NO SENARAI TAJUK PEMBENTANGAN (JABATAN SAINS SOSIAL) 1. DEVELOPING A MEASURE OF LONELINESS AMONG EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION STUDENTS SARAH SOFEA BINTI HARUN NURUL IRDINA BINTI MOHD MASRUDIN NOR ZUNATASHA BINTI MOHD AZAM NURR SARAH QISTINA BINTI HISHAMUDIN ABSTRACT The extreme sadness that results from thinking you have no friends, relationships, or interaction is known as loneliness. This study looked at the level of loneliness, the necessities of university life, and the connections between these factors and the characteristics of university students. By putting ideas for maintaining connections into practice, we can lessen the perception of loneliness and reduce the likelihood of experiencing more serious health problems. Google Forms was utilized to collect data in order to assess loneliness among Universiti Selangor’s students who enrolled in Early Childhood Education programme. The survey involved self-report measures and self-report surveys, with participants providing information on their experiences of loneliness, social ties, and other characteristics. Data was collected from around ten students using focus groups interviews as in qualitative research. To encourage students to fill out the Google Forms, the researchers approached every student at Universiti Selangor in public and distributed them through online platforms like WhatsApp. Statistical studies were used to investigate the prevalence and intensity of loneliness while capturing the subjective experiences and personal narratives of those suffering from loneliness. Next, the result of this survey can be summarized based on the pilot test. This data from the pilot test was collected from a total of 10 students at the University Selangor. There were 20 questions in total. They answered the questions through Google Forms that we had distributed. They answered according to four choices of the answer which are “I often feel this way”, “I sometimes feel this way”, “I rarely feel this way”, and “I never feel this way”. Finally, the result of the pilot test which is the Cronbach Alpha is 0.918. Lastly, loneliness can impair one’s ability to sleep, increase physical health problems, and induce restlessness and high levels of stress. Loneliness has the potential to worsen the symptoms of anxiety or depression. This may lead to persistent “fight or flight” stress responses, which compromise the immune system’s ability to perform it is functions. In other words, those who feel lonely have weakened immune systems and are more likely to develop inflammatory disorders. Keywords: Loneliness, Health, University Student

5. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-ESTEEM AND BODY IMAGE AMONG STUDENTS NUR AININ SOFIYA BINTI AHMAD FARIS NUR AIRISH KHAIRIYA BINTI KASSIM AIDA NUR FADHILAH BINTI MARSIDIYONO YASZRIN BINTI MARZUKI ABSTRACT This study aimed to explore the relationship between self-esteem and body image among students, focusing on how individuals think, feel, and behave in relation to their bodies and physical appearance. During adolescence, self-perception of one’s appearance plays a crucial role in the development of self-esteem and is considered a significant predictor of self-worth. Research suggests that distorted body image perception and dissatisfaction during this stage can contribute to both medical and psychological disorders. In today’s culture, with an increasing emphasis on the ideal body image, teenagers and young adults often engage in weight-related behaviours to attain their desired physique. The primary objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of body image dissatisfaction among students and examine its association with various factors, particularly self-esteem. The findings of the study provide support for the hypothesis that body image dissatisfaction significantly influences self-esteem among college-aged individuals. To conduct the research, a quantitative methodology was employed, ensuring a standardized approach where all participants received the same set of questions. The questionnaire consisted of three sections: Section A collected demographic data such as name, gender, and age; Section B included the 16-item Physical Appearance State and Trait Anxiety Scale (PASTAS); and Section C contained the 10-item Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965). Based on the outcomes, further research in this area is recommended. Keywords: self-esteem, body image, dissatisfaction

6. DEPRESSION AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS WAN NUR ATIKA BINTI WANZALI NURAINA INSYIRAH BINTI MOHD NAZERI NUR QISTINA BINTI MAHZER ALYA' MARSYA BINTI ROSLAN ABSTRACT Depression is a prevalent disorder that can affect individuals irrespective of their gender, age, race, or nationality. Recent times have witnessed an increase in the global prevalence of depression, potentially influenced by environmental changes and the impact of technology. This study aims to examine the current level of depression among undergraduate students and identify the risk factors associated with stress, anxiety, and depression within the university setting. Risk factors are categorized into six themes: psychological, academic, biological, lifestyle, social, and financial, with each theme further subdivided to account for the varying levels of impact on students’ stress, anxiety, and depression. A quantitative approach is employed, given the numerical nature of the data. The sample comprises undergraduate students from multiple universities across Malaysia, with 120 respondents evenly distributed between 60 females and 60 males. Data was collected using a Google Form questionnaire, which facilitated easy submission and automated data storage. The questionnaire employs a closedended format, presenting respondents with multiple answer choices from which they select the option that best represents them. It consists of two parts: Part A encompasses the demographic profile, including informed consent, while Part B incorporates questions from the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS) to assess depression levels among undergraduate students. By considering gender as a measurement variable with equal representation of female and male students, the study aims to explore potential variations in depression levels across different fields of study. Certain courses may subject students to significant pressures, including assignments, learning methods, classmates, and the overall academic environment. This study seeks to investigate the factors contributing to the extent and nature of depression levels among undergraduate students, with the ultimate goal of raising awareness and developing intervention and support strategies. Through the findings, it was hoped to shed light on this issue and promote student well-being in academic settings. Keyword: Depression, Stress, Anxiety, gender, Risk Factors

7. THE COMPARISON OF THREE MAIN PARENTING STYLES NUR SHAMIERA BINTI MOHAMAD SHAMSUL AZHAR MIMI HAFIZA DZUREENA BINTI MD DOM NATASYA AMEERA BINTI ABDUL MALIK KHAIRUNNISA BINTI NOR AZMI ABSTRACT When it comes to parenting, there is a great deal of diversity among families. Cultural backgrounds have a major impact on how the family unit exists and how children are reared. The study aimed to analyse and contrast the three basic parenting styles, namely authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive parenting. The target participants for this study are adults aged 20 and older, including parents of both genders, as their experiences provide valuable insights into various stages of parenthood. In this study, a survey was used as a practical and effective tool to gather the required data. A thorough questionnaire with 12 well-chosen questions was distributed to participants via Google Form. The Likert scale, ranging from 1 to 5, was employed to assess respondents’ viewpoints. Each item required participants to indicate their level of agreement or disagreement, with 1 representing “strongly disagree”, and 5 indicating “strongly agree”. The collected data will be properly analysed using a t-test, a statistical technique that permits the comparison of implies after data collection. We can find any significant changes in responses related to various parenting styles using this analytical approach. Our study uses a quantitative approach to measure and evaluate the data, allowing us to make statistical assumptions and generate practical recommendations. To ensure the validity and compatibility of the questions used in the Google Form with the theories and traits associated with each parenting style, extensive research was conducted from reputable web sources. This approach guarantees that our research is founded on well-established and reliable metrics, thus enhancing the validity and reliability of our conclusions. 13. PERCEPTION OF GENDER STEREOTYPES AMONG STUDENTS IN THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SCIENCES, UNIVERSITI SELANGOR SHARMILAH RAGU KIRRTHANA SATHEESH KUMAR SHEKINAH JOSEPH NATHASHAHV ARAVINDRAN ABSTRACT The goal of this study was to measure how gender stereotypes were seen by students at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) in the environment of the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences. Generally speaking, the term “gender stereotyping” refers to a generalised belief or preconception about the traits or qualities that men and women should or should not possess, or the roles that men and women should or should not perform. Socially created interpretations about female and male traits or behaviours are known as gender stereotypes, and they are reinforced through social interactions and media representations. When gender is acted in ways that are not conventional, people frequently take actions that serve to reinforce prejudices about how gender should be performed. As males show their masculinity and punish female partners who are perceived to be challenging their feminine position, they victimise women, which reinforces gender stereotypes. Students from the Diploma in Psychology programme at the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences at UNISEL participated in this research project. It was designed to reveal the perspectives of students in the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences on gender stereotypes through a research survey. A set of questionnaires were administered to these students, including section A for demographic data and section B for the 60-item Bem Sex-Role Inventory Index (BSRI) (Bem, 1974). Results revealed that students’ lived experiences with this issue have changed how they view their present and future, and that they perceive gender stereotypes differently than previous generations because they believe that they belong to a new generation that does not distinguish between genders.
