sChool mentor’s message

I am happy to note that Ascent Public School Family,
is working on its third issue of its E-Magazine “Fantasy”.
Students, Staff and School Authorities deserve my
appreciations for making the publication of this
Periodical, a regular feature of the School Curriculum.
This periodical of the School is not only a routine
Part of the School Calendar but is a Platform to bring
about a revolution in the Educational Environment of
the school.
Since its inception Ascent Public School is trying to give
New dimention to its ‘Teaching – Learning’ Process and establish itself as
an ‘Ambassador of Change’not only in Haldwani or
U.K. but in the Nation as a whole.
Previous issues of this periodical have covered almost all the fields of education viz.
Academic, Cultural, Sports, Values of Life and patriotism etc. I can freely say that this of the
school Magazine will cover much more the areas covered earlier and will cover another mile
stoneof achievements.

At the end, I would like to congratulate the School family for getting the School upgraded to
plus two level of CBSE in a short span of seven years.
Last but not the least is the challenge of living with Corona. The school will have to evolve
innovative ways of teaching to compensate the loss of their studies for more than one quarter
of the session. No doubt School staff tried its best to tech the students on line but they could
not meet the emotional needs of the children.
I wish many more successes in the years to come.

participant is required to make on a topic there and then. Perhaps that’s the
beauty of this competition.
Ascent Public School regularly organizes various scholastic and co-scholastic

LOCKDOWN CHALLENGE

The month of April every year is the start of new
session for almost every school in India. Children
enter the school with the joy of sitting in the new
class holding the new bag and stationery. They feel
fresh and full of energy. Happiness of meeting their
friends and becoming more senior than their last
class gives them more motivation. However,
sometimes the situation runs out of our hand where
we have to face something completely different.
The year 2020 came with such a big change that
affected not only one part of India but the whole
world. Since last few months a pandemic disease
Covid-19 also known as Corona virus has affected
the neighbouring country of India, China. In India
during the month of March this disease started
showing its effect in some parts of the country, due
to which for safety measures the concept of social
distancing started. The public places like schools,
malls, markets etc. work closed keeping in mind the
safety of people.
In general, the month of March can be known as
the month of final examination when the result of
the whole year hard work of the children is
presented before them. However, due to the effect
of Covid-19 the schools were closed before the
completion of final examination and the schools
were not able to prepare the final result. The
children were promoted to the next class on the
basis of their half yearly examination result.
In Ascent Public School we always focus on the
development of children by motivating them to
utilise their time in doing some productive and
creative work. Keeping this in mind the online
classes were started during the lockdown period. A
proper planning was done before the starting of
these online classes. The class teachers and subject
teachers were allotted their respective classes along
with the time table in which two subject classes
were decided to be held in one day.
The school management along with the teachers
tried their level best to make the challenge easy to
be dealt with so that we do not lose our strength
and talent due to this lockdown. Even in this
difficult situation we have not left the hope of being
positive.

ONLINE CLASSES

With the change in time technology has also got advanced day by day. During this
lockdown period the best use of technology was done by all the organisations for
doing work from home.
In Ascent Public School, the online classes were started so that the studies of the
children do not get hindered. The online classes were started with the planning of the
time table that was allotted to the respective teachers by informing them about their
subjects. The class teachers added all the children in one WhatsApp group named
after their class in which according to the time table, the videos and work of two
subjects per day was sent. The concept of two subjects per day was set so that the
children do not feel burdened. The videos were selected by the teachers from
YouTube according to the age group and class of the children. In case of confusion
the teacher made their own videos so that they can communicate in much better way.
Looking at the efforts of the school the parents who were earlier not serious about the
online classes also showed their interest and started giving positive responses.
To keep a check on whether the children are taking the online classes regularly or not,
the concept of online attendance was started. For the daily attendance the children
were sent the videos and work for two subjects according to the time table till 10:00
a.m. and the children were asked to complete the work and send it in the class group
till 3:00 p.m. The children who sent both the subject work were marked as full day
present and those who sent one subject work were marked as half day present. This
also motivated the children to complete their work at home as a regular check was
kept on them.
To motivate the children a new system of announcing the best performers of the day
for each subject was started. This not only rewarded the children for doing good work
but also motivated the other children to do hard work. Further, for checking the
performance of the children, online Google form was started for taking test of the
children. The attendance of the children in the test was almost 100% which proved
that the children were taking keen interest in these test.
The focus for teaching the children was more by using the written work rather than
the videos after the request of the parents who felt the difficulty due to network
problems. By sending the written work it was easier for the children to complete their
work more easily without the problem of networks. During the online classes the
queries of the children were also considered properly so that they take more interest
in all the activities of the school.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

Earth day is celebrated every year on 22nd
April. The first Earth day was held on April
22, 1970 when almost 20 million Americans
ventured outdoors and protested together who
faced serious issues concerning toxic drinking
water, air pollution and effects of pesticides.
This year 2020, marked the 50th anniversary
of Earth Day. Leaving behind the prevailing
condition of lockdown in the whole country
Ascent Public School took an effort to
motivate the children to connect themselves
with the environment and spend some time
with the nature.
For making this day memorable even during
the lockdown period the children were asked
to plant a tree around their home by following
proper steps. They were asked to click pictures
while they were performing the gardening
activity. The collection of pictures sent by the
children was converted into a beautiful video
for each class by the class teachers showing
the interest and efforts of the children for their
planet Earth. Some of the children not only
planted the tree but also does extra effort for
saving their tree by providing a fencing and
naming their plant.
A practice sheet was also provided by the
school to the children in which some general
questions related to our environment were
given. This was all done to realise the students
about the importance of this day and the
necessity of saving our planet. Since Earth is
the only planet with life on it thus it becomes
our duty to protect it for our better future.
Earth Day should not be considered the only
day to increase awareness of environmental
problems but we should take daily efforts to
discard the environmental issues by taking
small steps like conserving water, reducing the
use of plastic, starting an organic vegetable
garden and last but not the least explaining
the kids about the importance of clean and
pure environment.

MOTHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION

Mother's day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family as well as
motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. Since
many ages this line seems always true that 'God could not be everywhere so he
created mothers'. The power that mother holds is unique and ultimate power
that never fails and is no less than the power of God. Every year the second
Sunday of May is celebrated as Mother's Day throughout the country and this
year it fell on 10th May, 2020.
To make this day special for all the mothers Ascent Public School decided to
conduct a competition for the children of the school.
For this competition different themes were given to different classes like for pre-
primary the children were asked to make a video reciting a poem for their
mother, the theme for class 1st and 2nd was to make a card dedicating to their
mother, class third and fourth word asked to click a picture while they are
helping their mother, class 5th and 6 were asked to prepare a dance video
dedicated to their mother, class 7th and 8th were asked to make a craft material
and present to their mother and at last classes 9th to 11th were asked to give a
speech on Mother's Day of not more than 3 minutes.
The children were asked to send the videos or pictures before 10:00 a.m. on
Mother's Day so that the best ones can be selected as the winners.

For selection of winners the class teachers were asked to select the pictures or
videos of six students from their class which was further sent to the final judges.
The final four judges were Mrs. Jyoti Mehra, Mr. Raju Bankoti, Mrs. Heni Pandey,
Miss Kavita Pandey.
Out of the best six students only three students were selected as the winner by the
judges after carefully analysing the efforts of the children. It was difficult for the
teachers to select only six children from the bunch of pictures and videos and was
even more difficult for the judges to select only three children as the winner.

Looking at the efforts of
children in the form of pictures
and videos in the class groups
all the parents also felt happy
and appreciated the other
children also for their
performance.

The competition seemed
complete with the positive
responses of the parents.

ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATION

Between the green lush of the nature is the beautiful campus of

Ascent Public School. The greenery around the school proves that
the school always focuses on saving the environment and take
efforts for creating natural beauty. For giving extra concern to
our environment 5th June is regarded as the World Environment
day and celebrated in more than 143 countries.
Our environment has number of species and a great biodiversity
which need to be preserved not only for their own sake but for the
betterment of human life. Each and every organism in this
environment holds their own importance and thus has equal
rights on the nature. This year in 2020, when we are facing a
global concern with the pandemic disease COVID-19 it becomes
more important to connect the children with their environment
and nature.
