Cabin Attendant Manual

INTRODUCTION

This Cabin Attendant Manual is intended to provide information, procedures and operating instructions
regarding equipment installed in the aircraft during its modification by the LHT completion center. It
includes only such topics in regard of cabin crew procedures, which have arisen in relation to the custo-
mized cabin interior, furnishings and equipment.
This manual is not intended to replace existing manuals provided with the aircraft by the aircraft manufac-
turer. It is strongly recommended that all operating manuals and/or airplane flight manuals be reviewed in
order to have a complete understanding of the aircraft and equipment installed in the aircraft by the manu-
facturer, as well as normal and emergency operating procedures. Unless specifically requested by the
completion center or the owner/operator of the aircraft, this manual will not be revised.

In addition to the operating instructions found in this manual, it will be necessary to refer to specific vendor
manuals provided by the equipment manufacturers. The vendor manuals were delivered with the aircraft
by the completion center.

SECTION 3 - AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS

1. In-Flight Entertainment System (IFE)

NOTE: The chapter 04.070 of the THAI A340-500/-600 CABIN SYSTEM OPERATING MANUAL
(CSOM), Issue No. 1 is superseded by the content below since the IFE system has been
replaced.

A. System Description Printed in the Federal Republic of Germany

The IFE system transmits audio programs and video sound to the passengers and shows video pro-
grams through the video display units in the passenger compartment and through Wi-Fi connections
to PED‘s which have both WLAN enabled and the appropriate streaming application installed. The
passenger can hear the audio programs and the video sound through the headsets. In addition, the
CIDS director transmits PA announcements/Boarding music and audio of video announcements to
the loudspeakers.

The IFE System is a non-essential system and for passenger convenience only. From a functional
perspective the IFE system can be differentiated into
• RAVE CENTRIC part and
• RAVE WIRELESS CABIN part.

The RAVE CENTRIC part contains all head-end and front-end components except for the wireless
access points (WAP), which are required for Wi-Fi connections.
The WAP‘s are part of the RAVE WIRELESS CABIN product. The RAVE WIRELESS CABIN appli-
cation is the RAVE portal through which the passenger can view content and get access to flight
related information, directly on their PED. With RAVE WIRELESS CABIN the RAVE CENTRIC gets
additional functionality:

• Streaming IFE - Wireless streaming IFE to PED’s

The RAVE WIRELESS CABIN part is operated during all flight phases to allow passengers to use
AVOD (Audio and Video On-Demand) streaming functions any time aboard the aircraft.

While the seats of the FA and BA have in-seat IFE equipment, the seats of the PA and EA have
none. In these compartments passengers get access to IFE content with their PED‘s per Wi-Fi
streaming only. For video broadcast like safety video overhead monitors are installed in the PA and
EA.

In general the IFE System is powered from shedable busses.

B. Safety Instructions cLufthansa Technik

Required services, such as pre-flight briefings, emergency evacuation and announcements must be
addressed with the Passenger Address System (PA) only.

In case of an emergency announcement, cabin crew must ensure that all passengers are aware of
the intent and of the announcement itself.

The IFE system must be switched OFF in case the system does not mute during a PA announce-
ment.

A-00-17/72-CAM LHT HAM WV Page 27
Dec 20/17

A340-541

Cabin Attendant Manual

The IFE system should be switched OFF in case no passengers are in the cabin.

The flight/cabin crew should not reset the electrical power to the IFE system where a hazardous fault
(e.g. short circuit) is suspected.

The operation of intentionally Transmitting Portable Electronic Devices (TPEDs), such as smart
phones or laptops, with wireless transmission enabled is not allowed during any flight phase in the
flight deck.

Use of the cabin WLAN services with TPED‘s is technically allowed
• inside the cabin,
• in compliance with the WLAN standards IEEE 802.11a,b,g,n, ac,
• during any flight phase.

NOTE: The presence of an additional operational approval for TPED operation is required,
before the IFE WLAN services may be used with TPEDs in accordance with the above
listed conditions.

In a decompression event the IFE system will turn-off all monitors automatically. However all other
units of the IFE system remain powered. It is recommended to switch them off manually.

C. Safety Instructions for Usage of Medical Equipment

Add the following warning to chapter 07.010, Issue No. 1 on page 5 of CSOM in the beginning of the
descriptive ALL section in appropriate formatting:

WARNING: USAGE OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT MIGHT BE AFFECTED BY WIRELESS SYSTEM
COMPONENTS OF THE IFE SYSTEM. IF IFE WLAN INTERFERENCES TO MEDI-
CAL EQUIPMENT IS DETECTED OR SUSPECTED, THE IFE WLAN MUST BE
SWITCHED OFF.

Printed in the Federal Republic of Germany D. Activation / Deactivation

The IFE system (incl. IFE WLAN) can be activated / deactivated any time by operating the
• 901MH1 PAX SYS SWITCH

located in the VCC installed just aft of the cockpit, on the left-hand cabin side (see Note below).
• 901MH2 VCC MAIN POWER SWITCH

located in the VCC installed just aft of the cockpit, on the left-hand cabin side (see Note below).

NOTE: Using this switch will also affect other cabin systems as the GXA SATCOM System.

cLufthansa Technik E. Pre-recorded Announcement and Boarding Music (PRAM)
(1) Description
The IFE System provides audio signals, which include prerecorded messages and boarding
music from the database. It transmits these signals to the related passenger loudspeakers via
the CIDS.

(2) Operation
The audio control (volume) can be done via the AUDIO page on the FAP and on the IFE Crew
Panel (announcement selection and track control) in the VCC.

F. Stowable In-Seat Monitors
(1) Description
Retractable in-seat monitors are installed in all seats of the Business Class Area. There is no
retractable in-seat monitor installed in the First Class Area, Premium Economy Class Area or
Economy Class Area.

(2) Safety Instructions
Retractable in-seat monitors have to be put into retracted position during flight phases Taxi,
Takeoff and Landing.

G. Passenger Control Unit – Tethered (PCU-T)

The Passenger Control Unit-Tethered (PCU-T) handsets are used for navigating the IFE System
audio/video displays from seats that are out of reach of the touch-screen displays. One side of the
handset provides for passenger service system controls and various audio and video related func-
tions. The opposite side of the handset provides gaming navigation and action controls.

The handset must be stowed and latched in its cradle, for taxi, takeoff and landings.

Each handset is tethered by a connecting cable to its cradle which provides the video/audio signal
and power interface interaction between the passenger and the IFE System. The PCU-T is installed
in the seats of the FA and BA and in the MR.

5. INMARSAT GXA Ka-Band SATCOM System

NOTE: The content below affects the THAI A340-500/-600 CABIN SYSTEM OPERATING MANUAL
(CSOM), Issue No. 1.

A. Introduction
The INMARSAT GXA Ka-Band SATCOM system is able to establish a satellite link to ground net-
works to provide passengers an internet connectivity service thought the IFE system interface.

The connectivity services are not available when the aircraft is on the ground.

All system status monitoring and control features are available through the IFE system.

B. Activation / Deactivation
The electrical supply to the system is under total control by the flight crew.
The system however can also be deactivated from the cabin by using the following power control
switches located in the VCC:

VCC Power Controls

Name FIN Location

Follow the procedure from the original THAI A340-500/-600 CABIN SYSTEM OPERATING
MANUAL when operating those switches in the VCC.

C. Ground Operation Printed in the Federal Republic of Germany
The GXA Ka-Band SATCOM system antenna sub-system is not powered when the aircraft is on the
ground. Weight-on-Wheel signals disable the electrical supply to the Ka-Band antenna sub-system cLufthansa Technik
with the aircraft on the ground.
During special maintenance activities ground operation for the system may be required. A KA-BAND
ANTENNA GND POWER switch panel is located in the VCC on the console behind door V3 to sup-
port this override function.

The following two special conditions are specified in the applicable AMM chapter and are also sub-
ject of applicable chapters in the AFM-S and the FCI or FCOM-S.

• The operation on the ground may require special permission from the local communication regu-
lation authority and may require a special permission from INMARSAT.

• The Ka-Band antenna operation on the ground also requires special safety measures in order to
minimize any health risk to maintenance personnel and to persons in the vicinity of the aircraft
during antenna RF transmissions.
