THE ESTABLISHMENT OF

54

THE ACADEMIC CLUSTER

The Academic Cluster has a role to ensure that the academic field in this
school continues to be implemented properly even though the school has to
face the challenge of the Covid-19 Virus pandemic. Since the virus began to
spread, various constraints arose when schools began to close as a measure
to curb its spread. As an institution that is responsible for maintaining the
academic performance of students, the school has strived to ensure that
students always get a perfect learning so that they do not fall behind. The
recommendation of the Ministry of Education Malaysia for schools to use the
method of learning from home has been utilised to the best advantage by
teachers by building modules that are suitable for all students.

Starting with the proposal by the Kampung Sendayan Mosque to use the
mosque fund to help the students of this school, the school did not miss the
opportunity and considered this proposal as The funds donated became
capital to build modules for Form Five students who will face SPM in 2020.
This is where the role of the Academic Cluster begins, which is to ensure that
the mosque's proposal becomes a reality. All the Heads of the Committee
have been mobilized to find suitable materials as training to be given to the
Form Five students who are at home.

After all the materials were successfully collected, the Academic Cluster
has collaborated with the school cooperative to print materials to be used as
learning modules from home. The Academic Cluster also has the support of
the PTA to implement various programs that will have a great impact on the
students. Finally, this program received recognition from the Seremban District
Education Office, when Tuan TKPPD Khalidah Omar went down to the school
to hand over the Form 4 Module to parents and Form 4 pupils called to the
school to take the modules.

55

This Academic Cluster will continue its role by holding various more
effective programs in the future. Hopefully the Academic Cluster will be able to
strengthen the academic field and will be in line with other clusters towards
realizing the potential of students as intended through the Malaysian
Education Development Plan (PPPM), in line with the recognition of SMK
Felda Seri Sendayan as a TS25 school for Cohort 5 from 2020 .

65

CHRONOLOGY OF THE
ACADEMIC CLUSTER

SUBMISSIONAcademic Clusters are clusters developed to ensure that the

academic field is not disrupted even if schools are closed due
to the spread of the Covid-19 Virus.

The idea started with a proposal from the Kg. Sendayan to
continue collaborating with schools for academic
improvement programs to help the children to excel.

Discussions were made between En. Abdul Rahman and the
Principal at 10.10. 2020 and finally the mosque agreed to
contribute funds through the mosque fund for academic
improvement programs

Due to the spread of the virus, the face -to -face program
at the mosque could not be carried out. The school's
proposal is to use the funds to build modules for students
at home and the proposal has been agreed by the mosque
community.

Meetings were held with the teachers for the division of
tasks of building modules. The school cooperative agreed
to manage the printing of the modules. It all came true on
November 4, 2020 when the modules were handed over
to students and parents by driving past in front of the
school gates

. Cooperation with the Kg. Sendayan continued when the
mosque community agreed to sponsor an additional class
program during the school holidays. Two groups of
outstanding students were selected to attend this additional
class with the guidance of the teachers themselves

NEGERI SEMBILAN

KUNJUNGAN

KASIH 2020

#kluster kebajikan

69

The welfare cluster started indirectly in March 2020 when our country was N
also hit by the covid 19 epidemic. At that time, the government had announced
a nationwide movement control period until June 2020. Following the event,
many parents/ guardians of SMK (F) Seri Sendayan have lost their jobs and
sources of income. Teachers have taken the initiative to seek donations and
raise funds to help the families of students in need of basic needs. The school
has joined forces with the PTA to distribute the needs to ease the burden of
students' families. On 13, 14 and 18 April 2020, a total of 72 families received
necessities assistance.

This charity and humanitarian activity did not stop there. In fact, at the end
of April 2020, the school received quite shocking news when a Form 4 student
at SMK (F) Seri Sendayan with his 12 -year -old brother at SK Gadong Jaya
were at home alone without parental care during the MCO period. The
student's mother had returned to her hometown in Indonesia on family matters
and was stranded there while their father could not be traced. From there,
teachers, PTA committee members and neighbors take over the
responsibilities of parents by helping these students provide all the necessity
such as food and groceries. This continues until entering the month of
Ramadan.

The Director of JPNS, Tuan Hj. Md. Fiah bin Md. Jamin also visited the
house of the two siblings on 22 May 2020 to see for himself their condition. In
conjunction with the month of Ramadan, neighbors and teachers took turns
preparing food for breaking fast and “sahur” for the two siblings. This situation
was even more heartbreaking when his mother could not return home to
celebrate Eid Celebration with these children. The modest Eid celebration for
the two siblings was completed by the teachers and neighbors by preparing
Eid food. The school is also trying to find funds and financial contributions to
help bring their mothers back from Indonesia. When their mother returned to
the country, the school together with SK Gadong Jaya applied for help from
Baitul Mal to ease the burden of this family in terms of rent.

70

In addition, the welfare cluster continues its humanitarian mission by
caring for a family in Kg. Jimah Lama which consists of a single mother with
children who have lost their father in June 2020. Two of these children are
students at SMK (F) Seri Sendayan who are in form 4 and form 2.

During the MCO period, the two siblings had to attend pdpr classes in oil
palm plantations due to restrictions on internet access in their home area.
While the two siblings were following the pdpr, their mother would look for oil
palm fronds and grind them to be used as a broomstick. The profit from the
sale of these broomsticks are a source of income for this family.

This matter also stole the attention of the Director of JPNS and on 2
February 2021, he also visited the house of the students while handing out
personal donations to them. Assistance to these families continued when the
Principal tried to find funds to repair the damaged roof of their house. The roof
repair process took about a month to complete. The school also donated two
mobile phones to make it easier for them to attend pdpr classes.

This charity activity was continued with a visit to the house of a Form 1
student when his house caught fire on 24 April 2021. The Principal and the
welfare cluster visited the family on 25 April 2021 with donations in the form of
kitchen essentials to ease the burden of the family. The school continues to
channel financial assistance to these families through fundraising from
teachers, PTAs, and NGOs to help cover daily expenses.

In addition, with the relatively long and prolonged period of MCO, more
parents/ guardians are losing their jobs and livelihoods. On July 2, 2021, the
school received the news that there were students' houses that had been flying
'white cloth' due to the cut off food supply in their homes. The Principal
together with the welfare cluster rushed to the student's house in kg. Jijan to
provide financial assistance and necessities.

Next, the Principal took a drastic step by introducing ‘Gerobok Rezeki’
(food bank) which provides daily necessities to be distributed to anyone in

71

need of food supplies. Necessities from “Gerobok Rezeki”(food bank) are
donations from the public to help those in need.

“Program Kunjungan Kasih” is run by the Welfare Cluster
under the auspices of the Student Affairs Unit of
SMK (F) Seri Sendayan

The idea of the program was implemented after examining the
socio -economic status of students who mostly belong to the B40

group

Fund contributions were obtained from contributions from
teachers, PTAs, NGOs and individuals.

Funds are channeled to students in the form of food supply
assistance and telephone data top -ups for the purpose of online

pdpr at home

with the principal to evaluate teachers' personal files on 30 June 2020. During
the face-to-face meeting, the principal identified the interests and inclinations
of teachers other than carrying out essential duties in the school. In dealing
with the stress of work demands and the stress of the COVID 19 pandemic, the
Principal, Cikgu Shafie bin Haji Mohd Noor has come up with the idea to create
several clusters that combine the same interests and inclinations among
teachers.
In the early stages of this cluster, it was triggered when Cikgu Siti Farahliza
Binti Mohamed Isa expressed her interest and involvement in volunteer
activities. His inclination in this volunteer activity is manifested by joining non
-governmental organizations and participating in various programs as well as
aid and humanitarian missions. She was joined by Cikgu Siti Norain Binti Idris
who is interested in extra-curricular activities and has coordinated many
extra-curricular programs under the co-curricular unit. In this regard, the
Principal has proposed to establish a volunteer cluster to run programs that are
beneficial to the community and school students in particular as well as to
support the interests and inclinations of teachers in doing activities that they
like. So on 30 June 2020, the SMKFSS Volunteer Cluster was established led
by Cikgu Siti Farahliza binti Mohamed Isa and assisted by Cikgu Siti Norain
binti Idris as the assistant head. The SMKFSS Volunteer Cluster was then
joined by Cikgu Zuraidah Binti Hamidun as treasurer, Cikgu Rajan a/l
Periannan, Cikgu Mohd Fairus bin Abd Aziz and Cikgu Quilatul Jasmina binti
Abu Shah as the logistics, sponsorship, and promotion committee.
Two activities have been proposed and planned to be carried out by the
SMKFSS Volunteer Cluster in 2020. The first activity carried out by this cluster
is a community service program, “Singgah Santun” Program to the indigenous
village of Kampung Tohor, Jelebu on Saturday, 15 August 2020.

The program is conducted in conjunction with strategic partners,
non-governmental organizations Pertubuhan BANTTU Malaysia and

participated by teachers as volunteers. Donation and fundraising campaigns
were conducted by cluster and BANTTU members and received overwhelming
response from teachers, individuals and corporate companies. A survey visit
and discussion was held with the Jelebu Orang Asli Development Department
(JAKOA), JKKK and Tok Batin Kampung Tohor. This program has been
implemented successfully in accordance with the procedures and procedures
set by the National Security Council (MKN). Articles and reports on the
program were published in the Metro Daily newspaper on Wednesday 19
August 2020 (as in the appendix).

The second activity that has been planned is the ‘Pick It Up’ Program
and the Waving of the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the Independence
Month celebration with IPG Technical Education Campus, Nilai. The program
was planned to be conducted in Pantai Cermin, Port Dickson but had to be
postponed to 2021 to comply with the procedures and SOPs which have been
tightened due to the increase in COVID 19 cases in the country.
