Social media is changing more than just the way we communicate.
Its changing the way we think, talk and (heaven forbid) spell! It has
influenced us more than we can even understand, and we have no
choice, but to “ride the wave”. Every year, I try and tap into something
the boys will enjoy. Something they can relate to. Something they
KNOW, and who knows a cellphone better than the children of the 21st
century? Even though, in 2019, they are BANNED from school ;)

Me : “Boys, we will be learning about OUTER SPACE next!
. So you need to build your OWN
SPACE SHUTTLE, so that we can BLAST OFF into space!”

Travis Goldschmidt : “Ma’am, can we make it fly??”

Me : “You can, as long as you don’t use explosives or fire
crackers.”

Mubeen Abdani : “Aaaaah! you spoil ALL the FUN, Ma’am!”

Travis Goldschmidt : “Could we use Bicarbonate of Soda and
vinegar?”

Me : “As long as it doesn’t EXPLODE! Now boys, listen to the
rest of the instructions for your Space Shuttle project. We
have already learnt about recyling, so we need to use up
some of the waste that is killing our planet.”

Yolani Dwadwa : “Can we use balloons?”

Me : “Balloons aren’t good for our atmosphere, because they
pop LONG before they reach space, and all those little pieces
of plastic fall into the sea. The fish eat those little pieces”

Callum Taggart (scratching his head): “So that means that if
we catch the fish that has eaten the plastic, we will be eating
plastic too?”

Me: “Thats right, Callum. Now boys, we need to get back to
our project and what you need....”

Charlie Broster and Suffian Siddiqui shout out together:
“I’M GOING TO CALL MINE THE BROSTER BLASTER!
AND MINE IS GOING TO BE THE SIDDIQUI CHALLENGER!”

Travis Brown
Every year seems to going by quicker than the next.
I can hardly believe how quick my three years at
Queen's Junior has felt. Unfortunately, I am writing
this with a heavy heart and a lump in my throat as
this is my last year at Queen's Junior. I am heading
to Kwa-Zulu Natal next year, taking up a post at
Cowan House in Hilton. Queen's will forever be
a part of me and has given me so much that I am
truly grateful for everything. The bonds with my
colleagues, sing songs, duties at hostel, enjoyable
and funny moments in the classroom, close and
hard fought derby days on cold winter mornings,
cricket matches in the scorching heat and
friendships will forever be ingrained in my memory.
To ALL the boys I have taught, I want to say
thank you for making me realize that I truly am in
the right profession and for not turning my hair grey.

To ALL the boys that I have coached over the years,
thank you for your hard work, determination and
perseverance. Also to my rugby side that I have
been with for 3 years (you know who you are),
our bond and understanding will long remain and
I look forward to tracking your progress in the future.
Give it horns Queenians!!!

This is a very special school and a very special family.
My blood will always be orange! Here are some of my
memorable moments I have had with the boys...
