Introduction A considerable number of biochemistry alumni presently occupy esteemed positions at various private enterprises, research institutions, and universities, both domestically and internationally. Consequently, knowledge of the endeavours of biochemistry alumni is imperative for the collection of feedback that can be utilised to improve the education of current undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, this "Biochemistry Homecoming Seminar (BHS)" serves as a forum to enlighten current biochemistry students regarding the requirements of international markets. Alumni are encouraged to participate in this programme by discussing their experiences during their time on campus and their achievements since completing the biochemistry programme. Additionally, it is anticipated that the alumni will be able to assist students in locating industrial training placements. Undergraduate and graduate students have derived advantages from the proceedings of the inaugural BHS, which took place on October 11, 2012. The prior seminar's influence has had a profound effect on the students, fortifying their sense of self, emotional wellbeing, intellectual growth, and spiritual readiness, as well as enabling them to engage in extracurricular and academic pursuits. In addition, it has furnished final-year undergraduates who are prepared to graduate with an opportunity to gain experience in preparation for a future profession, particularly in the field of biochemistry.

I would like to applaud our alumni, especially our three speakers who were invited. I extend them my sincere gratitude and my heartiest appreciation for their willingness to involve in the effort to support their alma mater. I also wish you all well in your upcoming responsibilities. Your spirit is gratefully acknowledged and rewarded. Science, technology and innovation are central to success in today’s economy. It is imperative that activities like this be inculcated in seeking future research opportunities and promoting scientific and technological networking among researchers, institutions and industries. This Homecoming Seminar has been successfully organised for the past 11 years and has become a tradition for the Department of Biochemistry. Let the tradition continue for the well-being of the faculty and the alumni’s future endeavours. Last but not least, I would like to congratulate and express my appreciation to the organizing committee for their tireless effort in making this seminar a success. Once again, have a fruitful seminar and welcome home to all speakers! Best wishes and thank you. Prof. Dr. Shuhaimi Mustafa Dean, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Message from Dean It is my pleasure to warmly welcome everyone to the Biochemistry Homecoming Seminar 2023 organized by the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (FBSB), UPM. “Homeisthestarting place oflove, hope and dreams.”

Message from Head of Department The Homecoming Seminar is an annual event linking our alumni and the Department. It offers a venue for students to learn from and expose to insightful perspectives, advice and guidance from our alumni. In addition, this provided ideas and an overview of the job fields for the students that will pursue after graduating. I would like to express my appreciation to the distinguished alumni, who have consented to be the speakers for BHS 2023. Thus far, our alumni are always willing to support the Department activities. The focus is on strengthening academic-industry-alumni linkages in a collaborative and cooperative manner. I hope this relationship will continue to be nourished and flourished. Congratulations and warmest appreciation to the organizing committee for their contribution in making the seminar a success. With Knowledge We Serve. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syahida Ahmad Head of Department, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Dear colleagues and friends, It gives us immense pleasure to invite and welcome all the guests, distinguished speakers, participants and students to our “Biochemistry Homecoming Seminar 2023”, in conjunction with the 47th Convocation Ceremony of University Putra Malaysia.

The homecoming seminar has been a tradition in the Department of Biochemistry since its first maiden seminar in 2012. The idea was first coined by the late Prof Dr Maziah Mahmood that entails on bringing back the alumni to the Department of Biochemistry to enhance the interaction and inter-institutional collaborations among researchers, industries, academics and myriad of other fields that our alumni can link us with. It is believed to also act as an ideal platform to showcase how versatile Biochemistry graduates can be. In line with the theme of this year’s homecoming seminar, “Where your success begins”, it has been our greatest hope that this homecoming seminar will continue to serve as a platform for the exchange of experience, knowledge and expertise with the respective alumni, as well as to explore any potential collaboration in the future. I hope this homecoming seminar will be stimulating and engaging, yet a fulfilling experience for all the students in the Department of Biochemistry. Last but certainly not the least, I would like to extend my gratitude for the unwavering support and encouragement received from both the Dean and the Head of the Department of Biochemistry throughout the organization of the seminar. Special appreciation goes to the Organising Committee, the 3rd year Biochemistry students for their hard work and unrelenting perseverance in making this 10th edition of homecoming seminar a memorable and successful one. To all the speakers, thank you for sharing your experience at this seminar and welcome home! Prof. Dr. Mohd Shukuri Mohamad Ali Chairman, Biochemistry Homecoming Seminar 2023.
