6. Cabin Lighting System

A. System Description and Operation

NOTE: Refer to THAI A340-500/-600 CABIN SYSTEM OPERATING MANUAL (CSOM), Issue
No. 1, Chapter 02.070 for system description and operating instructions. Consider fol-
lowing deviations.

B. Reading Lights

The passenger reading lights are installed in the PSU above each seat row and give additional illu-
mination to the seating areas. The lights are controlled separately from each other by pushbutton
switches which are installed next to them. Pushing these switches turns on each light and pushing
them again turn off the lights.
Another possibility to turn on the reading lights is given through an additional pushbutton switch
located on each PCU. The function of this pushbutton is identical to the one installed on the PSU.

7. Emergency Lighting System

A. Overview

Floor Path Marking (FPM) System
The GuideU 1000-Series FPM System is a floor mounted photoluminescent emergency floor path
marking system. Based on the aircraft layout a row of photoluminescent strips is installed on floor at
each side along both aisles.

B. Operation

To charge the photoluminescent light strips the cabin light must be switched to the position "Bright"
prior to off blocks of each flight for at least:

Case A: 15 minutes charging time results in limitation of 8 hours and 40 minutes maximum dark
cabin period.
The maximum length of a dark cabin period without recharging the system is 8 hours
and 40 minutes if the cabin lights are switched to the "bright" position for at least 15 min-
utes.

Case B: 20 minutes charging time results in limitation of 10 hours dark maximum dark cabin
period.
The maximum length of a dark cabin period without recharging the system is 10 hours if
the cabin lights are switched to the "bright" position for at least 20 minutes.

Case C: 30 minutes charging time results in limitation of 11 hours dark maximum dark cabin
period.
The maximum length of a dark cabin period without recharging the system is 11 hours if
the cabin lights are switched to the "bright" position for at least 30 minutes.

NOTE: Any cabin illumination in position "Bright" during flight is considered as charging time.

SECTION 5 - LAVATORIES

1. General

A. Overview

For lavatories installed throughout the aircraft, refer to Figure 5-1.

All lavatories are Airbus standard lavatories. The lavatory L15, next to the Door 1LH has been
removed. There is now the Mission Commander Room (MR) located.

Each lavatory contains overhead oxygen masks which deploy automatically during cabin depres-
surization. Refer to Section 2 Emergency Equipment for information about the passenger oxygen
system.

NOTE: For lavatory status during taxi, takeoff and landing (occupancy, doors) refer to 2. Over-
view - Passenger Compartment Status during Taxi, Takeoff and Landing (TTOL) in Sec-
tion 1 Airplane Description of this manual.

B. Lavatory Toilets

A standard vacuum toilet is installed in each lavatory. Press the flush switch to start the flush cycle,
which uses potable water to rinse the toilet bowl before the flush valve opens. After the flush switch
is pressed, it takes approximately 12 seconds to complete the flush cycle before the next flush cycle
can begin.

C. Lavatory Door Status

Prior to Taxi and Takeoff and Landing (TTOL)
In case cabin is occupied, request confirmation that passengers are familiar with the cabin configura-
tion for TTOL.

Make sure that the following conditions are met:
• All lavatory doors closed

The confirmation is to be performed by visual inspection of the respective doors.
