INSPIRATION.
“The yin
to my yang”
Speaking with tiger tiger
Incase had the opportunity to sit down with Los Angeles- based photography duo Hana Ardelean and Jen Dionne of TIGER TIGER, who recently spent some time in front of the camera as brand ambassadors in our Reform Collection campaign. The passionate creatives shared their thoughts on technology, entrepreneurship and their aesthetic, as well as their plans for the future.
Who you are and what you’re known for?
H: We’re a photography and directing duo under the name TIGER TIGER. We enjoy nerd- ing out on the details that most would overlook. It helps us to communicate a deeper narrative for our clients.
How would you describe your aesthetic?
H: Our aesthetic is very clean and colorful in a focused way. We love simplicity in our personal lives, and in our work.
J: Not only that, we always tell a story, even if it’s just between the two us. We give our subjects a mood and there are relationships happening un- derneath the photographs we take. It ties things together and brings the emotional value out of it.
Give us some background on starting your own business and the entrepreneurial spirit. How does that play into your everyday life of using mobile technology?
J: We both have always had a very entrepreneur- ial spirit. When we met each other, I was running a cookie company and Hana had a clothing and jewelry line. We always knew that we were going to work together, we just didn’t know how. Then we fell in love with taking pictures and started TIGER TIGER.
Mobile technology has allowed us to take our of- ice on the road and reach people that we might never have been able to connect with. It’s allowed friends and followers to share our work, making it a community-based business because they, too, have played a part in the growth of TIGER TIGER.

What does it mean to be a member of the creative class?
H: To me, being part of the creative class requires us to be bold, fearless and constantly creating. The creative energy in Los Angeles is every- where, so it’s constantly keeping us inspired, focused and on task.
What role does technology play in your life - both professionally and personally?
H: As Gen-Xers, technology is naturally a part of our daily life, so much so that we don’t even notice it. As a photographer, it is a huge blessing because with all of the updates to cameras, it has made shooting much more accessible. I like that anyone that has a passion for photography can take a crack at it. Although we love shooting film, I don’t know what we would do without digital.
Have there been any moments where technol- ogy was a burden and that burden was then lifted when you switched to Incase products?
J: I’m awful at keeping my phone charged, so the Incase Portable Power products have saved
my ass a couple of times, especially if I’m on set for 16 hours and there’s no time to charge it.
What about the Incase brand do you identify with?
J: We gravitate towards the brand because of its simplicity. We’re constantly trying to down- size to the basic necessities, which is why we use the Incase DSLR bag. It’s stealth—no bells or whistles. It’s everything you need and nothing you don’t.
H: All of our old camera bags were huge and the weight was not evenly distributed, so they looked and felt clumsy. The Incase bags are streamlined and virtually monochrome, which is a big plus.
From what you share on Instagram, your work looks amazingly fun. How do you stay inspired?
H: That always changes for me, but right now, I am very inspired by being outside and running. The clarity I get from running helps dramatically with my creative process.
J: Currently, I’m inspired by getting down to the
basics. Removing what is not necessary helps me stay focused, energized and allows me to build upon what I truly care about in each shoot.
What are some fun projects we can look for- ward to seeing from you?
J: We have a concept shoot coming up. It’s a time for us to let out all of our crazy, creative ideas and to collaborate with wardrobe stylists and make-up artists that we meet. We are about to shoot an idea inspired by pastels and clean lines. Plus, there is a ‘90s Porsche involved and big tropical bird.
