1. VERBAL REASONING TEST

a) Series Test (cg'qmd)

Number Series

lbPsf] sd| df 5'6s] f] ;V+ of ktf nufpg'xf;] \ .

1. 1, 6, 15, ?, 45, 66, 91 b. 26 c. 27 d. 28
a. 25 d. 78
d. 728
The given follows the pattern: +5, +9, +13, +17, +21, 25.........
2. 2, 5, 9, 19, 37 ?

a.73 b. 75 c. 76

Clearly: 2 × 2 + 1 = 5, 5 × 2 – 1 = 9, 9 × 2 + 1 = 19, 19 × 2 – 1 = 37.............

3. 4, 8, 28, 80, 244 ?

a. 278 b. 428 c. 628

The given series are, 31 + 1, 32 – 1, 33 + 1, 33 + 1, 34 – 1, 35 + 1 ........

missing term : 36 – 1 = 729 – 1 = 728

4. 0, 6, 24, 60, 120, 210 ?
13 – 1, 23 – 2, 33 – 3, 43 – 4, 53 – 5, 63 – 6.
missing terms 73 – 7 = 343 – 7 = 336

Triangular pattern series,

Find the missing term in the series: 3, 20, 63, 144, 275 ?

3 20 63 144 275 ?

17 43 81 131

26 38 50

12 12

Missing term = 50 + 12 = 62, 131 + 62 = 193 + 275 = 468

Elementary Idea of Progression:

1. Arithmetic progression (A.P)

The progression of the form, a, a + d, a + 2d, a + 3d, ....... is known as an A.P. with the first
term a and common different = d
Ex = 3, 6, 9 12, ............. is an A.P. with a = 3 and d = 6 – 3 = 3 in (A.P)
We have nth term = at (n – 1)d = 3 + (3 – 1) 3 = 3 + (2)3 = 3 + 6 = 9

2. Geometric progression (G.P)
The progression of the form a, ar, ar2, ar3 is known as a G.P. with term = a and common
ratio = r.

Ex. 1, 5, 25, 125, .......... in a G.P. a = 5 = 25 = .......... 50th item
1 and r = 1 5

In a G.P. we have nth term = arn – 1 = 1 × (5)10 – 1 = 1 × 59

Alpha Numeric Series

Find the next term in the alpha numeric series.

Z1A, X2D, V6G, T21J, R88M, P445P ?

a. N2676 S b. N2676T c. T2670N d. T2676 N

The patterns follows by the letters are as follows
1st Letter: Z –2 X –2 V –2 T –2 R –2 P –2 N

2nd Letter : A +3 D +3 G +3 U +3 M +3 P +3 S

The series formed by the nubs i.e. 1, 2, 6 , 21, 88, 445 .............. follows the pattern X1 + 1, X2 + 2.
X3 + 3,

X4 + 4, X5 + 5 ,.........

Numerical in the desired term = 445 × 6 + 6 = 2676

Hence, missing term is N2676 S.

So the answer is (a)

Alphabet Series

lbPsf] sd| df 5'6]sf] ;+Vof ktf nufpg'xf;] \ .

a. Find the next two term in the series A, C, F, ?, ?

a. L,P b. M,O c. O,U d. R,V

The first, second, third............. letter of the series are respectively moved two, three four ....
steps forward.

b. Which term comes next in the sequence?

AC, FH, KM, PR, ?

a. UW b. VW c. VX d. TV

Clearly the first and second letters of each terms are moved five steps forward to obtain the
corresponding letters of the next term

Continuous Pattern Series

lbPsf] s|ddf 56' s] f] ;+Vof ktf nufpgx' f];\ .

1. – – aba – – ba – ab

a. abbba b. abbab c. baabb d. bbaba

Ans: b. I the series is ab/ab/ab/ab/ab/ab the pattern ab is repeated.
2. a – bccb – ca – cca – baab – C

The series is aabcc/bbcaa/ccabb/aabcc/. Thus the letters move in a cyclic order and in each
group the middle letter occurs only once.

Continous Pattern Series
Answer (Exercise - 4)

1. d. The series is abb/abb/abb/abb. thus the pattern abb is repeated.
2. c. The series is nnmm/nnmm/nnmm/nnmm. Thus the patern is repeated.
3. d. The series is rtus/rtus/rtus/rtus. thus the pattern is repeated
4. a. The series is bcaa/bcaa/bcaa/bcaa. thus the pattern is repeated
5. a. The series is abadna/abadna/abadna/abadna. thus the pattern is repeated
6. b. The series is thus aabbcc/aabbcc/aabbcc. thus the pattern is repeated
7. b. The series is cccbbbaaa/cccbbbaaa/c.thus the pattern is repeated
8 a. The series is acac/abab/acac/abab/acac. Thus the pattern is repeated
9. b. The series is abb/aaabbb/aaaabbbb/ a. Thsu the pattern is repeated
10. a. The series is aabcc/bbcaa/ccabb/aabcc/aabcc. Thus the letters move in a cyclic order and

in each group, the middle letter occurs only once.

c) Direction and Distance Sense Test
(lbzf / b'/L_

Important Tips
First step: We will find the four main direction

East (E), West (W), North (N), South (S),

Second Step: Four Cardinal Direction

NN
(N,E)

(N,W)

W EW E

(S,E)
(S,W)
SS

Third Step

Find the clockwise direction and anti clockwise direction.

Then know which direction is facing

Fourth Step h
Know about Phythagorous Theorem p

h2 = p2 + b2

h = p2 + b2 b

p = h2 – b2

b = h2 – p2

Important Trick

1. ofu] kmn sum lgsfNg] formula

Find the Sum of number 1 to 100

1 b]lv 100 ;Ddsf] of]ukmn slt x'G5 <

Formula,
n(n + 1)
2

Here n = 100
100(100 + 1)

So, 2

= 50 × 101 = 5050

2. ljhf/] ;+Vofsf] of]ukmn lgsfNg] ;q'

Find the Sum of odd number (1 to 10)

1 bl] v 10 ;Ddsf] ljhf/] ;V+ ofsf] of]ukmn lgsfn

Formula, (n)2

;j} eGbf klxnf 1 bl] v 10 ;Ddslt j6f ljhf/] ;+Vof 5g kQf nufpg] .

Here, n = 5
So, (5)2 = 25

3. ljhf/] ;+Vofsf] ofu] kmn lgsfNg] ;'q

Find the Sum of even number (1 to 10)

First of all we will find the number of even number 1 to 10 then

Formula = n (n+1)

Here, n = 5

So, 5(5+1)

=5×6

= 30

4. k|fsl[ ts ;+Vofsf] au{sf] of]ukmn lgsfNg] ;q'

Find the Sum of the squares of first natural number (1 to 10)

Formula,

6

5. k|s[lts ;+Vofsf] Cubes x?sf] of]ukmn lgsfNg] ;q'

Find the sum of the cubes of first natural number

100 hgf dflg;n] k|Tos] n] Ps cfk;df xft ldnfpbf hDdf xft ldnfPsf] ;V+ of slt xG' 5 <

n(n – 1)
Formula, Sn = 2

If 100 people Handshakes each other then how many times they Handshakes.

Here, n=100
100(100 – 1)

So, 2

= 50 × 99

= 4950
