DORIS

LEE SAW SIM

SPONSORING LIONS CLUB,
LION PRESIDENT

First, let me express my appreciation to the Leo Club of INTI International
College Penang for the privilege extended to me as President of the
sponsoring club, the Lions Club of Penang Light, to pen a few words in
this issue of your e-Newsletter.

I would like to congratulate the members of the Leo Club of INTI
International College Penang led by its President Leo Terrence Teh
Teong Cheng, for a very successful fiscal term 2020-2021.

Allow me to also congratulate and to commend the Organising
Chairperson for e-Newsletter Team, Leo Chou Xin Yi for the great
initiative in coming up with this publication for this fiscal term 2020-
2021.

The year 2020-2021 is a challenging one with the Covid-19 Pandemic
which took a catastrophe turn in ways that the Club has to plan and
organise events or activities.

1

For the safety and well-being as priorities, some of the activities were
carried out virtually via Zoom. One such important event was the
initiation of 15 new Leo members into the Club. Let me congratulate all
of you for accepting this challenge to serve and feel proud to be a Leo as
you begin your journey as Leos.

The Leo Club of INTI International College Penang has paved the way for
many Leos in the past to become true leaders and responsible citizens
thus contributing in building a better society and community. It is hoped
that the graduating Leos will move forward and continue their journey to
be full-fledged Lion leaders in the near future to serve the less fortunate
and needy in the community.

The Leo Club of INTI International College Penang has successfully
completed 12 meaningful projects for this fiscal term. One such project
jointly carried out with Lions Club of Penang Light was the signature
project on presentation of prosthetic limbs, hearing aids and lightweight
wheelchairs to the deserving recipients in the community. The Leos have
also contributed their part in helping with the sales of Dim Sum
Fundraising tickets to help raise funds for the Penang Light Prosthetic
Limbs Project Fund for this fiscal term.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation
to the Leo Advisor, Lion Vincent Khoo Wei Shen, for serving as the liaison
officer between the Leos and the sponsoring Lions club. Despite his busy
schedule, Lion Vincent Khoo was able to give his commitment and
devotion in guiding the Leo Club of INTI International College Penang for
the fiscal year. For your information, Lion Vincent Khoo will take on a
new task and responsibility to serve as President of Lions Club of
Penang Light for the next fiscal term 2021-2022. As such, another Lion
will be appointed soon to take over as the Leo Advisor.

2

Last but not least, let me extend my heartiest congratulations to Leo
President-Elect Shanon Ooi Jing Mei and the newly elected Directors of
the Board for the Fiscal Year 2021-2022. I believe the new team of office
bearers will continue with the footprint and good work as exemplified by
the stewardship of the past presidents. I want to assure Leo President-
Elect Shanon Ooi and her Team of our full support for another successful
year ahead come 1st July 2021.
Once again, thank you for the honour given to me and I wish the Leo Club
of INTI International College Penang every success in your future
endeavours.
Thank you.
Lion Doris Lee Saw Sim MJF, DF
Club President

VINCENT

KHOO WEI SHEN

SPONSORING LIONS CLUB,
LEO ADVISOR

Fellow Leos,

INTI Penang Leos, sponsored by Lions Club of Penang Light was
chartered in 2013 and has been actively involved in Lions and Leos
activities that contribute towards the community. Although there have
been ups and downs throughout the 8 years since chartered, the club
managed to pull through it, getting better and stronger in terms of
membership and activities involved.

INTI Penang Leos is committed to the Leo Pledge and is always ready to
serve the community with ‘Leadership’, ‘Experience’ and ‘Opportunity’.
Over the past few years, INTI Penang Leo Club has developed many
outstanding leaders and individuals. They continue to strive for success
after they graduate, and some of them eventually became a Lion as well.
This shows that becoming a Leo would build ones to be a better person in
stepping into the society.

4

As it is coming to an end to the 2020-2021 term, I would like to
congratulate President Leo Terrence Teh Teong Cheng for a job well
done during his term. He has shown great leadership in bringing the club
on many notable projects and activities. He also brings opportunities for
the club and members to be involved in various district projects. And
most importantly, he manages to bring all the members of the club to
work as a team, yet not forgetting to bring new potential members and
nourishing them.
The world might be different than the norm we used to live in before, but
I hope the spirit of Leos remains the same for our Leos in INTI Penang. I
believe President Elect Leo Shanon Ooi Jing Mei for fiscal year 2021
-2022 will continue in guiding and bringing the club to success.
Your Lionism,
Vincent Khoo
Leo Advisor

TERRENCE

TEH TEONG CHENG

LEO CLUB OF INTI INTERNATIONAL
COLLEGE PENANG,
CLUB PRESIDENT 2020-2021

I am honoured to become the Club President for Leo Club of INTI
International College Penang Fiscal Year 2020-2021. I would like to thank
my Sponsoring Lions Club of Penang Light, and my Immediate Past
President Leo Lim Xin Rou for her guidance. It was a tough year due to
the pandemic, causing a significant rise in concern towards our nation’s
social issues, such as the lack of essential supplies to some homes and
orphanages, the continuous rising unemployment, etc.

To keep our nation and community safe, we have shifted all our activities
to the virtual environment as aligned with the standard operating
procedure. I believe with the help of technologies, we can reach out to
the public with minimal boundaries, spreading the positivity and
awareness of our intention to a larger community. Besides, this is also
an opportunity for us to stimulate creativity and create breakthroughs
while coordinating projects.

6

Additionally, I am also pleased to say that I have a great board of
directors which I am proud and grateful of. Despite the many challenging
moments that we have faced, we as a team work hand in hand to
overcome it. For example, the changes in trends on coordinating
activities and managing clubs or society, maintaining members retention
and promotion rate ideals and many more. There are many who are new
with us, but they have shown great interest and outstanding performance
through their active engagement on every opportunity offered. I believe
that we can strive better and overcome every obstacle if each member
fully commits to their responsibility and actively participates regardless
of the roles they play.

As quoted by Tom Peters, “Leaders don’t create followers, they create
more leaders.” We know that life on campus is short, but we hope that by
joining Leo Club can better shape you for the future. We promote the 3As
(Active, Action and Achieve) to our club members, encouraging them to
always perform extraordinarily by organising activities and having their
own service team. Furthermore, we did also promote a series of
activities such as Leo Club of IICP Award, and Together We Growth
Campaign, to demonstrate and recognise members’ leadership,
execution, persuasion, and planning capabilities.

Our club holds the vision to cultivate an independent and responsible
leader, who is able to make an impact on others lives by helping those in
need. I hope you will excel in your Leo Journey.

Your Sincerely,

Terrence Teh Teong Cheng
2020–2021 Club President

CLUB PRESIDENT ELECT 2021-2022

It is with great pleasure to be invited to pen a few words for our club’s
first ever e-Newsletter, as the elected president for the fiscal year of
2021-2022. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, we
are now closing to the end of this fiscal year.
Although this has been a year full of great challenges as we face the
COVID-19 pandemic, it is with pride when I say that these obstacles have
allowed us to learn new knowledge and skills for us to grow as an
individual and improve our service as Leos. This coming year, I hope to
implement these newly gained skill sets into physical activities and take
our service to a whole new level.

8

I believe that all that has happened this year has been a once in a
lifetime experience which has expanded our horizons as a young adult,
and is a reminder for us to appreciate every single day of our lives and
the people around us. Therefore, I am thankful to have had the chance to
work with our Board of Directors and members in various activities
throughout this year, as it has been a wonderful experience working with
all of you.

As a new year approaches, I do hope that we can continue to work
together and serve our community as one. I would also like to show my
utmost gratitude to our Sponsoring Lions Club, Lions Club of Penang
Light and our Leo Advisor for your support and guidance throughout this
difficult time. Lastly, I would like to show appreciation to the public for
your continuous help and support as this provides us with the motivation
to move forward and serve.

tradition that I hope to preserve for the years to come. I would like to

LINK UP YOU & ME

Spread out the positive mindset, quote
and love among family and friends. On
top of that, we aim to improve the bonds
between family and friends. People with a
positive mindset, will be brave to confront
all the challenges they face.

CHARITY WEEK

Charity does not have to be big or leave a
huge impact. A little act of kindness at
the right moment can give someone a
good day. These days you can also make
online donations that help keep charity
alive even during a busy life.

CLD - LEO ORIENTATION

Community service is the key contributor
towards the quality of life. It is important
to be a person who serves as well as the
recipient. It is the way in which we
ourselves grow and develop. L.E.O.!

JOINT INSTALLATION

WITH SISTER CLUB

When I started to plan and prepare for
Joint Installation, I was faced with many
different challenges and it has been a
character building opportunity for me. The
experience I have gained through this
event equipped me with the soft skills
required to face challenges in the real
world such as communication skills,
managing stress, leadership skills,
patience, and etc. Through this event, I
also got to meet new people that helped
me develop a better understanding about
Leo Club. Moreover, I have learnt the
importance of continuous learning. My
curiosity helps me figure out new
solutions that I wouldn't have thought of
before.

FELLOWSHIP NIGHT WITH

LEO CLUB OF IICS METRO

The Joint Fellowship was a fantastic
event where everyone joined as strangers
but left as friends. Joint Fellowship was
co-hosted by both Leo club of INTI
Penang and INTI Subang. The main
objective of this event was providing
opportunities for participants to get along
and become acquainted with one another
despite being confined in our own during
this covid lockdown. Bonds and
friendships with one another were formed
as we chatted, played games, and
laughed throughout the night. Memories
of that night will forever be engraved in
the hearts of each and everyone who
joined.

EAT HEALTHY LIVE HEALTHY

Health is never a priority in our lives until
sickness comes. Malaysia has one of the
highest obesity rates in Asia and almost
one in five Malaysian suffer from
diabetes. Eat Healthy Live Healthy aims
to raise awareness concerning obesity
and diabetes as well as encouraging
Malaysians to live a healthy lifestyle to
prevent these diseases. Participants
shared their unique healthy meal plan or
workout routine everyday by posting it on
social media, encouraging those around
them to follow their footsteps and do the
same. Living a better and healthier
lifestyle as the greatest wealth anyone
can have is health.

AUDIO BOOK

We noticed that there is a wide range of
English audiobooks that can be found
online. However there are only a few
options for Malay and Chinese
audiobooks, therefore we have decided to
launch this audiobook project to record
audiobooks specifically in the language
of Malay and Chinese. Audiobook 1.0 is a
virtual project which aims to create
audiobooks for the blind and visually
impaired, and help them gain access to
the world of books. Three committees
together with me launched this project
from 18 February 2021 to 18 May 2021.
We completed a total of 6 books with the
help of 13 participants. All audiobooks
are uploaded to google drive and sent to
the St. Nicholas Home Penang.

DELIVER THE WARMEST MEAL

During this pandemic, lots of people are
struggling in life, especially in fulfilling
their basic needs. Therefore we have
taken the initiative to help the community
by delivering food to those that are in
need. We have utilised the food delivery
application to assist us on the food
delivering services. I am glad that I have
been given this opportunity to organize
this activity during this pandemic and this
was also my first experience on delivering
food to people in need by using a food
delivery application.
