Chr tm spiri

With the busiest time of the year just around the corner, make the 9
most of your social media to drive engagement and footfall

Not sure where to start? Here are some ideas to make an impact on
Facebook and Instagram in the run-up to Christmas and New Year:

• Run Christmas giveaways exclusively on your social media
• Share pictures and videos of your festive displays and in-store POS
• Reach a new audience of potential customers by sharing details of Christmas

events happening around your community, from light switch-ons to carol services
• Share photos of your Christmas products, party food and alcohol
• Challenge your followers to do some seasonal baking and cooking – share the

team’s efforts and let them know you’ve got all the ingredients they need in-store
• Ask your followers to share pictures of their own festive creations!

Add a sprinkle of festive fun – go to Booker.co.uk for
hints and tips, including how to “boost” your posts so they
reach more people in your community!

HAVE YOUR SAY…

We opened the store at the start of
lockdown, after a two-week refit. We were
new to the area and needed people to come
back and engage with the shop, as it was quite
run-down before. We don’t use any leaflets;
all of our promotion is on Facebook.
When people come into the shop we tell them about the
Facebook page. They like the page and our regular customers
have become friends. We update several times a week and
put everything on there – Londis deals, community events,
competitions and little touches about ourselves.
The locals are rooting for us because they know what the shop
was like before. Facebook has helped so much with that. We
love being a part of this community – and Christmas will be
extra special!

CATEGORY FOCUS HAVE YOUR SAY…

We think Christmas this year may
be a little different, with few or no office
parties. That said, everyone still wants
to celebrate and treat their friends and
families while following local social distancing guidelines.
It’s been an extraordinary year, but I think it’s also made
us all aware of what’s really important in life: spending
time with people we care about.

We’ve seen changing habits this year, with more people
turning to us for shopping trips, rather than going to the
big supermarkets – and we expect this to continue over
Christmas. We make sure that we’re well stocked with
the basics while offering lots of seasonal gifts and treats.

We have a good stock of boxed chocolates and gift
boxes of biscuits. We have quite an older population in
the village who like to give boxes of biscuits as gifts to
friends and neighbours.

We have our own cheese counter, which includes local
cheese, and that’s popular at Christmas. We make
up cheese boards for customers and sell some whole
cheeses as gifts, as well as good-quality crackers and
savoury biscuits for cheese.

If you have the space, you could think about putting meal 4 msPuleacachteaocsrofmclaupvsolteaumrrdemnnietxaasrryafcrshuteoittcsknteoxgtettoher,
ingredients together in the chiller. Remember, we can all
get bored preparing and eating the same meals week in,
week out, so any inspiration for something different is always
welcome. In addition, siting complementary ingredients and
products together taps into the big ‘recipe box’ trend, where
companies aim to make scratch cooking more convenient.
But not everyone can afford to sign up for these schemes,
which is where you can help.

Finally, don’t forget ready meals. As much as people like to
cook using only fresh ingredients, sometimes there is simply
not enough time, so they will head for the chiller or freezer
to look for a quick and easy ready meal. Kantar data reveals
that English recipes take the lion’s share of ready meal sales at
33%, followed by Italian, then Indian. In addition, don’t forget
the increased demand for plant-based ready meals.

Check out the new vitamin range that’s set to boost your sales

Today’s consumers are generally taking a much
more proactive approach to looking after their
health. That could mean changing their diet or
working out more regularly, but for many it means
taking vitamins and supplements.

45% of adults say it is difficult to get all the
recommended vitamins and minerals from their diet
alone. As a result, the vitamins and supplements market
in the UK is now worth £439m and growing.
