Rotaracts and Interacts.

Speaker Session – Numerology
Numerology is a belief in the
divine or mystical relationship
between a number and one or
more coinciding events.
In year 2020, nothing seemed
to be going right all around
the world. The outbreak of
COVID 19, Cyclone in West
Bengal and Maharashtra,
Floods in North India, the
American Riots, Several
Earthquakes, terrorist attacks
.......are these not enough to
understand that something
was not right. An opinion from
a numerologist was definitely
a good idea. RCMWE decided to have a Ted speaker and celebrity Numerologist Ms.
Sheelaa M Bajaj on board to discuss the role of numerology in the year 2020 and of
course on us as individuals. The topic was really interesting and relevant one at this
current scenario. So relevant that we saw galaxy of past, present and future District
Governors gracing the event.
It was an honour to have DGN Rtn. Rajendra Agarwal as the chief guest and Past District
Governor Rtn. TN Subramanian as special guest for the session. The session was also
joined by almost 18 Rotary clubs of Mumbai.
Ms. Bajaj enlightened us on how the study of the numerical value of the letters in words,
names, and ideas is often associated with the paranormal, alongside astrology and
similar divinatory arts. She explained how our Life-Path number is probably the most
influential numerological aspect of one's life. This number is determined by your birth
date and represents who you are. She very well and interestingly described the specific
traits that belonged to each number (from 1-10). This was so interesting that it kept the
audience engaged throughout and their inquisitiveness carried on the session for
couple of hours. Such sessions are definitely beneficial for those who would like to bring
about a change in their life through numerology.

JUNE RELOAD
Charter Night
10th June 2015……most important date in the history of MWE, yes the day the Charter was
presented and thus every year this day is celebrated as MWE’s Birthday or the Charter
night. This year it was very special as it was MWE’s 5th Charter Night and the lockdown
could not stop us from celebrating with same zest and zeal. A Laughter Night was the best
suited theme for the occasion amidst this COVID pandemic.
Charter Night is always dedicated to sing the praise of our Past presidents for contributing
their time, treasure and talent to bring MWE to No.2 position in district 3141. Obviously not
to forget our charter members who have walked every mile for the betterment of our club
and community since inception. Icing on the cake was the felicitation of our past
presidents with Cake and trophy that reached them at the right time while still maintaining
social distancing.
The Event was attended by 110+ Rotarians and families, College of Governors, District
dignitaries and others from the comfort of their houses. All the attendees were shining in
their Smart Party attires. Team had a fun start along with hilarious videos. The audience
was mesmerised by a very creative Charter video that brought the memories back while
attempting to show our gratitude to all those 77 members for continuing their journey with us.
There were many more crispy interactions during the breaks and few more hilarious videos
that kept the theme on till the stage was taken up by our special guest of the night, Star
comedian Mr. Sunil Pal. He in his usual style mesmerised the audience for 45+ minutes and
was also generous enough to perform as per the request given by the attendees. Virtual
laughter show was definitely one of its kinds.
Blessings from DG Rtn. Harjit Singh Talwar, who spoke in his usual passionate way praising
the club, its leadership and the resilience was blissful.
After the fun was over, came another surprise. A virtual dinner which had all kind of
cuisines – Marathi, Marwadi, Gujarati, Rajasthani, Punjabi and English dinner were shown /
served to the attendees and in the last a noble serving message in the spirit of all Rotarians
was cascaded that there are lakhs of people in the current lockdown who are struggling to
arrange for 2 meals a day and hence lets all help them during this tough time.
