2 Unit 1 Short Communicative Messages 1 Short Communicative Message (SCM) is a short communication that is sent from one person to another. 2 It has a central theme or idea. 3 It can be in the form of messages, notes, email, postcards, short message, social media posts or tags. 4 A message is a short piece of information that you give or pass to someone when you cannot speak directly to them. 5 A message is made up of salutation, introduction, contents, closing/conclusion and signing off. 6 An email is a message distributed by electronic means from one computer user to one or more recipients via a network. 7 It consists of the recipient’s email address, sender’s email address, subject, salutation/greeting, introduction, contents, closing/ conclusion and signing off. 8 The task should be fully addressed. This can be done by reading the task at least twice. 9 Use contractions. Make it sound chatty as though you are talking to your friends. 10 Don’t miss out on important information/keyword in the instruction such as advice or opinion. 11 Don’t be too formal and don’t write too long. 12 Your postcard should start with a warm greeting to make your recipient feel appreciated. 13 Keep your message as short as possible and do not be too personal.
