Introduction
A word pad is a word processing
program available on windows
operating system which allows us
to create the documents and edit
them as per the requirement of
the user. It is also a text-editing
program where we can create,
edit, view, and format the documents. We can use it for document
editing, creating letters, copying and pasting the documents and for
the other documentation work as our requirement. The Word Pad is
not as advanced and popular as Microsoft Word.
Starting word pad
Press the windows key from the keyboard.
Type Word pad and click on the WordPad in the Search box
as below.

Components of word pad windows
Quick access tool bar: It holds mostly used commands like
save, undo, redo, etc.
Title bar: It displays the name of currently used document.
Control buttons: It helps to control the size of the application
windows.
Ribbon: It contains the icons and commands.
Text area: It is the working area of the word pad.
Ruler: It helps to set the margin of the documents.
Zoom control: It helps to control the view size of the document.
Status bar: It displays the information about the current
working document.

Tips for typing
Use all ten fingers to perform better typing speed.
Use enter key to change the line of the text.
Use space bar key to separate the text (word or letter).
Use backspace or delete key to delete the mistaken word or
letter.
Press Shift and alphabet key together to display the character
in uppercase.
Press Escape key if any unnecessary windows appear on the
screen.
If your cursor is at the last position of the line, press home
key to bring the cursor at first.
If your cursor is at the first position of the line, press the end
key to send the cursor at last.

Working with text
Selection of the text
You can select individual letter, word, paragraph and whole
documents in the word pad. To select the text, you can use various
options.
Place the mouse pointer from where you want to start your
selection.
Click and hold the left mouse button then drag the mouse
pointer over the text that you want to select.

The selected text will be highlighted.
To select a particular word:
Double click within the word that you want to select.
To select a particular paragraph
Triple click within the paragraph that you want to select.
To select a single line
Place your mouse at the left most side of the line that you want
to select. (The cursor of the mouse turns into pointer sign)
Click the left mouse button to select the particular line.
Deleting the text
Use backspace key to delete the text to the left of the cursor.
Use the delete key to erase the text to the right of the cursor.
To delete whole text
First, select all the documents and press the delete key.
Working with text formatting
We can use text formatting tools
to change the properties of the
text. We can change font colour
and size, make the text bold, italic
etc. Font group is used to work with font formatting.

Select the required text.
In font group, click on the bold button (B) to make the text bold.
Now the text appears in bold format.
Making the text Italic
Select the required text.
In font group, click on the Italic Button ( I ) to make the text
italic.

Making the text underline
Select the required text.
In font group, click on Underline Button ( U ) to apply
underline to the text.
Now, the text appears with underline.
Changing the font size
Select the text to which you
want to change the font size.
In font group, click on the size
drop down button.
A list of font size will appear.
Click on the required font size
to change the size.
Now, the size of the text will
increase or decrease according
to the selection size of the font.

Grow font and shrink font
Without using the font size button, you can also change the size
of font. There are two buttons called Grow font and Shrink font
where Grow font means increasing the size of font and shrink
font means decreasing the size of the font.

Select the required text.
Click on the Grow font button to
increase the size of font. (Click
more time to increase more)
Now, you can see the large
font size of the text.
Shrink font
Select the required text.
Click on the Shrink font button to decrease the size of font.

Strikethrough
This button helps to draw a line through the middle of the selected
text.

Click on the strike through
button from the font group.

Superscript and subscript
A subscript is a character or symbol or text
that is set slightly below the normal line of
text.
A superscript is a character or symbol or text that is set slightly
above the normal line of text.
To work with superscript
Select the required text or letter.
Click on the superscript button on font group.
The text will appear as. A2 + b2
Here, the number 2 is the text that is appeared in the superscript
format.
Subscript
Select the required text or letter.
Click on the subscript button on font group.
The text will appear as. H2SO4
Here, the number 2 and 4are the texts that are appeared in the
subscript format.
Closing the word pad
After your task is completed, you have to close
the program. Always be careful that you have
to save your documents before you close the
programs.
Click on the file tab.
Select exit from the list
Now you are out from the word pad
program.
