Local Games

The games that are played in our locality are called local games.
These games have simple rules and are played in groups. We enjoy
playing local games using local materials. Lakku dhalne game,
Dandi-biyo, Ghwaikasa, Chungi game, Baghchal, etc. are some
common local games.

1. Lakku dhalne game Fig. Fig. Fig.

It is a popular game. This game
is played in two groups. Lakku
is made by arranging small flat
stones one upon another. One
group hits the lakku with a ball 31.1
and tries to drop the stones of lakku whereas other group tries to
catch the ball. Let us enjoy lakku dhalne game.

2. Dandi-biyo game

Dandi-biyo is the most popular
game in Nepal. This game is
played by using two sticks, one
long and another short. The
long stick is called dandi and 31.2
the short one is called biyo. A groove is made on the ground to play
dandi-biyo. Let us play dandi-biyo.

3. Ghwaikasa

among girls. This game is

4. Chungi game Fig. Fig.

Chungi game is a very popular local game among girls. Chungi
is made by using many rubber bands. Chungi is a ball made up
of many rubber bands tied
together. Girls play this game
with their feet by kicking the
chungi in air and count the
number of kicks. The player
who makes the highest count
without dropping the chungi 31.4
becomes the winner.

5. Baghchal

Baghchal is played by two
players at a time. This game is
played on a flat stone, wooden
board, paper, smooth floor or
cardboard. While playing this
game, a large pebble is used as
bagh (tiger) and small pebbles
are used as bakhra (goats). Let
us enjoy "Baghchal" as shown in 31.5
the picture.

A. Story Based Games

Some games are played on the basis of stories. The games which
are played on the basis of stories are called story-based games.
Students play these games acting as the characters of the game. Let
us play a story based game.

Fox and the grapes Grapes are
sour.
One day, a fox saw some
ripened grapes in the
grapevine. The fox jumped
to pick the grapes but could
not reach. The fox tried
time and again but could
not get grapes. The fox said,

Acting based games are also called imitating games. We can imitate
the actions, sounds and moving styles of human beings, birds and
animals. The games which are played by imitating the activities
of humans and other animals are called acting-based games.
These games are creative and very interesting. Let us enjoy some
acting based games as follows:

The games which are played with a ball are called ball games. We
enjoy playing ball games. We play volleyball, football, basketball,
etc. In this unit, we will learn dribbling, throwing and passing a
ball. Different skills like rolling, dribbling, throwing, catching,
passing, etc. are required to play ball games.

1. Dribbling

The act of bouncing a ball on the
ground with the help of hands or
legs is called dribbling. This skill is
used to control and pass the ball.
Dribbling can be done with one
or both hands/legs. Let us enjoy
dribbling as shown in the figure.

2. Throwing

This skill is used to play volleyball, football, basketball, etc. The act
of passing a ball from one place to another with hands/legs is called
throwing. We can throw a ball forward or backward while passing

Gymnastics

Gymnastics is the capacity of keeping the body in a balanced
condition in different situations. It is one of the important games.
It shows body's strenght and ability to move and bend easily. With
the skill of gymnastics, we can bend, roll and move our body in
various directions. Gymnastics makes our body flexible. However,
we should be careful while performing gymnastics. Carelessness
while performing gymnastics invites severe injury or accident. Let
us practise some postures of gymnastics.

1. Push ups

We perform push ups keeping

our hands and legs straight. Fig.

2. Stretching legs

In this exercise, we sit on the floor
keeping our legs apart. We catch our
feet with hands and then bend our
body forward to touch the ground.

the hands. Let us practise.

In this exercise, we place the palms of both hands on the ground
and lift the legs up slowly. At the beginning, we need help of our
friends while raising legs up. Let us perform.

This exercise is done by using hands and legs. While performing
this exercise, we bend our body towards left and then towards
right. We take support of hands and turnover. Let us perform.
