Dear friends of the congregation,

Inspiration … There are varied sources of inspiration that touch our hearts. Although
not often enough, we hear on the news inspiring stories of everyday people who go
out of their way to initiate a project, help one of their brothers or sisters or quietly
make a difference in the life of someone. As I reflect on the IHMs who have gone
before us, I am inspired by their singular dedication to our life and mission. In my
visits to the sisters in ministry, including our “retired” sisters who volunteer their
time, I am touched by the ways in which they continue to live the Gospel message.
Giving … Many of us respond to the invitation to give of our time, talent or treasure
in various ways. There was a wonderful response to our invitation for financial
support for those who come across our border, seeking refuge from violence or
other forms of injustice. We are blessed with countless volunteers who give hours
assisting in various ways within IHM Senior Living Community or in other places
of IHM ministry. Their gifts of time and talent are priceless.
Inspirational Giving … This is where YOU enter the picture. Thank you for the
many ways you carry out inspirational giving. When I talk with donors, I hear
over and over again the ways in which our IHM Sisters touch lives. Perhaps it
was a second grade teacher who taught an individual how to read; it may have
been a high school teacher who recognized the talent of a student and encouraged
him/her to challenge themselves; there may have been an encounter with a pastoral
minister at a difficult time; it may have been the loving care that our staff in IHM
Senior Living Community gave to a loved one. We are blessed by your giving and
inspired by your belief in our mission.
It is my pleasure to present our 2017-2018 Annual Report. One of the many sisters
who have gone before us who was an inspiration to many is Margaret Brennan, IHM.
The establishment of the Margaret Brennan IHM Institute for Spirituality, Church
and Culture is highlighted in this issue. We are pleased to announce the second
gathering of this Institute, which will take place in the fall. As we look to the future,
when we will not need as much space within the Motherhouse, we are moving to
establish a Life Plan Community. We hope that some of you reading this will consider
a move to one of our newly constructed apartments, with a plan for your growing
needs as you age. Our new altar bread ministry is a service to parishes and a way
for our sisters to use their skills in new ways. Finally, within the covers of this report
you will find the listing of so many who support our life and mission.
Together with the words of St. Paul, we realize that “[With God’s power working
in us] we can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.” Ephesians 3:2 Thank
you for joining us on this journey. Your inspirational giving gifts us in so many ways.

The IHM Sisters are committed to living Jesus’ liberating mission. We respond to the many needs of God’s people,
ministering in 12 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, South Africa, South Sudan and Canada. There are currently 279 sisters

in our community with 132 living within the Motherhouse.
